The following are my opinions about the features of ICS which makes me very angry in every use of them. I think these are the silliest things of ICS. If they are not being used or will not be used in the official release, please ignore my comments. I also want to know if I am not alone. Some of them are already known to be disliked. Here is the list:
1) Widgets in the same list with the apps. (the widget select menu should the same but separate from the app drawer. e.g. holding and choosing add widgets.)
2) simple gray background of buttons and white text on them. Looks ancient and not elegant. (usually the options menu that shows when you press the hardware options key in most apps such as music, calendar..)
3) While typing capital letters, if number mode is selected and then returned to the letter mode, the capital mode is lost.
4) while in number mode, if space is pressed, it turns back to letter mode.
5) worse call screen
6) disgusting calculator theme (please tell me this gray design is not in the official release)
I really like the grey look. Very clean professional and unified. Always annoyed me with android that some parts are green and others orange. Was messy.

Mass storage works on my ics defy. Might be a nexus thing.
Copying files to my Xoom sucks due to no mass storage though.

So you can enable it on the Galaxy Nexus? I am not doubting or arguing, just curious. I plan on purchasing that when I get home. If not, can it only be enabled in phones with SD card support?
why do you even need mass storage?
most of the time when you connect your phone, your removing and moving files off and on your phone anyways.
so those few time you need to edit will just take 1 step extra.
plus we now can use our phone 100% while connected to pc

I agree it is not necessary, and it is not a dealbreaker when I select a phone to buy. Like I said, I was just curious. I am familiar with MTP and have no issues using it.
agree with everything except the dial pad
i do like the ICS dial pad design
I love that you can see the Widgets in the same menu. It makes it easier to see what you can actually put on your phone and be able to see exactly what it looks like before you place it on a screen. The calculator looks just like the one from eclair, and as for the number pad going to letters after hitting space, my phone has always done that no matter what rom I was on. I personally love everything about ics. Its simple, elegant, and sophisticated. The only thing I would change would be to add the toggles back to the pull down menu.

I slightly don't like how the wifi category is implemented. It's just having to do with me being more lazy and having to go through more clicks to manually configure the settings.
At first, I was clueless and couldn't find where it was at all.
Actually, I kinda agree with having a bit more storage. I would like it if they would offer phones out of the box with larger sd cards rather than upping the internal storage. It gets annoying moving files from the phone, to the car, to where ever when I can just take the micro sd out.

This is why manufacturer skins come in handy..
Though I found the most usable one is Touchwiz because it adds some pretty neat features that AOSP Android doesn't have like toggles on the notification area.
Two most annoying things about my Nexus are:
1. Inability to modify "All apps you've installed" list in Google play (Not related to ICS)
2. Inability to clear Frequently called list in ICS 4.0.x
lightesh blue and gray mix well for me, tbh
I Disagree with you, OP.
Ignore
The #1 can be fixed by installing another launcher, I use ADW EX. Moving the menu button is kind of annoying, specially since some apps still use old APIs meaning the menu button can be in two different places depending on the app.
There is only one thing i hate on ics, that when you install an app there is automiticall an shortcut on your homescreen.
Open Google play/settings/uncheck "create shortcut"

EDIT - so seems this isn't working. Sigh, thought this was the end of this particular problem. I'll keep researching and post if I find something.
Found this on the Droid 4 forum (link below). So I always had an issue with not being able use symbols, capitalize stuff, etc. when using Chrome, Naked Browser, whatever. Figured it was a software issue but finally decided to Google it and the fix is easy:
-Settings
-Language/Input
- AOSP Settings
- Language
- Uncheck 'Use System Language'
- Scroll down, uncheck English
- Scroll Down to No Language - QWERTY (seriously, says that), check
Should be good to go. Not sure if it works on stock but worth a shot. I hated having to use my on screen keyboard for passwords and crap.
Soure: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...shift-key-not-working-most-punctuation-4.html
Ah, I did always wonder why some text fields seemed to be created differently than others...
Input field racism I tell you!
Nice find, thanks
Edit - just tried it, perhaps I need to restart... I still need to hold shift in order to get special characters to appear in fields on Chrome...
Yea, still having issues myself. Seems to work in the url field but not in password fields, etc. I'll see if I can find anything else in the link or online.

