I recently rooted my phone (T-Mobile US Nexus S) and installed the 4.0.3 OTA update from this thread, but now I cannot access any Google apps or get root access on any of the apps that require it.

Ok! first download : http://www.4shared.com/zip/XG506hyV/icsroot-fastboot-recovey.html
just unpack, connect your device and click run.bat.....Good luck!
I ran the .bat, but I get an error saying "Device already rooted", but it is still not recognized as rooted by SuperUser.
Alternatively, is it possible to completely wipe the phone of everything (including root) so I can start over with a fresh phone?
Of course you can, and might be the best idea if you don't mind doing it.
Make sure you have the latest CWM recovery on your phone, download the FULL ROM from this thread (i'm not american so i don't know exactly, but from what i know yours is the I9020T, so get that ROM) and copy it to the SDCard. Now go into recovery, wipe system/data and dalvik cache, then flash the ROM.
Do make sure you have the right ROM though. This will get you 100% fresh and untouched 4.0.3. You can probably clear out any non-personal folders on the sdcard too, but that shouldn't do any harm anyway.
After this, use the attached file from this thread to root, and feel free to update root/superuser.
Actually, that's what I did...I can't use CWM recovery because its displaying an error of no root. So how do I wipe this or fix CWM?
Is your boot loader unlocked? And are you trying to flash cwm through fastboot?
Note to backup your sdcard if unlocking the bootloader.

My bootloader is apparently unlocked and I'm trying to flash through fastboot.
Are you sure the following is satisfied:
-open padlock and google logo on boot
-fastboot (on phone) says "bootloader status: unlocked" or something of the like
-you are using: "fastboot flash recovery "C:\path\to\recovery.img""
-you are using the above command while connected to the PC via USB (with working drivers) and that you are in fastboot mode on the phone (turn off phone --> hold Vol. Up then hold Power TOGETHER for about 2 seconds, should give you reboot and recovery options)
It is necessary to be in the bootloader/fastboot interface on the phone when you run the command. Hopefully it was something simple that i said above, otherwise i'm completely lost.
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. I didn't use that method to root...
4. I'll try that.
3 is just flashing recovery, that is the code u type into cmd/terminal to reflash the recovery img. It isn't rooting the phone. 4 is how to get into the mode on the phone to use the command.
Its a bit confusing at first but makes much more sense once you do it one or two times.
Where do I go to get the recovery image?
The latest ClockWorkMod Recovery can be found on this page. Just scroll down to Nexus S and download 5.0.2.0 crespo .img. Then just direct fastboot to the folder you have it saved in while using the "fastboot flash recovery C:\path\to\recovery.img" command.
Ok. I've tried this, but in command prompt, I get the following error:
C:\Users\Bruce>fastboot flash recovery C:\Users\Bruce\Downloads\recovery.img
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Check out this rooting guide, however only go up to step 5 (and do NOT type "fastboot oem unlock", do everything up until that point). This will setup fastboot for you, and setup drivers for your computer. Once this is done, do what you did above and it should work successfully.
Remember to cd (change directory) in cmd to where you unzipped that folder.
There isn't a link...
Sorry, stuffed that up. I fixed the link in my previous post pointing to NexusSHacks - How to Root Nexus S.
It's worked, but when I try to go to the recovery menu, the Google/unlocked padlock screen freezes or it displays an Android with its chest compartment open and a red triangular ! symbol.
I just had a really long reply and managed to lose it by closing the page..
That's the stock bootloader you see there, it probably didnt flash or you rebooted your phone. And make sure that you are flashing the latest CWM you downloaded before.
I flashed the latest CWM, but when I try to go to recovery, my phone freezes at the Google logo with the unlocked padlock.
Have you tried flashing it again, or maybe redownloading the file? And of course making sure it is the NEXUS S version which you are downloading.
Alternatively, try just "fastboot boot recovery.img", replacing recovery.img with the full name and path of cwm.
edit: btw, i'll be gone for an hour or two Bruce so i can answer any more questions/issues when i get back
Hello Guys,
I'm now in deep deep trouble as my Nexus 5 has got soft bricked and now stuck in a bootloop. Yesterday evening i unrooted my device, flashed everything to stock and locked the bootloader back because i was getting a really awful battery life upon rooting. Hence thought of reverting to stock. So flashed the stock image of 4.4.2 and setup my phone just like it came from a factory. Only thing i did this time was disable some Google Apps i.e Play News, Games & Magazines, Movies etc. Till midnight it was working too good with only a marginal battery drain on idle i.e 1% in 2 hrs or so.
Today morning when i woke up, i just entered the PIN code and unlocked the homescreen and then it just got stuck. I restarted my device and since then, its just stuck in a bootloop and whenever the phone tries to restart the OS, its gives numerous errors all related to Play sErvices and something like android.process.acore and Media.
I tried to factory reset by going through the stock recovery but even in that it gives the errors " Failed to mount /cache" and "Failed to mount /cache/recovery" with invalid arguments in the brackets.
Now i can't even flash stock as the Bootloader is in Locked State. I'm able to flash unlock Bootloader but when it asks to restart "fastboot reboot", it again gets stuck on the Google Play services error resulting again in locked state. That leaves me with a LOCKED BOOTLOADER, STOCK RECOVERY & NO USB DEBUGGING ENABLED.
What can i do now to get my device working people ? Feel like :crying: since its happened. Moreover, i can't RMA it as I'm now in a different country from where the phone wasn't purchased.

