Hi,
I am using a EU version of the mate 9 in the UK and i am still on B156.
Now this isnt an issue however i've seen threads on here talking about B181.
Just wondering if anyone else is "stuck" on B156 or/and if its anything for me to be concerned about.
Thanks.
Swiss mate 9, also running B156. It says "no updates" (eagerly waiting for my mate to mate with android auto in my auto).
For Europe I think it's B156 actually. I have some Problems and updated manually with Funkyhuawei. Update was fast without problems to B181.

B156 in TURKEY.
Everyone is stuck on B156 who isn't paying for a proprietary service to be able to upgrade early. You have nothing to worry about, it's normal.

It's normal but it is not comfortable because there is new updates however we cannot achieve those. This issue not okay. I wish to setup new roms suddenly by dload method . On the other hand our phones are incredible, I think most of the users endure this issue because of capabilities of mate 9.

I'm on B182. Don't worry. Really nothing new in this firmware but the security patch level from April 5.

From EMUI 5.0 and forward, Huawei implemented new security regarding the install of firmware. It's not just the Mate 9, but any phone on EMUI 5.0 or newer. The security involves:
1. Online updates, which are made available via Huawei's public servers. These require authentication from Huawei's server, signed by Huawei's key, in order to be installed. Huawei can revoke the authentication at any time, or enable it at any time, meaning that Huawei completely controls the install process.
2. Offline updates, which are made available to Huawei authorized repair shops. These updates can be installed from the SD card with dload method, but the new versions do not get released, just old version to allow recovery of broken phones. So far two of these have leaked onto the internet.
Really, this is not so different from Apple, for example. You can't just choose when to install an update on an iPhone. Apple has to approve it. For most users, this is the most secure way. But for enthusiasts who want to do rebranding, get updates early, etc., it is a pain. It's tremendously difficult and resource-intensive to get around the security for online updates.

If that is the case how come no one have asked Huawei to confirm this?
Ofc we can expect this to never be Ota but from what market has this been released?
Ask the support in that country in that case.
I just hope that this update improve the performance. If not I'll have to change the phone. When the phone gets laggy I'd throw it by the window

Same here it affects my physical and mental health. Every time it becomes laggy my stress and anxiety level goes up.
It has reported about extreme performance improvement over lollipop
All the last weeks since the leak of the beta MM releases, I read so much about trouble, problems, rollback and even more trouble...
Luckily I stayed on LP! So I guess it will still need some time - if they eveb haven't dropped it...
As almost at every company - only the model releases are important and care. Mate 7 is already long time past having dust on it! It's no more important for them on the market-battle...
i contacted huawei arabia official customer support.
and they said, it should be released soon, they are working on it.
so have patience

I do not think they are working on it...
I think when they decide to start working and finish the last 5% of the work
it will go kind of fast, the problem is the project has been put a side because other models are more prioritized obviously.
It is a stupid strategy to leave something 95% done and not finish it, it is a waste of resources it does also upset their customers.
They need to realize... about 8 million people are affect and will suffer mentally and physically because of the lack of software dedication.

i feel equally frustrated as you are,
but don't forget they are giving excellent phones at half price compare to other manufacturers :good:
remember lollipop upgrade it was released almost after a year, this time they started beta test earlier because i believe this will be the last update for this phone and they don't want any bug.
in past i never bought a huawei phone just because lack of updates, this time they looked much promising, as they have released MM for some phones, so don't lose hope.
as they have provided official MM downgrade packages, i doubt final version will be delayed.
It will be like last time. When Android N is released they will release Marshmallow .. So that we can be one version behind always.

Hi, I am a newbee to this forum, however I have used Mate 7 & 8 earlier, with little trouble.
I bought a Mate 9 from Wondamobile in England at a very high price, after making sure it was MHA-L29 model. I received the Mate, apparently from China in a shabby package and it was MHA-29, however the Asian model C636 with B110. Then I started reading xdadevelopers, because I had trouble with installing Microsoft Exchange and similar stuff, after 3 days of reading and trying to use the Funky-app, I gave up, and decided that I had bought a very expensive Camera, that could not be updated (tried 100-times to update via the Mate and HiSuite) I even found and downloaded updates that I could not find out of how to install (after 3 days of intensive reading ).
But this afternoon when I took a closer look, at the update-app of the phone, I noticed 3 small dots on the top line of the app of which one was: "Get latest full package" (or something like that as mine is running Danish language). I pressed the line and was immidiately asked if I wanted to download and install B138, I was even presented with update info., so I happily pressed YES and are now the proud owner of a Mate 9 that speaks Danish to me and handle my Exchange mail perfect.
Hope someone can use this info

Hi duraaraa!
No I did not succeed in setting up the FunkyHuawei DNS, because my Spanish provider apparently would not allow me (I partly live in Spain). So I actually decided to wait and give your Funky system a shot after I returned to Denmark (where I can handle the DNS).
But I actually just updated via the "3-dots" on the phone, after trying normal updating on the update-app, a lot of times everyday since I received the phone 1/1.

In that case it's safe to assume that your phone was on Huawei's approved list for that firmware version. I didn't know about the downloading full firmware feature before, though, so it will give me something to look into and reverse engineer

Didn't work for me (sob!) on my Euro version in the UK.
It didn't work for me as well when I try that in Canada.
I can confirm that this was the method I discovered in the USA using the MHA-L29C636. Sadly, it did not improve the MMS handling for the native messaging app.

