Hi, I am a newbee to this forum, however I have used Mate 7 & 8 earlier, with little trouble.
I bought a Mate 9 from Wondamobile in England at a very high price, after making sure it was MHA-L29 model. I received the Mate, apparently from China in a shabby package and it was MHA-29, however the Asian model C636 with B110. Then I started reading xdadevelopers, because I had trouble with installing Microsoft Exchange and similar stuff, after 3 days of reading and trying to use the Funky-app, I gave up, and decided that I had bought a very expensive Camera, that could not be updated (tried 100-times to update via the Mate and HiSuite) I even found and downloaded updates that I could not find out of how to install (after 3 days of intensive reading ).
But this afternoon when I took a closer look, at the update-app of the phone, I noticed 3 small dots on the top line of the app of which one was: "Get latest full package" (or something like that as mine is running Danish language). I pressed the line and was immidiately asked if I wanted to download and install B138, I was even presented with update info., so I happily pressed YES and are now the proud owner of a Mate 9 that speaks Danish to me and handle my Exchange mail perfect.
Hope someone can use this info

Hi duraaraa!
No I did not succeed in setting up the FunkyHuawei DNS, because my Spanish provider apparently would not allow me (I partly live in Spain). So I actually decided to wait and give your Funky system a shot after I returned to Denmark (where I can handle the DNS).
But I actually just updated via the "3-dots" on the phone, after trying normal updating on the update-app, a lot of times everyday since I received the phone 1/1.

In that case it's safe to assume that your phone was on Huawei's approved list for that firmware version. I didn't know about the downloading full firmware feature before, though, so it will give me something to look into and reverse engineer
this works for me too!!! in the US bought on eBay C636 too!!! Awesome!!!!

Didn't work for me (sob!) on my Euro version in the UK.
It didn't work for me as well when I try that in Canada.
I can confirm that this was the method I discovered in the USA using the MHA-L29C636. Sadly, it did not improve the MMS handling for the native messaging app.

So this would confirm that the updates are not dependent on the sim matching the phone region?
Is anyone aware of the possibility to flash firmware using the "DLOAD" folder on an external SD-Card?
It works for the MHA-L29C636 model (I've tested it).
My problem is that once i had it flashing from that dload folder, I forgot to delete it. So I set up my Mate 9 completely and when re-entering the eRecovery it flashed that ROM once again and did also do a factory reset.
So I had to set it up once again.
Is there any known possibility to disable factory resetting when flashing from the dload folder?
Btw. I have to admit that I was on B158 before and the ROM in that dload folder was B110. So it did a downgrade when I re-entered eRecovery.
need Dload files Oreo MHA c636 for update my mate9 nougat need drive link or mega FFinder no works more

I had problems installing CoPilot from the danish website, and tried contacting their help-line...
Apparently, again I can only speak for the danish variant, the version on their website doesn't work for TD2. But HTC.com has a version under "support" that works beautifully with the TD2, and that's the one CoPilot's supporter told me to download.
So try and download that, and see if it works for you.
*fingers crossed*
Wulls,
I considered upgrading and checked it out on CoPilot's website only to discover that CP Live 8 is not compatible (either as a new download, or an upgrade) for TD2s or TP2s that came with the original 15-day trial version, even though the general compatibility chart states both handsets are compatible with CPL8.
So if yours, like mine, came with that trial version, then you will not be able to upgrade, which seems absolutely stupid to me.
I wonder however if you flashed a new ROM (most if not all of which wouldn't include to CP7 trial), then you be able to download it (CPL8) as a new instal (which costs just 3GBP more).
My first venture away from Tomtom (and I've regretted it for the most part)!
I forgot to mention I already purchased Copilot Live 7 for my Diamond 2 in May as no nav software came with it. Here is the reply from Alk when I explained this to them.
Thank you for contacting CoPilot Technical Support.
"I am confirming that indeed that the HTC Touch Diamond 2 without pre-installed copilot(trial version) will be able to upgrade copilot 8"
When I contacted them about not being able to download the upgrade They "think" that there is a problem with their server this is why I cannot download it, have been waiting two days for a reply
I dont have co-pilot7 pre installed and ive just brought co-pilot8 trying to install now.....
WORKING
Ive just got it working, no problems what so ever, guess u need to have a devise which didnt orginally have copilot pre installed

