While this question is not directly related to Nexus 5, but since it is one of the few devices running KitKat, I'm posting it here. Its been more than a month since KitKat has launched, but even today the "immersive mode" (which I feel is SO important!) has not been translated to many apps that I use regularly -- Kindle, Pocket, Feedly etc. Its not like these apps haven't updated in the last month or so (they have). Is there any reason why these companies have not considered putting immersive mode as a priority item?
Stability is always the priority. Ask the developers of each app if they plan to support it. We don't know the answer in that, we cannot read minds

There is an Xposed module on these forums somewhere, that enables immersive mode everywhere. It has a few flaws though, as some apps just don't work right with it, or once the navigation bar pops back up, it cuts off the portion of the screen.
However the ones that did work with it, it worker great. It would be nice for someone to make an app or tweak to force selected apps into immersive mode, while allowing the navigation bar to stay where needed.

I still use expanded desktop + PIE controls. I think it works better than immersive mode. I turn it on when gaming.
I used the "Immerse me" xposed module, but it had some issues. Fore example in the AOSP messaging app, when the keyboard popped up, the last message received appeared inbetween the keyboard and where I was typing the message, but only partly. part was behind where I typed teh message. I found that disorientating. Also in tapatalk, which I use a lot - when the keyboard came up, teh top of tapatalk (the tapatalk toolbar) disappeared and I couldn't scroll. Really tricky to use with Pie as I had to keep backing out of the keyboard to do things within tapatalk when typing messages.

Could you elaborate on this? A quick play store search couldn't find expanded desktop, but I found something called pie control.

Hey man thanks for this! This is pretty much what I've been wanting. Now I can use the full resolution of my nexus 5! Great for streaming my PC games. Woohoo!
Would still be nice to have some sort of way to choose what apps go full screen, cuz it would just be easier to already have the nav bar for apps that are better suited for it, then go away on ones you want full screen for, but this is still a lot better than the immersive module for xposed. Thanks again.

Hey no prob, happy to help. It kinda breathes new life into the phone, doesn't it? This mod saved my N5 from being tossed in a drawer. I use it more than my Moto X now, just because of gaming on its 5" screen.

zMooth works on rooted Droid's with rooted android 2.2+.
zMooth lets you use gestures to mimic your device's hardware keys (back, home, menu and power(in Pro)), you will be able to use very intuitive gestures to navigate your device.
zMooth is unobtrusive and uses minimum amount of screen space but very easy and intuitive to use. If you use for couple of days you won't even think about using the buttons.
After you install the app you will see a blue area at the bottom of the screen, swipe left on this area to go back, swipe right for menu, gesture a up-arrow(^) for home and gesture a lightning strike/thunderbolt to power off. Please check the screen shots and video for more info.

Support is built-in to the app, "Preferences->Help" will resolve most issues. If not resolved just contact me through "Preferences->Help->Contact Support" and I will be happy to resolve any issues.
Thanks.

This is a great app! Sometimes it has trouble picking up back and search, but that's only because it will only pick up gestures to a certain degree of crapyness.

Thanks for feedback, updated OP with info.
Still using this and just bought the pro version so I.could.customize more. Now to get my button lights to stay off.
EDIT: Really like the turn screen off with the paid version. Don't have to use any of the hard buttons anymore, I don't use the search except when in stock recovery.

I'm using this app since the first versions and now I can't live without it!
I have just installed in my galaxy tab and it runs like a charm!
Five stars in the market!
Thanks!
For me, a perfect solution (after trying Button Savior and Softkeys). I came from the Incredible, and quickly learned to dislike the hardware buttons of the DroidX.
Zmooth solves the problem and really speeds up operations. Stable and configurable, too.

Working on my N7.
Thanks dever. pls add some function like "show status bar on screen off, hide status bar on screen unlock..." and add widget to control status bar show/hide. thanks.
would be awesome if it can be hidden for the lockscreen only on jb
Tried this but gives me a reboot after like a minute. Even the pro does. Maybe it conflicts with my settings and all. But great apps. Im using the gesture control, too bad cant use the hide bar thingy...
Good job! Works like a charm on Motorola RAZR xt910 ICS 4.0.4.
Please add 'exit' button when I run app and when bar is hidden there are no way to go to homescreen when I using tablet mode on Lapdock.
+1 to widget control and restore bar when screen off.
Thanks

I'm using the paid version of gesture control, and I love it. One think I'd like: replacing the Launchpad with a "recent tasks" window. Right now my launchpad consists of a single button to the task switcher, but I'm lazy and I'd like to have one action less to get there..
Working on my flytouch 7
This application is pretty similar to HideBar (http://ppareit.github.com/HideBar/), an application that has been in development for over a year. It contains an intuitive user interface to hide/show the systembar.
I find the development of customizing tools like GMD very good. But as a developer you should not use the same name. This only leads to confusion for existing users.

