My Cracked S7 Edge Water Test. - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

In the past month or so my S7 Edge-F has accumulated about 12 hairline cracks and 6 spider web cracks, but the display and digitizer work fine, the only thing not functioning is the fingerprint sensor, but I usually face-recognition so the broken fingerprint sensor doesn't really bother me. Anyways, I wanted to know if my S7 Edge was still water resistant, because if not, I would need to reseal it and replace the glass (aka, a pain in the ...).
----
I put my S7 Edge in my bathtub, filled in up to where it was about 1/2 a meter (2 feet), I also warmed the water up a little above room-temp. I put my phone in and tilted it to get air stuck in the ports out. I also had CPU-Z running for monitoring. I left the phone in the water for 30 minutes (I recorded it with my 4k camera so I could go back to check for bubbles. my results:
-No bubbles
-No Sensor problems
-No damage
(I also went swimming with the phone for about an hour, recording underwater videos and didn't find anything wrong with the phone afterwards.)
I think it's safe to say, it's still water resistant.
I just felt I should share this since most people worry about this when the crack their water-resistant device.
I Recommend you put a screen protector over the cracked glass, and if the back is cracked use a skin.

I wouldn't feel comfortable intentionally putting my device anywhere near a water source lol

sadly my back panel cracked and i got a replacement from china but when i push air into any of the ports i feel it coming out of the other so im not sure if its safe for me to dunk it in water

Broken glass in front of lens

so i dropped my fuze the other day taking it out of the case and when it hit the ground the cover and battery came off and out. i put it back together to inspect the damage and didnt see anything wrong (i was outside at night in a parking lot). when i got back to my house i looked over the phone again in the light and noticed that it looked like my camera lens was all cracked. it turns out that only the square piece of glass in front of the camera was broken and i peeled it off and the camera seems to work fine without it. does anyone know if this affects the lens at all by being exposed and where i might be able to get another square glass cover??? the original one seemed to be glued down so i dont see why i couldnt glue another thin piece of glass overtop of it???
you can probably check out how thick the glass was and then cut off a small piece and glue it down with a normal glue just so it sticks... it's mostly to protect the lens,
yea it has to be 1 mm at most its really small. i'll take it to a camera shop and see if they have anything i can use to fit in where it was. thanks
i dropped my first fuze from a short distance and that little piece of glass broke around the sides. i think its just a noise filter. the camera still worked but there was alot of extra noise which almost seemed to pulse on the image. im taking better care of my replacement fuze.
did att give you a new replacement for free? i think i am just going to hold on to this one and flash it a few times until the fortress comes out sometime at the end of the summer.

Craked screen

Please be advised. I dropped my phone from the side of my bed. It went face down on semi hard wood. The front screen is cracked. No joke. I have had the phone for 2 weeks only. I saw all the youtube drop tests, and I can assure you that they were very lucky to have their phone screen surviving from pocket and shoulder drop. Get a very good case and screen protector. Do not use the phone without it. Just trust me, from the side of my bed (one food and 3/4 high). I may have been unlucky, but there will be other circumstance of unluckiness. Just get a case, a very good one and a very good screen protector. They can replace the screen for 350 plus tx, but you loose the water resistance after automatically.
This situation sounds exactly similar to my Galaxy Note 4 as well.. I left it on my bed and not sure how it landed when it fell off (1-2ft high) off the bed. Cracked through my glass screen protector and left a small hole on my screen. It looks like someone took a screwdriver and stab my phone really hard. I didn't have anything hard particular on the floor and my only assumption it probably landed on a powerbrick.

