Tldr: hold the down volume + power
I just had a scare with this phone. I was watching a YouTube video and the screen goes off. It wasn't even close to dying and plugging it in didn't work. I'm pushing buttons and none of them are responding. At this point I'd pull the battery in my S5 but we don't have removable battery anymore... This phone is new and I spent more time than I expected looking this up online. Holding down volume and power, powered the phone off and then back on. I thought that was the download boot, but I guess they changed it, I don't know? I hope this helps someone out there.
Hey, the 3 button reset combination for Galaxy S8 and S8+ is:
Vol UP + Home + Bixby is the reset combo for S8
Vol Down + Home + Bixby is download mode.
Hope that helps.
I had the same thing happen yesterday. The only difference is that I was not using YouTube. Managed to restart the phone by holding the power button for about 30-60 seconds. Scared me for a minute
Mine has done that twice now. Once when texting, and once when browsing the net.

I think it should be power, not home. I also think if you hold power and volume down for about 10 seconds it will reset.

it used to wake up fine with the .9 and .12 beta firmware but not the .6 (whatever was before .9). But with the .13 release, this bug has returned
anyone else experience the same?
I haven't had it happen to mine since the update yet. Have you tried holding the power button down and pressing it repeatedly? Or holding the volume down/up (I forgot which) and the power button? Those seem to be the most common fixes.

i did try pressing the power button a few times, gave up and did a hard reset (hold it down for a few seconds, then press it again to turn it on)
just sucks... this issue went away w/ .9 and came back for me in .13

Pressing the power button for a few secs doesnt hard reset it. Sounds like all you are doing is a forced power off.

I must be searching for the wrong things. What is the button combination to force a shutdown on the Note Pro? Thanks.
eric
Press and hold:
Power only - power off
Power + vol up - recovery
Power + vol dn - download mode.
Is this what you are needing?

Those were what I was expecting. But the power+vol combinations aren't doing anything on mine. It is a Verizon LTE version, but I wouldn't think that would make a difference?
They should work . . . best way IMO is to just do a shutdown from within the OS, then while the tablet's off press and hold a vol/home combo prior to pressing and holding the power button. Once the model number splash screen appears let go of power first while holding the other two . . hold the other two for a second or so and then let go.

Ok, this is really silly, but I don't find any way from the Note Pro's OS to do a power down, other than the popup from holding the power button?
(Sorry, bit of background, this all started from a problem that my power button was only working to wake the tablet, but after that, had no effect whatsoever. After mucho playing, for no apparent reason, finally the popup menu came up, I did a restart, and it's been 100% since than. But it has left me worried how to do a shutdown if the power button isn't working. No pulling the batteries on these things.)

Correct, when booted into android OS a momentary holding of the power button will bring up the power menu one option within which will be to power off. This is typical of many android devices.
Are you sure your power button is operating normally?
I have read elsewhere of a user having issue with his power button not feeling right (less travel than anticipated without much tactile feedback when depressed indicating possible defect).
I would like to add for clarity that there is no force shutdown via hardware button, only force reboot. Holding power down for several seconds will force a full reboot. Holding it down briefly to get the power menu gets the power off option in the menu to fully turn the tablet off. If your tablet reboots after this option is chosen then something is wrong.

No, because after returning to working fine yesterday it is acting up again. Not a hardware problem - if the tablet is off, the button will always work to wake it up. But once again, it is now not being responded to when the tablet is awake - either a quick push, a long push, or in combination with the other buttons.
It seems like this is a software problem, either driver or app, since mechanically the button works every time to wake up the tablet. And, of course, I can't do a shutdown or reboot to see if that clears it, because its not responding to the power button. Can't remap the power button because no root available on the Verizon LTE model. Frustrating.
eric
I would take it back to Verizon. IMO software shouldn't interfere with a long depress forcing a reboot. That function is fundamental. This still sounds to me like a possible hardware issue where a long press is not identified as such (intermittent connection in the button).

