Bits and bobs still missing but this looks promising... - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Anyone thinking they'll try it when it's all complete?

Why are you posting this clickbait article here? Those are generic instructions for every phone out there.

Actually, they're not. I didn't post a clickbait article at all. I posted one that I was looking around the web for and found this. I'm sorry if you feel it's clickbait, I don't think it is. Matter of fact, there are parts of it still to be updated once the device IS released. Maybe reading it would help rather than just dismissing it out of hand.

I don't mean to burst your bubble but I think you are wrong, it is clickbait - there is no recovery - no idea if one will even be avaialble at this time. Bootloader unlocked is a complete unknown right now - so the web site you linked to and many others I have seen everytime a new phone is released (yes they did this for the S7 Edge (us and international varients too) long before the phone had even shipped - I don't know if the people responsible for this web site did the S7 Edge site that was nearly identicle to this one or not - but they are selling ads and looking for click thrus using rooting the S8 as the attraction - and frankly, while the instructions are fine (minus the important links for TWRP) - they are the exact same instructions any samsung phone would have - nothing new here at all.

Thats exactly what makes it clickbait, its unfinished with no files, i could of posted the same thing. Besides root articles come from xda first not some no name mytechvirus website.

article seems to be clickbait dude, literally ctrl+F ctrl+C CTRL +V to make it seem for S8+. so far I have heard that the snapdragon S8+, all US models, have a locked bootloader, can't say about the exonys model.

I've messaged the moderators to remove the thread. Apologies.

Boy Howdy these Xda members know whats up.

Thread closed on OPs request.

[READ] This is the SGH-T959V(SGS4G) Not The Vibrant, or the Galaxy S 4

Hello Android Developers | ROM Flashers | Hackers | Modifiers | "I want my phone to look cool" People
First of all, I'd like to point out a few interesting things about this device.
-This is an Android powered phone that is officially supported to Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread
-The is the Galaxy S 4G. It is part of the Original Galaxy S (1st Generation) series and was once offered by ]"THREE" carriers. Mainly T-Mobile, secondly Wind Mobile, and most infrequently, Telus. The unique think about this phone is it was the first 4G Galaxy S Phone on T-Mobile.
-The model numbers are SGH-T959V(For T-Mobile), SGH-T959W(For Wind Mobile), and SGH-T959P(For Telus).
-A vast majority of support on this forum goes to the SGH-T959V for T-Mobile as it is the most common. There are a few T959W users on this forum who also have a few important threads, as well as if you are a T959W user, it is smart to note that yes, you can generally flash T959V roms, yet, you should "NOT" flash T959V Bootloaders and other such partitions such as the Boot, SBL, and Param sections as this MAY result in a permanent brick.
-There are no current T959P specific posts, and it is unknown whether there are any Telus users here. It is currently unknown but probably consistent that these users may be able to flash T959V roms.
OST OR ASK QUESTION
NOW THE MAIN POINT
First, If you haven't read the above section. GO BACK AND READ IT
MAIN MESSAGE
To all noobs, the T-Mobile (WInd or Telus) Galaxy S 4G is NOT internally similar to its predecessor, the T-Mobile Galaxy S Vibrant which lacks 4G and Gingerbread support. If you flash a Galaxy S Vibrant ROM, your phone may (and probably will) die, and will likely be void from warranty if you still have it! You should only flash ROMS available in THiS forum. All other Galaxy S variants including Galaxy S I9000, and other Galaxy S SGH model ROMS, Galaxy Y ROMS, Galaxy S II ROMS, Galaxy S III ROMS, Galaxy Note I ROMS, Galaxy Note II Roms, Galaxy Note 10.1 ROMS, Galaxy Tab ROMS, Galaxy Player ROMS, and any other Android Phone ROM will also kill the phone.
The label, Galaxy S doesn't mean Galaxy S "4G". There is a "HUGE" difference.
THERE ARE NOW AN INCOMING FLOOD OF GALAXY S "4" USERS.... THIS IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT DEVICE... PLEASE POST IN THE FORUM THAT CORRESPONDS TO THE MODEL NUMBER BEHIND YOUR BATTERY
THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THIS WARNING IS TO STOP GALAXY S 4G AND GALAXY S VIBRANT USERS FROM FLASHING ROMS THAT ARE NOT FROM THEIR EXACT PHONE'S FORUM AS WELL AS TO STOP AN INCOMING FLOOD OF GALAXY S 4 USERS TO POST QUESTIONS IN HERE

