Voiding my KNOX - Galaxy Note 3 General

Dear XDA-ers,
I always had a phone running a custom rom and i really enjoyed that. Now this phone haves this stupid KNOX counter.
I am using this phone for a month now and the speed is very decent. But i think that the custom roms are way faster.
How are the custom roms compared to stock?
And is it worth it for voiding my warranty?
Greets.

It really depends how much of a flashaholic you are lol. - Is your KNOX warranty important to you?
The custom ROMS on the N9005 are ALL pretty great, especially in the image department.
----------
A little info around KNOX -
If you trip it, you can never ever reset it. It's looking more and more unlikely as each day passes it cannot be undone.
Nothing *Stops* working if you do trip it, except the actual KNOX secure container for data - Only really applies to businesses though.

Well, i really miss root. Thats a thing i used daily. But i'm thinking. When my phone has problems. And i fully brick the bootloader. they cant see knox right? I'm really thinking about rooting and flashing it. and yes. i'm a flashaholic.

When you go into download mode it shows the Knox void. So it can be seen yes.
However with EU law you can get around getting it fixed etc.
Its near on impossible to brick your device in all honesty (hard brick at least) - so long as you stick to the right ROMs and know the dos and don'ts you'll be OK

Have a look @ the custom builds here on XDA - temasek's build / AOSB / BeanStalk / CarbonROM all superb builds.. I use temasek's build with his custom kernel (which can be used across all CM builds including nightly) - you'll find battery is far better with custom kernel + the custom builds have some nice goodies baked in too.

Will sure do

rooted my phone, installed a custom kernel and supersu
undervolted and underclocked my phone so now my battery life does reach a full day with usage. happy with my phone at last

so for a personal phone, tripping the knox isn't a big deal?

Depends, In the US you can get in trouble with warranty and stuff. Luckily i live in the EU (Netherlands) and i asked my local phone store and they will still give it warranty even when tripped. Since this is described in the law or something.

Hey.
I am going for a trip tomorrow, i need good rom for my device .
Samsung Galaxy tab 2, 7" (love this device so much )
I want good rom with: Battery life, gaming performance, smooth UI!
I've tried Sungsonic (USB Problems, and i dont really like TouchWiz)
Cyanogenmod 9. (Little bad performance)
Cyanogenmod 10. My Favourite. - But it has some problems. Text is little bit blurry. App drawer, settings are little laggy when open. Performance would be little better, but its good! Icons on dock are blurry too .

i'll give u a suggestion...i havent tried pacman rom yet, but till now IMO cm10.1 is the smoothest!
even i found text and icons to be blurry..so i suggest u to use that rom with nova launcher prime (u can set custom icon size) and set the system font size to large!
that solves the problem for me...im using the 20130316 nightly with KK cm kernel core 0.2..everythings buttery smooth!
gives me about 5 hrs of screen usage (which really good and just an hour less than what stock rom gives with power saving mode on..
Cheers!
P.S:im gonna try PACMAN rom now
Running pac rom here also and loving it.
I've ran CM10.1, Sungsonic, romswell, ota 4.0.4 and 4.1.1 and without a doubt the best so far is pac rom.
But honestly the battery life is the same on all of these roms, don't let anyone tell you otherwise

[i9505] What would be the perfect ROM for you

We have TW ROMS and Google edition ROMS.
For me, the perfect ROM would be a GE base integrating some cool features from the Stock samsung ROM like Air Gesture, Smart stay/scroll, Air view.
What would be the perfect ROM for you? a samsung stock or GE? Which feature from each one would you pick?
A more stable aosp rom. I'm biding my time with TW.

tw stock rom with stock kernel without any bloatware/samsung apps.
so i still got tw features/gestures but also alot of free ram and a very good performance.
for me there is no need for anything else.
plus i don't have to wait for any custom rom which is buggy or drains battery like hell.
on my s2 aokp was the best for me... but cm kernel on s4 just drains battery way too fast.

