Spotify - bluetooth not connected.. - Samsung Gear S3

So I just reinstalled a stock rom back on my nexus 6p just to get the samsung pay working again and started tinkering with Spotify (I have the premium version) app. now I can't seem to get it to connect to my phone. blue tooth model. All searches really doesn't provide any result or not any real ones. anyone out there know of a solution? was there an update that just blew this up?
US location.
blue tooth works on everything else. just not spotify apparently.
TIA

Re-install spotify on the gear... happened to me as well.

many times...

I have this problem too kind of.. When I open the Spotify app on the Gear, it keeps telling me to connect bluetooth or something like that.
The thing is.. when I play music on my phone through Spotify, if I turn the dial on the Gear to the stock music player, it actually shows the Spotify information, and I'm able to control the Spotify music from there (play, pause, next, previous, etc...).
Hopefully you will have some success!

this doesn't work for offline music. anyone?

The way I got Spotify to work was to connect to WiFi manually. It seems to want to stream over WiFi but send commands over BlueTooth.

Bluetooth since 2.3

Since the update, my Inspire locks up upon first use after connecting to my car. Reboots, then its ok. Anyone else experience anything like this and have any tips to correct it?
stupid thanks button.....
i havent had any problems with 2.3 and bluetooth. mine doesnt lock up when it connects to my car
Same
I have to force stop the Music app (poweramp). tried factory reset but no real difference. Also on the sony mex bt3800 I have, it will display icons for streaming and calls, well sometimes (of course) only one of those will turn on. Re-paired still doing it. grrrr.

I have the Mex-bt2800. You can turn the music streaming on by pressing the pause/play button when it's it bluetooth audio mode.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using the power of the dark side
Yeah, you'd like to think so, hit the arrow for play on poweramp right?
Well not quite as, if you start the car first then switch bluetooth on (you know powersaving) the message will display that the headset connected message then on the stereo , mostly, only the icon for media streaming will appear and the only reliable way to have both streaming and calls is to switch off bluetooth on the car stereo then switching it on again.
Froyo connected all time without issue and so did the 3GS i had previously.
The poweramp issue came about if you already had music playing through the internal speaker, started bluetooth, (you get the streaming media Icon on stereo) , then there would be no sound and poweramp would act if it had paused but no other button would work until it had been force stop. have only found time for a liittle bit of testing so can't tell much more about symptoms.
any other suggestions welcome
Hey there, I haven't had any issues with my BT either. I've used Ninja, Gingerbeast, and ARHD. I'm using it with the mex-bt3900 (i think thats right). i use it with the htc music app, google music app, pandora, and winamp. i havent had any lockups or anything on my end. what rom are you using? stock rom?

Still stock. Might root and see if those other roms make a difference. Saw comment on ace root kit thread about something new coming out on that so may put up it until what ever it is announced. Be nice to get rid of the att bloat too.

[Q] Play Music + Bluetooth = Autoplay?

I'm not sure whether or not this has to do with the rom I am using (Tweaked 3.1) but i've noticed that every single time i'm in my car and turn on the bluetooth...my music just starts automatically playing from Play Music. It was opened in the background or anything either...as soon as bluetooth gets turned on it just starts which is really annoying if actually want to talk to people with my phone...I looked through all the settings for play music, bluetooth, android, tweaked and everywhere on my phone but couldnt figure out for the life of me how to disable that from happening. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

do you want it NOT play at all, or just not autoplay? there is a setting within the bluetooth menu to disable media connection.
are you using an app for your bluetooth connection? for example, I use vlingo, and each time my phone connects via bluetooth, that app is set by default to launch.
Just dont want it to automatically start playing when I turn on bluetooth. I use HeyTell a lot for talking to people so id rather manually open Play Music and start playing songs myself if so desire later on. I figured there has to be an autostart option somewhere but i cant find it. I actually also cannot find that setting to disable the media connection in a bluetooth menu...where might that be?
Not using an app for bluetooth, just turning it on through the settings in Android on my Charge. Not sure if it makes a difference that im rooted using Tweaked 3.1?

first, I would try clearing defaults in Play Music.
secondly, to adjust the media output, once you have a bluetooth connection, go into your bluetooth settings and long press your paired device - then select options - from there you can adjust the media connection.
as for me, I leave BT on all the time (doesn't cause significant battery drain while being on an unpaired in my experience).
Cleared the defaults in Play Music and checked the settings when i long pressed on my paired Mazda. I tried just turning off the media connection but then I couldnt do the other things I wanted. I didnt see any other settings for it either anywhere. I'm wondering if it has to do with my Mazda auto starting the music maybe? Or is that not possible... I suppose I can just try leaving bluetooth on if theres not going to be much battery drain...but lately ive experiencing lots of battery drain about 6-7% an hour without me even touching it.

