======================= Original post: ===============================
Hi guys!
I completely soft-bricked my Huawei Mediapad X2 702L. I tried flashing with the "B112 Rooted with GAPPS" ROM, , but it's booting into a boot loop. I also (somehow) wiped my stock backup in the process!
How can you reflash with completely stock ROM?
All the "reflash from stock" instructions I've seen say I need a 'boot.img', 'cache.img', 'recovery.img' and 'cust.img'. I have a stock ROM, but it doesn't include anything but an 'UPDATE.APP' file. Where do I get any of those?
- I have TWRP 5.1 installed
- I have downloadedthe stock ROM GEM-703L -B112 (contains /dload/UPDATE.APP)

So factory reset in TWRP.
Flash the recovery.img for 112
Start the external sd dload Downgrade script via 3 button press without USB connection. (Search forum for link). If successful then exchange content on external sd dload with the files for b203.
Start dload via 3 buttons.
Install TWRP
Install KangVIP 212
My device: Mate 9 superroot, Mediapad X2 GEM 701->703 B212 KangVIP (AJ mod)

First of all indeed, try "factory reset in TWRP" as audio ralf suggest, that could be enough ?
Then to get all .img files from any update .app, use on your PC the Huawei update extractor software: Here are the steps:
1) download the desired rom
2) download & install huawei update extractor: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454
3) extract .img files from the downloaded rom.
4) install ADB on your computer
5) Fastboot flash the .img files on your phone

then use the android dev sub-forum here to find custom roms.

Thanks Djiban and audio_ralf!
Progress:
I've got a successfully booting version of a not so great 703L, but that's progress. (I can boot to an OS now, so it's technically unbricked, thanks to you guys.)
Steps unbrick from scratch, based on my current understanding
To reflash from a stock image, I have to:
1. Wipe using TWRP (download + install adb, flashboot, and flash TWRP if I haven't already)
2. Download a base stock ROM (which will be an UPDATE.APP file)
3. Download extractor tool
4. Extract the IMG files from the Stock ROM
5.. Using flashboot tool, flash images (boot.img, cache.img, recovery.img, and cust.img)
About upgrades:
I also understand that there seems to be a specific upgrade route, from version to version, so I can't just install a higher level ROM from scratch, but need to install a specific "base" version first.
Like, I can't jump from an android 5.0 stock to an android 6.0-based ROM. Is that correct?
I'm currently using an almost unusable version of 703L, which says that it's on android 4.x! I don't know if that's correct.
If I wanted, for example install the KangVIP212, what base version ROM do I need to start from?

audioralf said:

audioralf are you aware whether this path will work on a 702L model?
(*I'm able to install the 703L B009 stock ROM, but I can't get it to upgrade to 112. Probably doing something wrong.)

Is your battery still charging?

The battery is still charging.
Unfortunately, the situation has taken a turn for the worse, I believe I have true-bricked it now. I tried loading a different stock ROM via the flashboot method, and now I can't get it to boot to a bootloader screen nor a recovery screen, normal boot hangs at the logo. It's stuck in a bootloop of death, can't power off.
1. Recovery mode takes me to the EMUI recovery screen with options:
- Reboot system
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Wipe cache partition
2. ADB is unreachable (It never boots to a reachable state)
3. Fastboot / bootloader screen is unreachable (I can't reboot to fastboot screen)
4. Three finger reboot takes me to the EMUI "install update" screen, which fails at 5%, allowing me to only reboot system.
Can't get to fastboot.
Can't flash recovery.
Can't get into adb.
I tried putting a stock 702L B005 image in the sd card dload folder, no dice.
I think it's a paperweight.
:crying:

Why did you flash 'a different stock rom', instead of that what I suggested?
Do factory reset and run that downgrade script.

Because it was not clear to me what you meant in your first response, and it didn't answer my question about how to get IMG files.
What you suggested was:
factory reset in TWRP.
Flash the recovery.img for 112
Start the external sd dload Downgrade script via 3 button press without USB connection. (Search forum for link). If successful then exchange content on external sd dload with the files for b203.
Start dload via 3 buttons.

