Mate9 fastboot oem unlock after software update - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have unlocked and made a full reset using fastboot oem unlock CODE.
After that I started to see "Your phone is unlocked and can't be trusted". It is OK.
Later I received a firmare update to B182 version, updated successfully. But after upgrading the firmware, I no longer see this warning above. I'm wondering;
1. My phone is encrypted back or just the warning is supressed? (In developer options I see Oem unlock enabled, not sure if it is relevant)
2. If I install TWRP and root the phone, I'll be able to receive updates or what I have to do?
Thanks for the answers

Let's assume that I rooted the devce, flashed back stock recovery, shall I receive OTA updates and be able to install it or it will be impossible like Samsung does, because of it is rooted etc?
What I did yesterday, I did an unlock but not root yet, my phone received the update anyway and installed with no problem.

You only need to flash back stock recovery (if you have twrp) to be able to update. However, if you modified any partition other than /data OTA will not install. Then you can use Firmware Finder and flash a full update.
The reason you don't see the message at boot after update is because bootloader gets locked again when updating.

Root operation doesn't modify the /system partition or am I wrong?

It depends. If you use https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-how-to-root-mate-9-decrypt-data-t3569986 and pick SuperSU it will modify /system. It creates a folder in /system/etc/ for init.d, but I should probably update it to use /data instead. Superroot (Phh superuser) from that thread does not modify system. Magisk (twrp 3.1.0 and B182+ only) does not modify.

Heh. same issue as OP on my P10Plus.
Out of box was on B112 firmware. Ended up unlocked bootloader successfully where i was getting those warnings about "phone cannot be trusted" upon booting up... Now, an OTA B124 was pushed/downloaded to my phone. The warnings disappear and now...whenever i get into fastboot/download mode, the phone says 'phone locked'
So they just go and RE LOCK my boot loader willy nilly without even asking? FFS!

It's actually a good thing. It's not re-locked, it would say relocked.
It's just locked. I don't think you can take advantage of any warranty if it's relocked.
You can just unlock it again with the unlock code you got. Though, you will have to back everything up first as it gets wiped :/

The definition of something that was once 'locked' and is later 'unlocked' by the user....only for the boot loader to later be inaccessable after an OTA update in my eyes is 'relocked' again. Once unlocked, it should remain that way until a manual process comes in for you to do that...but apparently not.
I don't really care for warranty. I don't see the point in unlocking the bootloader and installing TWRP until we have system root to work with.

[Q] If I update a rooted device OTA, will I have to run OEM unlock to root again

Hi,
I have an LG Nexus 5 (KTU84P, or "hammerhead") running Android KitKat 4.4.4. It is rooted using Chainfire's AutoRoot for the Nexus 5 for Android 4.4.4, and I have no custom ROM, simply Vanilla Android but with SuperSU. I am looking to update to Android L, version 5, and I have received a notification for the OTA update.
I understand that with OTA updates, your data will not be wiped, but you will lose root access. I have researched ways to keep the root, but they only appear to be for older versions of Android. I understand that I will lose root.
My question is, will I have to run the "oem unlock" (which I understand is the part of the whole rooting process which actually wipes your device), or will I just have to load Chainfire's AutoRoot? If I go through with it, I will use his AutoRoot for hammerhead for Android L, but basically my end goal is to root and update and not lose any data.
Thanks, if you need more info, let me know?
Autoroot will not wipe your data if your bootloader is already unlocked. Only if your bootloader was locked to begin with.
Nope. Once unlocked it stays unlocked unless you lock it yourself

Thank you both very much!
Of course with L you can no longer get the OTA if you have custom recovery. Just incase you weren't aware

I have updated OTA, and I kept EVERYTHING, even my root apps, but when I open up SuperSU I get a notification explaining that the Su binary is not installed, which is obviously removed when updating. Now, I'm just backing up my data. Another thing I would like to confirm is, if I use Chainfire's Auto Root for the Nexus 5 running Android 5.0, will it run OEM unlock again, and if it does, will I be affected considering my bootloader is already unlocked?

