I haven't even had my Pixel for 2 months yet and already have a huge amount of dust inside the screen area.
It is NOT between the digitizer and screen protector, I peeled off and replaced the screen protector thinking that was the case but it is between the LCD and the digitizer!
I should note that I work in construction and I'm around dry wall dust all the time so I think it's drywall dust...
I'm just concerned that this is going to continue getting worse over time. I badly want to use compressed air to blow the dust out, but I'm afraid that attempting it will just blow more dust in.
Is there something defective about my phone or is it normal that it is apparently not sealed very well in the screen area?
I've had it in a case literally since day one, with a screen protector. I try to take good care of my phone's as I pay full retail so I don't lose my grandfathered unlimited data on VZW so I'm kind of upset that I'm going to have to replace my phone in a year when I can't see the screen anymore, not to mention a huge hit in the resale value of horribly dusty phone internals.

Just as a follow-up to this..
I contacted Google about the dust issue, which has since gotten worse, and I just received an RMA number today.
They want me to factory reset and send the device in and they are (I'm assuming) just going to replace it with a new one.
I explained that I ordered the phone from someone else who had originally ordered it directly from Google.
They also confirmed I will be receiving a Google version of the phone (unlockable BL) and not a Verizon (Locked BL) version (Unlockable like the one I have)
I was told that the phone is "dust resistant" and that this is seemed strange to them, especially being that the phone is less than 2 months old. They actually specifically said "[they] were glad brought this issue to their attention" which kind of makes me think perhaps there is/was something weird with production on some batches?
Next I'll be buying a new case which boasts "Water & Dust Proof" and hoping that it's not incredibly bulky and has muffled audio as many dust/water-proof cases experience.
If anyone else experiences dust buildup under the digitizer, I highly recommend contacting Google and getting your device repaired/replaced. They included a pre-paid postage label and everything so its quite a painless procedure, outside of having to switch back to my S5 for a week or so.
Just my two cents since you're going to be looking for a new case. I've had mine in an OtterBox commuter case since the day I bought it and have had no issues with dust or damage. I use mine as a flashlight for attic/basement crawls as well as toss it in drywall dust piles constantly. I'm pretty hard on it and I've had zero issues. It's not as slim as I'd like of a case but it's not too bulky and seems to protect pretty good.

Perfect! Thanks for the recommendation. I'll see what I can find online. I have a few days before my new phone will be here so I will get one ordered so I can get my phone back in a case as soon as it arrives.
Do you also have a standalone screen protector on yours or does the OtterBox provide a built-in screen protector?

The defender comes with a screen protector but the case is huge. The commuter does not come with one. I used one of those tempered glass protectors for about a day but didn't like how the edges didn't stick fully down so I took it off and have been running naked since about November and no noticable scratches. If you have a Verizon store close by they should stock the commuter.

Yeah, how fragile is the screen if you pocket the device?
The faceted back gets 2 wear marks on it quickly at the 2 high points on it since they are always rubbing on either the carry case or when you set it down on something. Mine is already showing wear on these two spots on the back after 10 days and I try to take good care of mine. My tilt looked mint after 11 months. Why does att not use a rubber coated back like the original touch pro does? Something tells me this phone will look like crap after a few months use. You have to clean it almost 3 times a day to keep it looking decent too.
I did see an add for a thin film that can be placed on the phone and it covers both the screen and the rest of of the device. They demonstrated by taking a key and 2 I-Pods. Then they scratched both. One was covered in their protected film and the other was not, It made a huge difference.
Something like this is what I would recommend. It is a little expensive but may save your device.

I already had a few light scratches on the screen because ATT had forgotten my screen protector in the CD bag for some reason, luckily the whole stylus switch issue had happened with my phone and I had a valid reason other than the scratches for an exchange.

Mine too! Can't wait to put some damage on the paint so I can happily skin it or strip it...
It's pretty and all but I agree, function over form.
BUT HTC HAS TO COMPETE WITH THE IPHONE WAAAAAA
Vodaphone had forgotten to give me a screen protector and got 2 bad scratches within the first day.
Emailed HTC and they do offer to refurbish the screen, but need to phone them for what cost.
They also say you can list it as a DOA (dead on arrival) with the retailer if it scraches, but mine is an ebay'ed one

I would think that polishing it may remove the oleophobic coating on the phone. I wouldn't do it, but maybe someone else on here knows better.
Out of curiosity, do you mind if I ask how you scratched the screen? Did it take a lot to scratch it? How bad is the scratch?