Seriously, sticky this beast. Its almost every day I see a thread with some poor sap who didn't do ANY research, has a bricked phone because he was trying to flash a vibrant ROM XD
While part of me says that if they can't bother to do the research before messing with a very expencive device then they deserve to be bricked with a voided warranty but then the other part says that this is good info so it is now stuck.
i do have to agree that this is good info, but isn't this referring to #3 in the 10 commandments thread? just wondering.

Good point. From some of the threads I've been reading, it doesn't sound like some people even pay attention to the stickies as it is.
Maybe the better question: Does having yet another sticky stop people from posting stupid stuff? Probably not.
I'm proud to be a part of this forum and community, and I'm tired of having to filter through a bunch of crap to find the needle(useful post) in the haystack(thread).
I hope that we, as a community, can band together to report abusive users (by clicking the alert triangle in the title bar of the abusive user's comment) and to help nurture the newbies to feel safe to ask questions so they don't follow bad advise and bootloop or worse... brick.
I hope that this being sticky catches someone's eye so they don't flash the wrong roms, if they are on other phones.
For the record I came to this site after flashing a vibrant rom through(gasp) ROM Manager. You know the story. Only option close to this phone was VIBRANT(this was back in feb and still the same). Some better googling led me here. Fixed my problem without so much as a post. Other people think and act different than I do. They will ask for help. They will be noobs. It's your choice whether or not to help. If you choose not to help than let that be it.
Oh bye the way NO ONE reads stickies

I thanked, because it seems to be the biggest problem with this site.
No one reads the stickies.
Should the site maybe implement a lightbox of some sort that pops up to remind users of the rules and reading the stickies and ops?
EDIT: It would be annoying, but if it worked, it would become less annoying to *not* have to scroll through 100-200 page threads of newbs fighting over stupid crap posted in the sticky and op...

We have tried to make things as easy as we can but in the end this is a development site so when joining is is expected that people research and learn. I just wish people would stop following videos that are mostly out dated. It is amazing how lazy some people are. To be honest I am all out of pity and sympathy for those that don't do their homework. Its not rocket science after all lol

It's not rocket surgery or brain science. The simple fact is people want an easy way to do things. That's why they(myself inluded) are here. My homework is my own. So is my frustration. I ask not for sympathy but for pentance. I am so fuc?ing tired of off the cuff remarks from users of this site that claim to "know it all" but slam some poor ****er asking for help. How do you build a comminity on top of that? Search for sure. Notice the hottest topic right now is this one?

Do not expect people to be you. I sure as hell don't
I don't but I do expect them to do what I did when started, the same thing that everyone is expected to do. And that is to spend a good amount of time reading. When I started I knew nothing of modding and only had basic computer skills. So I joined and spent weeks reading up on what I was doing before I even attempted to software unlock my device. If you asked a question here without doing your research you were flamed left and right as it was and still is expected that people do the research before posting. Mainly sense modding your phone breaks your warranty and if you bricked it there was no way back and no returning to stock to return it.
As for the off the cuff remarks, I am sorry it has come to this. You can ask any one of my team mates. I am the first to spend hours upon hours helping people. Hell I have even spent 4 hours on an international call to help a user that has bricked his phone. In the end it comes down to if you do the research and then after all the work it is still acting up then people are more opted to help.