Note that in my first question I asked "I've read I'm supposed to use some IMG files (boot.img, cuts.img, etc) - where/how do I get them?"
At the time of that post, I had no idea how to extract IMG files, (hence the original question). Also did not understand what the "recovery img for 112" means, nor how to get it. Much less understand what "Start external sd dload downgrade script via 3 button press without usb" means.
Some of us are new here.
Due to Djiban's response explaining with clear steps how to extract those files, etc., I was able to get as far as extracting and flashing images. A thread on this forum (among many threads of conflicting and confusing advice, none of which are clear if they are correct or wrong) said to flash imgs for 703L, which seemed to work but looked to be incorrect for my device. However wasn't able to figure out how to get back to stock ROM, nor which one I need..
I followed up by asking a question to you about whether this path you suggested would work for my 702L device, but didn't get any response, so I more or less flashed what seemed to be (based on other posts) the correct stock ROM. Didn't work.
Currently,
I've managed to finally un-brick it again, escaped Boot loop of death, and was able to get back to stock B005. I've seen conflicting answers on the correct path to get to an android 6 ROM, and I'm not sure what correct "upgrade path" is now.
Thanks sincerely to all for the help, and will post updates here as I get there.

Sorry, but all tke guides and answers are here in our x2 forum. It does not help to repeat it. I have less time currently, so I asked you if you have still charging battery. If not, we must quickly return to 5.11, because when your battery is empty you will not be able to repair the device. This can happen if you return to b005 without downgrade script.
3 buttons press means: start the device with power and keep holding vol up and down keys.

Thanks, sincerely appreciate your time taken to help!
Thanks also for patience, I'm slowly figuring out terms and how to do different upgrade/downgrade methods.
Charging:
I am able to charge (I have a working copy of B005 now with downgrade script run)
Currently:
I have a working installation of B005
I have run the downgrade script, and it is charging
I can access flashboot menu and adb to flash images
I have downloaded copies of Taiwan versions of 702L stock images B003, B005, B201-202-203
I have downloaded 703L stock images B009 and B112 and Kangvip Slim B212
Question:
I now understand how to flashboot / upgrade from dload.
Which forums guide or upgrade path should I follow from here (B005 Stock) to get to an Android 6.0 ROM (stock or MOD is okay) with native Google apps (i.e. Not Chinese version which has no Google app store)?
Thanks!

Simply put B203 DEMO to dload Folder and select manual update from emui.

The rom suggested is the very new CUST158B203_DEMO Version from Taiwan (December 12th 2016, labelled "demo") for 702 L:
http://consumer.huawei.com/tw/support/downloads/detail/index.htm?id=92804&key4=GEM-702LC158B203
Simply install it with official dload method, directly on your B005! You'll have the Huawei Taiwan's B203 Android 6 rom for 702L!

Thanks audiorolf and djiban:
B005 successfully upgraded to Taiwan B203 rom via sdcard dload method.
Current status:
I'm marking the thread as solved, since the device is succesfully unbricked and has a working OS.
However, the B203 upgrade still has a hitch: the phone SIM card / data seems to not be working. Did you guys hear anything about this from others who upgraded to B203?
I will continue this question on the [ROM] B203 thread
I will also post an edit to the original post with summary of de-bricking from my experience.
Thanks!

I'm looking for someone who might be able to unbrick my hard-bricked Nexus 5X. It died after a Google OS was sent through a couple days ago.

Can you get into download (bootloader) mode?

I was able to get into it a couple of times but since the battery did not take a charge, the phone died – and now no, I can't get into it.

Maybe buy one of those cheap battery cases off ebay to get the phone working then try and enter the bootloader and do a stock rom flash. I have a friend who had the same thing happen to his 5X and it ended up being the flash memory went bad and the phone was done.

What is a battery case and why will it work better than plugging the phone in to a wall charger? How do I do a stock rom flash?"
You mean the phone couldn't be resuscitated?