I scratched it when I dropped it out of my hand while picking it up. The sides of the phone are thin and slick and I think it is easy to let it slip for that reason. The phone dropped with the screen down on the stove, was a bad fall but I think the screen would have been largely undamaged if it would have had a screen protector installed.
Annoying is that I had ordered both the screen protector and silicone case for my wife's phone 2 weeks before I dropped it. If these items would have come in on time I would not have damaged her phone...
I wouldnt either. Seems a bit risky but u never know. It wont looks its touch factor but it will lose the top ole coat. Just slap a screen guard and ur good to go.
Don't know if it helps but I scratched my galaxy s screen which is samoled,and tried to polish it out, it left a permanent smudge ,looking worse than the original scratch!

Your best bet is to convince Best Buy that there is a defect with your phone and you need a replacement.
Don't feel as though you're scamming them. They scam people on a daily basis.
I noticed a few scratches on the bottom part of my screen and convinced BB that it was a defect so they exchanged it. I had also spoken to a represenative on the phone and was told that you can only do an exchange if you payed full price for the phone. Don't know if its true but that's what I was told

You might want to apply some silicon around the screen's edges to prevent dust. The one I used was Ultra Black.
After that, get a case that seals the edges as well. I use the Incipio case, real good material and a great snug fit.

I'll have to check this case out. I've already had my phone replaced once under warranty with TMO but I've already gotten dust under this screen too. And this after TMO told me that they HTC had "fixed" the issue. Obviously not. Going to swap this one out again before my warranty is up in a month or two.

Yep, a case definitely helps. Especially one that rises over the screen and covers the edges. It seals the phone from dust. Doesn't hurt opening the phone up daily and cleaning it with a q-tip too.

I prevent dust under my screen successfully by using a plastic phone case that wraps over the corners of the phone and snaps tightly.I've had my device for almost a year now and the case has prevented the dust from coming under the screen! You can buy these types of cases on amazon very cheap about 5 dollars . They have a huge selection. Or you can try the silicone tricks. Personally I'd much rather use the case than put silicone on my device. These cases snap tightly shut and are hard plastic. They are not easy to get off but very effective in preventing the dust from entering! Hope this helps. It works for me! I also use a screen protector so the cases is wrapped Over the protector.
It's nice and tight . No dust whatsoever! I'd give it a try. Make sure to get the hard plastic case the others Are not tight enough. Best wishes! The top of the case covers the corners . It works wonderfully! It's up to you in whatever you decide to do but at least you have another option. It works like a charm!

its not bout scratches its bout how well you take care of your phone because it comes with gorilla glass 4 so it shgould last if you take care of it.
Gorilla Glass 4 my ass. I baby my phones and have never scratched a screen until this one. Super disappointed with GG4 or Samsung's implementation...
I also take care of my phones VERY much, and can see some scratches visible on sunlight after 3 months. I never put my phone with something that can scratch it. But then again, I saw those little scratches on every phone I had. Good thing about older phones is that it wasn't so freaking hard to find a screen protector

When U live in Serbia, ordering things is a pain in the.. Neck
I have a friend that works in a larger phone accessory shop here, and he said that none of the protectors they have are full screen or that they always have bubbles.
Have U tried any? Maybe a suggestion so I know which protectors are good for ordering online.
I have a galaxy alpha with gorilla glass 4, and also have the small scratches.
These small scratches come from sand,dirt,dust that is harder than the screen and rubs against your phone in your pocket, these small scratches are unavoidable without screenprotector.
But these are small so they don't bother me, what worries me more is the back glass which is not GG4 and scratches more easy.

