[Bug] Why doesn't Mx Player, display that a video has a subtle file in its folder?

It used to display fine in earlier versions.But now it doesn't.
For example (please observe the screenshot), that movie's got a subtitle placed in it's folder. Earlier versions of mx player used to show an indication, on the right hand low corner of name.
But now it's just blank.

Interesting, I don't have a problem with missing external subtitle indicators on my Nexus 5 Android 4.4.4. What device and Android version?

Would you post screen capture of a file manager screen showing entire files in this directory?

I'm using Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 (GT-S7582) on 4.2.2, stock rooted.

Here it is. Aside from the video file, the other one is the subtitle.
Mx Player Pro, recognizes embedded subtitles with no problem. But doesn't provide indication for external ones.

Can you check whether the file name of the video & subtitle is exactly same except extension?
What's the extension of your subtitle?
In your screenshot, file name is not completely visible since you are using tiles/icon view.

No, the file names of the video & Subtitle are different.
The subtitle extention is .srt

If I am not wrong mx player looks for the subtitle with the same name as video.
Try to rename it to the same name & check it again.

Yep, renaming solves the problem.
But that's not, at all, ok I guess. Mx Player should be able to detect a subtitle, no matter what the name. This feels kinda stupid, to only show those having same names.

Reason for this is because it's also possible to have multiple videos with similar filenames, for example if you have recordings of lectures. Exact filename matching exists for cases such as that.

device: onda v975m (amlogic m805 a9 cpu)
os: android 4.4.2 dalvik
1. subtitle can't disable and be styled while play movie with embed subtitle through samba(es file manager) (embed subtitle rendered above import subtitle and without style, it is out of control)
2. sw+ doesn't work,force close or heavy lag

The log doesn't contain any information.
Can you post the screenshot of extended properties (enable more options on Properties)?
How many subtitles are listed in the subtitle pop up window?
Have tried after unchecking the "Enable Embedded subtitles" in Settings 》 Subtitles ?
If It's still not working uncheck "Enable Subtitles" option too. If you are still getting means subtitle is hard encoded to video frame. In that case it can't be disabled.
Regarding S/W decoder issue, your cpu amlogic m805 is not a powerful one. Since S/W decoder uses the cpu to decode, it needs powerful cpu. So,there will be lagging depends upon the video quality

1. they said it has 4 core at 2ghz with mali m450-mp. is it power enough to do the hw acc+ thing? h/w acc is fine, but not h/w acc+.

2. only way to turn off subtitles is at setting->subtitle, but at player ui , I can't turn off the mkv's sub, ( i also tried to turn off h/w acc at setting/subtitle)

the big one can be turned off at player ui, but the small one still shown(mkv's sub)

YES! this can turn off subtitles (big and small all gone), but I need the big one.

Instead of disabling the system wide H/W acceleration, can you try to disable only mx player's subtitles h/w acceleration?
Goto Settings | Subtitles & Disable H/W acceleration under appearance

well the embed subtitle still there.
1. I tested these:
open/disable : Gui hw
open/disable : setting/subtitle
===> embed always there. (only ext subtitle can be controlled. )
but every condition, the embed subtitle loaded 3 second later after ext subtitle. (or 2 paragraph later)
2. two srt file are the same. (I made this mkv file )
work fine on my galaxy s4, all these two can be disabled and controlled.
I use the pad as hdmi source to my tv, movie file is mkv, placed at my router's hdd share.

[Feature Request] Ability to Disable changing lock screen background

Dear MX Player Developers,
Could you please allow to optionally (or even better - completely) disable the icon display on the lock screen background?
When playing a wma audio file with an embedded icon (album cover), the icon appears on the lock screen. I'd prefer a clean lock screen instead of using this stretched icon as background. This is not only ugly but also leaks information. Thank you!

Have you tried to disable "Album Art" under Settings > Player > Background Play...?