But a short press also doesn't work when the tablet is on, but does work when the tablet is off. But then it clears up, and always works properly for awhile.
Unfortunately, unlike phones, taking out the battery isn't an alternative option...
I dunno what to tell you. Without root I don't see how any software you have installed on the tablet would have changed anything, and without the ability to get into download mode I'm not sure there's a way for you to do a factory reset that will fix the issue (if it is indeed a software one). I hope someone else chimes in that can help. My suggestion to take it in to Verizon still stands though.
Good luck!
Hello
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8013 Tablet.
Im unable to boot to download mode and go to screen with the green android to access Odin.
I press and hold the power and volume up button at the same time and its warns me to press the Volume Up button in the warning screen but after I press the volume up button, it boots to the Samsung Logo rather than the green android screen for Download Mode.
I believe the tablet hard bricked because it won't boot to the home screen.
I purchased a usb jig for my S4, S5 cell phones but unable to usb jig the GT-N8013 tablet because the charging port is a lot bigger than the usb jig for S4 cell phones.
I would know what have to or purchase in order to access download mode to restore the tablet to stock using Odin.
If the tablet is not able to restore to stock using Odin, what other methods are there?
Please let me know all the solutions to this problem. Thanks.

I'm just asking, I thought pressing power and volume down button together, then volume up button goes to download mode(odin). While pressing power and volume up together goes to recovery.By the way the volume down button is near the power button.

I pressed both buttons (volume up and volume down) with the power button but the green android is still not showing up. All it's doing is going to the Samsung logo and then Samsung logo just sits there.

Don't press both the volume button at the same. Press power and volume down(the one beside the power button) together ,then when the screen goes with a Warning!! (were it ask you to select volume up: continue or volume down: cancel(restart phone) ).Press the volume up button( the one far away from the power button. You're tablet now goes to download mode. Is that the step you do?

Ok mate ! I was trying to post out that you might be doing it wrong on pressing the combinations of buttons. Cause the way you write your post(no offense mate). Sorry mate maybe my English is poor I think I just misunderstood your posts. I'm just trying to help.Anyway goodluck mate hope you fix your tablet.
P.s. I don't work on any large corporations, but I fix my own gadgets as long as there are available resources.
Hello,
This morning I woke up and my phone said the latest update has been installed during the night (Android 7)
3 hours later out of nowhere my phone screen turned black and only the little blue light is on.
IMPOSSIBLE to turn it back on!
I have tried everything
- Power + volume down
- Power + volume up
- Power + volume up + volume down
etc..
This CANNOT be a coincidence. my phone is only 2 years only old and was working perfectly, never fell down. literally perfect.
The new update probably broke my phone. What do I do now??
Hold power + volume up + volume down + center home button for 7 seconds, your device should reboot. If it doesn't there's something wrong with your hardware
Nothing happens when I do this.
this is NOT normal. my phone was absolutely FINE. Hardware cannot just decide to do this on its own. The update has broken something this is absolutely sure.
Do this read carefully
Hold home + volume up + power you will go recovery and factory reset / format cache
if it doesn't work
Hold home + volume up + volume down + power for 8 sec release only volume down keep home + volume up + power pressed
You will end up in recovery
Try this few times
If you want to go download mode do the same just release volume up keep the rest pushed
Hello, I have a Galaxy S10 lite with black screen. I have tried to turn the recovery mode in. At the beginning this seemed impossible, as I tried "all" possible key combinations holding them for several second. Then suddenly, after more than 1h of tires, it entered in the recovery mode, but turn it off again before I was able to select any option. I tried again several combinations but I was able to success yet. Do you know how could I get the recovery mode again? any idea what is happening?

My recommendation: Take phone to authorized service center and let them try to fix it.
After one night usb connected to the laptop, but black screen at every time, I tried to enter in the recovery mode again, and it worked! no idea...
