No, you must be PURE stock to take an OTA update... Stock recovery, boot image, and system partition or it will failed. How you get there is up to you.

I am guessing there were 2 versions of your phone - you have to figure out (or guess) whether you have the newer one or the older one.
a) why do you have to get this update?
b) if it were mine and I had to guess I would choose the later one but you could well brick your phone. Permanently.
c) since you're twrp'ed and rooted, why not just flash something like LineageOS which is generally only 1 month behind on security fixes.

so.....let me help u......
the 2nd one is the new firmware image with july security patch........u must keep in mind that you can sucessfully flash an ota update until and unless u have a 1.unlocked bootloader or locked bootloader 2.stock rom 3. stock kernel......
okay.....i learnt from ur post u have unlocked bootloader.......so what u have to do is to go complete stock........for this....
1.go to @lost101 thread on factory firmware images
2.do what the thread tells
3.if u follow what the thread says.....when u have a stock kernel,stock rom,and unlocked bootloader
4.now update the otas
5.after update is complete,go again to fastboot mode
6.flash twrp with fastboot command
7.now root it with supersu or magisk.....
a)here is the beautifully written instruction.......https://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/guide-fastboot-flashing-factory-t3187750
b)here is the firmware image......https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862686738
hope this helps......

@karimbo87 What is so special about this update? At 11MB it is a simple security patch, and those are not really important anyway.

+1

Thank you all, I updated it after flash stock firmware then i rooted it again

Droid Maxx 4.4 to latest

I have an unlocked rooted 4.4 and need to update to the latest os and modem drivers.
What is the best way and how do I get tethering and root back after I do it?
Pay for sunshine get boot loader unlock flash moto x ROM that is modded
I already have it unlocked.
Where can I get the latest 4.4.4 rooted and can I flash it directly over the current rooted 4.4?
Also where can I get the latest modem drivers?
If you are boot loader unlocked you are already good to go, you can root with a quick flash of a custom recovery

I have TWRP and rooted I need the latest modem drivers and os update
http://motofirmware.center/files/
This site was down for a while, but it seems to be back in a limited fashion right now.
You will need to reinstall TWRP and flash Superuser/SuperSU to regain root after flashing the files most likely. As for tethering, if you plan to stay with a Droid Maxx ROM, you can take a look at this link.

You have to flash that image with RSDLite if I recall correctly. If you leave the xml file the way it is, I believe it will wipe your TWRP and flash the stock recovery in the process, not positive as I haven't done it for a few months. You can reinstall TWRP and root afterwards.

All done, just manually flashed everything but the bootloader.
What are the exact steps?
I have an unlocked boot loader on my Droid Maxx. Currently phone is on 4.4.
Now I am interested in updating it to the latest OTA without losing root.
I understand that if I first install TWRP, I would not be able to take OTA updates. In that case I have to download the update files from the link above and flash via RSD Iite. Is that correct?
Is it not simpler for me to take all the OTA's first (and lose root in the process.) Then, I can still install TWRP and then install SuperSU?
So, yesterday I took four OTA updates and moved from 19.xx to the latest 4.4.4.
I am still rooted and with BL unlocked.
No TWRP ever installed.

Downgrade and OTA update risks on osprey

Hi everyone. There are discussion spread on multiple posts about the problems we should have on downgrading from Marshmallow OTA updated. I created this thread in a attempt to centralize this.
Sounds like the previous Moto Gs (2013, 2014) users get a bricked phone when attempting to downgrade from OTA update to factory firmware and re-update it with OTA update again... This is related to the bootloader being modified by the OTA update. Because of this the recommendation for this devices is not to update their phones using OTA update if they want to downgrade someday.
Well, there are some successful reports from osprey (Moto G 2015) users doing this. Users like @drico_649 and @yea55 successful downgraded their phones.
I'm stuck on unlocked bootloader after a failed attempt to root Marshmallow. So, I need to downgrade my OTA updated to Marshmallow.
The obvious way is flash the factory firmware with fastboot and re-update to OTA Marshmallow but this is considered risky.
What are my alternatives?
Ok, I successfully flashed the factory firmware. Working normally!
But I got a unusual message:

That is this? I did not answer this.
So you can successfully downgrade the bootloader on your device? or did you skip gpt.bin and bootloader.img
The only thing people need to skip is gpt.bin

If you flash gpt.bin, it will just fail, but it shouldn't cause anything. But for the bootloader, it will be downgraded with no problem at all.

(Solved) Problematic downgrade from Nougat to MM

Old:
Hey guys, I have SM-G920F 32 GB, which I kinda messed up. Here's the story: I was using custom 7.0 rom and decided to revert back to full stock 6.0. I flashed it with ODIN, everything was fine, until I saw storage field in settings was displaying 16 GB ? Tried smartswitch emergency recovery twice, both times freezed at 93%. Then I started searching for alternatives and I found a couple of another 6.0 multi-file roms, tried a couple of PIT-s, but still 16 GB. Any idea how can I get my other 16 GB back ? Thanks.
Edit: Flashed stock 7.0 and all my storage showed. I think the topic is completed.
New, 22.03.2017: I decided to downgrade to MM, I'm not happy with stock Nougat, but if I got only 16 GB of storage when returning MM last week, now I get red FAIL in odin while attempting to downgrade, tried a bunch of stock firmwares, different ODIN versions, everything. The error is always in the beginning, on sboot.img. Can someone help me to downgrade to MM ? Here's the info about my original MM with which I bought this phone:

I decided to edit and bump this topic, instead of creating new unnecessary one. Any help is appreciated.
flash to latest 6.0.1 with latest bootloader
i think bro you must flash to latest 6.0.1 with latest bootloader 5DQA3 instead of 4DPJG after flash by odin you must make full wipe (format +wipe cash)and i think this will solve your problem because you install nought that have newer bootloader and you downgrade to stock 6.0.1 with bootloader 4DPJG for that reason odin fail at sboot that will prevent you to downgrade old bootloader

Sorry, but my bootloader is still locked. so I can't root my device and capture the OTA file.
I hope it will be soon share by another one who don't bother Motorola warranty.
But I think the best way is to wait it's will officially purpose on your device. As you don't have to wait too much , like it was the case for 6.0.1 UPDATE for me.

No problems, thanks for replying in any case. I received the OTA myself as it happens a short time ago here in the UK.
I managed to capture the OTA via ADB from TWRP, download linked below. (EU ROM running on a GB phone with an unlocked bootloader to install Nougat reteu.) Tested by performing an adb sideload from stock recovery from 25.200-15. This is essentially the August 2017 security update for Nougat 7.0.

Was this on a retgb ROM (i.e. a ROM for a phone sold in the UK) or a reteu ROM (i.e. a ROM for a phone sold elsewhere in the EU)? My phone had a 6.0 (not 6.0.1) retgb ROM, and as far as I know, there have not been any Nougat versions for any phones on 6.0. Have you received a Nougat update for retgb?

I'm on one of the Nougat roms posted in this forum which was from a TWRP backup image. No idea where it's from to be honest. I do know that it keeps telling me that I have an update to the August security patch available but it won't install as I have modified it.
Can't install via stock recovery. When i put update from sdcard the phone get stuck
You can try install it with flashfire app(root) or modify updater-script in zip file or wait for another twrp backup. @lmulli
anybody gets this Aug OTA ?
Mine is EU retail still "up to date" with May security in Vietnam

Already tried with flashfire, no joy alas. I'll install the default recovery and see what the exact error message is. From recollection, it was saying something about the key expecting 7.0.0 but it being 6.0.1, although it is Nougat.
Already got it in Vietnam for EU retail version

I have had most success via adb sideload in stock recovery, but because it's an OTA, you also need to ensure you're at the correct patch level before trying to apply it. This installs over the initial Nougat reteu (NPH25.200-15).
I have received it yesterday in Poland
Just got that update myself this morning on my Style...
In Poland, on stock firmware, also update applied. However as mentioned, security patch level is 01-08-2017, so it doesn't cover latest Bluetooth Blueborne problems - we have still to wait for September 2017 Google Patch. Hope that Motorola will issue it soon.
I got this security update 2 days ago here in Germany. I was a little bit confused, because my bootloader is unlocked and i already rooted my phone when 7.0 came out and i thought that i can't receive any future OTA updates. Because i'm using TWRP as recovery the installation of this OTA security patch always gets me into TWRP when i try to install it. So i have to use the Bootloader -> Start to start my phone again normally. Someone has a TWRP installation file for the (german) 1572 model security patch? Thanks in advance.
OTA NPH25.201.3 is now aviable on dl.prazaar.de
Thanks to @Prazaar
hey i need help
hey
i just lost da original backup after root on moto x style XT1572
its possible if someone share backup ?
its possible to install with TWRP ?
thanks
I just get an error message when I try to install the update. I think it's because I had magisk installed previously which I think had to modify the boot.img file. I tried resetting my phone and applying the update but I still get the same error. How can I fix this? Can I just go into the bootloader and flash the original nougat boot.img or does that not exist yet? If not then can I downgrade to marshmallow and update to nougat again?

Question Do you have to unlock the bootloader again after each stock ROM update?

Hi, I have a Poco x3 pro with an old ArrowOS
i want to try an upgraded version of arrowOS or LineageOS but i have to upgrade to stock ROM first,
Will I have t unlock my phone again ?
will it work if i don't remember my old xiaomi/mi account ?
thx
No it will not lock bootloader unless you checked lock bootloader in the flash tool when you flash rom

Your bootloader is already unlocked:
You can use the TWRP/O.F to flash the firmware (recovery rom) or Miflash (choose flash_all.bat) or directly with a fastboot rom.

you're using expression I'm not sure I understand :

do you mean "to flash a Stock ROM" ?
because to me "recovery rom" can be confused with stock recovery / custom recovery
and so, I'm not sure what you want me to flash, the full stock ROM or just the stock recovery.img ?
I'm on android 11 and I want to install LineageOS 19.1 (android 12)
So I will need to install the Full stock ROM android 12 from Xiaomi : MIUI 13
Right ?
"Android 12 firmware" = Full stock ROM MIUI 13, Right ?

You can install the requested firmware if existing or the complete rom.
If only in recovery use the TWRp/O.F, firmware too, if Fastboot uses Miflash
Sometimes the firmware alone does not work, use the rom.

Only if you use Miflash.