I never tried it because that option is disabled (grey-ed, does not change when touched) when "background play" is enabled. Following to your hint, I disabled "background play", then was able to switch off "album art". I re-enabled "background play" and "album art" remains unchecked. The lock screen is clean now.
So this should have been a bug report instead of a feature request -- "Background play (audio)" and "Album art" should be changeable instead of (currently) unchangeable when "background play" is enabled. The UI logic seems to be reversed.
I am running MX Player version 1.7.40 (ARMv7 NEON) on Android 5.1.
Because this was the exact reason that prevented me from buying MX Player, now I have payed for this nice app.

Album art suppose be disabled only when none of the background play option is enabled.

Thank you @ktsamy for the fix, but until today I didn't get any update on any of my Android device running MX Player Pro. Did you forget the Pro version and only fixed the free version?

Today I got the first update since this bug report. With the new version (1.8.11), "Album art" can be check/unchecked independent of background play. Problem solved.

[Done] Colour backround in subtitles for hardcore subtitles

In last years many movies came with hardcore subtitles . When we choose external subtitles and black background to hide the hardcore subtitles the problem is that the black background is from side to side and do not covers only the subtitles ....On windows with the media player classic (it's media player) the black always follow Only the subtitles ....See the image below

With black background on mx player ... (the black is from side to side)
And last and best solution ...on windows with the media player classic
The black background covers always Only the subtitles !!
Can you make samething like that on mx player ...
Maybe one other solution ...Can you raise the border ....bigger than 300% ..

Thanks for replying . More and more movies pop up early with hardcore subtitles to Internet . it will nice to have this . I think more easily is to raise the border bigger than 300% ..

I was about to make the same topic
I want subtitles box to cover only subtitles not the entire screen.
So that it looked like this:

Yeah, you're always working on other issues but this is important as well.
There are many movies with hardcoded subs and watching them with your own subtitles is real pain in the ass.
Besides, I don't think it's hard to implement or time consuming. It's just a simple opaque box which is a standard feature in all available players.
I paid for mx player pro and I'm not eager to wait a year or more until you fix it.
As I said, it may look as a not important issue but it is not. Now I can't watch movies on mx player because subtitles overlap each other and it's all confusing and doesn't look nice.
So basically mx player is useless right now when it comes to watching hardsubbed movies.
Please fix it in the next release of mx-player pro.

I hope that in the new version, background transparent will be in the size of the (fit) subtitles, and the background transparent not to be all the time in the video while no subtitles are active.

[Bug Report] SMB Missing

Thank you for the continued work on MX Player, SMB is a user-centered feature that I am grateful to have!
With the latest old versions (before 1.35) I'm not able to access SMB in the TV interface. Using a hand held remote will not navigate properly from the homescreen anymore. Also, pressing left on a remote within context menus like view and help will exit the app. Hopefully, this version of the Ui will not be left behind while the rest of the app continues to grow.

I can also confirm the 2 bugs descriped above on an Android-TV:
1. not possible to add a SMB share - there's simply no menu for this available
2. navigating to left while in submenus closes the app

you can say something about when the SMB Share function for the Andoid TV version (NvidiaTV Shield) is to be expected from MX Player or when it will be implemented.
Would like to be wide for this feature to buy the Pro version.

MX version 1.21 does not have any of these navigation bugs and allows access to SMB. Would be nice to have these in the updated version! :fingers-crossed:

I can confirm, that the latest versions don't have the local network option.
I hope that this feature comes back with an update.

The latest version is 1.34.0

The homescreen of MX Player on androidTV is fixed! Local network can be reached again!
There are some quirks with recent versions (1.35.0), specifically during playback
⦿ The "rewind 10s" button can't be reached without touchscreen
⦿ Navigating from right to left along the bottom row of buttons doesn't work as expected; selection will leave the bottom row and jump into the progress bar, causing video to leap back or forward
⦿ Black bars along top & bottom of letterbox video removed when using HW+ decoder, stretching the video height
⦿ More of a plea than a bug, but changing "key up/down action" to brightness has no effect on androidTV. It's not uncommon for TV users to find they have been accidentally using reduced volume in MX for a length of time. An option to disable key up/down would be useful

Local Network (SMB) is not displayed on the NVIDIA TV Shield, MX Player 1.35 version, so back to the 1.20 beta.
