Just got the S8 and the screen has a red tint (just like korea) - Samsung Galaxy S8 Guides, News, & Discussion

I have turned red off in colour balance, I have tried a different display formats and can't get rid of it. what's worse, is that at the endge of the screen it's a red GRADIENT so even if I get it close to white, it will never be even

Is this while viewing straight on or at angle?

This is crap. Samsung will ever get their screens right?
Pics please

Mine has a very slight red/pink tint on the right hand edge as you look at it straight on. Goes away when you tint it to an angle. Something obviously isn't as it should be but it's almost like the curved edge is causing it. My S6 Edge had nothing like it though.

agreed, a couple of others on another forum I post on have the same issue, looking straight on doesn't help because of that graident around the phone.

[Q] Edge Light Bleed

After 2+ weeks, I just noticed light bleed (in total darkness) at the bottom left corner, corner of recent menu button. Anyone else getting light bleed?
You can only see it while the recent button light flashes on.
Not on a screen tough....
You talking about gap between screen and metal side (left corner)...yes at night I see light coming from there...we all got that.
Cheap ass samsung:victory::laugh:
Actually, I have it on the right side at where the curved glass meets the metal. Didn't notice it for the first week though which is weird honestly because I scrutinize my devices when I first get them. But yeah it's only a minor annoyance, not worth exchanging it.
Yes, the gap between the screen and the metal ring. Anyone Not have this issue?
I get led bleed.
When the green charging led is on and its really dark in the room. You can see the green bleeding under the black trim and onto the lcd.
Other then that i havent seen any bleeding.
I remember the white models of some of the samsungs phones had bad bleeding.

I have it all around the screen on the top and bottom and 2 sodes it looks like its glowing
I guess I'm lucky. No led bleed here but I also have the black version. Are yall using the white?

Ok thanks for reply and yes i have the white one

It was a fault with the fone i took it back to carphone warehouse and swoped for a black one rhanks for u help
Yeah ive heard quite a few people with the white one complaining of the bleed. I played with the white one in the AT&T store and saw the same thing. Thats why i went with thevplain ol' black. The white looks much better imo but i couldnt deal with the bleeding

Yh samsung told me it was a fault so i took it back and got black i do think blsck is better the back is cheap feeling and the edge looks cheap to glad i got black now
I haven't seen any bleeding from the black Verizon Edge so far, at least from the screen to the home button area. Verizon has a cheap, but very awesome and good feeling case that covers the light bleed between the framework. I never noticed it in the 3 days before I got the case though. Has anyone noticed light bleed on their black Edge's so far?

Yeah I read your post about swapping them out. I originally wanted the white because it looked cleaner, but now that I have the black and after reading all the posts I'm so glad Verizon only has the black one available. I don't blame you, I wouldn't pay that much for something I wasn't completely happy with either.

[Q] Black Sapphire versus Traditional Black

Hello, I already pre-ordered my Samsung S6 Edge (Sapphire Black) but I was just wondering what people who have the Black Sapphire think about it. All my past phones were color black (unless there wasn't my option) and I absolutely loved my iPhone 4. I just love the effect of having a black wallpaper / turned-off screen when paired with black surroundings gives off (almost like the entire front of the phone is a screen where you can't discern where the screen ends). Since the Black Sapphire changes color depending on the lighting + angle, is that sexy effect still there?
Thanks in advance to those who'll reply and share their personal experiences.
Looks black in the dark and sapphire in the light. the effect is similar to some cars that look different colors depending on the setting.
I wanted to know this as well. I ended up preordering the white simply because i didnt like the way the black looked blue when the sunlight hit it.
All the videos i've watched so far were taken indoors where there isnt much direct light, which makes the device look darker.
when outside and with sunlight directly shining on it, it's noticeably blue...which imo looks ugly since i'm not a fan of blue anything
Not trying to change your decision or anything, but wouldn't a good choice for you to be to buy the Edge instead? It seems to have that effect where there's less of a discernable edge of the screen haha.

Yeah, that's what I've been seeing as well. I wish they just went with a Pure Black color, just like the White Pearl.

Yeah, I'm still unsure whether I'll be getting the Sapphire Black or just go for the White Pearl. I've never liked white phones but the Sapphire Black looks too blue in some light which (for me) just ruins the classiness of having a black phone. If they were going for 2 unconventional colors (the green and gold version) they should have just kept the black conventional (like the white).

Remember the blue S3? The phone kind of looks like that to me, just darker. It's definitely more blue than black, at least under normal lighting in my house. Definitely a sapphire color though, and not very subtle.
That being said, I like it, but I'd prefer if it was more black, with a blue sheen, rather than being a deep blue.
I actually really like the black sapphire despite also not being a fan of blue normally. When the light hits it it looks like a nice dark slate blue, and it doesn't feel overly blue to me. The front of the phone is also a bit more shimmery in that regard.
I decided not to change my pre-order for the Black Sapphire colored Edge. Been playing around with my friends' S4s and S5s and couldn't bring myself to like having a white phone.
To be honest I like blue as a color. I just can't deny how sexy having a pure black phone paired with a dark / black wallpaper looks. Well, maybe the changing colors might amuse me for a while... especially if some people I know gets tricked into thinking I bought 2 phones: a black and blue one

[Q] Display Issue, Viewing Angle, Normal?