Bummer, I was hoping I did something wrong, lol.
I'm trying to remember what apps were misbehaving here as well... there were a few, which probably just used webUI frontends for their app instead of making true context-aware Android fields.
I know it works in Words with Friends, text messaging and most other apps (can't remember any not working) and seems to be only in the browser. Really annoying but holding the shift key is better than before where I just opened up Swype.

Oh holding shift in the browser always worked for me... I was always able to put in the special characters holding shift, even before this mod.
Still, it's confusing why different text fields receive different treatment...
It never even occured to me to hold the shift key down, honestly. I just dealt with it. I don't really know the inner workings of android well enough to say why it doesn't work but I think it's weird that it works in mobile apps like USAA and Ebay, which I always thought just took the website and displayed it in a better format than a browser.

Hi,
First of a i'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but it is hardware keyboard related. So if it is misplaced please forgive me!
How do you disable the special characters that are typed when you quickly double press for example the letter e. example: I want to type steel, but i end up with stél.
Settings - Advanced - multipress. Two options, you pick one. The multipress interval let's you disable the feature completely.

So I was messing around a bit and it seems I don't need to hold the shift key to get a special character, just press the character key right after the shift key. I ridiculously quick press that requires two hands anyways. So maybe the browsers aren't correctly interperting the 'hold' the shift key normally sends (I know very little about coding so hopefully this makes sense) and releasing it way too soon? I think I've exhausted Google search options as of now.
I wanted to start a thread to share info about the new launcher Aviate. There's no shortage of threads on requesting invites, so let's not do that here.
If you have Aviate and are actively using it, come here and share.
Thanks!

I've been using it for a day now and I find it curiously intriguing. It's a totally fresh user experience that feels a little like Google Now to me.
Frankly, I never thought ANY launcher could pull my attention away from my custom-crafted (ok, OCD-crafted) user experience I designed using Nova Launcher. I have the same design on all of my mobile devices and it feels like part of my DNA.
Can't say yet if Aviate will be a permanent replacement for my Nova-based home, but I seem to be staying with it.
Just saw the video presentation. I'm looking foward to have a little more feedback about this app.
I liked the fact that it categarises apps and I disliked (as in google now) the fact that you must have your gps on in order to take full advantage of it. Makes a lot of sense and it's very useful but I don't like the idea of sharing my whereabouts all the time...
Been playing with it since yesterday as well on my HTC One.
Like it so far, like the idea of the activities changing during the day. Not sure how it's controled though. Today ie, I set it to Work, and when checking my phone later on, it was set on Home... don't know why.
Of course the custom side of it is quite limited, I assumed it will be better with later versions.
Haven't figured out yet how to get shortcuts to contact phone numbers implemented in Aviate.
Any ideas?
Don't have "morning" and "night time" screens. Only "home" whole day. Any solution ?
To change between Fahrenheit and Celsius, long press on the weather notification and tap the toggle to change.

The only method I have found is to add a contact widget. Not perfect, but close.
I also haven't figured out how to save a bookmark icon to my favorites section on the home screen.
Another thing I would like to do is switch between the light and dark theme automatically based on time of day.

I was able to get an invite for aviate and loaded it up and started setting it up, when I started to wonder if this was the launcher for me. I loved the idea of chameleon launcher back when it came out, how it changed your home screen based on time of day. This seems similar in many ways. But then it dawned on me, I generally do a lot of the same things on my phone no matter where I am. That being the case, would someone like me benefit from this type of launcher?
I have uninstalled and moved on.
Not being able to do direct dial shortcuts the way I want is a deal-breaker for me.
Plus, I found that I really don't need access to different apps at different times of the day. I like always knowing where they are - all the time.
More power to those that find they like Aviate. For me, it was a swing-and-a-miss.
Hi. Just found this thread. I'm loving Aviate so far and, I'm sure the customisation will improve in future releases.
I would like more customisation of the 'spaces' (manual addition/removal etc) and better theming support. Overall, I like it a lot and in sticking with it, at least, for now!

