Found this here and it works great.
Type the following commands in adb/fastboot environment (adb shell) on your PC after connecting the phone in file transfer mode and usb debugging is on:
· Hide Status Bar only type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.status=*
· Hide Navigation Bar only type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=*
· Hide Both Bars type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
· Back to normal/default type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control null*

When not in use, the navigation slides down and gives you the entire screen. Swipe up to bring it back. Say bye bye to any burn in issues.

It gets annoying cause you go to swipe up for the nav bar and it pulls up your s pay card. Also in messaging and some other apps that use the keyboard you swipe up for the nav bar and it brings up the keyboard and if you try to hide the keyboard and just bring up the nav bar the keyboard keeps coming up. I also noticed this breaks Samsung web browser open windows page and and add a new window. It just shows a blank page pretty much and if you try to open a new window or tap any of the options on this page nothing happens. Is it just my phone that does this or are other people having issues with this also? It's a awesome mod and thanks for sharing, if we could get those bugs fixed I would use it. I do a lot of adb testing stuff so this may have caused the issues I was having.
I would love to have the nav bar there all the time with the black semi transparent nav bar but not sure that can be done without modding the sysui framework. If anyone knows the command or if it's even possible to do through adb without root of course that would be great!

i already hide navigation bar, but i need status bar (batery life, connections, clock) but i hate his black fade, i need transparent status bar. Is that posible true adb shell settings commands? or somehow ? Thanks much!
there is way to keep the navi buttons shown all the time with out hide ?
Is there a way to keep the soft keys hidden at all times ? with the pressure sensitive home key and gesture controls i could actually do without them
How do I do this? Lol. I never messed with the adb stuff really.. don't recall much about how to type in commands.. also, what will happen when I get a system update? Thanks in advance
Thanks for this, Op. I'll keep me happy until root if possible. Nice to see mods that don't require root hehe.
Thanks

Hi just wondering if anyone can shed any light on this random menu bar that's appeared on my phone? I've closed all applications with es task manager and it's still there. I'm running Jellybeans on a galaxy note 2
If anyone can direct me where to get rid of it would be most appreciated.
Cheers guys!

I had a app popup as the playstore, and it was a spam type popup from an app i installed a long time ago, DOWNLOAD AIRPUSH detector also as a double check if experience any abnormal popups to your GUI . it found the app and i uninstalled it ASAP (it was a workout app)
That popup is not abnormal, it is a feature of the last update. It's called multi-card, and allows you to manage 2 or more applications simultaneously on the screen; if you drag one of the icons on the desktop it opens the corresponding application, and if you drag another will open the new application under the one that is opened before
That's amazing cheers guys! It was properly bothering me becaues it would pop up every now and then and I didn't know why!
Is it possible to add other applications to the selection to use in multi windows?

No, for now, the apps supported are only the ones you see
While this question is not directly related to Nexus 5, but since it is one of the few devices running KitKat, I'm posting it here. Its been more than a month since KitKat has launched, but even today the "immersive mode" (which I feel is SO important!) has not been translated to many apps that I use regularly -- Kindle, Pocket, Feedly etc. Its not like these apps haven't updated in the last month or so (they have). Is there any reason why these companies have not considered putting immersive mode as a priority item?
Stability is always the priority. Ask the developers of each app if they plan to support it. We don't know the answer in that, we cannot read minds

There is an Xposed module on these forums somewhere, that enables immersive mode everywhere. It has a few flaws though, as some apps just don't work right with it, or once the navigation bar pops back up, it cuts off the portion of the screen.
However the ones that did work with it, it worker great. It would be nice for someone to make an app or tweak to force selected apps into immersive mode, while allowing the navigation bar to stay where needed.

I still use expanded desktop + PIE controls. I think it works better than immersive mode. I turn it on when gaming.
I used the "Immerse me" xposed module, but it had some issues. Fore example in the AOSP messaging app, when the keyboard popped up, the last message received appeared inbetween the keyboard and where I was typing the message, but only partly. part was behind where I typed teh message. I found that disorientating. Also in tapatalk, which I use a lot - when the keyboard came up, teh top of tapatalk (the tapatalk toolbar) disappeared and I couldn't scroll. Really tricky to use with Pie as I had to keep backing out of the keyboard to do things within tapatalk when typing messages.

Hey man thanks for this! This is pretty much what I've been wanting. Now I can use the full resolution of my nexus 5! Great for streaming my PC games. Woohoo!
Would still be nice to have some sort of way to choose what apps go full screen, cuz it would just be easier to already have the nav bar for apps that are better suited for it, then go away on ones you want full screen for, but this is still a lot better than the immersive module for xposed. Thanks again.

Hey no prob, happy to help. It kinda breathes new life into the phone, doesn't it? This mod saved my N5 from being tossed in a drawer. I use it more than my Moto X now, just because of gaming on its 5" screen.
A lot of people have been having trouble finding out how to enable download booster and until a developer makes a mod to enable the native settings in your settings this is the only wave I know of to be able to do so.
In order to do this you will need to use a third party launcher. In this example I use Nova Launcher - launchers like Apex should work as well (as well as most decent third party launchers).
1. Go to home screen.
2. Hold down your finger on the screen till menu pops up.
3. Click on Shortcuts.
4. Click on Activities.
5. Scroll down to "Settings" and click on it which will open up a long list of things.
6. Scroll through the list till you find Download Booster. Click on it.
7. Now you will have a shortcut on your home screen that will take you to the download booster settings screen.
8. Enable download booster.
9. Enjoy
P.S. Wasn't 100% what forum to put this under as it's obviously not "development" nor did I think it was general or Q/A so I thought here was the most fitting (as it is kinda an "app" I guess?) - mods feel free to move to this to the appropriate forum if need be.

Also like the S5 from Sprint its there but thats all it is until someone can get it working. When its working it will show both download speeds and show the icon as bright not grey. Unless its working for someone else i just know its not for me same issue with s5 until someone modded it.
I understand what this does, but what is the benefits of enabling this? Does this interfere with Wifi calling?

how can you switch back to 5.2 ? I downloaded from apkmirror but cannot install. need to uninstall first?
I can see that when in nova/home, the dot for show/hide navbar is gone, and navbar will always show.
but in other apps, it will follow hide/show setting and dot is there.
There's 2 ways
Native settings in display, and finding a theme that does transparent bars

The dot is working in the apps, but not in the homescreen anymore. Just updated Nova.
Suggest you *ALL* contact the dev, and leave negative reviews on the app store or youll be stuck with it like that forever. It is sheer stupidity. Most people use nova for the customisation, removing the ability to do this is pretty stupid.
2 other ideas
1, does anyone know a transparent dark theme that would take care of this problem
2, any other launcher with this much power that would keep doing this

Can use adb to hide navbar even in nova launcher.
