I tweeted @SamsungMobileUS asking whether the Dev edition was going to be available in days, weeks or months?
Answer: "We don't have timing just yet, but you can stay updated at http://bit.ly/MkDIUa "
Damn you Samsung!! <shakes fists at the sky>
Please tweet @SamsungMobileUS with hashtag #galaxys3dev and ask "are we there yet?"
I don't support this phone.
Samsung should have told Verizon that if they wanted to lock down their device they wouldn't get the device at all.
Apple did this to an extreme with the iPhone, and I'd say Samsung is a powerful enough company to do so as well.
Too bad that's against their business interests though. People are still going to buy the developer device... Well, consumers will, just probably not developers.

Technically, ROMs/Kernels cooked for locked S3 should also install fine on the dev edition. Right? I mean all that would happen is whatever bypass is built into custom ROMs for locked/signed bootloader would bypass something that doesn't exist on the Dev edition.

I thought I would answer some of the more common questions I've been receiving.
Is that the AT&T-branded Galaxy S4?
Yes. It wouldn't be very interesting otherwise.
Does this allow you to run custom kernels and recoveries?
Yes.
When will this be released?
I will not be publishing anything at least until the Verizon-branded Galaxy S4 begins shipping (late May).
Does that mean it will work on the Verizon model?
It is highly likely this will also work on the Verizon model, but since I don't have one I'm unable to test at this time.
Will bothering me result in an early release?
No.
Is this the result of a leak?
No. I would not associate myself with the publication of confidential materials that are proprietary to these companies, regardless of the fact that I disagree with their policies on device openness. Plus, where's the fun in that?
What about the bounty?
Feel free to wait until I publish and decide for yourself if it meets your criteria. As always, I prefer any donations go to a reputable charity organization instead of me, but I won't refuse if you insist on throwing money at my PayPal (http://goo.gl/zBGb0).
Is it safe to install OTA updates?
If you are interested in taking advantage of this release, it is recommended that you avoid installing OTA updates until it is published. Please be aware that refraining from installing updates may prevent you from receiving security and stability fixes for your device, and consider whether this is a risk you are willing to accept.
What's your favorite color?

Thanks from all the current and future S4 owners, of which I am not one. But I know a gift horse when I see one.
Thanks man. This is great news!
I'm just curious as to how many devices this has been tested on?

That's extremely good news. Thank you very much for your work! Just picked up my AT&T GS4 today...
I of course respect your wishes to release/share (or not) at your own schedule, it is your prerogative; but may I ask, why the wait for the Verizon model? To be clear, I'm not in any hurry, I'm just curious...
Also, any technical updates on how you made this possible? (other than obviously a good knowledge of ARM and reverse engineering)
Thank you so much!! I will be getting an S4 today because of this.
BLUE IS MY FAVORITE TOO!!
Seriously though, GREAT JOB!! :highfive:
Wow 10/10. Great job.

And to further elaborate, suppose Verizon had the same method of locking the bootloader. If he released this now, Verizon would have enough time to change up their locked bootloader which would be even more difficult to crack.
So in conclusion, he's keeping his method to himself so in case Verizon does have the same locked bootloader, we can unlock both AT&T and Verizon variants with one leak. Profit.
Why throw our Verizon S4 brothers off the bus? Lol.... Hopefully that answers it

Because if he releases the exploit or details now, Verizon can use that information to fix their implementation. It's not guaranteed this approach will work on the Verizon device, but it's FAR less likely if he publishes info on the exploit now. Even this announcement could bode ill for the hopes of Verizon customers - you can guarantee it is going to trigger another round of security review at Samsung and Verizon.
As a result, you're not going to see any detail until then.
Nicely done! :good:
Thank you!
You should all pretty much be bowing down before the great pwnerator and/or throwing cash at the screen right now.
This is Mr. Rosenberg's PayPal. His time is valuable.
That's it for me. You AT&T users have fun.
e: One more thing. Bloggers and/or journalists reading this, this unlock is not the work of "the devs", "XDA", "the brilliant hackers over at XDA", etc. Credit the individual. Thanks.