I'm not seeing anything for landscape mode, probably another reason it is only supported on phones at this time. Does anyone know how to clear a location; as I accidentally clicked a nearby location now it keeps defaulting to it...?

This morning I have noticed on my s4 and n7 the menu option for add to home screen has disappeared from both devices.
Why would this be? I loved this feature.

The option has completely gone.
Any help?
Any idea why add to home screen has disappeared?
When I press on pages I have already saved it says "app is not installed"

Google / Chrome devs acknowledge this, and say the feature will be back. Really annoying, as we factored it into a solution - i.e., build a proof of concept as a web app, and run it in fullscreen app mode on the phone and tablets. Incredibly disappointing that they handled it this way. There's also an experimental flag you can set to supposedly re-enable it (type Chrome://flags in URL bar, and scroll down till you see the option to enable it). Seems to work on ICS, but not on JB or KK (at least on my devices). Horribly disappointed.

Thanks for the help, but no success.. This was one of my most anticipated features going into release. Especially because of the fullscreen mode... Where am I left with this? Removing GEL? Will this be available again sooner rather than later?
Thanks.

Wish I knew. It was a mistake relying on a beta feature, but this was so good that we already adopted it for use in a product mockup / wireframe demo. Looked perfect on Android phones and tablets in Chrome...A real web app. Now...not so much.

This a thread to compile a list of things that we noticed were stripped from the Note 4 in the Note 5. We already know about the big things like removeable battery and SD and ir blaster... if you find something include a work around if you know of one.... I've noticed the removed continuous scroll on TouchWiz as well as hiding apps from TouchWiz launcher. They also removed the "Samsung cloud" which has been present since the Note 2 that allowed my Facebook and Dropbox photos to appear in my gallery..... please if anyone knows how to activate that feature please tell me!! Add more below
This may be a software issue (5.01 to 5.11) but I can not find the MULTI WINDOW ON/OFF switch. Not where it is on note 4

Cant figure out how to hide apps, folders, pics, turn off notifications for certain apps. Also coming from a note 3, the button to the left of the home key used to be a settings button now it only brings up open windows. I do not like this at all... need some serious help here.

Update found out how to turn notifications on certain apps off... it is now a little tiny check box at the top in applications manager instead of a big giant button at the bottom. Still need to figure out how to hide apps and photos.

Worth noting: On the Note4, you can still access the menu by holding down the recent programs soft key for a couple seconds. On the Note5, you can do it by holding down the back soft key. Holding down recents will give you easy access to split screen view.

I noticed this, as well, but I think this is an "upgrade" as the "100s" of toggles were too many before. I have also noticed that there are less entries in the menu, making it simpler looking and easier to navigate/find stuff. It doesn't always necessarily mean options were removed, but just put into a different place. I think overall, this is a good thing because it makes navigating and using the menus much easier and faster.
Among other things, I did notice in S-Note the ability to transcribe handwriting into text is gone. I noticed this even though I don't use it much, so it isn't a huge loss. I think most of the missing items on this phone are mostly not necessary and were rarely ever used, so it seems like it's basically a good thing.
I do wish they didn't remove the ability to disable the Flipboard screen on the stock launcher. Now, the only way to get rid of it even after disabling the Flipboard app is the install a 3rd party launcher. That is my only complaint, but I rarely ever use the stock launcher anyway, so it's not really a huge issue for me.
So far this phone is F***ing sick!

If you have a backup of all your apps using titanium backup or another similar app
you can get that black/white filter file from there.
Or you can even get it from the twrp flashable zipfile which you used to flashed
your rom with.
It's in the same location in the zip file as all the other camera filter files.
(it's either in system/apps or in the system/priv-apps folder.)
Once you extract the b/w filter file copy it into the same location where all the other
filter files are located in your note 5, who knows you just might luck out and it might
work for you.
The filter files don't require flashing or even installing
so there's really a good chance that it will work for you.
To play safe, be sure to fix the attributes for the b/w filter
file to match all the other filter files attributes after copying.
Good luck,
Have a great day!
I've noticed that Google Play Music no longer puts the album art on your lockscreen when you're listening to music. Frankly I'm kinda pissed about this because I really liked it.
