I have an unlocked Galaxy S7 Edge. I saw that the Nougat update was finally released, but could only be installed through smart switch. I'm currently stuck at 70% with Software Update In Process and it hasn't moved in about 15 minutes. What should I do?
I have done the following:
*Installed Smart Switch and connected the phone to see the update
*Initiated the update. It downloaded for a while and then switched the device to "Downloading... Do not Turn off Target Mode"
*Device Manager shows that the phone is still connected.
*There has been no change is about 15 minutes.
Am I screwed?
Sounds soft bricked. I don't think you're screwed, probably something to do with a pesky .img file I'm guessing?
I ended up force powering it down The emergency recovery in smart switch worked, in finished the rest of the install.
My Note 4 Not so Lucky
What the hell is wrong with Smartswitch?? It has bricked my Note 4. It stopped in the middle of firmware update and I never saw any kind of recovery code it kept asking me to enter.
Now my phone is a paper weight. Does not turn on, is not recognized by my pc. I am screwed beyond screwed.

Hi,
i put my phone on fast charging and the phone never started again. I had seen similar problem before where after fast charging my phone would restart once or twice with the entry screen facing blown up pixels and phone acting funny. But this time around after some resarts it just wont go anywhere ahead of the first samsung screen.

I have an identical problem as above. Unfortunately Smart Switch will not recognize the device. When I put in the model and S/N manually it tells me the S/N is invalid. Samsung has been zero help with this.
I can access the download screen by pressing vol down + home + pwr, and I have reinstalled the latest update (5.1.1) which I had installed 2 months ago, but it still hangs after the restart.
I cannot power down the phone with the pwr button.
I cannot access recovery mode nor get it to be recognized via adb. It simply does not move past the first screen.
I am overseas (Indonesia) and the local Samsung Repair Center will not touch the S6 Active (despite it being under warranty). Shipping it to the US service center is unfeasible.
Any ideas on what I can do to even just get it to recovery mode? I was hoping to perform a factory reset as I (luckily!) transferred all my important docs and images/vids off the phone. I'm willing to wipe the puppy clean and start over, if it will only let me!
PS: I don't consider myself a developer, but I do have plenty of experience rooting and moding phones, and ironically, this unrooted, legitimate, Knox-approved phone is only thing that has ever stumped me like this!
Update: I managed to get it to BEGIN the recovery boot process... It showed the robot with the spinning thing for a few seconds while in the upper left corner it says "installing updates...". After about 3 seconds the screen goes blank and it restarts at the Samsung S6 Active and hangs. Now when I try to enter recovery mode it cycles through like it is attempting to start recovery mode but just ends up back at the first screen again...
im facing the same problem, anyone can help us please ?
U can't flash stock firmware over old firmware, you've gotta wipe first, and since you can't get into recovery, flash twrp and format data it worked for me, and since you don't have warranty, it won't matter unless u wanna use Samsung pay, don't flash twrp if u want to keep your Knox counter!!! It'll trip it 0x1 hope I helped
I was recently trying to Flash Marshmallow onto my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. Model # SM-T713 Everything was going smoothly until the cable disconnected the device in the middle of the flash! Now my tablet is stuck in the download mode screen, with a progress bar that is painfully close to finished, but not quite, frozen on the same level. And Odin is still open, after it happened it obviously read "Failed" on the progress box above the port #.
So I hit the "Reset" and "Start" buttons again, respectively. But every time I do that, it gets stuck on "Setup Connection" ... one time it got as far as "boot.img" but then froze again.
I'm really scared that because of a touchy cord, I may have just ruined a 300 dollar tablet that I just bought... Someone please help! I don't want to turn off or restart the computer or the tablet until this issue is resolved, for fear of bricking it further...
Did I screw it up completely? It was going so well.... (((
Hi!
Don't worry it also happened to me the first time I flashed a new firmware (my luck xD)
The only thing you have to do is unplug, force shutdown your device, and power it again. It will show you a screen to tell you that something is wrong (A phone plugged to a computer with a warning triangle if I correctly remember...)
In fact you still in Download mode. You just have to retry the flashing operation and THIS TIME BE CAREFUL WITH THE CABLE....

Powering down then booting to download again then flashing again should work fine.
But if the faulty flash corrupts boot and then prevents booting to download mode or the "encountered a problem" screen with the phone, triangle and PC, you'll be in a more difficult situation.

I DO NOT PROVIDE HELP IN PM, KEEP IT IN THE THREADS WHERE EVERYONE CAN SHARE
Hey guys!
So basically I will start from the top:
1. Device is Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite (SM-N770F) (F/DS if it matters really)
What happened is:
I've wanted to install Android 11 update on my phone - downloaded SamFirm app, searched for correct firmware for my region (I've made sure to select appropriate device and region).
Then I've downloaded Odin (3.14.1), loaded all files correctly - no errors or anything, started the process in Odin and after some time I got an error on the phone - Custom Binary(SUPER) Blocked By OEM Lock.
Now what happens is that I can't do literally anything with my device - it's turned on constantly on the same screen, on the top I can see the above error in red font, while on the center of the screen there is message "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software." - which I of course did, but Smart Switch doesn't even see the device or anything.
I can't turn off the device - while I press power and volume down button, it just goes black for a moment and comes right back up on the same screen no matter what.
Although, I think it's in downloading mode - Odin still sees it correctly (when I plug it in or out I can see changes in Odins screen).
Tried downloading older versions through SamFirm, other versions of Odin, other USB in computer, other cable - no luck at all.
Did I fully bricked the device? Or is it just soft bricked? Is there anything I can do now? Can Samsung center help me? I've tried chatting with them but they just sent me to their facility.
I'd do literally anything to fix this. Please help me, I'm desperate.
If you can get into recovery, i would try factory reset there. Then go to downloadmode and try complete new flash of newest version with csc (not home_csc). But im not sure, wether it is possible to flash with odin if bootloader is not unlocked in this new samsungs. I allways used odin with unlocked bootloader.
can't get into recovery - only thing I see is the above mentioned screen and there is 0 possibility of going anywhere else

