Navigation Bar Customization.. - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Hi.
I am using Huawei Mate 9 (rooted).
I would like to add some space in between the navigation button ie Recent, Home & Back. Because the default one is too close to each other made me feel really uncomfortable and would easily press the wrong button with my big fingers.
So I would like to know is it possible to achieve this?
I have tried installing this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xyz.paphonb.systemuituner&hl=en
But it's not compatible.
I thought it could be possible with editing some of the system values. Because my intention only to get some space between the buttons, that's all.
Thank you.

I'm searching the same as you. Hope someone find a way

I want two arrows (left and right) which allow me to choose between last opened apps

I want to have lock screen button on right, quick shortcut on left. Kangvip ROM able to achieve it but not stock ROM....

This is the only thing with this phone. The navigation buttons are to close together!

[Q] Lock Navigation bar on custom rom (like stock)

Hi
I just went from Stock 4.0.3 to Team EOS 4.2.1. Everything seems to work, but Im missing the "lock navigation bar" feature.
I know it's a ASUS specific feature. It says ASUS "something" setting
Fore those not familiar with this feature: You get a new button on the navigation bar. swipe it - and it lock the navigation bar, so you dont accidental push any of the buttons while e.g playing games or watching movies. Swipe it again and it unlocks the bar.
It is a big problem for kids not to hit e.g. home or back buttons while playing.
Are there any apps, hidden settings or custom roms that makes this possible
/jk
U can hide the nav bar on this awesome ROM
Long press the power button and press the last option... Better then lock

Yes that is a better solution, I agree.
I did rummage around the settings. found a lot of settings related to nav/status bar, but never quite what I was after.
Android can be quite difficult because all the feature and setting and that they change from version to version and ROM to ROM.
But its also the freedom we love, i guess

Soft Keys on the XT926.. Help changing them please?

I need some assistance to get these keys back on my phone..
I don't understand why ANYONE would eliminate the menu button that is used in SEVERAL programs, and the Search function that is used on most apps as well.. I got my HD on Saturday and don't think I'll be able to adjust to not having access to program menus.
The three little squares that float all over the screen depending on which program you use, the search magnifying glass as well..
I don't really want to use any roms. They always seem to lose some sort of key functionality, like HDMI or something even more valuable.
Can ANYONE help me with this?
In my searches. The menu button on bar is placed there by the app. It's only removed when the app has the menu button in it. As for the magnifying glass. I've never seen it on the bar. I think if your running stock the best you can do is run and app called SoftKeyZ but it only changes the icons, I don't believe it add buttons.
You could use pie keys and delete the nav bar on stock. Or there was a topic somewhere about adding the keys to stock. Not sure where you'd have to search add menu button to navigation bar on here. Easiest method would be to run a custom rom or do the first option.
Your lucky day. I was bored

Post 2 has the manual method that I would assume works on the razr.

[Q] Remapping soft keys

Right now, the soft keys on the Z3 do 'Back', 'Home' and 'Recent apps'. With my previous phone being a Galaxy S2, this is a major annoyance for me. I want my beloved menu button back . So my question is: can I remap the 'Recent apps' button to instead show the menu? I've tried some solutions like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818499, but this doesn't seem to allow customization of the soft keys I want to change. Is there anything out there that lets me do this, preferably without directly modifying the layout file? I have root so that's not an issue.
Thanks in advance

Except no roms are ready for xperia Z3 yet. Also might want to try Carbon Rom if you really liked the navigation button customization. They do a better job than CM, and have more options.

Yeah, that's kind of the issue for now: the lack of ROMs. Could this be done through Xposed or something similar was well?

u should check if Xposed module have access to SystemUI
(i don know about that module a lot)
Root and xposed will work
There is a module for remapping keys and one for adding a permanent menu key

Just give it some time. Lollipop and Xperia Z3 hit the shelves around the same time, but DEVs are more interested in getting their ROMs working based on lollipop, instead of getting a custom rom based on an old OS working for a new phone.

