I've been using Android wear on my G Watch R since day one.
It has worked with every phone I've had.
It 'kinda' works with the P8 Max..
Basically there is a HUGE delay when receiving Txt msgs and Gmail emails.. And I have switched to the default sms app and the same thing happens.
Sometimes, if I am playing with the phone, they come through immediately, but most of the time I hear the notification sound on the phone, look at my watch.. and nothing. It just doesn't appear, until I turn the phone on, and play around a bit, which totally ruins it..
Yes, I have turned off the lock screen, made Android Wear a protected app that doesn't turn off, and Gmail, and hangouts.. It's still not working!
I love LOVE the phone, but this issue could be a real deal breaker..
I have seen online that EMUI and Huawei have issues with Wear, although many feel these issues have been fixed!? but I was wondering if I was doing something wrong ?
Does anyone have a Wear watch + P8Max and does it work perfectly for you ?
Rooted or Not?
Not.
But if it helps, I'll root..
What can root do for this issue?

I guess by freezing/removing Phone Manager, you will get instant notification as it is Phone Manager which is 'preventing' communication to save power.
PS: Even I have not rooted and thinking of ditching my Moto360 after exactly 1 year as I love P8max more and missing my conventional watch.
im using it along with LG Urbane and dont find any issues and I havent rooted
Wow..
Really?
That makes me happy and sad ... ;-p
No delay when receiving texts?
Do you use default apps or gmail + hangouts ?
Thanks.
using non-rooted P8max DAV-703L with moto360 and latest version of android wear... not much issues, occasional disconnects and delays, but generally working ok.... tested with whatsapp, hangouts, phone call, calendar...
set android wear as a protected app in phone manager and viola!
Work perfectly with my gear S2 classic

Well, one week till CES where Huawei will announce the US version. Getting excited! But I was wondering. Anyone have buyers remorse at this point? Do you like the Mate 8 more or less as time goes on?
No buyer's remorse here.. I'm quite sure if a N/A version is released there will an accompanying rom as well..

Thanks. I'm trying to decide whether to get the Mate 8 (Great specs and build), Blu Pure XL (very good specs, cheap, its been rooted and has TWRP - also some promise for developer support) or stay pat with my Note Edge (I do like the edge features and it's screen is basically as wide as the Mate 8, just not as tall. also Marshmallow arrives in the next few months hopefully). Decisions decisions....

Yeah, it all comes down to how much do you want to spend.. I bought the 128GB version, I had the Mate 7 so I knew what to expect..
If I could only get notifications working properly then I would be 100% happy.

Been there done that, been through every option and nothing helps. Reading around, this seems to be a common bug with emui, and the only way around this is to disable phone manager or make the apps system apps. Which can't be done without root. So, right now I am playing a waiting game.

altaz,
Similar problems have been noted in some of the other threads. Is it possible that the problem you are experiencing isn't due to actual notification issues, but that the apps you are expecting notifications from are not currently being permitted to run in the background when the phone's screen is turned off?
I'm not sure which apps you are having trouble with, but for example, with Whatsapp(?). If this sounds like it might be the issue for you (and you haven't already looked into this), try going into Settings-->Advanced settings-->Battery manager-->Protected apps and allow those apps that should be receiving notifications.
As to the original question of the thread, no remorse. So far so good. A pretty sleek, powerful phone. Just need to get it rooted.
Might be the interactions between marshmelow & emui, if that is the case a fix should only be imenent.
Nevertheless, try this ---> battery manager itself; click on the setting icon up left of the screen, you need to switch on (Keep mobile data on when sleeping).
Of course that is in congunction with the rest of the settings/permissions.
Good luck,
No buyers remorse here. Having recently had a P8Max I knew what to expect with regards to setting up notifications and permissions so they work, and for me currently no particular problems. The camera is not as good as the best of 2015, or even 2014, but I had realistic expectations there and the camera is performing well enough for me in light of the other benefits.

