[App][4.1+][CAF] Chromium for Snapdragon - Android Apps and Games

CAF no longer updates the source so this project is in limbo. If CAF ever starts updating again, I will post new builds.
This is a Chromium Browser built on the CodeAurora source (optimized for Snapdragon devices).
Main changes from source:
-added extra webrefiner (adblock) lists
-changed icon / branding / colouring
Notes:
This browser has no Google Sync. See this link for more information: http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...owsers-android-citing-security-vulnerability/
If you have root and want to have sync, see this link: https://www.xda-developers.com/how-...-with-third-party-chrome-browsers-on-android/

Nice build, works well. Would it be possible to add duckduckgo as a search provider.

Yep, I'll add it in the next build. CAF should be promoting m58 to stable and m59 to beta in the next few days.

m59 is out, build coming later today.

Nice work.
Can you add fullscreen mode to your builds?

As soon as I'm finished upgrading my build VM I'll give it a go (m59 requires 14.04).

Updated m58 to Stable
Compiled m59 to Beta
Tonight I will try merging the fullscreen / DuckDuckGo patches and see what happens

I've updated the links for m58 and m59 with new builds, fixing a few things. I've added DuckDuckGo as an option for search engine, but could not get the fullscreen patch to work without it constantly crashing (the code seems to be for an older version of Chrome).
[Edit]: If you try and change the search engine through settings, you may get a crash, but when you go back into it again it should work the second time. Trying to isolate why this is happening.

Nice work! Love using it, please keep going

@lexcyn, your build is awesome. Faster than Tuga in every benchmark and rock solid. Is it very complicated to add the pie control the same way the venerable old AOSP vanilla browser did? There is an Xposed module for that, ChromePIE, but having it included in the browser code as an option would be awesome and fully compatible with Nougat. The sources are here: https://github.com/JayT5/ChromePie. It was originally ripped from the code of the AOSP browser.
Nice build!!!

AWESOME!!!
:highfive:
By the way, the sources of the original AOSP browser (deprecated by google after Jelly Bean) are here https://github.com/ShinyROM/android_platform_packages_apps_browser . The java class PieControl is located inside the src/com/android/browser folder. Also available from the Google Git. This could ease the implementation in your browser. It would be unique with this feature !!!!
The AOSP browser was my favorite, faster and lighter than Chrome. However changes in the webview made it incompatible with Lollipop.

Tons of changes (see changelog link in first post), uplevelled to m59.0.3071.49

2017-05-19
Merged latest patches as seen in source log. Not much going on here!
I looked into the pie controls but the code from the AOSP browser is REALLY old and some of the things it needs to run don't even exist any more... it would mean re-writing a lot of code for the newer V8 engine, which is beyond me sadly.

I wonder if you would be so kind as to add something to your 2nd post? A step-by-step procedure to activate ART. This would be a work in progress I suppose, as more info comes in. At the moment there is no central place, just widely spread out posts in numerous threads.

I can report newest build works flawless so far. ART is working, breaks Superuser though. Use SuperSU instead. Had the same with an early build of Slimkat on my Nexus7, no idea how they fixed this.
Awesome work TJKV!
/Edit: It won't boot anymore Don't know, what I did that caused this. I got everything ready, rebooted to backup and that's it.
/Edit2: again :-/ I flashed again, got ART ready, flashed gapps, SuperSU and restored /data from the backup I took. Booted up just fine, with all apps but greenify (that one was missing, no idea why). Installed greenify, didn't do anything else of note. Doesn't boot anymore.
/Edit3: after 3 times battery pulled the phone finally booted!
/Edit4: restoring a backup of CM now, maybe I give it another go tomorrow.

[ROM][CM11][grouper] OpenPDroid-patched CyanogenMod 11 builds for Nexus 7 2012 Wi-Fi

Main thread: OpenPDroid patches for CyanogenMod 11
WARNING: OpenPDroid is not compatible with ART for now. disable ART before flashing. enabling ART will cause the device to fail to boot. if you enabled ART and are unable to boot, flash official CyanogenMod temporarily to be able to fix (will cause privacy leaks). or if you have ADB access in android or recovery, you can disable ART by using setprop or editing a file.
these are grouper builds of CyanogenMod 11 patched with OpenPDroid. find them here.
update: releases will now be distributed as overlays to the official CyanogenMod snapshots. first flash the official "M" snapshot corresponding to the OpenPDroid overlay you want to flash, then flash the overlay.
update: device-specific builds are being phased out in favor of the generic overlays. please refer to this post.
note: OpenPDroid does not affect the recovery nor the kernel, you can use whatever you want.
CM11-M6 broke OpenPDroid patches, so i forked OpenPDroid to restore compatibility, fix several bugs and clean up the code. sources are here.

