Hi guys,
MX Player has been my favorite player for ages but after I've upgraded my GS5 to Android 6.0.1 it started doing something annoying. Before the update if I had a bunch of videos on a folder it would simply play one after the other. After the update the first video stops playing when it reaches the end but the next video doesn't start...instead I have to start it manually. I went to the MX Player settings, then Player and made sure the option "Back to list - return to the list after playback is completed" was unmarked. Any idea on how to fix this?

You can't upload here, upload to any cloud storage like Google Drive, Dropbox or Box & share the link. If you are not allowed to post the url due to minimum post count, just mask it like h**://www.example.com/path or _http://www.example.com/path

Hope you guys are openning the videoa from either samsung file manager or Gallery. It's actually not a MX Player bug. It's a side effect of content provider. Latest Samsung File Manager and Gallery uses Content provider instead of forwarding normal file paths.
For example, MX Player will receive "content://[email protected]/external/video/media/12345" instead of actual file path. So, it may not be possible to open the next video when actual path of the file. Next button doesn't work with most of the known media players because of this new implementation.
Instead of File manager, you can use MX Player directly to open videos. If you want to use in Hierarchical Tree View, Just Go to Menu > View > Folders. To show all videos without showing any folders you may use "Files".
Thanks @ktsamy.
Unfortunate answer, but it also explains the other weird issue I have been seeing, which is MX Player showing a number instead of the filename.

Things changes with newer android versions.
From android 7.0 onwards it will be default on all apps having target SDK as 24.
It's unfortunate that Nougat will no longer allow the file scheme when target SDK is set to 24. So, either they have use Target SDK as 23 or have to switch to content scheme. But, When content scheme is used the intent receiver will not aware the actual path.[emoji20]

Hey guys!! First of all I just want to thank the developer for doing such an amazing work building the best available video player on andoid, and for free. You rock!
I want to know if there could be a chance to take advantage of root access for being able to browse system folders (like “data”) when manually loading subtitles. In my case, the reason I need this feature is because I’m using MX as default player with Popcorn Time and this app, in my device, only works fine if it’s cache folder is setted to internal data folder (by default). So it downloads the video and subs into that folder, but the subtitles needs to be loaded manually on MX and obviously I can’t do it.
If you think there would be any other way to solve this I’d really apreciate the info.
Greetings to all and thanks in advance for the help!! (and sorry about my english...)

Thanks anyway!!

Hey @josuearisty!!
Like I wrote in my previous post, the reason I need this is because Popcorn Time, in my device, only works with default cache folder path which is "data/data/pct.droid/cache". It stores video and subs into that folder and while the video is sent automatically to MX with an http server, subs needs to be loaded manually so, if I'm not able to browse that folder I have to download them separately which is really annoing.
Thanks anyway for the info. :good:

Tried it. When I select data folder in browser, it doesn't get into it, in fact, It doesn't do anything... :crying:
Same thing as when I try to browse into that folder while loading subs. Like if the browser doesn't have root access.

MX Player will ask root permissions only when it executes some editing operations (like delete, rename) in sdcard. It will not use it for folder selection activity.

If you add the entire root or data partition, it will impact media scanner's performance. So, It's not suitable for everyone. Only experienced users can make use of it. Better to have it as an optional.
Anyhow I will try to convey your request to the developer.

Thank you so much @ktsamy!! I really only need this function in the browser that's called when loading subtitles as, for the video, Popcorn Time uses a stream which is automatically sent to the player. But I don't know if this needs to be "activated" on media scanner too. I mention it just in case.

If you are streaming from external app, it's better to contact the application developer to use MX Player API to easily stream the subtitle together.