What about the in-car app? Otherwise, try downloading a Bluetooth app like vlingo (free). And then see what happens when the phone makes the connection to your car. You should get one of those default app menus.
tappin' that....
Cool I will give that a try, thanks for the help!

[Q] Audio Pause when connecting to WiFi

I've got a weird problem with my Nexus 5.
When I listen to audio (typically with BeyondPod, but also with Google Play Music and ES Media Player) the audio sometimes pauses.
After a while I have noticed a pattern. It appears that the playback pauses when the device connects to / disconnects from a WiFi network.
I have also occasionally experienced it with WiFi switched off. I haven't analysed in detail when it happens, but it appears to happen when GSM connection is acquired / lost.
Is this a 'known problem'?
Is there any known workaround?
I get this with streaming app Spotify.
I've put it down to a kernel issue, I'm using Franco kernel and some other users have mentioned it also
Used to have this problem with the Franco kernel as well. Don't have the problem anymore now, but can't explain why.
If you are streaming, then of course changes in connectivity will result in an interruption, no? I assume the problem does not occur when playing music located on the device?

True! But I should have been more specific.
This is happening when listening to music offline so they are local files.
I read an idea that the phone prioritises the switch from WiFi to Data (this is the only time when my stutter occurs, leaving the house and coming back) and so music playback stutters very briefly as a result.

Ah, that's why I asked. I seem to remember reading somewhere that when playing music with Google Play Music, the app requires connectivity even when playing local files. If that is indeed the case, then connecting/disconnecting could cause the interruption. So, I suppose the next step would be to test with a music player.
Further clarifiaction
Just to clarify further:
What I'm experiencing is not a 'stutter', but a pause. - I have to manually restart the playback.
I only listen to 'local' media - not streamed. I don't know how it reacts when streaming.
I'm using stock 4.4.2 (rooted).

As I drift out of WiFi range and into data my streaming music doesn't pause. The song loads at the beginning I assume and ends up seamless during the network transfer.

You're probably right - it must at least buffer ahead.
I am having the exact same problem as the OP. I get pauses whenever my Nexus 5 goes from wi-fi to cellular, cellular to no signal, etc. It happens with many different apps like Pocket Casts, Google Play Music, DoggCatcher, Poweramp, both streaming and local file playback. Drives me nuts, especially when I am in the car. Used to happen with my Nexus 4 too.
The ONLY fix I have come up with (I am completely stock/un-rooted) is to download podcasts or playlists and play in Airplane Mode. This completely fixes the issue, but is not practical as I have to stay offline whilst listening to audio.
Also worth noting, it doesn't happen when I am playing local video files, e.g. a video podcast. If there is anyone that can help please do as at this rate I am going to have to start carrying an iPod touch around, and I have enough gadgetry already.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one experiencing this. My guess is that there must be some app that receives a notification when the connectivity changes, and for some reason pauses playback. Maybe if we can cross-reference installed apps we could find the offender?
Is there an easy way to see what apps are installed?

I used to use Tasker, but I don't any more.
I tried to use 'Autorun Manager' to see what intents are captured and by whom, but I quickly got lost...
No audio skipping/stutter when using Spotify offline mode after turning airplane mode on.
Suddenly the problem disappeared!
I was clearing out a bunch of games that the kids had installed, and then I realised that the problem was gone!
I haven't done any serious analysis to pinpoint the culprit yet, though.

I may have to try to analyse it again, as the problem reappeared suddenly this morning! I haven't installed any new software for weeks, but it could of course be part of some update.

Bluetooth Car Connection Spotify problem

Hi folks,
I got this new phone and I have a question regarding Bluetooth and Spotify. With my old smartphones(ZUK Z2 Pro or Samsung S7) connecting Spotify through Bluetooth, I can change songs/volumes on my car dash entertainment system. But with this smartphone I can not. Only thing shown is "Sony XZ Premium", which is the name of the device.
Do I need special configurations for this phone to get it work with the dash system?
Yours
I laso tested other apps like vlc etc. and none of them are controlable with the wheel controls or the car system. Seems to be a bug....
I don't have an issue with music control via my car to Deezer.
There is an general issue with bluetooth in Android 7.1.1 version. I have a problem with song information not being updated, however my car controls works, for most of the time. It seems like this problem is not present in newer cars/radios.
Yeah, I tried today also other apps like VLC/Deezer/Music app and all of them have this bug. I hope there is a fix soon. It is really annoying while driving that I can not change a song I don't want to listen to. I contaced also Sony Xperia Care, but they wanted to tell me it the car which is defective and not the smartphone...
sorry to go off on a tangent, but have you got deezer to work? I cannot for the life of me get deezer to work for me. Can you let me know what settings you are using, eg cache, etc... I have a support call open with deezer, even trying their beta but app just does not work - does not play anything...
Yeah I'm having this issue with Google Play music. Guessing it's a Bluetooth 5 codec.
Reported on Sony's forums as well,
Fingers crossed for a fix

I have the same problem, Spotify will not update the track information on what's playing. I hope there is a fix for it soon, kinda annoying. That and the wifi issues. Lucky I have unlimited data.
Mine just connected like normal. Seems like it sounds better than my last phone also. I did have a problem where it kinda froze the Bluetooth on my receiver and had to restart that. My receiver is pretty old though. Spotify working fine with it but with your same issue
Same issue with a mini cooper s 2017. I'm able to connect to the car for phone calls and contact sharing but unable to play any music via bluetooth. It seems that the phone shows as connected but the car just says as connecting. I really hope this issue is fixed soon.

