Camera display - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hi everyone, I scrolled down a couple threads but didn't see a question about this so I figured I'd ask.
I was wondering if there's a setting within the camera app to fill out the entire screen ? Basically to take out that big black block below? I notice when I take a picture and compare it with images I took on my S6 on this phone. The s6 photos take up the entire screen while the s8 photos don't while viewing in the gallery.

No. Can't set that up. Because of aspect ratio of screen compared to camera. Highest is 16:9 9.1Mpix. You will fill screen as view finder due to setting that allows camera app to be full screen but not actual photo...

The sensor and the screen aren't even close to the same aspect ratio, so having the viewfinder in the app fill the screen would cut off a lot of the photo you're taking. Sadly, the options are either some black space on screen, or not seeing all of what you're doing.

Nice curtains!....where did you get them??
Afraid that this doesn't happen to me, what do you mean by "taking pictures with applications?" I only use the camera application.
Smart Measure and Little Photo are applications i used so far and found same problem in both. Something tells me other applications will be no different.
Have the same problem sometimes... like in that program that makes the people fat
Open your camera app, go into settings, and turn off wide screen picture aspect ratio. Exit camera app.
Now when you use other applications does it still do this?

Tried that, tried turning features off, changing ISO etc. but all this did nothing.
Same problem here. Some other camera apps work though.

Have you tried booting in safe mode and seeing if there is any difference?

I believe it's CTRL + ALT + DEL
lol. Sorry couldn't resist! Not sure what you mean by safe mode. Do you mean recovery?

yep same here! When using the FatBooth App i get the curtains. But when using the standard photo app it's all ok. Also tried a lower resolution and the widescreen off, no difference...
Safe Mode did not help, will wait for HTC's response. Also there was one picture that looked normal when i was browsing gallery, but when i tapped on it to view it in full screen the "curtains effect" appeared. Weird...

[Q]How do I set wallpapers without croping?

I have this wallpaper that I found somewhere:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I want it to be my wallpaper just like it looks, but when I set it the phone forces me to crop it and I wind up with this:
How can I get the full image as a background so that its not zoomed in or cropped?
I was wondering the same thing ... I seems that you can't unless you put your wallpaper in the same destination the default ones are located which will make it like a stock one ....
Waiting for more experienced opinion ...
Hey man. I know what you mean it can be annoying. The reason why it asks you to crop is because of your phone's resolution or whatever, it can only show so much. What you could try is "PicSPEED Wallpapers" from the market. Download it. Then when you set a wallpaper (from your gallery) a new option to custom crop the iage will appear and you can freely manipulate what is shown as the wallapaper

no that's not correct....
I have the stock GB wallpapers and stil have to crop them when set as wallpapers...
Most wallpapers apps are crap low quality stuff...Plus tons of crap adds...
It asks you to crop because it slides the image over a little while changing home screens (for a static wallpaper). I don't believe there is a setting in the stock launcher to change that. What you generally want is a square, 800px tall and 800px wide, with the image you want in the middle. Then you enlarge the crop to the entire image, and voila.
I use "wallpaper set and save"
On market sets wallpaper without quality lose
Edit nvrmind stretches image

To save me explaining it all again, have a read of this:

Whoops! i guess i was wrong haha. They can explain it better, check the link above
Use wallpaper wizadrii from the market. I use it all the time.

[Q] Camera Issue after installing CM10. How to fix...

Hey all,
I flashed CM 10 last night and when I went to use my camera, my screen looked like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As you see.. the camera preview is messed up. Displaying the image the camera sees four times... and not even fully rendered.
I wasn't able to get an actual screenshot of this off my phone as it saves it as a normal picture so I had to use a real camera. The camera functions and takes proper pictures... but the screen so messed up it makes it difficult to take a pic. Also, if I change settings the gallery crashes.
Has anyone come across this before? If so... how do I resolve this heh.
TIA!
Any thoughts? This is driving me insane lol.
My suggestion would be clearing data on the gallery(camera is part of the gallery) to see if that helps. Also try ticking the box under developer settings that references HW overlays.

Clear your data in the gallery see of that works, n fyi don't freak out if your pictures don't pop up in the gallery after you clear gallery data, your pictures aren't gone they will pop back up after some time

Display full screen picture on AOD

Hi All,
I got my S8+ couple weeks ago and I am still try to figure everything out. After all, this is a totally different beast compare to my old Samsung Note2 (but still come with loads of bloatware...).
I was able to put my son's picture on Always On Display, but, for me, it's kind of small. Is there a way to display it with the full screen or even the half of the screen will be nice?
nope
Not worried about screen burn-in?

Look mate i have a galaxy s7 edge with AOD since release. I opt for a pretty low backlight lightening. And i never ever hade a problem with burn in. Same goes with the s8+ or normal s8. Keep the backlight on a normal level and dont be worried.

You can use apktool to decompile /recompile : you need to edit values.xml change the first '400dip' to '650dip', then drag your own images into xxxDrawable, and finally edit the smali AODposition data change all iget for mCurY to mCurX. Once recompiled, drag old apk metaINFO, SECinf and androidmanifest from the open archive into the new archive (just open apks with winzip)

Wavy pattern on screen causing photos to become blurry.

So when I was taking some photos indoors a sort of wave pattern started occurring on the display of my U11. All photos taken while this weird distortion was being displayed became blurred almost to the point of not being recognizable. The only way to get this to go away was to restart the phone...anyone know what the heck that was? Some sort of issue with the OIS?

Could you post a photo?
Which ROM/version?
Stock phone and I will check to see if I can find one of the photos in the cloud. I deleted those from the phone itself after the restart.
Found the photo, I was snaping a photo to send to a friend cause he was wondering what is an "Andy Gator" when I told him what beer I was drinking. I also noticed a similar problem the other night when I was trying to snap a photo in low light conditions. Everything started to almost vibrate on the screen blurring everything out.

It looks like blur caused by camera shake due to long exposure. Is this problem present with good light conditions?
BUMP.
Same problem here, phone started a few days ago with displaying the same "wavy" pattern. First it was like 1 in 10 times when I open the camera app, now it's more like 9 out of 10 and almost impossible to use. No matter the conditions: dark, light, shiny, close-up, portret, landscape, ...
I just made a quick gif to illustrate:
And some photo's I just took where I had to restart the camera app or switch the aspect ratio (standard 16:9, switching to 4:3 or 1:1 and back, all aspect ratio's had the annoying thing) numerous times to get atleast a decent picture, so you can see the conditions:
This first shot took me nearly 5 minutes before the camera started without that pattern
This one took about 3 restarts and two aspect ratio switches:
Probably the OIS module is malfunctioning.