Hi Everyone,
I recently bought a Oneplus one and am a bit disappointed with the display. Besides having the yellow part at the bottom, when I look a little at it at an angle I see the screen tint to whitish almost blue and this effect increases as my eyes level to the surface, this is best seen by looking from the right corner of the screen with a black background. Is this normal? I only need my head to be slightly away from the screen to notice it. Also I notice light bleed from the top.
Let me know if this is just an effect of the LCD display and if its normal. I've used amoled displays before this.
Regards,
Bobbie

I don't have this issue on mine. Honestly though, why is it such an issue? The scenario you're describing would just never happen in the normal use of the phone, nobody looks at their phone on such an angle when using it.

Hi Heisenberg,
Thanks for the quick reply. I do notice it during normal use otherwise it wouldn't be a problem. The phone is on the left side of my computer now and as i'm looking at it I notice the whitish blue tint while using a black background.

Fair enough. Dunno what to say though, I have two of these and neither of them have a tint when viewed on any angles. I initially thought my screen protector might be why but that can't be the case because one of them doesn't have a protector on it.

Mine does have a screen protector on it that was already on it when I received it, could it cause some kind of tinting? I only see it from an angle not if i just look down from the top to the bottom of the phone, then it looks perfect.

It's possible. Those films that come already on the phone aren't actually screen protectors as such, well they're not meant to be used for an extended period of time anyway, they're really just to give light protection during the shipping process. I'd recommend you remove that one and get yourself a good tempered glass protector. The Nillkin 9H is exceptional and it's quite cheap too (less than $10).

S8 plus red screen issue India

Hi all, the aim of this thread is to know how widespread the "RED SCREEN/TINT" issue is India & whether the software update fixes it.
The software update doesn't fix it right off the bat. You get additional control over how you want to tune the RGB and edges of the screen. You need to find the right balance which works for you.
My S8+ doesn't have a red tint over the whole screen but it had slight tint over the edges. However, by tuning my edges, I was able to remove it.
You need to slide the RGB bars to find what works best for you.
I know this is kinda murky solution when we are paying top bucks for a flagship but the nature of this huge screen is such that it is susceptible to some degree of tints when looking at different angles.
IMO, the pros outweigh the cons. If you're still not happy with the display, you can return it and get a new one. But be prepared to face the same issue again!

Lucky you. I had some red tint on both the edges but the new slider after the update fixed it!
In my case, there is a slight tint over the edges and on the screen when viewed at different angles. I have filed a replacement and ill get it by monday.

This is what worked for me.
Post downloading the OTA for the red tint issue, i moved the RED slider to 50% and for Screen Edge Colour Balance, i turned the slider all the way to the extreme right where it says Cool.
That pretty much fixed the red tint issue for me across the edges. I didn't have a red tint except on the edges to begin with. Even with the Blue Light Filter set to ON, i no longer have a red tint issue along the edges.

Question Reddish/pinkish screen on Galaxy S22 Ultra when tilted

I bought a Galaxy S22 Ultra and noticed that when I tilt it from the bottom, if there is a white image, the screen tends to be reddish/pinkish.
I am familiar with amoled screens and I know that if you tilt the phone from top to bottom it tends to green, but from bottom to top I've never seen a screen that turned red. It is very annoying.
I have compared it with the Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S21+ of friends but I have not noticed this problem.
I went to a shop today and compared it to the exposed Galaxy S22 Ultra and it had the same problem.
I am undecided whether to replace it, I don't want to be without a phone for 1 week, Has anyone else noticed similar problems?
I leave you some images for verification with your phone: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/112UppJ-NFURNfnRR4iMA5qGd4-3AXrZd
P.S. I know that when tilted from top to bottom a green tint is shown (as in this photo): https://drive.google.com/file/d/11J8BYws_zmsqgGd4zGTTIIJTaiWN6f-g/view?usp=drivesdk
I know that from this angle it is normal. I mean if it is tilted backwards, that is, from the bottom to up
Yes! I saw a green tint when going from top to bottom but not any pinkish tint.

On the contrary? if you tilt it from the bottom up, don't you see a pink tint? Which phone do you have?
S22 ultra SM-S908E, no pink tint from any angle. I even increased brightness to max to see it better. It stays fairly white from left to right, right to left and bottom to top. Green tint is visible from top to bottom though..
So the green tint when viewing from top to bottom is normal? I'm not very familiar with Amoled screen. I hope mine is not faulty. I will go to Best Buy tomorrow to check on their display units.
Green tint is visible from top to bottom on my t-mobile SM980U device but I only saw it when I looked for it after reading about it here. I doubt I will again after this. Absolutely no pink tint though.
