This morning my edge apps lost one column, anyone else have this issue? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

As the title states, My edge apps column shrank down to one column instead of the usual 2. Is there any way to get this back to normal?

If I'm understanding you correctly, just open the edge panel them click on settings then at the bottom of the apps edge should be the edit button. You should be able to click on that to add your apps back.

No. not the individual apps like the music player, device maintenance etc. Theres a panel called "apps edge" and by default it shows 2 columns. For some strange reason it now shows only 1 no matter if i turn off then back on that specific panel or rearrange it or try to remove and add apps.

Ok. I thought you were talking about this...

Well I seem to have resolved the issue by messing around with it for a bit. I will just leave my reply here in case anyone else has this issue.
After rebooting phone I basically started removing apps off the edge panel. I removed about 2 of them and went to put one back on and the 2nd column appeared again. Don't know if this is considered even a fix but I figured I should let people know what I did in case it happens to them before they factory reset their phone.

[Q] Edge screen pops up while in other apps and won't go away

So I've had the Note edge for about a week now. Now all of a sudden when I'm in the messaging app or eBay or most any other app. If I accidentally activate the edge screen it will not go away unless I exit the app I'm using and reopen the app. I have the Samsung wallet case I don't know if that may have something to do with it I didn't notice it before the case. Why is there not a setting to time it out. JUST AS I TYPED THIS I GOT A NOTIFICATION AND THE DAMN SCREEN WILL NOT GO AWAY. Anyone else having this issue or how can I fix it. I may just trade it for the note 4 if I can't resolve this.

There is a time out setting for the edge panel.
But what launcher are you using and have you tried removing the case and seeing if it happens.
Also what notification is it?
What launcher? What is that? Also I have not tried to remove the case and it does it in any notification or if I accidentally bring up the edge screen. and where is the time out setting

Since your unsure I would say it's the stock one.
And the settings are under
Settings > edge panel > information stream > time out.
if that doesn't work you can try to go into
Manage application and find cocktail and clear the default.
It will ease your edge panel settings

I just did that and it's still doing it. I don't know what to do. Also does anyone know how to get rid of the annoying call time while I'm on the phone and doing something else in another app? It is always in the way

Move it out of your way.
There should be an option to remove it. That's stupid to have to move a box around the screen. I have been able to swipe it a few times and take it off the screen but I cannot figure out exactly how I did it. Also problem resolved on my other problem I had to factory reset. not a good sign after I've only had the phone a week.

[Q] Arranging apps in alphabetical order

So the menu button used to be on S3 / Note 3 / etc other Samsung phones has been replaced with the recent apps button. Is there any way I can sort the apps in alphabetical order instead of the manual way now? I liked that feature in my Note 3, how do I go to settings page in an app without the button?

That's odd. Double check your Accessibility settings to see if there's something in there causing that behavior.

i think it's default, i'm on t-mobile and any app i have open, long pressing recent apps button goes to split screen mode. I do however have a moveable floating menu widget that i can move around and also tap to show a menu screen for a few of my apps.

If that's the default, that's brutal. I really hope my Canadian S6 isn't going to be like that.
Worst case, I guess there are always ROMs or root-based mods.
In the upper right corner of the app drawer is the sort alphabetically button.

Because for a lot of people the option simply isn't there. I believe it was added in a software revision that went out some time after the review units were sent out, but that's just speculation.

Ah okay well then that makes perfect sense
The Canadian S6's are like that too, you can rearrange the apps how you want them but no alphabetical. Also, you need lightflow to control the LED, I'm coming from the oneplus one and I miss the control of the LED!
Uk S6 doesnt have option either, really irritating not being able to auto arrange. why on earth did they remove that?!
On my sprint s6 I can sorry by ABC from an icon in top right of the app drawer... I click it... And it sorts them...
OMG did they really get rid of this? It is not there on the Canadian model.
Also removed on german Vodafone model. :/
Also not on the Australian model on Telstra.

HA! So I move to the country yesterday and the first thing I do after getting over my jet lag is go pick one up. This phone is awesome! Truly the only thing bothering me not being able to sort my app drawer.
Funnily enough if you can be bothered you can still move all the app icons into alphabetical order.....

Hi there, anyon knows how to get rid of that message? it's frankly driving me nuts...

Yes there is. You can either have no drawer or a drawer icon. I'll let you discover how in settings.
Go to settings then display and turn on easy stand
Easy stand? Haven't seen that yet...
I think I didn't explain myself correctly, I want to get rid of the Text message that scrolls from time to time and keep the swipe...