It would have been version 8...
But I ended up finding a different sollution, since their support took ages to answer even the simplest of questions.
I had contact with them both by email and by phone...
It took almost 2½ weeks for me to get an answer on what to do, and that was after calling them.
I rarely use support/helplines, but when I do I expect to get a quick reply...
that got to be the dummest firm i ever did buy something from, my TD2 came with a CD with 15 days trial. i quickly buy the europe maps, now i cant upgrade to the newest V8, it says my product cant be upgraded. **** thats lame.
i will wait and see what their support says about that.
or els i have to move on to TOMTOM or something like that.
to bad my licens is only 3 months old........
I downloaded v8 from the UK website (I live in Germany and the German site doesn't as yet have v8 on offer). It took ages to download as the transfere speed never exceeded 42kb/sec, even though I have a DSL6000 line. But once I had all the files on the desktop it only took a minute or two to transfere to my SD card.
I have used it a few times to test on routes that I normally use for work and it works great. GPS aquisition is much faster than with my old TT6, and route planning is also very fast. Also, if you don't follow the turns that Co-Pilot suggests, it will very quickly re-plan a route for you.
Co-Pilot Live8 cost me €29.99 (£25) from the UK Co-Pilot site, which is amazingly cheap. For Co-Pilot 7 from the Germany site it would have cost me €70!! So if you are looking for a good, working, legal (NOT WAREZ!!) navi software then it would be worth taking a look at http://www.alk.eu.com/copilot/
I have this running on my Diamond 2. Works in Portrait and Landscape modes. I am very happy with it and would recommend anyone to at least have a look at the website I mentioned above. Sadly there is no trial version, which is offered by some other navi firms, such as Navigon (30 day trial of their latest software!!).

Yes but how did you download it? I got sent the link to the site, but when I put the required details in it just keeps bouncing saying incorrect information - even though I'm using the exact same details they sent to me in their order confirmation!
Do you have a different URL to the one they sent in the email?
Guys, the version 7 software for the TD2 is the same in data and functionality as the new version 8

I have both the TD2-specific flavour of v7 CoPilot as well as version 8 in front of me.
Sure they have changed the menu slightly on v8, but TD2-version7 has all the same functions - local search, live weather, etc.. Also the TD2v7 maps I downloaded are same as the v8 maps.
Unless different country versions are different?... Who knows.
can someone upload the cab file from the 2577 folder ? would be fun to see what happens if i installed it.

Finally got it. Wasn't entering the wrong info, just that their server was knackered / slow / down. After 20 mins of going in and trying again every couple of minutes, hey presto it actually connected and allowed the download!
Was talking to my friend at ALK who said they have been caught a bit short due to the shear popularity of their iPhone and Android releases - proving hugely popular, especially at the current price.
Co-Pilot 8
Abosolute bargain, just got it for my TD2 £25.99 off ALK website, works great and is slightly better than V7.
Hi
I want to update my Mate 8 to Nougat/Emui 5.0. I have read threads and notice different build numbers but none which are the same as mine. Can anyone recommend how to update without issue? I have tried HiSuite but continues to tell me I am on the current build. I am new to upgrading manually; I appreciate anyone's help. Thanks. Current build NXT-L29C185B190 in USA.

Same boat, but, if from what I understand is correct, that the L29C185B is a middle east/African version, the only way around it would be to order a
prepay sim card from that region, then try it on wi-fi, or blow everything out and update it with a different build.
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think the Mate 8 was "officially" released in the USA, but, some of the other versions will work in the USA if the device
is not sim locked, which mine and apparently yours is.
I'm looking into a simple 1,2,3 step procedure, but haven't found one. It's been over 5 years since I was active in flashing.
My old Note1 was pretty stable, then my Mate2 was so stable, I didn't bother updating it, and it's been the same with the Mate8.
Can I live without 7, yes, but I'd like to have the option at some point.

