Hi--I have used this a long time, suddenly it has become non-functional, I suspect due to the 1.7.32 update, but not sure.
--Android 4.3 (I've avoided 4.4 to retain full functionality of the SD card...)
--MX Pro 1.7.32
--Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014
--Could not follow directions for alogcat because the nature of the problem makes MX unuseable once it crashes--there is no way to hit the "settings" button in MX Player Pro at that point.
PROBLEM
So, I bring up my file list as per normal. I click on a vid. The vid does not play. In fact, there is merely a blank screen. Eventually I'm returned to the home screen of the tablet and advised that MX Player has crashed. Sometimes, I don't even get the blank screen. It just automatically disappears and returns me to the tablet's home screen. Once that happens, the program never works again (until reinstalled or data cleared) and won't even let me into the program. Clicking its icon simply brings up a blank screen, then I get "Unfortunately, MX Player Pro has stopped..."
Troubleshooting
I have tried clearing cache, data and also reinstalling. The last two DO allow me to once again bring up the File List from "folders view." It looks normal once again. However, once I try to play vids, the same, exact result occurs, i.e., nothing actually plays and the program crashes with the screen going blank.
CLUES
a) I also have this on my phone, where it continues to work fine, but on my phone, I only have a handful of FLVs. The tablet has lots of other formats, primarily mp4. On my Note 4 phone, however, I'm running 4.4 KitKat.
b) If I access the video in a roundabout fashion, by clicking on it from a File Manager, the File Manager then offers to play it with the native vid player OR Mx Player. Then, it works fine. The exact same video. Of course, then I can't access any other parts of the MX P program, and I am no longer able to use the file list Mx Player P builds.
c) I tried playing with various settings, like hardware decoder, and what not, but it did not seem to help much.
My thought is that the version supporting Lollipop has done something that Samsung does not like in conjunction with 4.3
Any thoughts welcomed. TIA

Already there is a sticky thread in which I have already explained the procedure to collect the log immediately after crash.
Install MX Log collector app
Open It immediately after the MX Player Crash
Save the logs & Upload here
Does it crashes in all decoders?
If you are using H/W+ disable it & Check again.
long press the video & select Play using | S/W decoder
Check whether it still crashes or not.

It does not matter whether or not I use HW or SW decoding.
I upgraded the tablet to KitKat. That did not matter either.
I tried to upload the log files from MX Log here. Each time (3x now!) it gave me "invalid file" and refused to accept the upload. Oh, well.

It would not let me post links even with asterisks. I took out the http in its entirety. That didn't work either. I took out the dropbox reference as well. That did not work either. Have no clue at this point.
*Indeed, it wouldn't even let me quote your post with the partial link you referenced.

FYI, just in case it helps, not as a "zing," BS Player works fine and normally. MX continues to work (on tablet and despite recent updates) only when a file is clicked from My Files file manager. It just won't deal with its own list of videos.

@monsieurms There was an issue on Note 10.1 2014 European ROM and it might be fixed on 1.7.34
Please try latest version also try clear app data, MX Player's internal database looks like corrupted. This issue is also fixed but once corrupted database will never be recovered.

@monsieurms Would you send log again using 1.7.34? Thanks!
Given your comment on list db corruption and the fact that some vids in small directories do work, I tried copying all the vids to a new directory. That didn't work.
I cleared data again and also downloade the arm7 Neon custom codec specified in the Decoder settings. That did not help either. (It did find and install the codec.)
With the clues you gave me, I experimented a little. In particular, I noticed that some vids in small folders (small in terms of # of videos), played fine. I thought at first, as mentioned earlier in the thread, it was a difference in format. But as we've seen, all the videos play fine if accessed from File Manager--so that's not it. With the addition of your clue on database corruption, I thought perhaps the issue was folder size. I divided the one large folder into two, 50-50. That fixed it.
I would say you have still an issue here---the program chokes with a large of vids in the database. It doesn't seem to bother other programs, including the native video player and BS, and it didn't seem to bother MXp Pro until the recent wave of updates. So, I suspect something went wrong somewhere.

Hi,
I use MX on a Minix 8HPlus, to play videos on big screen. I use FTPDroid to push and delete videos on the device. Unfortunately there is no option in MX Player to refresh*automatically the folder. The result: MX keep in its memories the previous videos list and try to read files already deleted. Regularly I have errors «*impossible to read this video*» .
Moreover I’ve noted that «*random mode*» is not really random. I have around 90 videos and it seems there is around 10 videos with are played frequently…
1) Could it be possible to add an option in order to refresh automatically the folder every minutes/seconds?
2) Can you tell me if there is an option to "lock" folder that contains videos?I would like MX play videos in specific folders. Currently, MX play them all.
Thanks for your feedback.
Regards.

