NFC use as my key card? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Would it be possible to set this up in some way? I have (I believe) an RFID card to get into the building at work. If I can do this using my phone, I could get away with not even taking my wallet to work, or at least thinning it considerably. Sciatica is making it really hard to sit on a wallet anymore

You inset the key in the case. Presto.

I tried one of the cases with card slots, but it's just too thick. About the thickness of 3 to 4 regular cards

Not possible, those cards are encrypted using one of several proprietary methods.

I figured as much. It was worth a shot, at least

RFID is also different from NFC.

While true the phone should be capable of both. Just splitting hairs though.
Back to the original topic, just squeeze the card in between the case and phone and you should be good. Only downside is Samsung Pay may not work as well if it somehow interferes.

I tried squeezing it into my v20 cases and it caused 2 to break and split. I'll end up figuring out something

My non-elegant solution:

You can get the stand without the USB hub portion for < $5.
Does the N4 actually fit? The Nexus One had a special docking port or something, right?

Pretty sure it's just a sticky pad you set the phone on.
Is that even an actual official Google store?

Haha, I see it now. I was just confused cause it said mobile phone charger
Not sure if I can trust this store or not. There are two different sites. I googled the, the one you posted (googlestore, com) and another one (google-store.com) came up. In the search results, the later was listed as official. Both sites have the same basic layout, but they don't all have the same products. The first site has more products listed. The second one has both dollar and euro prices listed. It just seems odd that google would have 2 different online stores.

Now that I have my Orb... what do I do with my pad?

No... It is sitting on the pad. I mounted the pad on a RAM mount diamond plate using 3M double sided adhesive tape. I then used some low compression, rubber weather stripping to form the "U" to cradle the phone. Fits like a glove and works perfect.
Total cost... 3 bucks (I already had the RAM hardware), a trip to Home Depot, and about a half hour of my time.
Looking at the pic, it's hard to tell if the power button is covered or not. If not, it looks good. Just get a nfc tag and setup everything. If it is, wouldn't it be more of a pain to get access for waking the phone up?
Just curious but excellent innovation.

The "U" comes up to just 1/4 inch below the power button, and that same clearance for the volume rocker.
I actually use a Tasker location profile so no nfc tag necessary.
Took it for its first extended test drive yesterday and it works well. Phone is very secure, and easily removed and replaced with one hand.

You have to complete with the www in he beginning of the url... i'm allowed to post outside links..
From past experience, I would recommend the Tunebelt armband. I have not bought one for the Nexus 4 yet but I will soon. I had a Tunebelt for my Samsung Galaxy S(original) and I was able to use it with my HTC One X, a tight fit without a case, but it worked. They are very comfortable and have a considerable amount of stretch to them. You may be able to get one of the ones designed for a larger phone if you plan on using a case with the Nexus 4. Make sure you measure your arm to see if you need the extender which is sold separately.

Not sure but a lot of Amazon reviews indicate that it tends to produce micro scratches, so I would weary about buying this.

Well, its not a fine tip writing one, but I use an ampen stylus for my stuff.
That's not a fine tipped stylus, there's actually a small disc on the end of it. The tip is just a ball and the disc has a socket that allows for the capacitive screen to work. I have had a mini and a pro since the transformer tf101 and I've never had a single scratch, just wipe the disc with your finger before you start using it.

I had the Jot Pro stored in some drawer in my home , so after digging and finally finding it, for the 'sake of science' I decided to take one for the team and be the Guinea pig in testing it with my Nexus 9.
I'm happy to report that the little disc on this stylus against the Gorilla-3 glass does not seem to affect in any way the surface, and I was surprised to find this tablet to be much more responsive to this particular stylus than my previous Nexus 7 tablets (both versions). Granted, I've in using this stylus only for a few minutes but results seem to remain the same over extended usage. :fingers-crossed:
DISCLAIMER: the report of this is based on pure anecdotic experience so use this as you see fit and with caution as I can't and won't be liable for any damage resulting from your own experience.

Running Armbands?

Anyone find a good running armband for the G5. Something that doesn't move around a lot, since the G5 is kinda big. I bought one off Amazon (Joto) and it was too small.

I've always been weary of those ones that have a band that loops through. It seems like it would be wobbly. Is that not the case?

It depends on the side of your limb. Someone with thinner arms or legs would had a wobble side to side. The pouch type ones do have more stability in that sense.
There are a couple pros to this type of armband. The phone cover can be used as a regular case. I can also use any length band that can fit in the slots.