Seems this notification problem is becoming more annoying, i have turned on everything possible (permissions, auto start, notifications, ignore optimizations). I even found another layer of settings in the apps settings that allow a deeper level of changes (settings > Apps > Advanced) . And still i can't get emails to notify when the phone is in standby. This is even after i have left the email application on, and turned the turned the phone off via the power button. i've spent a number of hours sending myself emails in various conditions and while might get the notifications sometimes, others i may not so this doesn't help narrow down the cause.
I have now realized that it's not just emails that are affected, i don't get auto notifications in Google Photos or Rewards, and some apps which run on schedule. The google apps only update when i open the app. which is useless for apps like Rewards, since the surveys expire after 24 hours, so go knows how many i have missed since i moved this this phone. I've never had this type of problem with any other android phone, and i;ve had a fair number of them over the years. At this point, since i am not able to return the phone i am thinking that i might have to do a factory reset, and hope for the best.

altaz, no need mine works now. just follow my previous post in this thread.
Just got mine today. No remorse here, and hey there might be a rom to flash once the US variant comes out. I love this phone.
I'll have buyers remorse if one of these other A72 devices gets the same battery life and camera for <$400
I love it coming from note 5. No regrets. Glad i didnt wait for mobile congress as i was very dissapointed with both lg and samsung. Love the mate 8
i agree, while LG had some nifty ideas regarding that modularity, all in all im not much impressed with either the G5 or S7 line... happy camper with my mate 8 indeed
This is probably the first phone I ever got that I didn't get buyers remorse hours after buying it. I've come from a S5, S4 and original Note before.
hours after buying? only phone? well that sounds like someone didnt do proper research first

Hello.
I am from germany. My Mate 8 is a chinese one with original B162 Rom. Notifications don`t work for me.
What i did:
data in sleep mode enabled
apps are allowed to stay active at sleep
notification in priority mode
rooted device
made WhatsApp and Android Wear (for my huawei watch) to system apps with Titanium Backup (i bought it before ...)
freeze phone manager
I dont`t get my notifications all the time. Very bad are notifications for my huawei watch. My phone rings (WhatsApp), but my watch doenst. Then i start the Android Wear app and the notifications are pushed to my watch.
The phone is ok. I am coming from Samsung S6 Edge+. But the notifications MUST come always.
What else can i try?
(sorry for my bad english)
I had only notification issues with whatsapp - however the situation has improved greatly after I installed the app Push Notification fixer ( no root version)
Now I'd say missed notifications is very very much lessen, probably around 10+ % only
All my other apps eg Maildroid ( only mail app I used), Friendcaster, some newsfeed app, XDA etc no notification problems at all
Mine is China set on B156 firmware ( non rooted)
hi, i just bought an international Mate 8 and i try to use it with a Lg watch Urbane, the problem that im facing is that sometimes i dont get notifications from Whatsapp from my phone on my watch, sometimes it works and sometimes not ( havent figured out a pattern). this problem is only for whatsapp, all other apps receive notifications on watch.
does someone else have a problem with android wear devices and mate 8 in notification area? or a solution to my problem?
do u receive the whatsapp notifications on your phone? or does it have the same issue as ur watch?
Youll find itll work when the screen is on or has not long gone to sleep. Itll stop when it goes into deep sleep. Youll need to hunt the battery area to protect some apps from being turned off

OP any updates about fixing this problem?
I generally was able to fix it by rooting, setting up doze settings to allow the phone to wake up every 15 minutes, and setting Android Wear app to be able to run with screen off, and protected from battery savings.
i fixed it by restoring the phone to factory default and reinstalling, now all works perfect, probably it was a faulty installation of something before.
i have this problem again, so the notifications are received on the phone but i don't receive them on the watch. sometimes i receive them even 20 minutes later or i never receive them. and there are also moments when the notifications work fine... do any of you use mate 8 with a watch? does it work ok?
I used Mate 8 with a watch and had all the problems you did. The issue is Doze and the way the Mate 8 makes it work. No solution has been found, and I can't work on one anymore, because my phone's bricked, unfortunately.

i hove they find a solution soon, this is the only problem that makes me unhappy with the phone.
i think there is some problem with the EMUI, which could be fixed by Huawei after the update(if there is one)
Hello, I use the Moto 360. First I had the same Problem like you. All Apps are protected in the Accu Area. Notifications are not pushed to my Moto or pushed late.
I have changed this: Settings-> Apps -> Erweitert -> Optimierungen Ignorieren (last point in list) -> search for Android Wear or your App and set it to ignore. (sorry for German / English mixture but i use it in German)
Since then I receive on my Moto Messages from Nine (Mailclient), Aquamail, WhatsApp and Facebook.
Only when the Notification on phone is missing (sometimes) then there is no Push as well on my moto