I experienced similar situation, but in my case, even my phone stuck in download mode screen, ODIN did not detect my phone, even PC wasn't response when plug in USB cable. As same as you say, when I tried to power off, it was power on itself and "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software" message appear on screen.
Then I tried to enter download mode again in download mode screen, by pressing power off, and after screen go black press immediately volume up+down. After that phone enter the download mode screen (again), it was looks like the same, but this time I was able to install firmware. Actually I really dont understand why this method work but you can give a try.
Unfortunately, still no luck.
But I've thought about other thing. Do you think it's possible to use .PIT file and re-partition option in Odin?
From what I've read everywhere this will wipe all partition data (so basically it should wipe every single thing) from the device, so it should be possible to overcome this oem lock, shouldn't it? Or will I just brick the device even further? I'm kinda desperate here as the phone is about 2-3 months so it's as brand new...
Edit: I think I've found another issue here. My device model is SM-N770F/DS so it's a Dual Sim model, while everywhere I only see firmware for SM-N770F so without dual sim. May it cause problems as well? How about the above option with flashin firmware with pit file and wiping partitions?
If you have figured it out by now good for you. If not, that emergency screen you see is nothing to fear. You can flash firmware with Odin from that screen...no worries your not bricked. Just do as you would if the device were in download mode..flash away.
Was your bootloader unlocked?
Hello, my phone was rooted with Magisk for about a year now. Today, the battery died while I was watching a video on youtube, and the phone shut down. When I tried to charge it, the screen woke up with red text on top saying "Custom binary blocked by FRP lock" and it kept showing this in a loop. The screen wakes up with the text, and blacks out. then again wakes up.
I tried Googling, and the solution I saw everywhere was to flash the stock firmware. I had done this once before, so
I downloaded ODIN, and then firmware from here (https://updato.com/download-samsung.../sl/sm-j120g/06975F2714E911E7963AFA163EE8F90B).
It was one .md5 file, so I put it in the AP slot and started.
Halfway through, the phone's screen blacked out and quickly came back in, but Odin said the process Failed, and the phone showed the following message.
"An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software"

Now, it is stuck on the above message. It is not like the normal download mode, but I can still flash the firmware through Odin. But always, halfway through, it gives the same error. The screen blackens, then quickly wakes up (takes like one second). Also, the phone doesn't seem to be charging, as when I disconnect it from the PC, it turns off completely.
My guess is, as the phone doesn't charge, it is an issue with the battery being dead.
I tried the smart switch app, but it doesn't recognize the phone.
The device is Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016) SM-J120G.
It has TWRP installed, but I can't access it now.
Rooted with Magisk.
Please help, I am a complete noob on this subject.

try it with a different cable, fresh download of the firmware, different computer or just try it several times in a row. itll likely work with a combination of some of those aforementioned methods. also could be the batt is too dead

Hello, I tried everything except downloading the firmware again, coz my internet is too slow. Also, I think the issue is with the phone.
First I connected the phone to the charger and left it to charge for more than 4 hours, but it still turns black randomly. So, either it is not being charged, or it's not a battery issue. Also, I tried with my brother's PC, and with another cable but the same result.
I think the device automatically reboots. When the screen goes black, it disconnects from the PC which results in failure. This happens even when not connected to a PC.
So basically, I am stuck on that error message. Once in a while, the screen turns black. Because it turns black before the flashing process is finished, it always fails.
Can you guess why the screen turns black randomly?
Thanks.
@ChathinduN
You get the Android's Black Screen Of Death because Android OS couldn't get loaded properly.
My recommendation: Re-flash Stock ROM.

you very well might have a corrupted DL of the FW. Get Samfirm and download the FW with that. Its literally 4 to 5x faster than directly from sammobile.com/firmwares
its not the usual reboot loop, it gets not even that far, its stuck to the "this phone is jailbroken, hit power to pause" after that it just reboots, while empty.
i tried to switch it off, to ensure loading, but keeping the powerbutton 10sec pressed,is impossible, there is not enough time.
i tried to switch into the bootloader, and say switch off, well it goes back into the loop 2sec later, since it got a bit power, it tries its nonsense.
i tried differend loading methods, pc usb, usb pure (2.1mAh), and the oneplus speedloader adapter with the red cable.
what happend before, well it got empty, and switched off,the apps and such didnt change for about a year, it worked, and thats it.
the accu cell got changed about a year ago, by my insurance company, the old one balooned. so they changed it,meaning its not even a old cell.
trying fastload in bootloader, didnt help getting it charged, anything else just relooped.
iam open for suggestions.

I think ur phone might be soft bricked or idk. But I'm pretty sure the problems didn't caused by the new battery.
Seems the phone didn't recognize the /system/ or something on twrp that says "There's no system installed" coz i've faced that (no system installed) before.
If u can manage boot into bootloader, try to fastboot a twrp.img and flash a stock firmware.
If u can't, or let's just say you really feel ur phone in fked up state, try to reflash everything with MSM Download Tool.

It is much better to state the status of your device briefly. Like are you on OOS or custom ROM, unlocked bootloader, with custom recovery installed, magisk installed, etc. Then tell the story on what you did or what happen before your phone got the issue you stated. Then maybe someone can help you in more specific way.
Like Azhar_Fahry recommended, I also recommend using MSM tool and revert back to original state like you first bought your device.
