Pixel XL power off by its own and won't turn on - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hi Guys,
I need help here. I can't send the phone back for warranty because I've imported it from else where. Also I didnt root it or install any mods or whatsoever. Running 7.1.2
I was just surfing the net, nothing fancy was loaded. It was in battery saver mode which means it should be in the range of 20ish% when all of a sudden it just shut down. Thinking it was perhaps low on battery and it shut down by itself I put it to charge, but there was no indication that it was charging.
I tried turning it on by holding on to the power button for almost a minute and nothing happens even when I waited for 10 mins and try again.
So i tried going to recovery mode but pressing power and vol. down button, after waiting for almost a minute there was a short vibration and thats it. And if I continue holding on to it, there was 5-6 short vibrations.
Is there anyone who can help me on this?
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply!
Is there anything I can do about it? What about the vibrations I get when I hold the vol down and power button does it mean anything?

Maybe test the charger on a different device to be certain there is power going to the phone. Then leave it plugged in, walk away for 1 hour. Come back and try again... I've had devices seem to be completely dead because there was literally nothing in the battery. Plugged them in for a while, came back, worked like a charm. Of course this might be a long shot. Still worth a try. Good luck!

Tak the battery Out.
Rub the (+ & -) Polaris on your hair or a carpet (so it gets an electric energy) for 30 seconds.
Now place your tongue on tye polarises if you fell an electric shocked your thongue that means battery works fine.
Or else Its A problem in the battery

Doesn't seem to work.. Any more ideas?

Couple months back my pixel turned off while using it and called support, they replaced it under warranty. I never found out why it went dead. I know this don't help..

Just a quick update. I found a phone repair company whom were willing and is able to try repair my phone.
Will be back to post their findings if they are indeed able to do it.

Did you ever get this issue sorted?
I have the exact same problem.

I turn on MT4GS all buttons light up, no screen functionality at all... tried battery pull and w/ out sim card and/or sd card... I'm currently using Bulletproof and never had any issues prior have had bullet proof for a month... I'm s-off if I remember correctly.

How do I go about doing that again? Is it camera + power or volume down + power?
Thanks
volume down first then while holding it hold power
pull battery, put it back in, and then hold power + volume until you get a white screen. It could also be your flex cable going bad though.

Just tried it 3 times, the red light in the trackpad goes on, no other feedback from the phone! Buttons or screen or anything!
Any other ideas and where would i go to get something like a flex cable checked or even buy?

...as he is quick to point out, and i'll admit as he did indirectly, we've been there before, and that's what it sounds like.
I definitely a few times now have thought my device was broken, but I have a couple of different batteries laying around and swapping out always solves this - the first time this happened to me was before we had S-OFF, and it's never happened on my anker battery ... only the stock ones.
( I haven't been keeping track of if it's the same stock battery or both of the ones I have - it happens so infrequently)
Given how it's caught me by surprise once, I might be willing to blame this particular hiccup on the battery, but again, it happens so infrequently - 3 times for me since the beginning of August, so it's hard to tell for sure.
Whatever it is, despite my hunches of the battery culprit, it's certainly not a function of rooting or anything about that since it happened to me before we had that.
2 of the times it was letting the battery run out while sleeping, the first time it happened I was around 20% left. Turned the screen off, wasn't doing anything with it, got a shower, and when I came back it was like this.
I got pretty frustrated and worried, I didn't want to take it back to the store for a different one, so I plugged it in and went over to a friends house. When I came back it worked fine, so I chalked it up to a dead battery, maybe it wasn't reading the percentage right or something.
Dunno, some thoughts...