One day around month 3 I was removing the phone from my otter box case and with the littlest bit of flexing the back glass cracked horribly. I found this to be very annoying since this is supposed to be a "prime" quality phone with gorilla glass 4. I think it was more like gurly glass 4 as I bearly flexed the phone at all and am a very caring / gentle phone user and have owned many and never cracked a case/screen ever. My question is has anyone had broken glass, front or back replaced under samsungs warranty or am I crap outta luck? I called Samsung once and they said it's not covered. Since it was not outside of proper use I feel I was fed a line. Any help or suggestions? Very dissapointed in gorilla glass 4,and Samsung for placing it all over all sides of the gs7 in a very thin manner.
Makes me rethink if I'll ever purchase another Samsung again.

Hard or rigid protectors can't cover the whole screen because the edge has a bevel. I got an anti-glare matte screen protector and it works great

Well those back panels can be bought for like 13 bucks and can be easy to replace but you will lose the waterproof tho.

But I don't really want a rigid protector, I mean, i have been using plastic film protectors on all my phones, because I'm very gentle with them and just want to keep them from small pocket scratches. I just need a full screen one that will go over those 2.5d edges of the glass. I also don't like those matte protectors, they totally mess up the screen quality
I had 3 years SG S4 and only one little scratch. After 3 days having S7 I have already weird "graze" (is it correct word in English?) . Is not visible when screen is clean but dirt always stay in the same place. I'm VERY disappointed. Also afraid about home button made of plastic !
My first S7 edge had a super Deep scratch right on the screen curve, stay that for awhile before it turn in a crack going across the screen.

I bought a Fosmon screen protector for both mine and my wife's S7s and they fit really well. If you apply them correctly then you won't have any bubbles. I never use the guides or anything to put it on, I just go slowly and use a credit card to smooth out bumps. Cleaning your phone screen first with alcohol and a lint free wipe cuts down on anything left on the screen to cause bubbles.

Since you went hostile... You might wanna to stop being a **** and start your own thread, for your own issue, instead of hijacking this thread. You broke your phone and that isn't a warranty issue, which Samsung already explained to you. He offered you info the help you quickly & easily fix your phone for very little $.
As for screen scratches on my S7, I don't have any so far. No screen protector either. I guess it's probably nerdy, but I carry my phone in a Nite-Ize holster, on my belt, and never in my pocket. So far, I've never scratched a screen on any of my phones since the OG Droid. I had a screen protector on my OG Droid, for a few months, but that's been the only one I've used.

What's your problem? Maybe you should just STFU then if you get mad bout people helping your dumb ass. You break your own phone and come in hete crying bout warranty while this treath is about scratches on the screen. So next time calm down or dont reply
Personally if your just using it day to day you wont see any scratches on your phone especially since the Galaxy S7 has gorilla glass 4. I would recommend a screen protector or even a glass screen protector if you are the type of person who chucks around their phone and doesn't really care about it.
You should be fine using it without a screen protector

yup. had 2 on day 3 as well while it was on a case since day 1. quite disappointing.
Will cover it with dbrand or something like what gadgetshieldz offers (clear protecting skin).
My front glass has been scratched as well not too sure if it has olephobic coating, idk how it happened I'm really careful w my device.
That's why the first thing I buy with any phone is the cheap sofiguards on eBay. Protect the back

Yep, I anticipated the back would scratch quite easily. So I installed a full coverage DBrand skin for the back and the camera lens, just after pulling the phone from the packaging. Then I immediately put the phone in the OnePlus Nylon case. This, paired with the OnePlus tempered glass protector, should keep my phone pristine for higher resale value down the road.

I am using the protective case given, still prone to scratch. And I'm giving a heads up for the people using this phone, to be extra careful.

No, he's saying that phones with glass backs have been prone to scratching quite easily for years (Galaxy S8/S9, iPhones, Pixel, Pixel 2 etc.). And they all use the same "Gorilla Glass 5". At this point it should be common sense to expect a phone with a glass back to scratch, even in a case. Cases can move slightly and rub against the back of the phone, causing these scratches. It's worse when debris gets between the phone and the case too.
It shouldn't be a surprise to you or anyone that this is going to happen. The best way to prevent it is with a full coverage skin for the back, prior to installing it in a case. But even that isn't 100% full proof.
Regardless, to complain about the back scratching is just silly, at this point.