Problem of switching back to Gem-702l android6.0

Hi,
I really need some help. My phone is gem-702l model, on B112 stock rom of 703l.
Now that Huawei has released a stock Android 6.0 (B201) for gem-702l, I am thinking about switching back.
Here are the thing I did and problem that stopped me.
1. I updated to B209 following the instruction in XDA without any problem.
2. When successfully on B209, I downloaded my stock B201 rom in Huawei website and extracted the 5 required img files: recovery, system, boot, cust, userdata
3. I fastboot flash the 5 img files and reboot. So far so good. The About Pone is correct except internal storage volume.
4. I factory reset and format the internal SD. Now everything in About Phone is correct.
5, I put the dload of b201 in my MicroSD. Strangely there's no "update from SD Card" option, So I use the three key(power, vol+/-)to hard flash the whole dload directory. It failed.
THe problem is : it seems that I can only fastboot flash 5 img files of 702l, there's no way of doing the whole dload update.
Now my phone is not fully converted to Gem-702l. it's kind of half 703l and half 702l in android 6.0.
Is there anything I missed or anything I can do to make it fully converted to 702l?
Please help! thank you so much.

First you need to go back to the last 703L 5.1 system (B112) then flash the universal cust mod, then try the dload to B201. You also may have to go back to the last 702L 5.0 rom before you try to update to B201 but i'm not totally sure.

thanks.
I downgraded to B112 successfully and then tried the dload update. It didn't even go through the first 5 seconds and failed. I guess it's because my phone's on 703L cust so the 702l stock rom didn't apply to it.
As for downgrading to 5.0, there's still no way of doing that for 702l, so I am still stuck here.

I just "fake flashed" back to5.0, which means fastboot flash the required img files, and tried to dload update to B201 of 702l.
It's still not working. Now I am at my wit's end.

Flash the B112 universal cust in TWRP then fastboot flash back the stock recovery, then try the dload again. If that doesn't work, flash twrp, then the cust mod, then the stock recovery then so a factory reset from settings. If the reset completes successfully then flash twrp again then the cust mod then stock recovery then try the dload method again.

That's exactly what I did. The dload just wouldn't go beyond 5 seconds.
The problem, I think, is that the universal cust marked the phone as 703l(that's the point of universal cust), but the stock rom B201 is for 702l. Therefore, the first 5 seconds of dloading when it verified the model, the stock rom and the model just didn't match. So the dload failed.
There's no flashable cust for 702l to make the phone match the requirement of stock B201 rom. I think this might be where the problem is.
The cust mod includes the cust from the 701L and 702L as well so it should work as long as you go back to B112. What is the reason you want to go back to the 702L firmware?

There are certain functions that only exist in my region, such as the nationwide SMS warning regarding natural disasters. It's a system that being developing in my country. All phone brands will integrate the thing in their roms and push out for OTA. I would like to be on the receiving end. Also, If I need to RMA my phone someday, it will be nice to be able to switch back to stock rom for warranty.
I thought it was easier to switch between models when they were both on the same version of Android. I was wrong.

Nice and clear tutorial with all what is needed to successful update. If you proceed it should work without flaw.
I would Not recomnend that. This way will erase the fitting cust on 701 models. I don't think the cust it's a nice goiter which we can replaced by a randomly selected one. Why do you think the device runs in bootloop on this guide?
This is more complicated than the way AJ figured out.
The 'universal cust 112' is the key.
I did it on 3 devices now with 100% success in dload and no bootloops.
2 factory resets and 3 dloads (106 112 and 209) are necessary.
Then install 202 or 211 KangVIP from AJ to have a full functional rooted ROM with your origin cust you came from.

Perhaps indeed it replaces information of 701, I am not a specialist.
The bootloop when its causes are on both models 701 & 702.
Despite this my tutorial that my 701 & 702 work perfectly with the wifi and bluetooth.
I do not question the quality nor the audioralf skills,
I just shared my tutorial after many trials of other tutorials that never It Works for me.
Well you link files you don't write where you got them from and don't write for wich model they are made for and what are requirements they based on.
Maybe it works, but it's a risk to continue on a bootloop with further installations.
The regular way works without errors.
If someone is looking for another dirty short way :
Simply run the official downgrade script from 6.0 to 5.0. for 702.
It even runs on a 5.0 701 model.
After this it behaves like a 702.
Then you can dload the regular update to 6.0 for 702 models.
After this flash TWRP 6.0 and install AJ b211
This method is also dirty because you loose the 701 cust for your region and hardware
This may be have consequences we don't know.
So better go the regular way AJ had figured out and ask in forum if you habe problems.

