VR not working on my honor 8! - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

I have had issues with Google cardboard and YouTube 360 videos, image keeps spinning and I cannot control it. Is there any ways to fix this?

Same exact issue. RMA'd my first one because all of my Gyroscope sensors are going crazy. Was positive it was hardware after searching the issue and getting input. Got the new one today, same problem...

I use my Honor 8 with my Google Cardboard and it works perfectly. Maybe I am just lucky.

So, just had some luck with rolling my Honor 8 back to Marsh Mellow and EMUI 4.1. No more issues. Might not be the most appealing way, but it works. You can use the Rollback and EMUI 4.1 downloads on Honor's support site if you happen to go this route!

Honor 6 Yellow tint ?

I observed that my Honor 6 is more yellowish/warmer tone in the bottom of the display . It is visible on white backgrounds. and even in light grey backgrounds. It is a common issue with Honor 6? I saw some threads for OnePlus One with almost the same issue. How is yours?
It is something like this (it is not a Honor 6 but for example):
haven't got this on my device, maybe its some kind of a hardware problem.
how old is your device?
My device was brand new. I returned him and get a full refund. I tried to put under the UV light but from my opinion make it even worse...

This is an old and known problem. It's on almost every H6 device around right now. I'd say it's on all H6 devices since I can't really trust anybody that says they don't.
Apparently UV light fixes it.

Mine is fine...
But yeah, it's a hardware problem. I'd guess something about the glue discoloring. Apple had the same problem with their iMacs a couple of years ago.
Unfortunately there's no permanent fix, other than replacing the entire screen assembly and hoping the new one doesn't have the same problem. But then again it probably will, unless they changed the manufacturing process to fix this problem.

The Essential 360 Camera Unboxing and Overview

My unboxing of the Essential 360 camera is live now on YouTube. Check it out!
I place the camera on the phone, blue light comes on then a purple light and then this popup says:
"Essential 360 Camera Unavailable, needs update."
That is what popped up on my screen. My firmware has the latest update.
I emailed SUPPORT and see what they say. I just received it today also.

You missed the 360 cam notification that said, click to update. The update is NOT for your PH-1, it's for the 360 cam.
First, connect to wifi,
If you clicked on it, it would have downloaded and installed the new update to the cam.
Plug the cam in, wait for the update required bit, then check for the notification to update.

Locks up Phone and PC when viewing
I did a 360 video. It locked up my phone twice. It also locked up my Facebook page, closed it and reopened, locked it up again, finally just deleted the file.
Also, I sent a 360 Photo to a friend on Messenger and it didn't actually do the entire 360°. It went from one end of of the 360 then stopped and then you
scroll back the other way to a stop. However on Facebook the 360 worked like it should. I think I'll keep my Ricoh Theta S.

Works fine for the most part. After the update it works after a few seconds of it connecting/activating the feed. Remember it is wireless so it has to buffer the data feed and whatnot once it activates (And the camera app being slow is no surprise). Mainly it works fine until you go to view a pic/video then it locks up the camera app. Close the app and it works fine after pulling the camera off and snapping it back on.
Only thing I don't like is pictures with your camera facing yourself, have you split in half for whatever reason saved. It works fine viewing in the photos app, but sending it to others is a mess. Weird.
My two cents: in short, it's a great little device and a really nice value add for $50, but I don't know if it has enough of a use case to justify the full $200 price tag.
First thing you notice when you open the box is it looks, and especially feels, so much better in person than you expect. The phone looked premium in photos, but the cam looked cheap and plasticky to me. Once you're holding it though, you realize it's really nicely built, smooth metal finish and just hefty enough to feel solid without being heavy.
It's really easy to use, but it does take a few moments to start showing up once you open the camera app, so don't try quick reflex shots with it. Also, there might be a firmware update when you first attach it - that worked without a hitch, and took about two minutes.
With only a 4K camera on each side the photos are hardly the kind of high-res we've come to expect from smartphone cameras, but this is a different experience so I'm alright with that. The photos are clean and contrast is decent enough. The stitch around the middle between the two sensors is seamless except if anything gets too close - the hand you're holding the phone in will look kind of creepy.
I'm going on the road for work for a year and plan to create a 360 album so my family and partner can get a VR-ish taste of where I am every week. If I weren't doing that, I have the feeling this camera would sit in a drawer somewhere and be brought out a couple of times a year for special occasions or just to show off as a fun gadget. I don't think I'd spend serious money on it and it still confuses me that this is what Essential wanted to bring to market first as an accessory, but I have to admit it's a good one. If you nabbed the bundle and only paid $50, I'd say you'll get your money's worth.
Ran the 360 Cam for about a 20 minute drive today. The video footage is actually quite excellent compared to many other 360 cameras I have seen so far. If you get the use out of it I do think it is easily a $200 camera that can hold its own against the other 360 cams in its price range.
However, the problem with the way it splits directly screen facing front is a big bummer, and the other fact that the phone has no way to properly play your 360 video out of the box is quite an odd omission. If anything have a bit in the app that flags it as a 360 video in the meta data so you can upload it to YouTube directly from the phone and everything works hunky dory.
And would it have killed them to include a little microfiber carry bag to carry the camera around separately? Small but it would have made it a lot less awkward than just throwing the cam in your pocket naked.
Outside of that though it really is quite a good camera addon.