If its unlocked, it can't be unlocked again.
Just a little info, afaik, if you update from KK to L and had an unlocked bootloader ('oem unlock'), like I did, your bootloader will get locked again after update, as it did with me.
So that "if it was unlocked it'll stay unlocked" is not correct.

There's a REALLY easy way to test that theory.
Open the factory image archives and check the script. Unless it runs 'fastboot oem lock' it isn't relocking it.

Don't you think this makes the trick?
"fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-hammerhead-hhz12d.img"

update with a rooted Mate 8

I am on rooted stock B331 and I just received an update to B356 (492 MB). If I acceot the OTA will the bootloader get locked? I know I will most likely loose root and twrp. I'd like to updated but not get locked again. Any advice?
Or should I flash the image file in TWRP along with insecure boot?
If anybody has gone this route please advice. Thanks
huh? thats new! here i thought that once u unlock bootloader and root u dont receive ota updates anymore! how is that possible?!
in any case, whats the big deal about bootloader getting locked? u just unlock it again using your code via fastboot, no problem then flash twrp and supersu, done!

Yeah, I know it is wierd. My bootloader is unlocked, I'm rooted and have twrp installed and received the B356 OTA this morning.
I was hopping to dirty flash so I don't have to go through all the setup process again
true, unlocking BL again would mean that your phone would be reset...

You can still do OTA'S with an unlocked bootloader. You should be able to OTA but it may remove root or fail in the process because of root. I always recommend backing up the stock rom in TWRP so you can always go back to it to take an OTA. Fastboot flash the stock rom you're on and the stock recovery then boot up and take the OTA then fastboot flash twrp again.
I have also received the notification for b357 and I am on stock rooted b356...sounds fishy, I am not updating

I'd love it if anybody could make a flashable zip rooted B356 or 357 rom to be safe.

Possible to completely reset your Honor 8? Lock bootloader, reset warning etc

Is there any way to completely reset your Honor 8?
I unlocked bootloader with code from huawei, rooted, twrp etc.
Is there any way to completely restore it to factory default?
I tried unrooting it and locked the bootloader using the tool here on the forum. But the warning is still there when you booted, that its been tampered with and is unsafe etc.
Is there no way to completely factory reset it, like it was when it was new?

If u have L09 u should flash stock recovery and then flash stock full firmware B101 and the bootloader should be locked and warning should be gone.
I guess there is an internal counter that is tripped when bootloader is unlocked. Like Samsung's Knox.
I have L04, after updating manually root was wiped and stock recovery installed but was still getting bootloader warning. I booted into stock "erecovery" by holding volume up while booting. From there i restored stock firmware and when rebooted warning was gone. So I am now stock without unlocked warning on boot, YAY!
I unlocked my bootloader and then installed the B131 full update. Afterwards my bootloader was locked again and i had it to unlock again.
-> If you want to completely reset, install a full update and do a factory reset
@whiper: after the bootloader was locked and you unlock again, did the phone a factory reset?

Yes. The unlocking process was the same after the update as before including factory reset.
I think the B131 update includes all partitions so that the unlock flag is overwritten.
After the update all was normal, no data wipe, but bootloader locked. I had to unlock it again and all data was wiped.
When i do the next update i will try an ota version.
(With my Honor 7 i did a full update which does not lock the bootloader, so i think it depends from the partitions the update contains)
Guys, just to make it clear. I have a L04 model. i am bootloader unlocked, rooted and have TWRP installed. Is it possible to relock and go back to stock, but simply flashing the stock L04 firmware? Does Honor 8 have some inbuilt trip to notify that the bootloader is unlocked?

How to unbrick you NOKIA 6 TA-1021 and 1033.