I'm not sure that this can be done in a sane way that doesn't also unnecessarily keep the CPU awake.. Also I believe @bleu8888 might be considering a file system event detection feature, that will have MX detect file system events, but I'm not sure if he still thinks this is feasible..
Also, should hit the manual refresh button on the video list as well.

I assume by random, you mean shuffle. Have you tried selecting all the videos in the folder first and then selecting Play on the selected videos, then choosing shuffle in the playback menu?

1)Power consumption is not a problem for me because the minix is always connected to 220v. I understand my case is specific… I’ve tried to create an action with Tasker but it not works. Manual action is required.
2) Yes, I’ve tried this method but it’s not efficient at 100%. I have to play DIFFERENT videos each month. In order to do that easily, I’ve created several folders named «*september*» «*october 2015*» «*november*» etc.. In those folders I put videos regularly. If we are in september, I would like MX play only «*september*» videos but actually is not the case.
With your method, that means each month I have to specify which folder to scan but I’m not in office every days…
3) Yes, I’ve meant «*shuffle*». sorry for my english. I’ll will try your method and give a feedback here.
Thanks!!!

I believe this should be possible with Tasker and the MX API, give it a try: https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/api

Hi,
quick feedback about your solutions. I've cannot succeed to use this api. I'm really a newbie with this kind of softaware.
I've selected only the videos I l ike to play and it seems that video are played more randomly. However it's an impression. I can't prove this with stats, facts.
I've found an app which can scan and update libraries on Android. I'll test it.
Xposed Media Scanner Optimizer v. 1.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-xposed-media-scanner-optimizer-t2942609
Edit 2: After used Media Scanner I can't see a difference. I have the impression that Android system refresh the library (I can see it in the folder in Mx interface) but MX player can't see it: I still have "unable to read this video" even if the video is still not in the folder...
It seems that MX keep in memories the last file scanned and try to read them.
For random mode, its an impression but it play the same file regurlarly...

File update: In fact, MX Player is monitoring directories to make any changes updated immediately. But directory monitoring API is broken on Android 6 and reported to Android team as an Android bug.
Shuffle: Randomness would be improved on latest nightly build (26-Jan build) since random function is changed to one with cryptographic level. Nightly build can be found on https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/translation/test-build
Lock folder: Not supported. I think there might be 3rd party apps having this feature.
Many thanks for your update.
Édit : I'm not using mx on 6.0 but 5.1 or 4.4
I'm using the beta version (Build date: 25-JAN-2016) and I cannot see improvement on random mode. I have around 120 videos (around 4min) and there is one which have been played twice at 15 min interval.
Can you tell me if there is a way to have a list of all files played, a log ? I feel that random is not really efficient. Always the same videos coming back (I have around 150 files)
Hi guys,
MX Player has been my favorite player for ages but after I've upgraded my GS5 to Android 6.0.1 it started doing something annoying. Before the update if I had a bunch of videos on a folder it would simply play one after the other. After the update the first video stops playing when it reaches the end but the next video doesn't start...instead I have to start it manually. I went to the MX Player settings, then Player and made sure the option "Back to list - return to the list after playback is completed" was unmarked. Any idea on how to fix this?

My tablet (Galaxy Tab S) just received an OTA 6.0.1 update, and now has the same issue.
@rawfa
@Vanillo

Hope you guys are openning the videoa from either samsung file manager or Gallery. It's actually not a MX Player bug. It's a side effect of content provider. Latest Samsung File Manager and Gallery uses Content provider instead of forwarding normal file paths.
For example, MX Player will receive "content://[email protected]/external/video/media/12345" instead of actual file path. So, it may not be possible to open the next video when actual path of the file. Next button doesn't work with most of the known media players because of this new implementation.
Instead of File manager, you can use MX Player directly to open videos. If you want to use in Hierarchical Tree View, Just Go to Menu > View > Folders. To show all videos without showing any folders you may use "Files".
Thanks @ktsamy.
Unfortunate answer, but it also explains the other weird issue I have been seeing, which is MX Player showing a number instead of the filename.