Well Minis are technically BMWs so I guess the bluetooth interface is the same.
I managed to stream audio to my friend's Chevy Cruize but without the streering wheel controls (skip, vol up/down).=
Try pairing again and update your iDrive system (ask your dealership for more info about that)

Spoke to Sony who refuse to believe their device is a fault.. No plans to release any software tweaks till Android P apparently.

After messing around with settings and bluetooth I was able to achieve a connection to media audio. If you have Google Play Music installed, that is part of the bluetooth culprit.
1. Force stop Google Play Music under app settings.
2. Turn off bluetooth.
3. Toggle bluetooth back on, and under BMW/Mini go to the media menu and select your phone, after a few seconds you should be able to achieve a bluetooth media connection and you can run Google Play Music again.
I'm not sure if this can fix the spotify issue, but I was able to get my Google Play Music to work via bluetooth on my Mini, it is kind of annoying having to do all those steps anytime I get off the car, but then again, my drives are usually pretty long so I don't mind doing it at least a couple times a day.
Let me know if that worked for you.

Cannot control music on phone from Watch App

Hi All,
For the life of me i cannot get this working.
So basically i want to control tracks etc from the Gear S3 watch app, i have confirmed i have changed the app to look at phone and not locally.
It shows the current playing track artwork but is always stuck on "Play" symbol, and clicking pause, skip, achieves nothing.
It just tells me to play song on phone (even though i am)
I get the same issue no matter what app i use on the phone (poweramp, samsung, google music etc)
I have forced closed the music app from the phone, its never worked, any ideas?
I am using Apple airpods as my bluetooth headphones
I have the same exact issue, using the Wi-Fi model on a Note 8. I see the content playing on my watch (YouTube Chromecast and other videos), the titles are correct, but when I press Play, Skip or Rewind, NOTHING happens! I miss this feature from Android Wear so much!
Did you ever find a solution to this or does ANYONE know how to fix this issue please? Thank you!
OK, maybe not a solution, but can anyone confirm they have this issue and it's known?
I can confirm I have the same issue when streaming to my chromecast. I see the content I'm playing but i can't control it (nothing happens when i press the buttons, play, forward, etc...).
I have both Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and Galaxy S7.
Been searching the web but all I see is people who can and cannot do it but I can't find any solutions. I guess it must be a bug since other people claim they can do it.
Please help us!
Ok i found the solution for everyone who has the same problem.
In the Gear Wearables App under "Notfications" and then under "Manage Notifications" i had to enable the music app to send and recieve messages. After that it works perfect.

I have the same issue with my Nokia 6.1 plus. When I play music on phone the background on the watch changes but can't control music through watch.
Talked to Samsung support and they said it is compatibility issue.
I am facing the same problem with my Nokia 8 as well. I'm trying to play music through my watch and it says connect to phone. When I click on connect it says "Couldn't connect. Try again?"
Music controls not working with Nokia
Yep, I have the same issue with my Samsung Galaxy Watch Active and Nokia 8. This is the only real compatibility issue I discovered so far. The Nokia has almost stock Android so I wonder what causes the incompatibility and whether it is likely to be fixed. To my humble opinion the music player is a basic functionality so I hope Samsung or HMD invests in a solution.
Try pairing it through regular Bluetooth settings.

Yesterday I bought an SM-R600 running Tizen 3, the music app worked perfectly with my Nokia 8 on Android 9. Today, I updated to Tizen 4 and the music app stopped working. Is ther any way to downgrade my watch?
the music player app on the watch is broken in my opinion because on my nokia 9 i can use the spotify app fine so the phone and watch are working as they should , so now i just use the watch to control spotify , i use my huawei freelace headphones connected to the phone , i just use the headphones to answer calls and control the music if it isnt spotify lol , android need to learn from apple , the way their stuff works together makes android look like such a bodge job
go into the wear app and forget the watch, repair it and itll very likely work. You can also go into the watch's settings and select connect to a new phone
I’m also having Nokia 6.1 plus and having the same issue also. I can see the music cover but cannot control the music player on my watch. It’s sayin to connect via Bluetooth,I tried and it saying it cannot connect. Anyone any solution
Same problem here! Nokia 8.