You can debrand to C636 or C432 and use everything as you use on C185, if nougat is so important for you, then.

I ran 4.3JB for a LONG time on my Mate2, until they came out with 5.1LL
Wait, they will roll out better firmware to all
OTA update in USA?
My Mate 8 is model L29C185B162, so it's also the Africa/Middle East version, and I'm in the USA.
I'd rather not deal with a manual update. Is it possible to get an over-the-air update to EMUI 5/Nougat for this phone? Do I need to insert an Israeli or South African SIM card to get this to work? If so, any tips on the best way to get one?
I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
I'm in China, and am getting a 7 Pro, but they don't have the global firmware for sale.
Is it possible to flash the Chinese phone with the global firmware?
If so, how?
Out of curiosity, isn't that illegal as a Chinese citizen?

If nothing changes from previous generations:
Download OOS, full ROM, not OTA file
Put the zip file in internal storage (/sdcard aka. /storage/emulated/0)
Settings - System - System updates - Gear icon on top right corner - Local upgrade
Factory reset if GApps FC
They made it so H2OS and OOS can be easily converted, so it doesn't make sense if they changed the policy.

That's correct, no need to unlock bl or anything.
I'm not sure how their warranty works overseas (but I assume no cover). If you have enough time in China, you can try to flash it and, if anything goes wrong, mail the device back so they can get it fixed, should be with no charge.
The availability is more a problem, I've heard something like, you need a voucher code in order to purchase (sometimes there's no inventory even with the code), or you need to wait for a certain time period. The CEO says they've started sending some inventory for foreign countries back to mainland China, so things could get better over time.
BTW they didn't seem to expect the 12G variant to be this popular (in fact I was talking to my friend during the announcement, saying 8G is more than enough, who needs 12G; then in the end I was like, screw it, I'll buy the 12G )

I feel an itch to order a Mate 30 Pro from China, partly as a nod to way back when I ordered my first XDA phone from Hong Kong 15 years ago and became a member of this forum! But I must have a phone that I can use with Google pay and banking apps, which means that it has to work with Magisk or similar hidden root, like my current S9 does. So can anybody tell me if that is actually possible? I found it for £800 from China, with 3-4 days delivery, so I could have it by the weekend if that actually works.

First off all, Huawei isn't giving anymore unlock bootloader codes, you will have to pay ~200$ to Funky Huawei in order to get one (and don't know how and if will work).
We can't atm (or at least we didn't test it because of lack of developers) root on EMUI 10. And as i've read and know, on Chinese version you can't use Google, even if you sideload apps, as is written in this threads, it won't work.
So, short story is : if you really want root, go for other OEM (Pixel, Samsung, Xiaomi, etc). If you can skip root and want Mate 30 Pro to use with Google apps, go for an European version, LIO-L29 :highfive:

They stopped giving unlock bootloader codes 2 years ago, so only way is to pay @200$ (not tested yet method, only available few days ago) for Funky Huawey, but there is no TWRP, no way of extracting boot.img or recovery.img + kernel.img from EMUI 10 UPDATE. APP file so can be rooted using Magisk....

hello,
yesterday i purchased S20 SM-G980F/DS on a local facebook marketplace from what seemed to be a reputable seller based on his FB profile. We met and he showed me the phone and i had forgotton my sim card removal tool so was unable to put the sim in straight away however the phone was booted up and looked good. It was my fault i should have check but after we made the deal i found a pin and put my sims in. One 3 ireland and the other VF ireland. It took ages for the sims to register on the network and call setup and quality was awful, I kept dropping calls.. At this point i was home and attempted to contact the seller as i suspected something was wrong and then realised he blocked me on both Facebook and the phone number was switched off. I contacted Samsung Ireland and they had a quick look and told me the phone is actually panamanian !! and it could be region locked!! I have began trying to change the CSC code using the *#272*IMEI# but the dialler doesn't let me into any menu to select an Irish network. I'm not even sure this is the issue with the phone and i'm hoping that any experts on here may be able to help better than Samsung who were of no help at all. Thanks in advance
