I have issue with calendar reminders keeping screen on. I get reminder on the lock screen( not using always on display) for a calendar event and it would go away after what ever screen timeout setting is, then it comes right back. It would repeat this forever until calendar reminder event is dismissed.
I ask another guy at work and he is getting the same with "always on" enabled .
Anybody know how to fix this? I would expect that android would honor timeout setting and put phone to sleep after 1st reminder.
Thanks
ps I'm running nougat on Verizon
Can somebody replicate this for me? Set screen timeout for 15 seconds. Set up a meeting in google calendar with starting in 7 minutes and reminder 5 minutes before meeting. Then wait for reminder on lock screen to pop up, don't touch anything and let screen timeout. See if screen will get activated again and go off after 2nd screen timeout.
If you get the same behavior, please report. I think there is something wrong with this as if you had a meeting reminder and the phone in you pocket, the phone battery will drain fast and phone gets hot of course.
Thanks
im having the same issues with my s7e. phone calls dont go allow the screen to go off either.
I have the same problem. This started only recently for me on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with AT&T. The screen will keep coming back on with the notification every 5 seconds and the battery getting drained.
Somehow it appears that this is related to my Samsung Pay account but I can't figure out how/why.

Hey everyone,
I need your help figuring out why my Touch Pro 2 will not enter sleep mode on it's own. For some reason, the back light will dim, but the screen will stay on even though I have all my settings correct in the power management settings. Has anyone experienced this before? I think the fact my phone will not sleep automatically really impacts my battery life as I can barley make it from 7AM-5PM with barely using it much. It use to work fine, but now it doesn't. I've even done a format of the device twice, but still that doesn't seem to fix the issue.
Any help or advice is appreciated.
Not sure what programs you have loaded but try cold boot, see if works. Then check as you add one program at a time.
There is also an option under settings/battery/advanced to force the device to sleep after a period of time.
@ Aspesi4
Did you ever find a solution for this? I'm having the same issue.
I'm not sure when it started as I have a habit of putting the phone to sleep manually before I holster it.
If I lock the phone, the screen will dim, and at intervals, get bright again on its own. If I leave it at the TF Home Screen, it will stay bright and never dim.
I just can't bring myself to hard reset this phone right now . . lol. Maybe when I have more time. For now, I'll keep manually putting the phone to sleep .. . . sort of a muscle memory thing anyway. I wouldn't mind fixing it though, either.
Nope, never solved this problem. Sorry, I think you're on your own on this one.
I have also been experiencing this problem. I just got my Verizon Touch Pro 2 about two weeks ago. I have only added a handful of apps (WinMo MarketPlace, NetFlix Mobile manager, AP Mobile News, WeatherBug, and Shazam. I am pretty sure it was doing this before Shazam.) I think the phone was doing this even before I installed anything on it, but not certain. This is what I noticed;(I had T-Mobile's version and it did not have this issue.) I was amazed that my new Verizon Touch Pro2 was draining its battery life much more quickly than my TMobile version. Then I figured it out; when ever I get any notice on my phone (missed call, text message, phone notification)the screen lights up. This is normal. However, what is not normal is that the screen stays on until I manually acknowledge the notification or I manually hit the sleep button. I have the power management settings to turn off the backlight if not used for 30 sec and to put the phone to sleep after 1 minute. I tested it a few times to see if it would eventually turn off, 1 minute, 3 minute, up to 15 minutes and it still stayed on. . .
htc touch pro 2 won't enter sleep mode
It's the weather program that keeps it awake ...Slider Bar -> Settings -> Data Download Weather -> Uncheck download weather automatically
htc touch pro 2 won't enter sleep mode
"It's the weather program that keeps it awake ...Slider Bar -> Settings -> Data Download Weather -> Uncheck download weather automatically"......
Agreed it is the weather program.
Specifically I turned off my location data collection..... Settings > Location > Improve Location Service (Slide to off). This worked! However out of interest I switched it back on and my backlight still sleeps OK, I just hope this problem doesn't keep randomly popping up.
I'm experiencing the same issue, suddenly...
But when I re-enable the Location option, it won't go into sleep...
Any ideas how to fix this?
bloddy idiots. HTC adds fancy animated auto-downloading weather at GPS location and break the ability to turn the phone on or answer calls! Quietly BRILLIANT!!!!!! idiots.
Is there any way to prevent turning off the screen while charging / on cradle?
I need it to see clock 24/7 while my device is charging.
Now if I connect device to the PC it goes standby (while on lock screen, when the time is displayed), even if "screen timeout" is set to never.
Thank you!