Quick question do you have a recommended GApps package? Or do you have replacement( open source app market, besides fdroid)?
---------- Post added at 04:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:27 AM ----------
? ? So far very nice! This things SMMMOOOOTHH!
I haven't added anything as far as apks yet. Just testing everything out. Rotation, from portrait to landscape and back again while loading browser on resource intensive page, was super responsive. And as far as initial boot up after install, WOW - fastest I've seen.
This works very well inside MultiROM Manager. I'm using 3.1.10 M-Kernel a69 dirty. @Lanchon Really looking foward to what updates you have for this. ??
Camera and video are the best quality so far on any N7 ROM, most others are very grainy. I've installed ShowBox v2.3 (movies, shows) and haven't had any freeze ups. TuneIn Radio plays smooth. YouTube through the browser works great also.
Getting ready to stress the system with some apps for the next couple of days.
No complaints yet.☺

i dont know about gapps really.
hey thanks for the comments, but im afraid this rom doesnt have any performance improvements over official CM11 M9. in fact, it should be slower due to OPD: it introduces db lookups during many API calls. i suggest you try official M9 unless you are using PDroid Manager.
update: releases will now be distributed as overlays to the official CyanogenMod snapshots. first flash the official "M" snapshot corresponding to the OpenPDroid overlay you want to flash, then flash the overlay. full rom releases are unsupported as of now.

Running smooth but I found some bugs.
* Permissions doesn't seem to be working correctly, you have to set all permissions manually per app through the app manager, otherwise they will crash. For instance, I tried downloading a file through Chrome, and Chrome needed permission to file storage, but instead of allowing me to select allow, the app crashes. It works after I set it manually though, but it's kind of tedious for every app!
* Screen rotation gets stuck sometimes, only thing that solves it is a reboot.
Missing some features like % for battery and stuff, but I guess that'll come eventually

I think I have a possible fix for that package manager crash. I'll try a build the day after. Have an exam tomorrow, so have to study today. And for rotation, try parrot mod, see if that fixes your issue. Its a common issue as far as the device is concerned.
Is it for LTE version ?

[APP][4.0+][Snapdragon][CAF] Code Aurora's Chromium SWE Browser with auto-updater

This is a custom build of Code Aurora's Chromium for Snapdragon. This build aims to deploy the stock Chromium SWE with only few additions. For now the only additions to the browser are: custom icon, custom name, adblock, more search engines. I also wrote an updater app that will search for new builds once a day, and will notify if one is found.
Links to build and updater app:
Auto updater app
Auto updater app source code
Chromium SWE Builds
Update: F-Droid
The app is now available on F-Droid.
Please bear in mind that F-Droid builds its version of the app using its own keys for signing. This means that my build of the app isn't compatible with theirs, and if you want to switch from one to the other you'll need to uninstall first.
UPDATE: version 1.4.1
The auto updater app has been updated, you can download it from the link above (the link has been updated).
This update corrects a major bug in the app.

AFAIK Google does not permit sync with their accounts to third party apps anymore.

Ok this is not so good. A browser without my bookmarks i can not use it.

Thanks for the link .
Regarding the source code, this build it's basically stock CAF Chromium for Snapdragon with only few branding options added (such as the icon, name and adblock). You can find the code on Code Aurora's site or by following the link in the OP.

Chromium Browser [Updated weekly]

Hello, here's the open source Chromium web browser. Can't find it in the play store due to it having nightly updates/builds. I will try my best to give a weekly updated build. Thanks and enjoy. Don't forget to hit the thanks[emoji106] button.
BIG THANKS TO @andDevW FOR THE APP THAT COMPILES IT FROM THE SOURCE AND TURNS IT INTO AN APK.
Chromium.apk 5/5/18 Download Link
Thanks for the shout-out.
Here's the direct link to my latest release APK: https://anddevw.com/assets/apk/getchromium/app-release.apk
The app is entirely open source so you can verify everything that it does and if you have any questions or issues, you can get help here.
Building Chromium from source requires more memory (8GB) than any current production Android device has, so I went with downloading the official Chromium Team release from Google's repository and unpacking and installing it. You can do the exact same process manually (if you have a good file manager like Amaze) by downloading the official latest build of Chromium for Android here https://download-chromium.appspot.com/dl/Android?type=snapshots, unzipping it and installing ChromePublic.apk.
I designed getChromium with developers and Debian users in mind, so updating is a deliberate user-initiated process, generally followed by revisiting chrome://flags and enabling new experimental features that weren't available in the previous build. There's no point in automating that, and anyone unfamiliar with this type of manual updating and enabling flags would probably be better served by *Google's Chrome Canary.
*For the record, Google released Chrome Canary for Android 6 months after I released getChromium.
can you please take a look at this Brave Browser issue especially the commit that fixes it , https://github.com/brave/browser-android-tabs/issues/167
it's literally identical to the one that affects Bromite where it request permissions on every boot up.
For those of you who have MyAndroidTools app on your phone, 1)open it 2)click on Services 3) click Third Party 4) Click Bromite 5) Disable ChromeBrowserSyncAdaptiveService and ChromeGcmListenerService 6)open your terminal emulator and type Reboot so as to skip the shutdown animation.
Enjoy without the nag for account permission ??

I think you can activate that by going to Chrome://flags and enabling Chrome home.