Hi, I had the same problem with my NXT-L09, but i also installed Feel the Wear and WhatsApp notifications are working now on mi MOTO 360. It's a strange behavior, because in the phone, notifications are working well and it's difficult to determine if the main reason is related to EMUI Issues.
I'll Keep testing, if i have other solution i'll tell.
Regards,
Trk
Is somebody get an idea ? I've got the same problem and it's really annoying !
I bought this device knowing there would be potential notification issues, but I had seen mixed reports that the L29 model may not suffer from them. It took about a day, but they finally started showing up. My main issue is email. I have tried stock Gmail, Bluemail and Typemail (same app, basically). After the screen has been off for about 5 minutes, I stop getting notifications for email.
I have seen people blame this on doze, but my Nexus 6p isn't nearly this bad, at least not until it has been sitting for hours. I have tried everything to resolve this including:
Whitelist in battery manager
Whitelist in Doze settings
Notifications set to priority
Rooting and making Bluemail a system app (which I can't quite get to work for some reason)
Editing the doze settings with the doze setting editor app found on here
Running in Performance mode
Updating to B162
Disabling Phone Manager with Titanium Backup
Even all of these things in combination are not working. Nothing works. Since other Huawei devices have this issue, it doesn't seem like Huawei is planning to fix it. I know people want to blame Doze, but neither my Moto X Pure or Nexus 6P are this bad, both of which are running Marshmallow. Something else is going on with the ROM. Short of getting an actual Cyanogenmod port, I don't know that we'll ever see this resolved.
It's frustrating, too, because I like everything else about this phone, but this is a pretty big deal. A Smartphone that doesn't get notifications reliably is pretty useless.
I have the exact same issue as you, and have tried everything that you have tried as well.
Can't get it to work. It's like saying goodbye to a girl you really really love...
Please fix this somehow... anyone...?
Oh look, another thread about notification issues. This one should help. Has any of you made sure that mobile data stays on after screen goes off?

All settings are on, mobiledata during screen off, wifi always enabled etc.
It is not about receiving notification, it's about receiving them instant the same second as they are received.
We don't want to receive delayed 5-10mins notifications.
This happen both on mobiledata and on wifi as well.
Oh I can assure you that is a feature belonging to Android 6 called doze function. The phones who are updated to MM mostly received a not fully functioning version of Android 6.0. So you can not compare them.

What? So you're saying that the Nexus 6p has a "not fully functioning version of Android 6.0"? Go home, you're drunk. That phone does not have this issue, not to this extent.
It's not doze. I have manually edited the doze settings and the issue persists.
try disabling gmail, install outlook and protect it in the battery settings. then go into notifications and make sure it pops up how you want it to.
When i changed my locckscreen I started getting notifications regularly. Try a third party lockscreen app.

I wasn't even using gmail at first. I was using Bluemail (which is actually better than Outlook on Android) and I had the same issue. If it were that easy, I'd already be using a different email app.

I'm not drunk, I know this for sure. My LG G4 is also updated to 6.0 and now I also own a Huawei mate 8 and therefore I can tell the difference, it's huge. And about your nexus 6p I'm not sure, in any case I was talking about the updated phones.

My Moto X Pure is updated to 6.0 and has absolutely no delay with notifications, nor does my 6P, so there's a flaw in your logic.
This goes far beyond doze. This is something specific to the Huawei ROM and since previous Huawei phones (Mate 7, P8) had this exact issue on older versions of Android, it's pretty obvious that the problem lies with them and not doze.
Before I bricked my device I tested the hell out of this and found the issue.
Doze implementation is broken in the Mate 8.
The phone is supposed to wake up and check for notifications and it doesn't.
Turning off doze fixes all the issues on the Mate 8, at the cost of whatever benefit Doze would have offered.

It's certainly possible that it's broken for this device specifically. Fine, I'll bite. How do you disable doze with tasker? I thought I saw a tutorial on here before, but haven't been able to find it.