Things changes with newer android versions.
From android 7.0 onwards it will be default on all apps having target SDK as 24.
It's unfortunate that Nougat will no longer allow the file scheme when target SDK is set to 24. So, either they have use Target SDK as 23 or have to switch to content scheme. But, When content scheme is used the intent receiver will not aware the actual path.[emoji20]

Kodi also cannot access files. However X-plore app is able to browse through the files in the hard disk.
Hopefully we can get some support for this problem.

The error no 2 in Linux denotes that there is no such file/directory exists.
This problem is basically due to the firmware bug. In our tests, most of the file managers have failed to list the files. Some file manager may only work if you grant the exclusive access to the USB device. They will mount with their own drivers. But, the files will not be accessible for other apps. Only very few apps are working without any special permissions. We will investigate further for the possible workarounds.

MXPlayer's main competitor, VLC has figured out how to do this properly with Oreo (VLC also has Oreo's picture-in-picture). For now Mibox users (and other Android TV 8+ users?) can migrate to VLC.
I can confirm X-plore and MiXplorer both work as expected wrt external storage usage.
Hopefully MX Player can catch up to Android O (now that P is coming out)!
I found a workaround to watch the files in MX Player, not a solution but still I can watch my stuff.
I use the ES File Explorer to browse the drive and chose Mx Player as default player, so far it works

Even ES file explorer show as blank until or unless you grant the exclusive access to control the USB drive. When you give exclusive access, the drive is mounted using ES's own drivers. Not the system default one. The drive won't be visible to any apps. We will try to escalate this issue with xiaomi team.
Before update 6 version perfectly saw all hard drives with NTFS. After update 8 version writes"cannot recognize drive". This is a mockery of customers. Nothing more to buy XAOMI!
We are investigating further for a possible workaround for this firmware bug. We will try our best to get it resolved at the earliest.

Update July 6 2018:
The developers of the implementation of the Android TV for the Mi BOX today are working on a new beta and apparently they already fixed the NTFS problem as well as a HDCP 2.2 problem, and they are working on fixing a number of different bugs.
The beta testers group is now closed but, sadly even when the beta where ready the Google Certification takes 1 month minimum

It's already shared with our Private Testers. We will try our best to make it available at the earliest.
fingers crossed and let's hope fixed soon
Well, after trying to debug why Kodi was not recognizing my 5TB Seagate portable HD's for the past 8 hours I am at least happy to have found this thread and hear that Xiaomi has fixed the problem. Not very happy that we have to wait months for Google certification before we can get a fix though.
I currently have 4 MiBox devices that I use as Kodi media centres. The first two I bought in May and they came with Marshmellow and they both worked perfectly. The last two I purchased in July and they came with Oreo pre-installed, but unlike my Nvidia Shield, the Kodi app will not read the HD with all my media content which makes these devices unusable to me. So now I have to return the last 2 Miboxes to Wal-Mart and wait until an update is available for download. Very disappointed that I am not even able to revert back to the Marshmellow version that worked.
I have now learned something about AndroidTV... I thought it was the greatest thing. Now that I see Google has implemented its DRM into AndroidTV by forcing users to re-format their external HD's to secure downloaded content aka preventing you from copying your paid stuff to other devices...I won't be promoting it anymore. When reformatting your external HD it even tells you that you cannot even use it on another device meaning it's impossible to update your media library, same as the Xbox.
@Thirumalai.K - Is there an easy way to get notified when the next update will be available for everyday users?

Mibox just received an update today which seems to have fixed the external drive problem... Still hoping for PiP support from MxPlayer before the next big thing comes out.
Hello everybody.
I have a MiBox 3 with Android 8.0.0 Oreo and MX Player it's the best video player on that platform too. However, there is a little bug: the option "Move to last played file" works only 2 or 3 times, and then it moves and marks as last played always the same file. So it also breaks the other option "Mark last played file" as well. I'm not sure if that happens on smartphone version too. I can't collect the bug information on that platform, I don't have email app and I can't extract the log from the storage either. Anyway, I hope you can check it out and fix it.
Thank you very much for your time and all your work.
EDIT:
I fixed it. THERE WAS NO BUG. Seems that those functionalities required permanent internet connection. Since I only played videos on my device I turned wifi off while I used it. So that's why those functions worked at first and then didn't.
Anyway, I'm sorry I have bothered you.
Kind regards. ?
Nice to hear that this isn't a bug. Wouldn't think that wifi maybe a cause to this. There are a couple of errors on the TV version somehow :/ Like it sometimes resets my already seen videos and they are again white