LG V10 Glass Sensitivity

Ok, So Hey guys that know me from years past. Figured I'd pass something on.
The LG V10 Glass seems to be very acceptable to low level shock. One of the things I reviewed constantly before buying was how durable the phone was. Throwing it and all, with the glass being unharmed.
Well I have dropped my V10 in the rain, and left little scuff marks on the plastic and even chips on the camera ring, but never any damage to the screen. Not even a scratch.
BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.
The other night I was sitting in a chair on my porch and the phone fell out of my pocket. So what is that?? Maybe a 1/2 foot drop to the ground. and it cracked my screen with spider web cracks going in 4 directions from the crack.
I am really OCD about damage to a phone, and have in 8 yrs, never cracked a screen. Usually I have some sort of case, but as the V10 was supposed to not need one, and because of the fingerprint scanner issue, I never got one. Now i'm deciding rather to fix the screen or just get tempered glass and deal with the crack since the phone still functions perfectly.
What do you guys think?
Strange that I read everyone say they drop their phones because I dropped mines multiple times on multiple surfaces. I wear suits at work and put my phone in the chest pocket area and sometimes I miss and the phone never broke. No case no screen protector no nothing. You don't have insurance?
The variables of the angle of the drop and the point of impact make being OCD about screen damage tiresome.
Put ballistic glass on your phones and forget about it ...
It's cheap insurance.

Cracked S7 edge water test.

So I have a hairline crack in the bottom right of my S7 Edge, and was wondering if it's still water resistant. So I went and took a nice hour long, hot and steamy shower. After the phone was dunked in water, exposed to steam, and getting poured on, I don't see one sign of damage so far, everything works fine and I don't notice anything near the crack. DO NOT TRY THIS YOURSELF, IM JUST SHARING MY RESULTS.
I really don't think many would be daft enough to try this ?

Yea, I got an LG G6, so I thought "nothing to loose, right?" ?
I have back glass cracked like spider web and I have snapped a lot of photos under water and my s7 edge is working fine, I wasn't worried for water going inside my phone because under cracked glass is a thin plastic layer that keeps device isolated from water. I'm not saying that you are 100% safe to put you phone under water with cracked glass, I'm just sharing my experience

Well this would answer my question that I have been looking for since I got a hairline crack on my s7 edge. I haven't dunked it in water and still not going to but at least ill know it will be safe from a drink spill or a splash.

Anyone get their Pixel 2 wet often ?

Now that the Pixel 2 is water resistant, does anyone get their phone wet or in water often ? I recently took mine hiking which was perfect for the camera, and after the trip it was dusty and oily from use. I took the phone and turned it off and submerged it in warm water and washed it for a few minutes and let it dry. Now it is clean and good to go no problems. I generally don't get my phone wet often, but I'll probably start washing it after trips like these.
Just be careful you don't make the water too warm, and absolutely don't use soap. This sort of waterproofing takes advantage of surface tension, and either of those two things can defeat it and let water seep in.

I only have one thing to say. You're either braver or crazier than i am. I haven't yet figured out which one it is though.
Just when I turn it on ? But seriously, I feel like I can help you out here. Since I'm an auto detailer for a living I can tell you that water does not clean oil at all. And it's highly unadvisable to get your pixel that wet on purpose. I recommend a high quality microfiber towel and a spritz or two of rinceless wash on the towel. I use Carpro EcH2O but any rinceless wash will do. Nice thing about Carpro EcH2O is that there is ceramic coating properties within it so you're adding a bit of ceramic protection to the screen and enclosure of the phone. This not only adds a protective barrier but also keeps it cleaner and easier to clean in the even it does get dirty. That product must be diluted and will last you a lifetime and you can use it on your car as well. But in a pinch I would use Isopropanol Alcohol on a microfiber and that will do just as good of a job cleaning it up without getting the phone wet. Hope this helps you.
I saw a YouTube video of a guy who took his pixel 2 into the pool and even though it survived, the speaker output was drastically reduced, even after it dried. I wouldn't intentionally submerge any device. The water proofing is for emergency only.
I wash my Pixel 2 phone occasionally. I had an S7 Edge that I washed all the time and used for underwater photography. I've only submerged my Pixel 2 for photos once or twice, and so far so good.
One warning though, your USB cable isn't waterproof. I toasted a couple USB cords with a wet USB port before I realized what was going on. Consider covering up the USB port when you're getting your phone wet, and make sure it's dry before you charge it.
Almost every time both phones got submerged, the speaker was weird for a few hours. Once it dried out it was fine.
But you know, YMMV.

Oh also, remember that fast moving water can push it's way into the waterproofing a lot faster than water pressure alone. I always try to avoid water coming straight out of the faucet into a hole or seam.
