Screen flashes when receiving text message using Samsung app - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Hi all. I recently got an S7 as a warranty replacement. Using Nougat and the stock SMS app, I see that the screen flashes/turns on when text messages arrive. I have already seen on the Web that this seems to be the default way the app works with no workaround except using a third party app. I'd like to keep using the stock one, as it's already using some RCS features not seen yet in the Android/Google app or on Textra.
Are other users seeing the same behavior with the stock app? Is there any fix available? Thanks in advance.

[Q] Mightytext and Glowfly not compatible?

I use Mightytext and Glowfly quite frequently.
Messages sent using Glowfly's quick reply function will not show up in the Mightytext web app. Messages received work fine. All messages still appear in the stock messaging app.
Not sure if perhaps other people have the same issue using both of these apps together. Any insight would be appreciated.
I have already contacted both developers but still haven't received a sufficient response

[Q] SMS Delivery Reports

Anyone else having trouble with delivery reports when using third-party sms apps such as handcent? I get delivery unsuccessful even when the other person receives the text and it happens on a few different apps I've tried. It works fine when using the stock messenger.
From my understanding of Android version below 4.4, this can happen to all 3rd party apps. See news article here

Alternatives to HTC Stock sms/mms Messaging?

Ok, so I had a Samsung for about a year and its stock messaging app worked very well with my 7k+ messages-- there was no lag or delay in opening up threads-- buttery smooth. I decide to come back to HTC with the M8 and it chokes every time I open a large thread taking about 20 seconds before I can see the thread. Is there messaging replacement that I can use that will handle large threads more gracefully, say by showing the most recent messages first and then pulling messages as I scroll back in time? Is there a flashable AOSP messaging app available? Is it possible to flash the Samsung messaging app on an HTC device?
Uninterested in the following-- if you're going to propose any of them then just move along and find another thread to expend your energies:
1. Commercial "solutions"
2. "Why would you want to do that anyway?"
3. "Hangouts works great"
Thanks in advance.

I've been using HoverChat. I like the fact that it gives me a floating window to respond so I do not need to leave the current app. Everything seems to work fairly well.

If it takes 20 seconds to open a thread, I would think you've got something wrong. But, Evolve SMS isn't bad.
I would recommend the verizon messages app because it allows your text and pic messages to send over wifi. My next choice would be handscent or go sms pro.

Ditto. I initially RAN from VZW messaging app but then I found that I quite like it. And in roaming areas I can text on wifi. And when I am texting at work I am able to text from my computer.

OEM Pie - anyone else having issues receiving GIFs?

Unless I'm using the stock messaging app, all GIFs come through simply as images. Outgoing GIFs are fine, but incoming ones are not. Anybody else having this issue? If not, are you using the stock messaging app or a third party one (hopefully not Textra or Pulse because they have the same bug I've described).
Stock U12+ w/ Android 9 on software build 2.51.617.1 in USA
(Don't judge me for not rooting my device yet ... I'll do it soon, I promise )

No issues on my device, just checked. I'm using Google Messenger app.
However, I've got 2.55.401.1 so a bit newer.
Same problem here. On Verizon. I'll try the default app. Having to use pulse currently because of some weird provisioning bug that won't allow me to receive pictures via mms with any other app messaging app except Verizon messages and pulse

What messaging app

What messaging app is everyone using?
I'm using stock messaging app but when I get sent videos it looks small extremely pixelated and you can barely tell what's going on. What are you guys using and is there a way to fix this. I do have the sms chat all set up and working auto download 105mb
Thanks
You need to use WhatsApp to send & receive videos that aren't compressed beyond recognition.

I have used stock, Messenger, and Verizon Message+ (that came from the ex-Verizon S7 the Pixel 3a replaced - and now is the backup). All three support SMS; the only reason I am using stock is in the off chance of my GETTING an RCS message. (So far - none.)

SMS simply cannot set videos that aren't horribly compressed.
Untill RCS is globally available the only alternative is messaging apps like telegram, Facebook messenger, WhatsApp, etc.