Hello, I have figured this out after searching and coming up empty. It was annoying me too.
Press and hold on the home screen like you're going to add a widget. Click 'home screen settings'. Click apps button and choose 'show apps button'
The swipe motion will still work to open the apps.
Take care

Use the Samsung members app. Log in and use the device management in there to clean ram and storage. It stopped for me after using that.
Just enable and apply the Apps Button, then disable and apply the Apps Button and it will go away.
use nova launcher,done,never appears.
Just got a new replacement device after a cracked screen and the "swipe up Or down on screen for all apps" won't go away on home screen. Never an issue on my old device. Does anyone have any new details on this besides a work around?
I will go away in a week or so. Mine was driving me nuts and it went away without me doing anything.
Just scroll up or down through the app/home screen 20-30 times in a row and it will go away. It was driving me nuts and I found this discussion. Saw it was going away after a certain amount of time so I scrolled through it a ton and it was gone. Lol.
Reboot
I went through the swiping up and swiping down and it still showed the message after. But then I shut down the phone and powered it on and it was gone. Just like another user mentioned.

[Q] S8+ display doesn't rotate - stuck in portrait mode

I have the T-Mobile S8+ (SM-G955U). It is NOT rooted. I pre-ordered my device and got it early. I've had no real problems with the phone until this issue cropped up a week or so ago.
The rotate option in settings has completely disappeared. See attached. How can I get it back?

Have you tried a restart yet? That will fix a lot of little issues you might be having.
Edit:
Also, have you disabled any packages with Package Disabler Pro or any other app?
Yep, tried the "soft reset" option: press and hold the “Power” and “Volume Down” buttons on the device for about 10 to 20 seconds. No change. I'm reluctant to do a Hard Reset (traveling) until I return home.
I had been using Package Disabler Pro with only a few things disabled. Figuring that it might have been the cause of the problem, I removed both the app and the engine. The the problem remains: no way to enable the rotation.
And you tried to go to the three for menu send change button order and see if it's on the bottom (disabled) and fresh it back to the top of it is?

I had this exact same issue with my old Note 5
Out of the box (In my case) my rotate icon was missing from Notification bar. I also had no root or any tweaks etc.
I spoke to Samsung rep and they told me to try some Samsung Galaxy fix from their app store. This app did not help (forgot the name)
If you Google this issue overall its a common issue
with Samsung's devices.
It was a big issue way back i think with S6 (not sure Google it)
I reflashed my stock Rom etc.. nothing helped.
Anyway what i did was, download an 3rd party
rotate widget app, from Play store and it worked 100%.
Rotate icon would show up in Notification bar..!
As soon as i uninstalled 3rd party app, icon dissappeared..! So i just kept the
3rd party rotate widget
Maybe to can try same ?
Bottom line,
this is an old Samsung bug that affects
only small percentage of their device.
Good luck

Figured as such, but never hurts to verify the basics.
I remember their was an issue with some devices (S6 era) dropping quick toggles. Maybe try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xpe.app.quicksettings.manager
Not sure how much it costs, I bought it for my S6 a long time ago. It won't open on my S8 but maybe something similar can be found?

Glad you have fixed issue.!
For me it was a very annoying and frustrating
issue. If i switched off 3r party toggle.,
Icon would disappear etc.
So just keep widget out of sight
(dock draw) and forget about it.
Good luck

Question What is this white bar and how do i get rid of it?

This white bar, at the to right of the screen, just appeared effectively. Firstly, it is NOT the Edge Panel, that is at the lower left of the screen (doesn't show on screen grab) - that is useful and I want to keep it. Sometimes, if you hold your finger on the white bar, it will turn blue and then you can slide it to a dieter position on the right side but mostly it is unresponsive to touch. It appears on the home screen, lock screen and in apps.
I'm on One UI5 / Android 13 and, being Australian stock, I assume that is an Exynos device.
I've tried turning off Edge Panel, restating and clearing the cache partition, with no success. What is it and how do I get rid of it? View attachment 5775089View attachment 5775089

I'm guessing that's from the Samsung app "One Hand Operation". If you're using it, you should be able to reposition it & make it transparent.
If you don't have that app installed, I'm guessing it's something similar. If you haven't installed &/or used a similar app lately, I'd boot into "Safe Mode“ & open each app on your phone until you get it to re-appear.

I think you're right about it being "Edge Panels".
@antman68
At least on the S22 Ultra, it's not an app, but, a setting that is nested within Settings > Display & it can be toggled off.
Unlike the app "One Hand Operation", the tab cannot be made 100% transparent, but, the size & position can be changed.

No, as I said in my original post, it is NOT Edge Panels". I have used Edge Panels on my Galaxy Note 9 for several years and I know what they are and how they work. This is different.
As I said, I have my Edge Panels handle on the lower left side of my screen and it works as expected - this one, on the upper right edge, does nothing. Also, the handle for Edge Panels does not show in a screen grab, this one does. I have also tried switching off Edge Panels, rebooting and clearing the cache partition and it is still there.

I guess I made the wrong conclusion, since Edge Panel looks just like what is shown in the Screenshot, even though you stated that wasn't the issue.
Sounds like booting into Safe Mode is the next step.

Okay, mystery solved! It was the Widget Drawer handle in the Lockscreen Widgets and Drawer app, which I use to show my blood sugars on the lock screen and in the clock window (when I use the clear view phone case). Since I don't use the drawer, just the widget, I toggled the drawer off. I don't remember toggling it on but I must have done it yesterday when I was working out how to get the widget to show in the clock window.
