First thing you should learn from XDA is that Samsung does not gives sources

I was reading about twrp and not to swipe to allow modifications without a dm verity kernel?
Can we just flash SuperSU v2.79 on it's own?
Don't most of the custom Roms already have Root or SuperSU built in?
I've been around for a while but running the Note series of Samsung and the S7 seems pretty alien to me at this point - I'll be getting mine in the next few days.... A guide for S7 dummies would be greatly appreciated!
I've read through the different Roms but I'm still feeling a little lost.
Thanks in advance.

Change dpi settings

Hello guys I'd like to introduce myself to this forum xD.. Been around xda since February I think..
Started in the world of android with a galaxy nexus and now own several other devices..
Well my question its simple.. (don't know about the complexity of the answer)
I need to change dpi settings by editing build.prop but I don't know if by doing this the tablet will boot loops or just the nav bar disappear hehehe.. I'm using this tab as my daily driver phone and I'd like to put ics in phone mode...
I have searched but could not find anything useful.. Thanks in advance

Well it depends on what ROM your running. If it's stock ICS then the answer is no, there seems to be some protection there against modifying the build.prop. There's no problem doing with on the stock HC or CM9.

Oh ic.. Seems like I can't find the official cm9 thread... Are we officially supported? I could not find anything on cyanogenmod wiki but p1 p1n p1l wich its the original tab not the plus.. That said would you be so kind on posting the official link in the case we are officially supported..
Other thing it's would it be okay flashing cm9 from cwm.zip (official or unofficial) since I own a galaxy note and doing this (because of the whipping process) the phone gets super bricked...
If so I guess I should flash an hc rooted rom and upgrade to cm9 from there? As we go back to gingerbread in Gnote to be able to wipe and flash any other rom
Thanks in advance

Personally I take the same precautions on my tab as the note, which is to say Odin flash back to gingerbread or in this case honeycomb then full wipe and finally flash cm9. Try aeorth's cm9, I doubt we would ever be officially supported but it's good enough for me.
I have little wifi issues as well as gps issues but nothing I am too overly concerned about.

make sure you have a stock image to reflash should it not work.
also make sure that you use a recovery with the "bricking" problem fixed.
I have flashed cm9 and changed dpi but the nav bar just disappear.. I was about to edit the framework-res.apk in order to be able to get a working multidpi framework but then cm10 aorth came out with cm10 nexus 7 mode so pointless to do so..
Go try cm10 its awesome and everything works... A perfect build..
Posted this just in case someone is looking the same thing I was looking for...

[Q] Mpokang kernel 1080p

When flashing the mpokang 1080p kernel, can you only flash it after youve fully wiped and installed a rom or can i flash it anytime? Using vzw galaxy nexus running a 4.2.2 rom.
Please forgive the noob and possibly repeated question but I could not find the answer.
You can install it anytime, but remember to wipe cache and dalvik after flash the kernel.

Voiding my KNOX

Dear XDA-ers,
I always had a phone running a custom rom and i really enjoyed that. Now this phone haves this stupid KNOX counter.
I am using this phone for a month now and the speed is very decent. But i think that the custom roms are way faster.
How are the custom roms compared to stock?
And is it worth it for voiding my warranty?
Greets.
It really depends how much of a flashaholic you are lol. - Is your KNOX warranty important to you?
The custom ROMS on the N9005 are ALL pretty great, especially in the image department.
----------
A little info around KNOX -
If you trip it, you can never ever reset it. It's looking more and more unlikely as each day passes it cannot be undone.
Nothing *Stops* working if you do trip it, except the actual KNOX secure container for data - Only really applies to businesses though.

Well, i really miss root. Thats a thing i used daily. But i'm thinking. When my phone has problems. And i fully brick the bootloader. they cant see knox right? I'm really thinking about rooting and flashing it. and yes. i'm a flashaholic.
When you go into download mode it shows the Knox void. So it can be seen yes.
However with EU law you can get around getting it fixed etc.
Its near on impossible to brick your device in all honesty (hard brick at least) - so long as you stick to the right ROMs and know the dos and don'ts you'll be OK

Have a look @ the custom builds here on XDA - temasek's build / AOSB / BeanStalk / CarbonROM all superb builds.. I use temasek's build with his custom kernel (which can be used across all CM builds including nightly) - you'll find battery is far better with custom kernel + the custom builds have some nice goodies baked in too.

Will sure do
rooted my phone, installed a custom kernel and supersu
undervolted and underclocked my phone so now my battery life does reach a full day with usage. happy with my phone at last
so for a personal phone, tripping the knox isn't a big deal?

Depends, In the US you can get in trouble with warranty and stuff. Luckily i live in the EU (Netherlands) and i asked my local phone store and they will still give it warranty even when tripped. Since this is described in the law or something.

Working on an AOSP ROM for the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

I have decided to start building my own ROM since there are very few ROMs for this phone as of right now. I have previous ROM building and ROM managing experience from when I had my S5, but I am going to be building an AOSP ROM because I hate Touchwiz with a passion and there is not one out for the S6 yet. I am going to start with Cyanogen Mod and see where I can go with that. Once I get it compiled and able to run, I will upload it. Stay tuned for all of you AOSP lovers!

Yeah I know what you mean. I have college work and I have a job but I will build this ROM in my spare time. I will work on it a little bit tonight.
Following this thread. I am open for testing.
Alright thank you. I have heard that the reason there is not a Cyanogen Mod ROM for the S6 edge is because Samsung isn't giving us the sources to do so. I have been doing further research on this because if they do not give us the sources possible to create the ROM then we have a big problem. I will keep you posted.

U11+ Custom Roms?

I came here today thinking there might be a couple of custom roms.
What a shame there is nothing. Although I got Android Pie recently, and it's pretty good, I really would prefer to have Android 10 running by now, and HTC aint going to do it!
Any chance of anything being ported over from the U11??

Have you tried GSI firmware? Already quite a lot of options are on Android 10.
Did HTC state which phones will get 10? And which GSI images work fine for our U11 +? Is squeeze supported? Thanks!!

I've only just read up about Treble and GSI - This article says HTCU11+ is supported as it launched with Android 8.0. Sounds very interesting. https://www.androidpolice.com/2017/11/26/phones-updated-support-project-treble-continuously-updated/
I'm guessing it would support squeeze as Pixels have it too. Not sure if I'm brave enough to take the plunge yet....
So, still no-one brave enough to try project Treble?
My understanding is that the Vendor part of the firmware is retained, so custom roms with squeeze and other HTC changes should be possible...
Edit - just found the other thread! https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-u11/how-to/resurrection-remix-gsi-test-t3795115/page3