You have to host the pics on a site like "momento360" or any other 360 hosting site and then send the links to your friends like you would with Photobucket or Dropbox. The reason is that it has to be stitched together by software when viewing. Our phones have this built in but others don't. The hosting sites made for 360 can provide the stitched 360 view of your image. I believe Facebook now has it built in as well. This way you won't be cut in half anymore. If your recipients used something like Google cardboard to open your videos then that might work too. 360 is 360 and must be viewed with 360 software or apps or hosted by sites capable of providing a 360 view.

You know what sucks? I was speaking to some of the engineers at the NYC event and asked about protecting the camera when it's not in use. they said it was supposed to come with a clamshell case to keep it safe... it does not. you have to lay it down on one of the glass lenses...

I'm looking for some way to adjust the iris on this thing. I would have had a great 360 video of a hockey goal being scored, but it's just a big blotch of white on the ice. Is it even possible to fix this in software? Several of my use cases have had this problem.

Touch Screen Dead-Zone

Lately (since oreo i believe), a lot of phones affected by this weird bug. When you touch the screen, and move your finger really slowly, the OS ignores that slight accurate movement. After a couple of milimeters movement, it then recognize the movement, creating a sudden jump in detection .
It is not a sensitivity issue, because right after you touch the screen, it detects your finger. But the OS maybe choose to disregard that slight accurate movement as accidental.
In my experience, the same thing occurs in Sony XZ2, P20 Pro (now fixed since 120 firmware), in smaller extent in Mix 2s, and yes in OP6 as well (alo not as pronounced but definitely there).
Most users wont be aware of this issue, but avid fps gamers who needs accurate aiming might be troubled in getting their frags.
Check out these videos, one is of oneplus 6, and the other one as a comparison pixel 2 xl with almost zero deadzone.
Oneplus 6
Pixel 2 XL
Anyone else experiencing this "problem"? Still experiencing it on 5.1.6 ..

Just test it with the multi-touch app and i can see it too.
But honestly, I was not aware of the issue. I didn't notice a thing in normal use.
Have you reported this to OP?

Yes under normal daily use it is definitely not noticeable..
Btw, how to report to OP? Oneplus forums?
I have it as well,
Mine is very annoying because every content that I wanna see is very frustrating because every tiny bit of a swipe makes the page go down or up a lot and fast

if you touch, hold, slowly slide your thumb to aim, will it follow instantly? Or does it have slight delay until it recognize your precise movement?
just a shot in the dark , But try disabling pocket mode under advance see if that makes a difference.

Dust in camera

Is there anyone who has dust in the back camera issue?
It seems this phone has much higher possibilities having this issue. Most of the middle range phones rarely have this issue(but sometimes it does happen)
I was thinking about buying this phone, but there are tons of complaint on Huawei club forum and Baidu tieba about the dust in camera.
Huawei hasn't admitted the issue officially yet. Huawei exchanges the problematic phones with new ones, but the new one still has this problem after days of normal use.

Any known issues?