you didn't say which device you have, but if it's a focus then avoid this, you will get screen burn in
Bump...
I too am looking for this solution. Back in WM 5 and 6 we were able to set independent brightness and sleep times while on battery or while plugged in. I am on day 3 with this WP7 phone and am getting frustrated by the "simplification" of so many aspects that I was able to modify in the past.
If it's just the clock you need to see, then you might wanna try Nightclock, which is available for free in the marketplace. It shows a nice clock and has an option for preventing the screen from turning off.
While your lock screen does not require a password (pass number really) an extra menu item is added to the settings/lock&wallpaper/screen timeout drop menu... "never"
But if you require a password to unlock the screen, this "never" option disappears...
Unfortunately for me it is not just the clock.
While docked on my desk I like to keep it open on my SMS conversations to see if anything new has arrived.
While docked in my car on top of the dash, I like to keep it on maps to see if any traffic congestion might be ahead and listening to podcasts. Its rather distracting to keep watching for the screen to go dark and tap it every 5 minutes.
I'm almost positive that this can be done, but I don't know how simple it is. I would like a way to make the pattern/PIN/password not happen immediately upon screen lock. Anyone who has used an iPhone has probably seen this option...you can make it not show the PIN screen until a specific time has passed...if you unlock the screen before that timeframe, it resets the timer.
Here's why I say I'm almost positive this is possible: the last company I worked for made this happen automatically when you used their Exchange email server. I could lock my screen, and it would not ask for my PIN if I unlocked it again immediately. I couldn't specify the timeout, but it seemed like it was about 5 minutes. I used ozmail, and I know it did it though the device administrator somehow, so I'm thinking it may have to be done programatically, but I'm hoping there's an easier way.
Any ideas?
All I do is turn my screen off manually when it goes in pocket. Then 10 min later timeout/lock time has passed but any time before then, screen turns on without having locked.
But in display settings I see "screen timeout" and in security settings I see "lock phone after period of inactivity".
I can set them to differ... Maybe it's your ROM.
sent from my Android via xda
Charge roms only have display timeout. It doesn't have a separate lock timeout, and we don't have any roms not based on stock.

Set timeout to something reasonable (30 seconds or less) and enable Smart Stay.
I think I always forget about the niggles I have with the CN version of Xiaomi phones and then still buy another. Currently got the EU firmware, and still the same issue.
Common problem for me anyway is the Google Clock app. The alarm fails to go off and the widget still displays the alarm time of the missed alarm, e.g. it says Tue 6am when I do finally wake up, and not display Wed 6am as expected.
I've turned off battery optimisation, and it still fails to go off. If I test it by setting an alarm for a few mins time it works every time.
Similar to Gmail notifications and other apps. When the phone is not used for a while, notifications don't come through until the phone is used.
Any idea how I get the alarm clock to wake up and then wake me up?
Have you tried to lock the app using the recents menu? Open recents using the 3 lined or menu button and then hold the clock app, then select the padlock.
Might keep it active for you
Thanks. Will report back tomorrow if I wake up in time
On top of the memory-lock mentioned above, I'd also recommend turning on autostart for the app

Thanks. I can now see it's tried to autostart several times and been denied so set that to allow. Cheers.
Sadly I didn't wake up this morning (until my iPhone alarm went off.)
The phone just seems fast asleep until I wake it, then it starts receiving all the overnight notifications that my old phone would have just got silently and be there waiting when I look.
I will set an alarm for the morning and report back.
Thanks! I'll try the pre-installed clock app and see if that works.
The Xiaomi clock app works, so seems to be just the Google apps that fall asleep.
Mine went off as planned. Attached screenshot shows it being set off from notifications. Maybe check your notification settings?
Thanks. It goes off if I test it and set it to say 5 mins time, it seems to only be when the phone has not been used for some time, say midnight to 6am, then it seems to have gone to sleep itself. If I wake up early and check the phone, the alarm goes off, so notifications should be ok in that case?
Mine was set night before and in the screenshot you can see that I checked it after 6 and then the phone was left on charge with the screen off as it would normally be over night.
I think I may have fixed it. My alarm has gone off the last two days at least.
I turned off "sleep mode" in battery settings, hidden away under smart scenes.