It worked for me to get notifications, but yes, I really wish Huawei would have fixed it.
Maybe in an upcoming version it will be fixed.
I am interesting to see if S7 will also have this problem.
Can you tell us non rooted people how to do this? I have dev options available but don't know how to do the rest.

Good morning everyone,
I'm from France. Two years ago, I bought a Huawei Ascend Mate 7. I was very happy about this device, but I had to sell it because of a bug with the notifications not coming through (Whatsapp, Facebook..) when the screen was off. I tried all the settings possible but nothing worked. Today, I'd like to buy a Huawei Mate 9, but I wonder if this bug is still there ? I did a lot of researchs about the settings we must apply before seeing notifications coming through.. like Protect the apps, Ignore battery optimization, switch power plan to "performance" etc... But people still have troubles on many Huawei devices.. I even red an article on xda about how to get rid of Doze on Huawei devices to see the notification get fully functional..
But also red many articles saying that Huawei will roll out an update at the Autumn to definitely see notifications work directly out of the box.. Is it true ? And is the fix already implemented in Emui 5.0 on the Mate 9 ?
Thanks a lot for all your answers. I'd really like to buy this device but I won't if this bug is still there...
Have a nice day !
I believe the bug you mention is due to the "feature" in EMUI which aggressively kills apps as soon as the screen is locked. In EMUI 5.0 this has now become an opt-in service. There is a list of apps, empty by default, which are killed. So the user now has far more control over this entire process. Personally I have had zero issues receiving whatsapp's or other notifications while the phone was sleeping.

Thank you very much for your answer ! That's very interresting and I'm very happy about it !
Where is this setting exactly in Emui 5.0 ?
You have 0 problem about notifications (on data as well as wi-fi ?) but, was it 100 % functional out of the box or did you have to apply some settings first ?
I'd also like to have more feedbacks before I make my final decision ! Anyways, thanks again ! That is a wonderful news !
It's part of the battery screen, app power saving tab. Worked fine out of the box for me, didn't need to change a thing.
Ok, that's great ! Thank you ! Can other Mate 9 owners confirm it ? So I think I'll go for it on Friday !
I can confirm. There is no notification bug that I have found yet.

It's still a useless number.
Wtf use is a number? Where have all my notification icons gone? Is this a emui issue?
I bought the mate 9 couple of days back and I'm confirming the issue of whatsapp still present. You won't be able to know how many unread messages you have from the icon, unless you open the app or top slider. Bearing on mind I've formated the device but it was a useless trial.

That's a different issue from what OP was talking about. You're discussing the fact notifications are grouped together in a number, he was discussing whatapp messages not even arriving because the phone would kill the application. The first is still present (Although the Android Police podcast was saying it would probably be fixed soon by a software update), the second has been solved in EMUI 5.0.
That's why I'm using smart launcher 3. Bestest launcher anyways but it also shows notifications per icon, really great. And the notification number in the notification bar you can switch them off int the settings. Better even, all my phone's notifications end up on my Pebble...
Nova launcher in my opinion is the best. I've been running it on all my android devices since it was released. It also has unread notification counts on each app of your choice. It's very fast and efficient. I have a Pebble time steel, so I agree with @blackspp.
+1 for Nova launcher on all my devices (paid)!
I also confirm notification issue with mine bought in germany
Hello again everyone,
So I bought the device two days ago and I received it yesterday. In the first place, when I ran some tests, I was I little bit worried because, on data, I had my Whatsapp notification only if I opened the app.. On wi-fi, everything worked instantly. Same problem I had with my Mate 7. Worst, a friend made a Whatsapp phone call right next to me.. And the phone started ringing only 10 - 15 secondes after..
But then, fortuantely, my friend and I kept running some tests and suddenly, the terminal behavior was normal.. So... I didn't understand all of this but.. fingers crossed for now !
Thank you all !

I can confirm the delay of push notifications with Nine email. Very irregulary. Some time the notifications are very on time but sometimes the delay is max ca 4 minutes.
I confirmed the whatsapp notification bug still present.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I can also confirm the notification bug exist. I enabled all permissions and disabled all battery optimization options but am still not getting whatsapp notifications unless I open the app.
Does anyone know if switching to Nova launcher will help retrieve those notifications? Or does it only affect the display of the notifications (bubbles on icons instead of number in status bar)?