coming from a Note1 i have exactly the same question. sounds like we just wait for Lollipop and learn to love back-key on the left side (perhaps that's more intuitive anyway). i still wish there was a way to generate a menu-keypress though, like a combo? a long press?
i often feel like theres a menu there, but no way to see it. is it always true that the 3 vertical dots will appear somewhere (sometimes top, sometimes bottom. grrr!) in this menu-key-less interface?
First thing I did after root... Install Xposed framework then download/install the GravityBox(KK) module. In the GravityBox settings, go to Navigation Bar Tweaks. Enable the master switch, then check the box to "always show menu key".
This will enable your menu key and still keep your recent apps key. You can also swap the recent and back button (if your used to that type of layout). And if you want even more then you can do like I do...
(in the Navigation Key Actions menu, not in Navigation Bar Tweaks)
*shrink the nav bar to 75% height
*long press back to close foreground app
*long press home to enable/disabled screen rotation
*double tap home to show a custom app launcher menu (put your fav apps n here)
*double tap back to switch to last open app
*long press menu to enable/disable flashlight
(this is just my setup, each keys long press and double-tap have multiple options to choose from)
With gravity box you can do a whole lot. You can change your battery icon to a different one but be sure to go into your phone "settings>personalization>status bar icons" and uncheck battery. If not, then when you restart you will have 2 battery icons (stock & gbox battery) in your status bar. Also, you can turn your status bar into a brighteness control, which comes in very handy, or enable song skipping by long pressing the volume keys (when the screen is off).
Just check everything out in gravity box, it has soo much to offer.

I just did this with my Xperia Z3. Get root (note there's locked bl root available). Then install xposed framework. Then get Xperia / AOSP NavBar module from Xposed Installer.

Menu App or button changes?

Looking to see if there is any ability to get the right capacitive key to do anything other than switch/clear open apps? I sure do miss being able to hit the right key on my old phone and it would typically bring up menu options for whatever app you happened to be in and also a shortcut into your settings when on one of the home screens. What a PITA having to go up to the top right side of each app, hit the 3 little menu dots and change menu options that way.
Anybody figure any work-arounds or other 3rd party apps that can help out with this?
It would be nice if Alcatel would allow the right capacitive key to access the settings or menu of an app with a long hold of the button. Short hold of the button accesses the open apps. That would be intuitive. My old phone was the opposite, a short tap would open a backdoor to menu options and a long hold would open the active apps for dismissal or switch.
Very much an extra effort reaching up to the right when in Chrome to have to go to your bookmarks...that's just one example.
Any 3rd party launchers include something of this ability?
Also a PITA having to reach allllllll the way up to the top of the phone to pull down the notification panel. My old phone with KK 4.4.4 all you had to do was slide down anywhere on the home screen and the notification panel would come down. Vice versa, sliding up on a home screen would open the backdoor to your settings menu.
These are my two biggest *****es 24 hours into having this phone. Everything else I've tried so far seems pretty good.
I can propose solutions to two of your problems ..
(a) For bookmarks, could a bookmark widget help ? I believe Chrome has its own , but you could also use the stock widget and have it open any browser. Of course this only works in you are not already inside the browser. You can also try a browser with gestures. I think dolphin can do that.
(b) For the notification shade, you can use a launcher than offers a swipe down gesture. I use Apex which has gestures for free, and I have swipe down set for the notification shade.
Cool, thanks! Hopefully Alcatel is taking notes for future updates?
Did your phone have a custom room or Launcher? Those are not standard gestures for kit kat or stick Launcher.

Tips and Tricks

Hi
There are lots of goodies, tips and tricks which we may have come to notice while using the device. I came across such things as well.
It is better to share the tricks in one place for the benefit of all members. Please post here of any new things / tricks that you learnt on our beloved Huawei P20 Pro.
Thanks.
I always hate on-screen navigation (soft keys). I use app like GMS (gesture app) and find a way to remove on-screen navigation by amending build.prop or key layout files.
But in Huawei P20 Pro, I found it very easy and also single button (finger scan button) can be used for back, home and recents.
Here is what I did.
Go to settings / System / System navigation and select "Off-screen navigation button". All done.
Now you thumb scanner button can work for back, home and recents.
Here is the action using scanner button,
Back > Single touch
Home > Long touch and hold
Recents > Swipe left or right
Hope it helps.