B111 SimpyGoogle => KANGVIP B211 link?
Hi Audioralf,
thanks for pointing this out. I followed your great guide and got to SimplyGoogle B111 on a GEM-701L. (You updated it with a shortcut to B111, which worked just fine. Some lines in the guide are a bit misleading due to the newer shortcut but all is great).
Now I'd love to get to KANGVIP B211 on Android 6. But how do I get there from B111? I can't find AJs guide you pointed out in your comment. Could be please post a link? (I have searched but without success).
I succeeded

I did succeeded with a mixture of both methods.
I started off following the "original version" of AJ and when I never got into upgrading into 6 I decided to stay at Near...B111.
When I saw Oblemay's tuto I decided to try it. Funny enough, coming from B111 I (701l > 703l) I never got the boot loop!
Also, since I was not able to unpack the rar file from step 6.2 I simply ignored this one and continued with 6.3.
Guess what it worked perfectly. Only issue was unstable wifi until I did a factory reset from within 211 (not TWRP)!
I am very happy with my former 701l now on Marshmallow. Thanks to AJ and Oblemay - Maybe it worked for me with Oblemay's (reduced) version as I also live in France .... Do you also have problems with the mail app in 211?
So can anybody provide clear instructions or links which work for 701 on b003? I am really confused right now, because their are so many Different Methods/Versions..

It could be really good to have some clear way... Actually I was asked about such process by one of russian friends who own GEM701 and do not uderstand nothing, specially using Google translator . As I am owner of GEM703L I am not familiar with 701 ways... But I want to help my companion...

Do you still need help? I did not see your comment.
The way from 112 to 212 is described many times: Just flash boot, system and recovery from b112. Start system and do a factory reset. Then the update.zip of 211 can be started via firmware update menu. (Select partitionally update)
Then install TWRP and AJ KangVIP 211

If someone is interested in rooting method of GEM702 with stock B202 ROM. As i wrote one of my koleauges want to root. I was asking in PM @audioralf and @ajsmsg78. Finally using all advices rooting was done successfully by this method (unit should be unlocked and TWRP installed):
1. Copy to root of SD BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247.zip
2.Boot to TWRP and before installing SuperSU go to Advanced->Terminal and execute command "echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.super.su" (without quotes).
3. Not leaving TWRP install SuperSU from SD.
@ajsmsg78 has some comments concerning rooting with systemless supersu:
ajsmsg78 said:
Just flash SuperSU 2.78 in twrp. My roms are already rooted if he wants to go that route but I wouldn't use systemless root on the X2 as it causes app freezing issues. It's something with Huawei's kernel.

Now we will see. My companion will testing his installation and report back. if the method proves to be flawless @ajsmsg78 could use it in his ROMs....
EDIT// Unfortunately friend reports so this method gives not fully working root.
Still waiting a clear way to convert GEM-701L B001 to GEM-703L
If you are on b001, try to
flash TWRP always on recovery2 partition:
Fastboot flash recovery2 twrp_eng_5_0.img.
So you can keep the device usb connected.
Then install universal cust mod 112.
Always put update.app file to dload folder on external sd. Always exchange the file within this folder on the next steps.
Start with dload process for B003, if you are on Android 5.0 but boot not on B003.
Start system and select firmware update and press local update to select full update to B003
If you are on b003, then
- flash TWRP eng for 5.0 and install universal cust mod 112
Start in bootloader mode and flash the 015 system, boot and recovery.img
Start system and do reset on EMUI.
Then flash TWRP and install universal cust mod 112 again and start dload with b106 update app
Now start system and repeat reset on EMUI including format internal sd.
Flash TWRP FOR 5.11 and Install again universal cust mod 112 and start dload via EMUI with update.app from b112.
Start system and then start local update with incremental update.zip for 211 in dload folder
Finally install TWRP for 6.0 and install
kangvip 211
My device: 701->703 B211 xposed 86
It fails to update to B003 maybe because of the Region/Vendor.
My Build number is GEM-701LV100R001C199B001
Is it possible to change the Region name or the Vendor?
try if it works, if you install universal cust b112 before b003 dload.