As much as I trust Dan, admire his work, and consider him a friend (As far as you can someone who you have have only "met" online). General rule for any dev work (Including mine), wait until the work is published before donating.
k0nane is here? Man i don't even have a S4 and i'm all wet :silly:

Not too sure. I've had the edge since it first came out. Disappointing for sure
I point you to this thread.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3055791
You bought a limited production non advertised phone and now complaining that there isn't any support.... Should of bought a nexus or note 4 if you wanted support.
As far as Sacs Roms, you should PM him and asked.
Haha I was looking on sprint buyback list and the edge isn't even listed. Guess if they don't even want it back then not too many people bought it

The problem is that a lot of the people that used to do development left XDA a while back because of bullcrap that can go on sometimes on the site that makes it pointless to want to do anything. Donations are nowhere what people think they are on things not that that matyers to everyone but it takes a LOT of time. Sometimes people did them for fun or shared thwir own rom they made only to have people just complain or nitpick about things wanting it this way or that way. For instance i got Kanged a while back on some bull**** that wasnt true just because I refused to join some stupid team projects and wanted to be on my own so they teamed up on me claiming i was Kanging their crap which was bull. Anyone testing my ROMs knew i had thimgs fixed before them and they were takimg my fixes. It got to the point where i had to watermark but even then it didnt matter at that point its not worth it.....so dumb. Thats a just for instance...

I know exactly where you're coming from. .
I don't intend to support any development here anymore (any shape or form), but possibly just release in General section as repository only. Basically just the DL link and kernel source.

Hi. Everybody. I decided to create this petition because, even if Note 3 is a 3 years old device, I appreciate it very much. I think that many of you think this like me (and we are a lot of perople), so I create this. Please sign it!
https://www.change.org/p/samsung-samsung-please-include-note-3-for-android-marshmallow-update
I forgot to ask a thing before. If you go on your country's forum or something, please share there, so even people who don't follow xda can subscribe the petition.
Make Samsung know how we appreciate this amazing device all together!!
Done.
Let it be 100% cosmetically like Lollipop, i dont care, all we need is a Marshmallow base, so we can have fun with it.
Done.
done. Having gone back to the 3 after the 7 disaster it would be nice to see the 3 get the later OS release and updates. Still a great device and runs brilliantly for me
done
Shame on you samsung s5 already got marshmallow update but we didn't, the petition is signed.
Do these petitions have any real effect? I wouldn't mind supporting one if Samsung at least considers it. But if it's going to fall on their deaf ears, then there's no point in this.
Done, I really appreciate this idea.
Done, although I don't know what actual good will come of it. :-/

What other 2013 device has 3GB RAM? it took until 2015 for devices with similar specs as the Note 3. I cant see Samsung spending on any projects like this especially post note7 recall.
Done
Done
Done Sir, well good luck to us. And I hope Samsung finally realized that Note 3 is a beast piece of hardware.
Done!!! This is a good opportunity for Samsung to keep their customers loyal!!
Manual camera support as well
Keep it coming
Got 26 people signed in this petition,. Keep it sharing guys. On facebook groups, Hangouts and other social media platforms. :fingers-crossed:
Done.
To be honest, I don't care if samsung provide official update to MM since we already have wonderfull Marshmallow custom ROM ported by our great developers here in this forum.
But if samsung provide android 7 Nougat update, now that's a whole different story...
Done.
Signed petition.
Regards
The problem is their are multiple petitions for MM all consisting of a relatively small number .Might be a different story if those where a combined petition .
Hello, I'm new to this community, nice to meet all. I'm 16 years old and I'm an aspiring artist:good:, I also know a decent chunk about tech:laugh:.
Introductions aside, Samsung Galaxy tab 4 SM-T231 owners, since Samsung and the other companies didn't make a lollipop update for SM-T231, lets come together in this thread to volunteer for beta testing if ever a Lollipop ROM is released.
I created this thread in order to gather people to help if a developer we're to try and make a full Lollipop ROM, those said developers can come here and post information about their custom ROM for us to test and give feedback.
If we can get enough demand, enough interest and people, heck even better, someone offering a bounty for a working ROM, someone out there would respond and breathe new life on this old device of ours.
Anyway I suppose this is a good challenge for our devs out there that needs to get their creative gears conditioned and running. (Though for some this may be an exercise in futility)
Oh well, I can't think of anything to say at this point. Goodluck to us, oh yeah I'm willing to be a tester too.
nah
Lollipop would be so Nice tbh. If only those Tabs wouldnt have Marvell SoC...