So this would confirm that the updates are not dependent on the sim matching the phone region?
Is anyone aware of the possibility to flash firmware using the "DLOAD" folder on an external SD-Card?
It works for the MHA-L29C636 model (I've tested it).
My problem is that once i had it flashing from that dload folder, I forgot to delete it. So I set up my Mate 9 completely and when re-entering the eRecovery it flashed that ROM once again and did also do a factory reset.
So I had to set it up once again.
Is there any known possibility to disable factory resetting when flashing from the dload folder?
Btw. I have to admit that I was on B158 before and the ROM in that dload folder was B110. So it did a downgrade when I re-entered eRecovery.
need Dload files Oreo MHA c636 for update my mate9 nougat need drive link or mega FFinder no works more

Same boat, but, if from what I understand is correct, that the L29C185B is a middle east/African version, the only way around it would be to order a
prepay sim card from that region, then try it on wi-fi, or blow everything out and update it with a different build.
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think the Mate 8 was "officially" released in the USA, but, some of the other versions will work in the USA if the device
is not sim locked, which mine and apparently yours is.
I'm looking into a simple 1,2,3 step procedure, but haven't found one. It's been over 5 years since I was active in flashing.
My old Note1 was pretty stable, then my Mate2 was so stable, I didn't bother updating it, and it's been the same with the Mate8.
Can I live without 7, yes, but I'd like to have the option at some point.

FYI, I reached out to the USA version of Huawei, and they said since the version I have is not a USA version, they couldn't provide support, but,
they did give me a link to send a question to the international version of Huawei. I sent them an email, but since it was before sunrise in
China, they probably haven't read it yet.

Thanks. I sent an email, as well. Did they even make a US version/model of the Mate 8? I have the Mate 9, as well, bought from Amazon. I have yet to see updates for it, either. Supposed to have the update to add Alexa to it. Odd.
You can debrand to C636 or C432 and use everything as you use on C185, if nougat is so important for you, then.

Not so much "important" as it is, but it would be "nice" to have it for future apps, security etc.
I ran 4.3JB for a LONG time on my Mate2, until they came out with 5.1LL

OTA update in USA?
My Mate 8 is model L29C185B162, so it's also the Africa/Middle East version, and I'm in the USA.
I'd rather not deal with a manual update. Is it possible to get an over-the-air update to EMUI 5/Nougat for this phone? Do I need to insert an Israeli or South African SIM card to get this to work? If so, any tips on the best way to get one?
I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Was planning to ask for the unlock code, but....
"Unlocking the bootloader may result in unpredictable consequences for your device, including but not limited to those listed above. The user shall be held responsible in the event that the device malfunctions and cannot be recovered. Huawei will record your unlock request information; for software and hardware failures arising as a result of unlocking the bootloader, Huawei repair centers can provide repair services charged at the standard rate for repair work outside the scope of the warranty."
I'll prefer paying for an unlock app if I decide i need to one day, rather than losing my warranty for a code I'll probably never use.
If the hardware in your device starts malfunctioning - doesn't matter if 3rd party rom caused it, or if you even ever used a 3rd party rom...
chance is: huawei is going to put the blame on a 3rd party rom.
Wouldn't Huawei be better off if they kept offering the unlock codes? That way, if somebody screws up their device,
Huawei will know it's registered as an unlocked device and will not have to repair it for free
Guess they didn't think it through properly.
They stop the process of offering the codes because many people bricked their phone in the flashing/unlocking procedure and i think it were many complaints about this. So they think its a saftey measure.
I don't think requesting the code voids warranty I had a honor 9 lite that I applied for the code never actually used it had an issue later on were it would keep randomly re booting and switching off when used camera was replaced no issue under the 2 year warranty
Sent from my COL-L29 using Tapatalk
After they get their code and try roms and sh*t they brick their phone, not prior to that
Your warranty is voided after you use the code, its not like at Xioami, the bootloader will pe RELOCKED, not locked. So they can see that you used it.
I still cant get it, so i just stoped trying.
well the disclaimer is clear. when they "think" its caused by rooting (even if you never did) then you might have bo warranty because they can see who asked for the unlock code.
---
like those ppl who have malfunctioning hardware in phone, a phone that absolutely never got wet,
send it to repair and receive the message that "their phone got wet, repair will cost 90% of original price and if they want phpne back unrepaired then they need to pay 50$ for inspection and shipping costs...
their word against yours
I feel an itch to order a Mate 30 Pro from China, partly as a nod to way back when I ordered my first XDA phone from Hong Kong 15 years ago and became a member of this forum! But I must have a phone that I can use with Google pay and banking apps, which means that it has to work with Magisk or similar hidden root, like my current S9 does. So can anybody tell me if that is actually possible? I found it for £800 from China, with 3-4 days delivery, so I could have it by the weekend if that actually works.

First off all, Huawei isn't giving anymore unlock bootloader codes, you will have to pay ~200$ to Funky Huawei in order to get one (and don't know how and if will work).
We can't atm (or at least we didn't test it because of lack of developers) root on EMUI 10. And as i've read and know, on Chinese version you can't use Google, even if you sideload apps, as is written in this threads, it won't work.
So, short story is : if you really want root, go for other OEM (Pixel, Samsung, Xiaomi, etc). If you can skip root and want Mate 30 Pro to use with Google apps, go for an European version, LIO-L29 :highfive:

They stopped giving unlock bootloader codes 2 years ago, so only way is to pay @200$ (not tested yet method, only available few days ago) for Funky Huawey, but there is no TWRP, no way of extracting boot.img or recovery.img + kernel.img from EMUI 10 UPDATE. APP file so can be rooted using Magisk....