Thanks, so much I'll try a alternative battery... might have to buy one from ebay... any suggestions? The Red Trackpad light doesn't turn off at all when I try volume down and power just sits there!? Strange I've tried charging it now with no apparent luck I'm praying it's a battery issue! The orange light flashes a few times now when charging then hits solid green when done?
So lost again any thoughts greatly appreciated!
Not sure then - sounds like you should have gotten enough juice to get past it being what we were talking about.
Doesn't mean it isn't a battery issue, but can't say for sure?
Dunno, i'll be turning it over in my head and if I think of something i'll drop it here.
Any word on this?
I was trying to Juopunutbear S-off my phone last nite, when it took me a little time to get the wire trick rite and now my phone is dead. Only the trackpad light stays on and I don't know if that means its out of juice or its bricked. and since the orange led doesnt turn on; I don't know if its charging or not since it won't turn on at all.
Try unplugging it taking the battery out, put it back in 10 seconds later, and plug in the power again. Hold down the volume button and press the power button, see if you can get to recovery from hboot. If you can, you probably aren't completely screwed.

Thanks anitgandhi for your response. I went thru the procedure and nothing came up on the screen. the screen is still blank. All I see is the red light on the trackpad. I'm not sure if the battery is dead or the phone is bricked!!
This is just a shot in the dark but try plugging it into your computer, see if it recognizes it.
Honestly I'm not too familiar with juopounutbear s-off cuz I have revolutionary, but given the whole wire trick thing, I think bricks can happen easily if you're not extremely careful

Maybe someone with more experience in this type of thing will chime in but I DO know that if your battery goes dead when working at the levels that juopounutbear takes you down to it is very likely you have a brick. The same holds true for flashing most anything except for just the most minor things. You should ALWAYS have at the very LEAST a 50% charge on your phone before you attempt anything other than just using it.
The constant dim red light on the trackpad is NOT a good sign.
When you plug it in, check device manager for qload USB

Thanks guys for your responses. Tried plugging it into the computer, computer doesnt see anything, no qload or anything. I had a full charge on the phone before the wire trick, so a dead battery is just a guess. I didnt learn abt revolutionary until after the brick! lol
I did try this too just in case, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27797058&postcount=18
and there was no response.
Should I find an external charger and try to charge the battery?
If you know someone with a Sensation and if you can borrow their charged battery for a minute you can find out pretty quick.

Am I Screwed??? Please help.

I am running CleanROM 2.1 with the CleanKERNEL and AOSP Blue Mod Theme on my GS3. It is overclocked to 1.70Ghz .It has been working great for the past 3 days or so I have had it set up like this. I took the OTA before re-rooting and reunlocking and before ever putting any ROMs on the phone. I had the phone on my car charger on my way to work this morning, after draining a bunch of battry streaming F1 practice. When I got to work, I pull the phone off the charger and we inside. When I went to check my phone, it was black. And still is. The phone was working fine while on the charger, but now I can not get it to respond to anything. I have tried to reboot, reboot to recovery, pull the battery, and have it plugged in. The only thing happening is the phone becomes warm while plugged in.
I have no flashed anything for 3 days or so. I don't know what could have happened. Any thoughts?? Please help. I am kinda freaking out right now.

This happened to me a few times but with a slightly different scenario. If i tried to power up my phone, it would give a brief vibration and then show me a battery sign with a big 0 on it (green battery image). No matter what i did it wont boot up. And my battery wasn't at 0% when it happened. I was able to get into recovery and restore a backup.
In your case, check if there is any power in your battery (or borrow someone's who has an s3) and see if you are able to boot into recovery.
Hope you are able to fix it. Good Luck.

Then it might be your battery as the other person mentioned. The bettery is either bad or the device is not charging it. Have you tired different chargers as well? It can even be your charging port...
Odin mode and recovery have nothing to do with your ROM when you boot into them. If you boot into that, it boots before loading your Rom.
Go to the Verizon store and just ask if you can try their battery from the demo unti or something if you do not know anyone else with an S3.

There is guy coming in later today with a GS3, I will try his battery when he gets here. I know I was at 99% battery when I pulled it off my car charger. But, I suppose it is possible the battery is fried.
My bet is battery. Put it on the charger for 10 minutes.

Don't want to sound like a broken record, but have you tried keeping your power button pressed for 5-10 seconds? Its weird but the brief vibration I got in my case was when I had it pressed for a good 5-7 seconds and then nothing would happen. Just checking if you have the same symptoms.