Hello everyone. This is my first post on XDA so please bear with me. I am using MX video player for Android on my Samsung Galaxy S3. My goal is to locate the status file of a video and extrapolate from it the watched status (Not finished/finished) and the resume point. I've tried searching for threads that may help but turned up empty handed. My ultimate goal is to use this data to update my own personal SQL video database that I've created which is synced to my xbmc. I could use Trakt (if there is support for that) but directly updating my database is somewhat preferable. If any one can help me with this I would greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I actually did not know about the export feature. I would like this process to be as automated as possible. I was thinking of using dropsync or something of the sort to sync the local files and run whatever parser I plan on writing either remotely or locally on my phone. But I may be asking for too much.
However, I did just look into the exporting which seems like it will work out but there are two hitches in my master plan.
1.) I will be streaming most of my shows externally from my home server using BubbleUPnP which uses MX player as the renderer. All of that works great. So when I checked the xml file it has the activity but the name listed for the stream is the ip address followed by some generated file name (ex a1b2c3d4.mp4) which is not the actual name of the video I am watching and makes it useless. Whether it's being changed my BubbleUPnP or MX player is something I have to figure out.
2.) The position listed for the video in the xml file is the frame number which may be a pain for me to work with.
I'd really like to get the information as is as in the attached picture. It is a screenshot of the info of a selected video displayed through MX player. In essence I'm trying to figure out where that data is being stored on my mobile.
Sorry if this is a bit confusing and I appreciate any help. Thanks
@Royekx
1. How do you play the video?. In my tests it has right name on the activity logs. Kindly note that some file managers acts as localhost & will forward the encoded uri rather than the actual one.
2. The position mentioned in xml file is "Time in milliseconds". You can easily do a calculation to convert into sec or min or Hrs whatever you want

Questions for the MX-perts:
I used to be able to stream .m3u8 video streams on my nexus 9 however, shortly after upgrading to MX Pro, I receive the "unable to play this file" error.
- Any changes to MX codecs?
- I have tried SW, HW, & HW+ settings.
- I can still play m3u8 videos with the stock video player, but it stinks without any customization.
- Lastly, I have tried the neon.1.7.32.rev1codec zip with a new MX Pro installation.
I'm still getting the "unable to play this file" error.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

Custom codecs are just customized FFmpeg libraries & will not improve anything functionally on network streaming.
probably, there might be some other issues which got fixed automatically.
I have downloaded a ts file from iptv server ( in windows) and transferred it to mi box.. unfortunately mi box video player did not play it while xmtv player can play it.. If I can make system video player can play that ts file i can use of my iptv app.. which does not work on mi box.. I am sure that's about system default codec.. and I do not know how can I change and work with media_codecs.xml in /system/etc/media_codecs.xml
I have almost found the problem and need help for resolve it..

Hi,
This is a firmware bug. MX Player has nothing to do with it. Kindly post it in the appropriate subforum.
This happened when I upgarded to nougat on my s7 edge and now occurs on my s8 plus. The first thing I noticed is that video and image titles have changed to random numbers. The second issue being that the player can no longer skip to the next video [or image] despite being in the same folder. However, these features work inside the stock samsung gallery app. The next video in the queue can be played and titles show appropriately. I do not have encryption on and I've tried a factory reset. Could this be some security measure in nougat / touchwiz or what is going on. Anyone experience this?
Can't skip to next file anymore
Hi there,
I've got exactly the same problem described by fourskim but on a Motorola Moto Play Z with Nougat
I'm not able to skip to the next video in an directory anymore.
It doesn't matter at all, which kind of data manager app i use to get a list of the files and
it doesn't matter if it is an internal directory, or a directory on SD-Card, or on a USB-Stick....
It's not very handy closing the mxplayer after every single file, searching the next file, and start the mxplayer again.
I've got the PRO Version - but it is the same with free Version....
Ne ver had this issue with MXPLAYER all the years before.
Any ideas ?
best regards, wsdweb

Ne ver had this issue with MXPLAYER all the years before.
Any ideas ?

It's because nougat changes. It no longer allows the app to pass the file path to external apps. They are forced to use content scheme.
MX Player will receive something like content://com.sample.app/something. When MX Player can't detect the directory, it can't play previous or next videos from that directory.
We are working on that. It will be fixed on upcoming MX Player v1.9.0.