The tool specifically asks for Unlocked Bootloader and like i've already mentioned, its in a lock state. To unlock that, i need to have USB debugging enabled which i can't enable as i'm not able to even see the lockscreen, just stuck in a bootloop. :crying: I'm able to launch the Fastboot Mode and also partially unlock the bootloader but as soon as i type the command "fastboot reboot", the device again goes into bootloop starting the cycle again
Any more suggestions guys or should i assume my Nexus to be a paperweight ?

Go to the stock recovery and format cache.. Do it a couple of times till the /cache errors go away and then go to the bootloader and flash the stock factory images again. After flashing the stock images, don't boot it up, head over to the stock recovery and perform a factory reset and then reboot!

You can use command in fastboot "fastboot oem unlock" to unlock then reboot in fastboot again, and try this instruction (since you unlocked you should be able to do this).

What? USB Debugging doesn't have to be enabled. Bootloader unlocking is done from fastboot via 'fastboot oem unlock'.

Bitdomo tried you awesome tool which gave me a slight hope that could revive my Nexus but sadly it didn't :crying: Memory size is matched 32G but userdata erase fails and at last the Download FAIL error is there I just don't know what is preventing the Cache and User Data to erase. Same is the case in Stock Recovery as well.
Can you please get me a solution on this. Would be highly obliged :good:

Successfully unlocked bootloader finally and installed TWRP. Booted in TWRP and performed Data Wipe and it failed. Again unable to mount /cache /persist /data etc commands showed. Then it tried formatting using make_ext4fs function but it failed. Swiped for a factory reset and it failed.
Used your ADB command afterwards and it displayed first daemon started successfully on port 5037 and then error in cmd : device not found.
What next ?
EDIT : Just noticed on the TWRP screen that my internal storage space is being shown as Zero (0) MB Now does this means my flash storage has died ? If that's the case and i need to RMA it, how to relock the bootloader , reset tamper flag and load stock recovery so that google doesn't cause any warranty issues. Please help me in that case as well.
EDIT 2 : Using fastboot, tried flash stock cache.img and userdata.img, it failed. When i flash system.img it went through perfectly. Also, got to know that the steps which you mentioned earlier, TWRP was booted temporarily and bootloader was unlocked temporarily. So does this means i don't need to relock or flash back something ? And, if i've unlocked and relocked the bootloader numerous times, how do i reset tamper flag ?

You could try one more thing. Format the /presist partition, For some reason it magically fixed other's devices, like for this guy and for an other in that same thread, but if you format it you will lose your wifi and bluetooth mac address, and some kind of DRM stuff. I made a tutorial how to fix wifi and bluetoot mac address problem after the formating, but I cant tell anything about the drm kind of files, because I still didnt get answers form the guys in that thread. That could mean they are experiencing no problems. Here is the zip which formats persist partition.

I tried all sort of things before finally giving up. Ultimately sent the device for RMA. Thanks for your inputs as well
@bitdomo, i have realised it was a case of dead memory chip only. I managed to relock the bootloader and reset the tamper flag (oem device info showed Tamper as "false") but now my only cause of concern is the LG Flash Tool. When i flashed the KOT9H firmware, it changed the original device version as mine came with 4.4 OOTB instead of 4.4.2. Can Google refuse the RMA citing this now ? Rest all, the kernel, recovery, bootloader, tamper flag is all stock. I coudn't even change that back to the original device version as i couldn't transfer any zip to the internal storage as it was dead.