Hey guys. Have currently ordered my new 12 gb one plus 7 pro nebula blue and I can't wait till it arrives but had a quick question for everyone......
Has anyone noticed any major or minor bugs or glitches on the phone?
I'm coming from a huawei p20 pro and I know the os and everything is going to feel fluid and google like but it's a major step for one plus to go to a curved display and 2k display and 90 hertz display so it could be little experimental but I was just wondering if anyone was having any issues with the phone if they don't mind sharing. I would love to know.
I'm sorry if I put a duplicate thread but didn't notice a thread with bugs and issues.
And I did see online that people were experiencing "phantom" touches issues and was wondering if anyone else was having that issue and what I need to do to avoid it from happening to my phone.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I actually have ghost touch issues, and it seems a lot of people also got it, if not everyone. But due to the fact it happens under some condition, not everybody seems to be aware of it. You have to run your screen at 90Hz, with NFC enable, and launch some specific apps like CPU-Z or reddit for it to happens, because it seems the issue come from the NFC. I heard it was a software issue and Oneplus is working on it, and I hope it is, because if it's an hardware issue, I will sell my phone.
Well, if you can deal with this ATM, this is a very nice phone, I sold my S10 to get this one and I'm absolutely not disappointed!

So if I understood correctly. You're saying it is possible because of nfc connection being on?
It disappears if nfc is off? I barely use nfc anyways so hopefully my phone will be fine.
And hopefully it is software and not hardware issue. That would suck as I can't return it where I am atm and will have to wait a month or so before I can if it's hardware issue.
And to my understanding.... Oneplus had a software update that improved camera and performance etc... Did you install it and have you noticed the ghost issue gone or still present in the new update?
Thanks for the update

From my understanding the phantom touches issue is very rare. I havent havent had the issue. The only bug I have noticed is when a phone call ends, youre always taken back to the homescreen. So if youre on twitter or playing a game, once the call ends any app will auto close. Its annoying but nothing crazy and will most likely be fixed soon.

First time hearing about that one. But thanks for you input.
Not a deal breaker for me but I can see how that can get annoying.
Have you or anyone noticed the earpiece random noises when on the call like other people have?
Or it's just device specific?
I bought the phone Friday when it came out. So I'm scared I bought the phone too soon and I might get more bugs on my phone that anyone else's but only time will tell when I get the device in hand.
(I ordered it early but since I'm in Africa right now, I had to ship it to USA international then ship from there to me using a third party delivery shipping service. That's why I haven't received the phone yet and have been waiting for a while)

That's good. Fingers crossed mine doesn't have any issues. My first oneplus device.

Yeah this is my first OnePlus device as well. I just switched from a Note 8 so I was already used to the edge display and I can say the edge display on this device is much better. The speed with 90hertz is also amazing and you can really tell the difference from 60hertz. The display is also great. With the front camera hidden inside the phone, the phone really feels like it is all display. Also the phone gets really bright making it easier to see in direct light and the night mode to tone down the blue light.... The greatest. I have sensitive eyes so looking at bright things at light was a rarity for me but this device can get really dark compared to phones Ive used in the past.
Anyways, I bought the phone the Friday when it went on sale. I had a lot of faith in OnePlus after hearing it do so well the past few years so I took the chance and got it.

Yea those are some of the reasons I got the phone as well. I'm coming from a used huawei p20 pro, a phone my brother passed on to me when he got the new mate 20 pro.
I've never bought a new phone. My first phone I ever bought was on contract which was the LG g4. Loved the curved back but screen didn't last for me (only one year in a 3 year contract at the time) then was using my back up phones until my brother gave me his p20 pro.
I've always wanted to try a curved screen display rather than curved back.
And I've been following one plus for a while, (I even got a referral for the oneplus one when they had a refferal service) but ended up selling it to someone else because I didn't trust oneplus back then but then after the other devices from one plus came out then I slowly gained interest.
And this oneplus 7 pro really caught my attention but these issues and bugs everyone is experiencing is really scaring me. If it's a hardware issue then I would have to take a long process to return the phone and I really don't want to do that.
Really hope it's a software issue and can get fixed in a future software update.
Or if I don't get the issues at all then that would be even better. Fingers crossed and will update the forum when my phone comes in.
I don't use the cpu app nor do I use nfc. So hopefully I don't encounter the issues but let's see. You never know
And how is the new update? Worth updating or made it worse?
Usually it's better but some people have been experiencing issues idk
Would love your input whether to skip that update when my phone comes or to download it right away