One thing to remember alot of people are not you. We agree are many things. People are still not you. Because A = B if I am A or B than we are the same. C is always an option. Agreed.
For anyone that has been keeping up. Please don't think that I am trying to say that I am like some tech guru. Lol far from it. I only meant to show what can happen when you put some love, effort, common since, strong searchfu toss in some grey hairs into your device. Never know the guy that joins XDA tomorrow may become the next CM.
If you believe you can or if you believe you can't either way you are right.
pft.
Sometimes when your having a bad day, keeping your fingers off the keyboard makes things better.
I had to re-read hechoen 3 times until I got it.
agreed. Also, people should not flash to their phone until they really know what they are doing. When I first rooted my G1, I read for 2 months before trying. Also, I ended up frying my rom and being stuck i bootloader for a day, but I never posted a single thread anywhere(I wasn't a member). So before people say "HELP, am I bricked?" they should try "EVERYTHING" to solve their own problems. The senior members aren't the phone company warranty plans.
google does a good job of leading other galaxy variants to different forum. When i first googled this phone google led me to the i9000 forum, and from reviews and comparisons on other sites they say this phone is very similar to the vibrant so its easy to get confused. Its bad enough samsung has like 10 phones with the galaxy name on it too. I think this thread should be stickied on general and Q and A also, its very easy to be misled here.

So, why is the xda-dev wiki leading noobs to believe otherwise?
Clicking on that link (which is supposedly a list of all the Galaxy S models), we see the Galaxy S 4G nestled in amongst all the generic Galaxy S models. Shouldn't there be a separate section here for the 4G just as there is for a Galaxy S II and a Galaxy Tablet?
It's one thing to make this post a Sticky (which may or may not be found via searching), and quite another to deliberately classify the Galaxy S 4G as a Galaxy S on the Wiki (which is much more prominent than a Sticky)!
p.s.
I had specifically asked a moderator to create a new group for the Galaxy S 4G over 6 months ago...

I actually beg to differ. The galaxy s 4g is a 'galaxy s' phone based on the s5pc1xx (specifically the s5pc110 in PoP with the onenand-flex and dram, just like the epic4g and fascinate) processor (hummingbird chipset). The sgs2 is based on the exynos chipset.
The tablet IS in a class of it's own.
I don't understand your post.

Can you or can you NOT currently Root an AT&T One-X?

OK, i searched, I researched and found so much conflicting information. Some posts in red caps say THIS IS EXPIRED NOW BECAUSE OF UPDATE..
I want to put a custom ROM on my ATT One - X. I'm brand new to this, but fairly computer savy. So, with out getting flamed, could someone PLEASE direct me to the appropriate link that will effectively with out too many headaches, lead me to be able to root my phone, and then install a custom rom?
Thx!

Depends on what software version your on if it's 2.20 then no you can not root your phone at this time. If it's any other version besides 2,.20 then yes check this thread.
[INDEX] AT&T/ROGERS One X Resources Compilation Roll-Up (Updated 9/17/12)
If your stuck with 2.20 then you can follow the progess for root here
Root 2.20 Think Tank
Depends on what software version your phone is running. For US AT&T phones, if you're running 1.73 or 1.85 then it's rootable. If you're on 2.20, then you're out of luck at the moment. Good luck.
Also - mind the "PLEASE DON'T POST QUESTIONS IN THE GENERAL FORUM" thread. We've got a Q&A sub forum here for that.
Cheers,
-V
I know your pain of all the conflicting and outdated stickies and guides. It took me several hours to try the different methods that might work. I ended up lucking out and getting one with 1.85, and used this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296
One thing to add is that when you hit the check for updates button, let it sit. It will look like its doing nothing, but hitting it again will start the download. Took my 4 factory resets and several tries, but it finally worked. Then you SuperCID, unlock Boot loader, install TWRP. Those guides were easier and once rooted they all work, its just the rooting that's tricky.
And as mentioned this all goes out the window if it arrives on 2.20.
Good luck.

Pray tell, which stickies are outdated???
My index thread here is updated at least weekly (sometimes more often, if there is a lot of dev activity). And the date it was last updated is clearly indicated in the thread title.
This index thread clearly lists the working root methods; and what firmware the method applies to is clearly stated, either in the thread title, or I've made a note to indicate it.