Google can't get your actual device factory version, because it is only visible with lg flashtool, and that tool is an internal lg software. Google has nothing to with that tool.
By the way this lgfalsh tool makes your phone offical, because this is the offical tool used in LG service centres!!!!
Can you imagine a guy at google who takes your phone flashes a custom recovery, reads back the misc partition and search for the factory device version in the hex code. Then he checks your phone serial number and sees 310K then denies your rma request because your device factory version cant be that because in oktober 2013 there were no 4.4.2? I think no.
But if it bothers you then, you can flash krt16m, or if your nexus 5 had to do big update ~150 mb ota update then flash kfs78n if your device is D821 or flash kqs81m if your device is D820. Converted roms work too without problems I have tested them.

I have already sent the defective one for RMA so there's no question of flashing any files now. Google sends the new replacement device and and lieu of that they block temporarily the device's price for a period of 14-21 days in which the service centre ppl check for the issues what got the device in. And i think LG only is handling that as it made the device ? So my question still remains now can the LG guys intimate Google that the phone was flashed. ? But on the positive, the flash tool was of LG and it can't be turned unofficial What say ? I don't wish to pay again for a new device. If the service centre guys gives a thumbs up that phone indeed died as a result of hardware failure like emmc chip, then the card block is removed.
BTW, i am not aware whether Google itself handles the service or asks LG to do the same! Any inputs ?

-Is your bootloader unlocked?
-What recovery do you have?
Available signed flashable ROMs: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/mirrors-for-official-cyanogen-roms-ota-updates.141825/
Find yours or just chose one, and download the signed flashable zip, then copy it to the phone (while in recovery the phone has MTP enabled on the PC) then just flash that ROM from the recovery, this will overwrite system but won't touch data and most likely fix the bootloop.
Before rebooting after flash wipe cache and dalvik just in case.
Next time do a nandroid backup if you have sensible data. I usually don't keep anything important on the phone, everything on google drive.

Which recovery? Stock or twrp? I'm not sure that when you have stock recovery on the phone gets recognized as mtp on the PC.
I can think of adb to push the ROM zip on the PC but if you claim it doesn't get recognized I have no clue. Are you sire you have the google USB drivers installed?

Install fastboot, adb and google USB drivers : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9fZIF6vzIBzT2ZtZkNSVFI5ZHc/view?usp=drivesdk
Reboot the pc
Download twrp: https://dl.twrp.me/bacon/twrp-3.1.0-0-bacon.img.html
Reboot in fastboot mode.
Open a command prompt on the PC inside the folder where the downloaded recovery is.
-Find the folder (maybe user/Downloads)
-while holding shift mouse right click inside the folder
-select "open command prompt here"
Connect your phone and type in cmd
Code:
fastboot devices
If you're lucky and did everything correctly then your phone should appear and you can continue, if not uninstall the drivers you previously had and kingroot and whatever minitool you used and try again.
Now that the device is visible
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp twrp-3.1.0-0-bacon.img
Phone should reboot. Just turn off and boot into recovery and hopefully you'll see twrp.
Now connect the phone to the PC an you should see the mass storage and you'll be able to copy the ROM zip there.
Now just flash the zip of the rom and you're done.
U cannot assure you that it will fix the bootloop but it's your best choice.
In the future:
-Never use kingroot or other ****ty mini tools. CMD and manual flash are always the best choice.
-Do a backup if you are not confident with this kind of stuff.

-Don't keep too much stuff on the phone. Use google drive. And services to save contacts, notes images videos.

This means your bootloader is still locked so you basically can't do anything. To unlock it you would need to factory reset. So your only option is to try installing the ROM via adb on the cyanogen recovery.

Try to push the zip from adb to /sdcard and then flash the zip through the recovery (which technically should do it since it's a stock ROM)
This will result in a "dirty flash" which will not delete data.
This is your only option in the current state of your phone, if you had rooted your phone properly without kingroot you would have booloader unlocked an you would've had more options. If this doesn't work you are forced to factory reset. And use this opportunity to unlock bootloader with
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Which due to security measurements will delete all the data.
Before you going to flash anything using adb or something, do this.....
1. Turn off your phone completely.....
2. Connect the charger and let it charger for 10 minutes
3. While the charger is still connected, press the power button (turn it on)
4. Wait....
If the phone boot normally while the charger is still connected, unplug the charger and waits....if the phone goes back bootloop after a few minutes and hours without charger connected then your problem is a dying battery not software....buy a new battery and once your replace it, it will solved your problem without having to flash anything via adb or recovery...it also can save all your data....

Lolwat?? What kind of sorcery are you talking about.... ? if it was the battery it wouldn't have happend right after he messed with that stuff. Improve your troubleshot skills ? this kind of stuff happened to me insane amount of times and always were able to fix it, in this case the guy is limited by the fact he doesn't have the bootloader unlocked.