Yeah, I have held it for 1 minute+. I am really lost on what could have caused this. It seems to me, and my uneducated mind, it may be a hardware issue. I just don't know what or why.
I just got home from work, still with no luck. I guess if I can't get life into it, Verizon can't either?

This is kinda where I am at. I feel like it is a hardware problem more then a software problem aka not my fault.
So what was the final outcome on this?
This happened to me a few weeks ago. I had my GS3 for about a month. Everything was stock. Never rooted or unlocked.
Its a hardware issue.
If you return your phone to Verizon they will give you a refurb.
I believe the phone gets sent to Verizon not Samsung. Since I wasn't rooted it didn't matter for me, but since you can't even boot into ODIN at the store they won't be able to tell that your phone is rooted so they will order you a refurb straight away.
Its possible that when it gets to the Verizon testing facility they will discover that its been rooted and expect you to pay full price for the replacement. I have no idea.
Good Luck
Sorry for not updating. I ended up getting a replacement phone from Verizon. Looks like some other people are running into the same problem.

Cannot start or power on

Something really strange happened.
Yesterday, when i was using my tf700, everything was fine. i connected the tf700 to my computer and dragged couple movies in to watch later. Batter was around 30% so i plugged into a wall charge to charge so i can use later. after half an hour, went back and tried using it. it won't turn on! tried connecting it to my computer, my computer can't recognize it. Tried connecting to the wall charge, the charge light didn't turn orange. Tried using my tf300 cable to see if it's cable issue, still no luck. Tried using reset button on top of HDMI port, no luck. Tried volume down or volume up plus power to reboot, no luck. I think it's dead....Only had it for a year..
Worst of all, it's unlocked, rooted to a custom ROM. So no warranty. I tried googling and searching on XDA, not that many people encountered this issue. Any luck on saving it?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!!

It looks like your battery on your device totally drain and either your charger or cable or your tab connector is bad so your device can't be charged. If you can narrow down the issue, then you can get helps faster.. Good luck...:fingers-crossed:

You could give this a shot...
Hold both power button + volume up for about 10 seconds. You should feel a first vibration and continue holding them until you feel the second vibration. As soon as you feel the second vibration, you need to release the volume up button and keep holding the power button until you feel the third vibration and release the power button.. At this point, your device should boot into your system..
You may want to try a few times for it to work..good luck and please report back..:fingers-crossed:

Yeah I've tried that and the reset button, but get no vibrations. I guess I'll wait for the battery to full discharge again and then see if it will work. Otherwise I guess I'm SOL. No idea what happened.
I tried letting it sit unplugged for a couple of days to completely discharge the battery and then plugged it in to let it charge. No lights, no vibrations• nothing. I'm giving up ans just ordered a Samsung Note Tablet 10.1 2014 Edition, 32GB. When I get it I'll root it so I can use Titanium Backup to restore my data files. I never planned on this tablet just dying like this. It's only a little over a year old. I was thinking of upgrading to Asus's new TF701 but I'm done with them.
Good luck with yours. Hope it springs to life for you.

This is by far the worst Asus experience i ever had. I used to buy their products quite a bit, and i am completely disappointed in their products now. They create a tablet so slow that is almost usable so many users to need unlock and install custom ROMs. Therefore, void the warranty. Then provide such bad quality that it fails not even after 1 full year. (1 week till a year) Then is going to charge me $300 to have them fix it. I can buy a new one for that price.
Anybody out there as frustrated with Asus products as I am?

So...How did I brick my N5?