As stated in the first line of the thread this method no longer works, but I wouldn't know that until I went to the thread. "ACT NOW" Why is this still in the guide as a viable option? Why isn't it noted that this no longer works?
Note to add to guide: This method no longer works and is only in the guide for reference purposes
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633071
Bootloader must be unlocked first. How do you unlock the bootloader? Root. Wait, what? Round and round we go. Why not note this method only works for phones with the BL already unlocked?
Note to add to guide: This method only works for non-AT&T branded phones that can have the Bootloader unlocked. BL must be unlocked before rooting, see thread for details.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684382
None of those methods worked when I tried them.
Note to add to guide: Reports of this method not working for phones shipped on 1.85.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296
Only method that worked with my phone. I am not used to ADB, so I tried EVERY other method several times first. And as I stated, this guide could use some additional steps to help avoid some scary situation where you are in the middle of downloading the udate you fear and have no idea how to stop it. Hint: Reboot doesn't work, you must factory reset again to stop the download.
This is why it took me almost 4 hours to root my device.
The guide could flow something like this:
Do you have an AT&T branded version?
- No --> Unlock the BL [here], and root [here] or [here]
- Yes --> proceed
What firmware are you on?
- 2.20 --> STOP you cannot root
- 1.85 --> Try the ONE method the works [here] (for reference [this] method used to work)
- 1.73 --> Try one of these methods [here][here][etc]
The rest of the sticky is fine. But everything hinges on rooting your device, and it is so confusing to try to figure that out for a new user to the phone. I appreciate the guides that do exist, that is why I don't complain in the guides, just try to assist the other people new to the device by explaining my experiences just last week. I imagine the only way to test the method is to get a brand new phone, and try it. Something that is not reasonable. But, just by reading the OP and the last page of each thread I could make the above observations that would help the guide.
Not trying to be dis-respectful at all, but you asked what was outdated. It is very confusing for a new person to this phone without all the history of the last 6 months.
I wonder which is clogging up the forum more. People who "aren't searching properly" or the ones who reapeatedly post over and over again complaining about it. Jeez..

I'll agree that my index can use some updates as you suggest (although some of your comments are a bit too nitpicky for my taste). But you're talking about a few lines of a rather extensive index. To dismiss it all as "outdated" is an insult to many hours I've taken to create and continually maintain the thread. Your tone may not be disrespectful, but it certainly sounds ungrateful.
If you had issues with the index, you should have replied on that thread with your suggestions or PMed me when you found the updated items, just like I ask in the intro to the index. Complaining about it in another thread is the wrong way to have gone about it.
With respect to you, and not realizing it is your thread, I can understand you being frustrated with all the work you put in to it. So, I'm reply basically to say thanks for the work that you do.

I've spent a lot of time and effort to create and maintain the index thread for people to use. Its a sticky at the top of Development, no searching is required, and it lists most any resource you will need for this phone. Tons have people have gotten themselves into serious trouble soft or hard bricking their phones, or otherwise wasting a lot of time, when they could just used the index, and avoided all that.
I'm sorry I'm "clogging up the forum" with my index. With post like this, I sometimes wonder why I fricking bother.

Both of those stickies link to root methods that do not work. They are in the General and Q&A sections, and are titled for N00Bs to start there. As a N00b to this device that is where I started. That is the only sticky in the Q&A section, and my first question was "How do I root this phone?" In the Samsung forums these types of guides are in the General section.
As I said I do not mean to be ungreatful or disrespectful. That is why I did not complain it's outdated in the thread. Something that is taboo on XDA. Lowly members are flamed for challenging RCs, Devs, or Mods. I understand you put a lot of time into that thread. I can imagine the countless hours you put into compiling it. I think that rooting the phone is the most important part of that guide because nothing else in the guide is possible without root, and as such it should be accurate and clear. It's also the most confusing part of the guide, and the One X forum in general. I do appreciate the time and effort you put into your guide, and if I thought suggestions on the thread would be have been received peacefully I would have commented there, I apologize for bringing my issues up in a way that offended you. The Samsung forums have a total different feel and unwritten procedure, I am still getting used to the One X forum.