That depends if you are running oxygen os, you can't flash an OTA of OS that you are currently not running. To dirty flash you have to use the same version or distribution of the OS you are currently running.
i was trying to root my phone and i unlocked the bootloader i also installed twrp but i wasnt able to root it. my phone was just showing the huawei logo and turn off after about 5 minutes it turned on normally. then, i tried to lock the bootloader hoping to fix this problem after that, i got this message saying "decryption failed the password you entered is correct unfortunately your data is corrupt". i cant connect my phone to computer i also cant enter fastboot mode. what should i do?
You have twrp??if yes format your data..

You can always enter fastboot, turn off your phone, hold vol- and connect usb to phone... Now unlock bootloader again, flash twrp for nougat[latest 3.1.1-1 by olddroid] if you are on nougat build and use option "format data" next to advanced wipe in twrp... If this is successful, reboot recovery, go to advanced wipe, check data, click "repair or change file system" and change it to EXT4 because previous "format data" changes to f2fs and that won't work with official systems then reboot... If your phone does not start, download same system you got on phone when this started to happen, extract UPDATE.APP from update.zip you got, put update.app in dload folder and put it on root of your sd card then turn off your device, disconnect all cables, hold vol- , vol+ and power button untill instalation starts... Your bootloader will be locked again after this.
So I had an unlocked H8 with LOS. As I wanted to install EMUI, I put the proper restore Update.app into the dload folder and started Huawei's recovery. Everything went well, I formated data and wanted to install the EMUI 4.1 ROM using the same method.
Unfortunately my H8 is bootlooping and there is now way into erecovery nor any other recovery. It simply reboots on every single known vol up or down key pressing combination. The only thing I can go to is fastboot mode when holding down vol down and plugging in usb wire. But, it says frd locked and I can't install nor boot twrp. It's simply gone and reboots all the time.
Any hints? I can't even turn it off.
I wanted to give away that phone that's the reason. Last time I did it this way, I could flash the EMUI 4.1 since it's signed. But not this time.
Interesting part is, that although fastboot says frd locked, I still get the "phone unlocked" warning on every reboot. dload method isn't working, as it simply keeps rebooting.
It's my hardest brick so far I ever encountered
the same thing happened to me.....on my phone lock/unlocked frp and bootloader were tweaked for some reason(I mean that what was written wasn't the reality) so how did I fix it? I kept on to flash rollback package many times and I tried to unlock/relock bootloader again, at the end the phone let me to flash the firmware, I didn't know how but the phone allowed me to flash things throw recovery(using dload method). At the begin I only could access to erecovery and fastboot. I suppose that I broke system and data partition and while I looked/unlocked the bootloader, the wipe fixed the partition table. Sorry I'm tired and I know that my English sucks, I hope you understand what I have written.
How did you enter erecovery as this isn't working for me.... What did you flash over fastboot?
Have you tried flashing the firmware separately using adb on computer?
For this you just need to extract the Update.app using the firmware extractor for huawei. Then flash them individually using adb commands in cmd.
I can't access any state that would allow to do adb.

sorry. I'll try to explain better, however on Huawei/honor devices there are not one but two recoveries, so one is the normal recovery flashed in recovery partition, the second one is the Huawei recovery that is flashed in recovery2 partition, so if you didn't touch recovery2 partition, your erecovery is still there, now, if you press VOL+ VOL- and POWER it will reboot to recovery2 and it starts to flash something from dload in your sd card, so in my opinion you should do this things, first try this method to flash rollback package(this is the transition package from 7 to 6 and you will find it on honor site) if this is still not working try locking and unlocking again your bootloader(I hope this fix partitions of your device) then try to enter recovery and do a wipe and then boot your device, if this doesn't work flash rollback package(now it would work) and then flash an emui 4 full firmware image, always using dload method. trust me... I did the same... and it worked for me. let me know if it works for you :good:

I ran into this issue not that long ago. What you have to do is relock your bootloader using ADB. The ADB commands and instructions can be found in this thread.
Just a FYI, do not use the links to the software listed in that thread as it is a little outdated. The method still works but the software will probably not work. Just be sure to get the most recent/appropriate version of SuperSU and TWRP via their official threads (This is if you want to re-root). There are Honor 8 specific TWRP files if I remember correctly, so be sure to check around the Honor 8 forums for the correct files.
A quick summary of what I did:
1) Power your phone off and then boot into fastboot by holding Vol down + Power; as soon as it boots up, plug your phone into your combuter via your usb cord.
2) With ADB running, type:
Code:
fastboot oem relock [COLOR="LightBlue"]################[/COLOR]
NOTE: The '#' should be replaced with your unique unlock code that you obtained to unlock your bootloader.
3) Wait for it to format and reset your phone and go through the setup. BE SURE TO BYPASS all google registration; skip everything you can to get into the phone itself. If you do register, it will reactivate FRP and you'll have to start over again.
4) Turn on USB Debugging and every other setting that enables developer administrative navigation and control just to be safe. USB Debugging being the most important one, though.
5) Restart your phone and boot into fastboot again using Vol down + Power.
6) Unlock your phone again with:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock [COLOR="LightBlue"]################[/COLOR]
7) Once the command is entered, it'll reset your phone once more and - as stated before - bypass/skip all google (FRP) registration.
8) Enable developer options and USB debugging again and make sure that OEM Unlocked is checked and grayed out.
9) Reboot into fastboot mode to confirm that FRP is disabled and you should be able to install TWRP now via ADB.
@Numerics thanks. The thing is, that I can't boot anything. I can't even go into eRecovery. Nor can I flash a stock EMUI 4.1. It just boot loops all the time and I can only access fastboot.
If you can flash twrp..........Install los or other Rom ..................Go back to stock.......you must flash b360 ober adb...... because los is 7.1...............if you on b360 you can usw the rollback for emui 4.1........,..............sry for bad english
I can easily go to fastboot. But I can't flash anything. I extracted the img from the update.app but can't flash. It simply says that it's not permitted.

With my method, you don't need to flash anything. Just relock your bootloader via adb in fastboot mode and let it reset. Unless I'm not understanding your issue entirely.
@Numerics as I said, in won't boot anything as it is constantly boot looping. There is no way to access any kind of recovery nor erecovery. There is no boot into Android. The only thing accessible right now is fast boot (which is not ADB). But even in fast boot I can't do anything als operations are not permitted.
after boot looping and starting fast boot mode, I can see a "Android reboot reason" section saying:
AP_S_PANIC
data is invalid
There is still a lineageos installed on system as firmware but as I tried to get rid of it by going back to stock EMUI, I guess Huawei's rollback did something wrong and killed recovery (although I did it in the past successfully).
I tried to run HiSuite to recover my phone, but it just says, that my phone is not supported.
Speaking of this, Huawei messed up with that whole fastboot locking bull****.

No, I know ADB isn't Fastboot. What I'm trying to say is that you should be able to still run ADB via CMD on Windows when you're in fastboot mode to relock your bootloader with the directions I gave in my previous post. It'll force-restore your phone to a non-bricked/vanilla state. At least that is how I fixed mine.
Like... You can't even try using the 'fastboot oem relock ################' function via the ADB console while in fastboot?
yes boy trust us, you haven't a working OS so it is a normal thing that your phone reboot, you cannot access to recovery because some partitions are corrupted (data partition) , so these are the steps that could help you:
1) using fastboot, relock your boot loader
2)using fastboot, unlock your boot loader (partition table would be ok now, and you would be able to use load method to flash things trow stock recovery)
4)put inside your sd card \dload\update.app(use rollback package)
3) press all the buttons while your device is rebooting(do this before the blue screen logo appear), your phone is now looking for something inside your sd card
5) if the next step doesn't work do a factory reset from recovery that now would be working
6) put inside your sd card a full android 6 (emus 4) update.app and pressing all buttons it will install the firmware
7) your device now is locked and back to stock, maybe without cust partition or maybe in test mode but it is certainly alive
8) do a factory reset and reinstall the firmware
9) your phone is now ok
You don't lock the bootloader via ADB but via fastboot.
As I said, northing was restored and nothing is booting and I can't unlock my bootloader again. As I said, recovery is not working so the file in dload is not loaded and used. Which is strange.
Locking bootloader didn't do anything besides locking the bootloader. Device is still dead and I still can only access fastboot.

This is not the truth.....locking bootloader will erase all your data and fix partitions....and with fixed partition you can access to recovery ......trust me the only thing that you can do is to lock your bootloader......you can't flash anything from fastboot and boot recovery or system now...... lock your bootloader and then unlock it again, try using "fastboot OEM lock *****" or "fastboot OEM relock *******" (try cmd runned as admin, people say that this makes the difference) then unlock your device again and .....magic your recovery will boot......the same thing happened to me and I fixed my phone using this trick, however, even if you had frp unlocked it would say you that isn't possible to write anything because you broke some partition, and that's the reason why you can't boot recovery, wait one second and think: why doesn't my recovery boot?
It has nothing to do with trust. I did it and device is still a full stone brick. Nothing changed by locking the bootloader besides that now I can't unlock the bootloader anymore.