half the ROMs here are built by chefs that don't actually own the device. Sure that doesn't necessarily mean that the ROM will be of a lower quality, but it can't be as good as a ROM for a phone that they actually own and use. Also motivation and innovation would suffer a bit here I think - just look at Wanam; he won't innovate on his Adam kernel for the i9505, and has low motivation on his Wanamlite ROM for the i9505, and who can blame him? developing for a device you don't own would be a long drawn out process.
I'm not looking for something basically impossible like "samsung HW features on a AOKP ROM", let's be realistic.
What I want is a ROM by a chef that owns the device and uses it daily, who isn't afraid to mod files and frameworks to get things working, is TW (why buy a phone where you can't use any of the features that set it apart), but with a nice Aroma installer that guides you through a process where you can make it as heavy or light as you want, has low battery drain when "lightened" (ie if you leave it bloated and have high battery drain, what do you expect?). I also want certain features "fixed" by default. If i wanted a pure stock looking and functioning ROM, i would flash a stock ROM. This would include:
I think a subtle battery % mod is required, possibly a theme, but it must be SUBTLE, i don't want glass reflections or garish colours.
I want multi-CSC,
TW launcher should be unlocked (not that I use it, but ROMs that lock the dock are stupid)
Join unlimited contacts
5 way reboot menu
standard SMS/MMS changes (unlimited contacts, no MMS convert)
multi-window manager.. etc.. most ROMs have this stuff I think
Also I don't want a chef that brings out a new version for EVERY firmware that is leaked. Some firmwares bring nothing, or worse performance/features/battery. I want a chef that tests out new firmwares and makes an educated guess based on their experience and what others say on whether they release a new version.
OK that's all, it's a lot to ask I know and probably require someone on it full time, but if you're interested the closest I have gotten to a chef like this is Ripper ROM for the i9305.

Why the i9500 has no AOSP ROMS

You may have noticed by now that the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9500 has no AOSP ROMS, that means no CyanogenMod, AOKP or Paranoid Android.
While the Qualcomm i9505 is basking in Google edition ROMS and Nightlies of CyanogenMod, the i9500 is in the dark.
The only ROMS available for the Exynos powered i9500 currently are Touchwiz based, and are essentially only modified versions of Samsung's own stock ROM. :crying:
There is a reason for this...
You see, to build an AOSP ROM developers need the phone's sources, in this case, devs such as those who work on CyanogenMod and AOKP need the Exynos 5 sources. The problem, Samsung isn't giving them out just yet.
Now back with the Exynos 4, Samsung promised to release the sources to give devs a fighting chance, what they ended up getting was incomplete, and almost useless. It took the developers two years to get something that half worked out of it!
I'm not saying we will never see non touchwiz based ROMS for the Exynos S4, mainly because it appears progress is already being made.
However, until the day comes where we see an AOKP ROM for the i9500, check out this ROM by doga.ozkaraca
It's a heavily modified version of touchwiz with the only noticable Samsung feature being Settings.
Until next time,
Droidulation
I already have an AOSP Rom on my i9500 :good:

And where is this official list? That picture in the posts above is just nothing. The fact that they considering update this doesn't means that we will get it. Even on sammobile.com they say this:
"However, just because Samsung is considering the update doesn’t mean the updates will actually come – the Galaxy S4 mini is one device that is most likely to get the update, but for the other devices on that list, there might not be much hope, if only because Samsung’s heavy and bloated TouchWiz skin might negate the work Google has done on reducing the memory consumption on Android 4.4 KitKat."
So no more updates for ACE2. That's the big bold fact.

To be honest - if KitKat on Ace 2 will ever be released and will be full of bloatware, such as JB, then I prefer unofficial CM releases. At least they're smooth and very fast and they don't kick off the launcher from memory as JB did, when I tried to go back from any app.

If the stock rom did not have such lag I'd suggest the majority stick with it unless you had a specific reason not to. Since it DOES have lag, I'd suggest the i806/DCZ rom since it is a version of stock that should eliminate the lag and work fully with the hardware. All the other rom's have issues of one type or another.
Resurrection Remix still has several things wrong..the camera off the top of my head. CM12.1 still has issues. Currently the cm12.1 dev does not have the device in hand...neither does the resurrection remix dev....working on rom's without the device is similar to driving blindfolded. You are guaranteed to get SOMEWHERE but it may not be where you want to be.
There are only 3 real roms available other than original stock and I HIGHLY recommend you backup your stock with twrp so you can go back to it for system updates. Why are the system updates so important if you are on another rom? They are the only way you can get modem driver mods/improvements among other things.
I'm not sure which I'd prefer at the moment. Guess I'll just read lol

Cm 12.1 (10/29) is most stable on my idol 3 (6045i). Resurrection Remix is not stable. Random reboots, lag and speakers and cam don't work.

Thanks for the tips. I do like performance and stability over anything. So I'll check out DCZ. I've already backed up stock.