I've been around here for 5 years, over the course of 5 devices, and I've never seen anyone flamed for suggesting to correct/revise a guide. Asking for ETA on a ROM update is the closest I've seen to what you are saying (usually not a good idea). But people who have written guides, indexes, etc. are typically very open to comments on how to improve their thread and keep it up to date. They made the thread to help people, and want nothing more than to have it do so effectively. If they don't update it, its usually because they don't have the time.
Also keep in mind that my index is meant to be a listing of resources, not a guide, per se. I've tried to add some additional info in the index to help folks along. But I can't claim to be an expert on every link (or anything close to an expert). For instance, when it come to root, I rooted way back on 1.73. So I've never even tried any subsequent root methods. Therefore I can't personally validate them, I can only try to comment on what I've read others post.
Not being a developer, the index is the one thing I give back to this community (along with random posts trying to help others). I'm completely open to suggestions to make the index better, and more up to date. I've already incorporated the suggestions you made earlier.
Cheers.

Calling All Nexus 5 LTE bands modders...

So it looks like both the Xperia and Galaxy dudes can enjoy unlocked LTE bands on their Qualcomm powered phones. I found this tutorial here
I was able to go through the entire tutorial. The problem is that upon reboot the settings will revert back to their original parameters.
Has anyone have successfully unlock world LTE bands on the LG D820..?
Also while trying to backup the original configuration of my phone using the QPST tool, my Nexus asks for an "SPC" unlock code which i do not know what it is... The software fails to retrieve the dump because of lack of this code.... does anyone know how to retrieve this code from the phone..? i sure do not know what it is...
This is not a galaxy. Not one person in this forum has "unlocked", "activated" of "added" any LTE bands. What's more, this question is asked on a daily basis.

I know and have read people unlocking qualcomm devices left and right... just haven't seen any Nexus 5 traffic.... did you guys read the threads on the links i posted..? these mods are for Qualcomm devices... not just Galaxys and Xperias... there were mere examples...

I don't need to read them. I've seen them before. No one on this forum has activated, unlocked or added any LTE bands to the Nexus 5.

All the threads i have found so far as in regards to what works out of the box in other areas... modem flashes and so on... nothing proactive like the threads i have found in other forums..... There are Chinese dudes using their D820 in china right now...? how do i know..? i got results through Google in Chinese. The problem is that when you push those sites through translate, they dont make any sense. Furthermore, illustration materials posted are all in Chinese since they are graphics..... But really nothing in regards to how to unlock Qualcomm devices for other LTE bands... there is a difference... It may seem to you that they are the same but the questions are NOT.... i have posted the threads so that you can perhaps put down the sniper rifle and do some clicking... and read..!!!! nothing more..! if you have heard or read anything, awesome..! post it...! if you haven't then perhaps this would be an opportunity to check out these threads.

You seem to be ignoring the facts. There are threads here discussing modifying the LTE bands at length. No one here, on XDA has managed to unlock, activate or add LTE bands to the nexus 5. I know this because I've ready every single thread in the nexus 5 forum about LTE bands. I've read every answer and read every link similar too those that you posted today. No one here has done it. I've told you this no less than 3 times now.

all right.... like i said! i have successfully rewritten the NV Bands String from stock to one that supports European bands. It loads it in memory and it seems to work well switching from Edge to HSPA+ very quickly unlike the stock string that took for ever to do the same switching.... haven't tested LTE because there is none in my area.... the problem is that upon new NV bands strings gets overwritten by the default string and the problem ensues... i will try to head on to Regensburg tomorrow and test

The amount of threads that have been created just for this silly thing.. Seriously, I don't see why. People should just get the right model, or get a different device.

[Q] Is a new root method being worked on?