This works only if you have working Fastboot AKA Download mode and you have unlocked your bootloader .
First download this --> https://github.com/StollD/NOST/releases/download/v0.6/NOST-v0.6.exe
Its a latest one and the working one. If you have LOST LA installed just unistall it. That doesnt work at all.
Then you need to download this FIRMWARE --> https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1smpap8mB0RZNk1j_HD0IJUX5LjFzKC4a&export=download
Then istall NOST and extract ZIP file. Launch NOST and select next. Make sure you phone is connect to your pc and it is fastboot mode "download mode" and find your phone. If it does then just click next. Now select the extracted nb0 file and go next.
If i remember right there is normal and rescue install method and some other too. I use the normal method. Then just go and start the install. Every first time it do something to my phone but give me the error and did not pass the install. But when i try it again it works just fine and finish the install. Then your phone should just do a reboot and voila, you have a stock nokia firmware installed succesfull.
After i do that, and my Nokia 6 1021 start, its download first PIE version and installed. After that i can do OTA install the latest PIE version. And i still can have my fastboot a live. So if you have like i have unlocked bootloader you can flash the latest TWRP and latest stable MAGISK 19. Then you have a working ROOT your phone
I just use "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img". Then "FASTBOOT REBOOT" and straight push volume up and power button together so long that your phone go twrp. If you fail its install stock recovery back. You can try again. I Try couple of time and i get it
Now my phone have latest PIE and latest MAGISK.
You need an unlocked bootloader for that.

You don't need to have unlocked bootloader to flash December 2017 update. Just boot on the recovery and update that on your SD card.
Still you don't need unlocked bootloader!

If everything goes well yes but if it doesn't boot (as I had when I had unlock the bootloader), it won't be able to use NOST because you need an unlocked bootloader to use it and flash the nb0

NOST refuses to flash your phone if your bootloader isn't unlocked critically. The old OST would just try to flash but never make any progress which confuses inexperienced users.

Thanks man, I edited.
My phone is hard bricked.
Recently I was continuously charging my phone with power bank. One night I forgot to put my phone on charge and it got discharged fully. I tried starting it in morning but it got stucked at Nokia logo, I tried getting it into recovery mode to reset it but was not able to because i haven't connected it to power before. Afterwards I connected it to my laptop whose charger was having earthing problem and giving shocks. In between trying to put my phone into recovery mode along with connected to laptop, the current passed through my phone for 2 times. And that was the last moment i had seen my phone's screen lighted, and then full blackout.
I have taken it to service center first, the person tried installing the software on phone again and confirmed phone is being detected by PC but unable to install software. They had given only one option to change the motherboard to fix it.
Then i tried getting it repaired at local shops, where a person told me internal memory IC has been shorted. Another person at different shop tried repairing it and was also not able to fix and said lastly that motherboard is dead.
I think maybe Hardware kernel got disturbed, so is there any method to install the hardware kernel again?
have you Nokia 6 TA-1033 SS firmware rom download link?
Links are dead

Update on unlocked U12+

I unlocked my U12 at the first day. Unfortunately I flashed a wrong boot.img to root it (TWRP was not out there).
Now I want to update it. My question: Can I OTA when I relock the bootloader, even with wrong boot.img? (It starts normally and I can use it).
Or is it not possible after root, so I have to use update.zip SD Card? And can I flash update.zip directly or should I relock the bootloader before?
And will relocking or update.zip delete my data?
Thanks
Do not re-lock your bootloader! Your device will be soft-bricked.
Just download a RUU (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wIRrVQawd5rD-t9VKPQ-SdRK20RcJVZhwD7lhmPIK8w/edit#gid=0) and flash it:
fastboot oem rebotRUU

Ahh thx, I´ve alredy downloaded it but didn´t know the command
Will be anything deleted?
And whats after that? Can I lock the bootloader after flashing it? Or will OTA work again? Because I´m not shure if the OTA fails because of the unlocked bootloader or the boot.img.
After flashing the RUU, boot into bootloader an look the software status. It it says "Modified" you shouldn't lock the bootloader.
You can apply the OTAs afterwards by entering the stock recovery and choose "Apply update from ADB".
Than download the both OTA-Zips and flash (https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=297589).

I tried it some hours ago and it worked! Software Status is still modified, but I was able to install the next OTA normally in System Settings. I will try the next OTAs tomorrow, maybe I´am on Pie soon.
Thanks for your help.
A last question: Can I reroot it again (with TWRP this time), remove it when another OTA is out, install it and root again? It should work.