I am not inexperienced when it comes to ROMs, rooting, flashing, etc. Been doing it since my Droid X, X2, Gnex and now n5.
So pretty much I installed purity ROM and franco kernel. I was really tired when I was flashing it last night so as soon as I saw it boot up I let myself fall asleep. The last thing I saw was the setup screen asking me what language to select. I woke up this morning and tried to turn the screen on. nothing. held the power button for 10+ seconds then tried to boot again. Nothing. FYI the phone was fully charged last I saw. I have the heat on so it's kind of warm inside. I left it outside on the patio for about 20 minutes to cool down. Still gets nothing. No response what so ever. No vibration, the backlight of the display doesn't come on....nothing. I tried plugging it in the charger, nothing. The battery icon doesn't show up. The backlight doesn't come on. I left it on the charger for about 20+ minutes. Nothing. Plugging it into my computer does absolutely nothing. It doesn't show ANYTHING connected AT ALL. So no fastboot no adb (cant even get to recovery or bootloader) odin is out too. Literally 100% unresponsive.
Didn't think you could do that to a nexus honestly. Especially after all the hackery I did on the GNex. I didn't even do anything funny. Just flashed Purity + Franco (r14) I was waiting on r15.
Try charging it for a few hours (overnight).
I've seen this happen to a lot of people in the nexus 4 section.

Doesn't sound like it had anything to do with flashing anything, especially since you saw it go tot he language screen.
You've tried holding the volume keys while turning it on?
I honestly may have just been a faulty battery in the device. ran out of juice fast and now won't charge or power it.
I'd still try more holding power button remedies, etc.
Not sure that Odin would have ever helped you anyways considering this is not a Samsung phone.
Worst case RMA it through Google..

Try charging it for a few hours (overnight).
I've seen this happen to a lot of people in the nexus 4 section.

It was fully charged when it booted before I fell asleep. I will leave it on the charger though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, tried every button combo. True about odin, just making a point that a computer and fastboot/adb/toolkits would not work.

Yep its happened a few times with people with the nexus 4 too. The battery is at a decently high charge and suddenly it acts as if the battery is dead.
I have seen people fix it by charging the phone for a few hours though. Do you get an LED light when its plugged into the wall charger?

Absolutely nothing. Completely 100% unresponsive. I think it's done for.
Edit: Purchased from T-Mobile, not Google directly. I pay for insurance on the device. Stinks, but I think I'm going to have to file an insurance claim
Why do insurance when you can just do warranty claim at the store? Just take it back to them (especially since it hasn't been 30 days yet) and replace the device.
Did you try plugging it into a car charger in your car?
For some reason that sometimes works. I don't know why, maybe higher amperage or something.
You should try it!
This happened with my Nexus 4, All I did was leave it charging and that worked after quite a bit. At the time I re flashed it back to stock, not sure if it helped or not but I never had the issue again.
OP, have you solve your problem? my nexus 5 just dead when I rebooted my phone. now, i does not have any idea to turn it back on again.

before reboot, i'm flashing the new bootloader and radio that come with 4.4.1.. i got those two zip somewhere in the xda. but i think there is no problem with twrp. now I cant go into fastboot mode or recovery mode. there is no response when pressing the power button + volume button.

Nexus 5 won't start, noise while charging

Hi guys, first of all I want to apologize if my english is not that good, you see, here in Argentina we speak spanish.
That being said, let me tell what's my problem:
I bought in Spain 2 weeks ago a brand new Nexus 5, that arrived yesterday. It was working just fine, I waited till the battery dropped to 0%, then charged to 100% and everything seemed to be working just fine.
That same night, I had the battery half charged and I left it charging the whole night, as I always do on any phone.
Today, when I woke up, the phone was really, really hot, and I wasn't able to turn it on.
I cooled it down, tried many combinations for many minutes of volumes up + down + power, or only just one volume and the power, etc, but nothing worked.
Now, when I plug it, the plug makes this weird ticking noise (quite rithmic I have to say), and of course, nothing appears on the screen. Yes I have tried to use another plug, to the wall and to the computer, but nothing is working.
What should I do?
Try holding down the power button for 30 seconds and see if itll boot up.

Well, I tried it already, but nothing.
Are you using the LG charger that came with the phone? And do you see the white battery icon on screen when you plug it in?

Yes, I use it, and no, I do not see it.
Yet, the phone, turned off and everything (while unplugged), its temperature went high again, that was weird.
I hate to say it, but it seems like faulty hardware. I'd send it back for replacement.
Really? Nobody can help me? I'm quite desperate

Looks like PMIC got toasted by broken charger. Don't know if it can be repaired, but if you have warranty you can return phone.