I've only had my S6 for a couple weeks so mine was already updated to the latest OTA version by the time I got it, and so I can't use pingpong. I don't mean to be redundant and post this question if it has already been asked but I can't find any other info at the moment in this forum, but does anybody know if anything is in the works for the current version that it would be worth holding off on the upcoming 5.1 OTA? Or is the root that you first wave guys got to use probably a one-time thing for this phone? Coming from an HTC one where I was able to unlock my bootloader I am starting to miss having root...
If a new Root is available, you will SEE it all over the forums... no need to ask.

Yeah don't bother reading the question before posting a dumb pretentious answer to it. I asked if one was being WORKED ON that was worth holding off on the OTA for, not if one was available now.
I agree.. Lots of jerks in these forums.. I check regularly to see if a root method is available BUT ALSO to see the progress if any.. Simple yes or no or say nothing .. No need to be an ass.

I'm not sure if a root method is being worked on for the current update but I can tell you that the exploit for pingpong has been patched so that is a one time thing. I think our best bet for the next method will be when 5.1 comes out.

No, everyone has given up all hope and quit.
Seriously, what kind of answer to you think you would get?
The people working on it are rarely going to talk about it until they actually have a solution unless they are working with other developers trying out possible solutions. None of it is going to be public until they have a solution to prevent the MFG or vendors from plugging up a new hole they found before they can use it.
Asking if it is being worked on is just plain dumb. This is the same cycle of every new device that has ever been released with the same questions asked all over again.
What really is the point in asking? IF and when it becomes available it will be big news splashed all over the forums not just here but other places.
Constant asking about it is actually a violation of the forum.

Asking once like I did isn't against any forum rules, trolling everything thread you participate in like you do is: it doesn't take a hard look through your posts to see that. I'm surprised your mommy and daddy let you talk like this on the internet. You don't actually contribute any knowledge or development to this site, you just act like a moron to make yourself feel better about how fat and useless you are. Stop even posting in my thread you scum

Don't take things to heart. You have no idea the mean, egotistical, lonely, MODERATOR EDIT that I've taken MODERATOR EDIT from. I agree, quite a few negative unnecessary replies.

Rooting my SM-G30V

Hello all!
New to the site and new to android (relatively speaking). For the last 7 years, I have been trapped with Apple and decided to pick up a 2nd line so I can get a rooted android phone. Should have done my research before hand and I will definitely know for next time but after hours of trying to root my S7, found out.... I need to unlock bootloader. Great! Start searching around and I am reading conflicting posts and forums. Some say you can others say you can't. I have seen a post here from about 5 months ago saying it is now possible, however, they provided no information on how to do it. Please excuse my noobness but this is my first attempt at rooting. This phone is a junk phone mainly used for me to screw around with as my real personal phone is still my apple. Can anyone provide help? Is it possible? If so, what steps or anyone have any guides I can go follow? Links and or information would be greatly appreciated!! Been trying all week with no luck.
Is it possible... kind of but its shouldn't be your daily, should you do it based on your noobness... no.

Never said this was my daily please read again as this is a junk phone for me to destroy and screw around with. I am a developer so just because I am a noob doesn't mean I am technologically illiterate either This just is something I never looked into before since I have had an apple phone for my personal usage for the last 7 years and it was something I have never been interested in doing until recently. I actually bought this phone with the intention of rooting, however I didn't do my homework as I thought pretty much any android would be able to be rooted.
Thank you for your time to reply though but I did find the thread as it was in a different forum section and I will give that a try.
You my friend have can to the right place. Xda will be your main go to from this point on when it comes to your Android device related Intel needs.
Check this area of the site. It's directed to owners of the Verizon S7 Variant (G930V)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s7
You will find the info you need there to do what your looking for. Be sure that when u are flashing and messing with files that you get firwares/files that are for your particular model and also check build numbers and stuff like that. Do your research before making any attempts at something your unsure of. Ask questions. Community Members will be glad to help.
Have fun and be careful