This was not intended and happened just because title is kind of generic. Since there is no perfect solution for ICS yet without modding, it is good that alternatives are appearing so everyone can pick solution that works best for them.

You mean wallpaper is not drawn there? But applications are taking all space?
For couple weeks already I'm using great app to hide onscreen soft keys - Auto Hide Soft Keys. I wanted to fully test it - check if it will work in real usage - and I must say it works perfectly. It takes couple days to get used to, but now I'm enjoying full 4.3'' screen, and there is no way I'm going back.
This is paid application for full functionality but you can test it for free, with just small (but irritating) disadvantage - line at the bottom (you can hide it in full version).
I'm not a developer or anything, just this app is great and I wanted to share with you guys.

Ty for the app, i still prefer Lmt pie control but this is a great app
Enviado desde mi XT890 usando Tapatalk 4
I've used LMT for some time and for me it doesn't work as good as this one. Auto hide of keys at bottom works so well on RAZR I because we've got this black thin unused bar at bottom, and it's easy to slide finger from there (and it doesn't matter what hand I'm using).
Btw I think that this black bar at bottom was originally designed to contains capacity buttons - I'd like more to have capacity buttons there, because now this bar sits at bottom and is useless and only makes Our phone bigger.
I was hoping for some time that this bar is at least touch sensitive so we could simulate touch controls there (even without showing them) but no-one came with this yet.

I'm using Ultimate Dynamic Navbar. It's almost the same but with a little more settings. I prefer it.
For anyone using ultimate nav bar, a there a manual switch to toggle the bar? I don't like having the bar disappear on me, but I don't like leaving it on all the time either.

Nope (and I 'd like that to). Maybe you could ask the developper, he seems to be reactive.

I was wrong, set the bar to not disappear after x time in the options menu, then call it and touch anywhere else to make it vanish. UDN is just perfect.
Yea I tried that, but I found ten second to be too short. What I did was install auto hide, it has a setting to swipe up and activate, and then just touch any empty space in the bar to close it. Great feature!

Is there anything I can do to let me get the phablet ui . I know paranoid android doesn't have hybrid settings yet and pacman isnt officially released so is there a way ?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
The phablet ui no longer exists. Google removed it.
There were 2 things before:
Tablet/Phablet layout of SystemUI - This changed how status bar, notification drawer and navigation buttons were laid out. Google dropped the native implementation (which PA used) for kitkat. Any future implementation of this will need to be completely custom. I haven't seen that anyone has managed this yet
Tablet layout of apps - this is different. App developers may want their app to appear differently on a tablet than on a phone so they develop the app to change at a certain dpi (generally tablets have lower dpi). This still exists. It can be triggered by dropping the dpi to something that will make your eyes bleed or by using xposed+app settings module, which allows per app control of the layout using the "screen (dp)" option
Hope this helps

I think google wanted a unified experience across device types. It kind of makes sense to me. If you can use an android phone, you can use an android tablet. When I first tried a Honeycomb tablet I didn't know wtf was going on

A lot of people have been having trouble finding out how to enable download booster and until a developer makes a mod to enable the native settings in your settings this is the only wave I know of to be able to do so.
In order to do this you will need to use a third party launcher. In this example I use Nova Launcher - launchers like Apex should work as well (as well as most decent third party launchers).
1. Go to home screen.
2. Hold down your finger on the screen till menu pops up.
3. Click on Shortcuts.
4. Click on Activities.
5. Scroll down to "Settings" and click on it which will open up a long list of things.
6. Scroll through the list till you find Download Booster. Click on it.
7. Now you will have a shortcut on your home screen that will take you to the download booster settings screen.
8. Enable download booster.
9. Enjoy
P.S. Wasn't 100% what forum to put this under as it's obviously not "development" nor did I think it was general or Q/A so I thought here was the most fitting (as it is kinda an "app" I guess?) - mods feel free to move to this to the appropriate forum if need be.

Also like the S5 from Sprint its there but thats all it is until someone can get it working. When its working it will show both download speeds and show the icon as bright not grey. Unless its working for someone else i just know its not for me same issue with s5 until someone modded it.
I understand what this does, but what is the benefits of enabling this? Does this interfere with Wifi calling?