Rollback EVA-L09/L19, from Android 7.0 EMUI 5.0 to Android 6.0 EMUI 4.1

Hello !
I found on the Romanian Huawei page this package, used to go back from 7.0 Nougat EMUI 5.0 to 6.0 Loli EMUI 4.1.
UPDATE: for both L09 and L19
It contains a pdf with instructions.
Advice from other users: use an older version of Android 6 MM
I am not responsible for any bricks.
http://consumer.huawei.com/ro/support/downloads/detail/index.htm?id=91624&key0=Mobile%20Phones&key1=Smartphones&key2=EVA-L19
DOWNLOAD
Hit " Thanks" if this helped you
INSTRUCTIONS from the pdf file:
HUAWEI
EVA-LXX EMUI5.0+Android7.0 rollback to EMUI4.1+Android 6.0
Operation instruction
The instruction guides user to roll back from Android7.0 to Android 6.0
1) Roll back operation includes twice SD card update, only through intermediate package
EVA-LXXC900B300, like below:
2) Allow roll back to Huawei official stable release.
Precautions:
1. Make sure the current system version on your phone is an official Huawei version based on Android 7.0. If your phone has been updated with a non-official version, the rollback may fail and even cause unexpected problems.
2. Make sure your phone system version has not been unlocked or rooted.
3. Your personal data will be erased during the rollback. Be sure to back up all your important data beforehand.
4. Prepare a micro SD card with available storage space at least 8 GB.
5. Make sure the battery level is higher than 30%.
6. The rollback includes two local ROM flashing procedures, first from Android 7.0 to the intermediate package version and then from the intermediate package version to Android 6.0.
Step 1: Back up data.
Your personal data will be erased during the rollback. Be sure to back up all your important data beforehand.
To back up data to your micro SD card, go to Tools > Backup, touch backup, and follow the onscreen instructions.
Step 2: Update your phone to the intermediate package version.
Obtain the EVA-LXX intermediate package (UPDATE.APP) by visiting the official EMUI website or calling the customer service hotline.
Load the UPDATE.APP package to the dload folder under your micro SD card root directory. If there is no dload folder under the directory, please create one. (Do not load the UPDATE.APP package to the internal storage.)
When the phone is powered off, press and hold the volume up, volume down, and power buttons simultaneously to enter forcible update mode. Release the buttons only after the rollback starts. Do not operate the phone during the rollback.
Step 3: Confirm the intermediate package version.
When the phone is powered on, go to Settings > About phone and check whether the displayed version number contains EVA-LXXC900B300.
Step 4: Update the phone from the intermediate package version to Android 6.0.
Download an older version of Android 6.0 full package (UPDATE.APP) for the EVA-LXX from the EMUI official website. Load the UPDATE.APP package to the dload folder under your micro SD card root directory. (Do not load the UPDATE.APP package to the internal storage.)
When the phone is powered off, press and hold the volume up, volume down, and power buttons simultaneously to enter forcible update mode. Release the buttons only after the rollback starts. Do not operate the phone during the rollback.
Step 5: Confirm the system version and restore data( better not).
When the phone is powered on, go to Settings > About phone and check whether the displayed EMUI version is EMUI 4.1 and Android version is 6.0.
Go to Tools > Backup, locate the desired backup record, and follow the onscreen instructions to restore.
It's everywhere now. Here in Bulgaria too. So hard to go back. Wish HiSuite was better and just connect your phone and install stable version, something like iTunes. I am not so advanced on Android, recently switched from iPhone and really want to test the Nougat on this beautiful phone, but if it's bad I will have to buy SD card and do all this crap just to get to stable os... Ain't worth it.
P.S: What this part means "6. The rollback includes two local ROM flashing procedures, first from Android 7.0 to the intermediate package version and then from the intermediate package version to Android 6.0." What is intermediate package version?
it means that it's a 2 step downgrade.
first you flash the update.app in the zip attached (intermidiate package ).
then you flash your desired version of Android 6.
it's not that difficult. and you can do it from the internal memory also via the 3 button combo method
It worked with my L19C432 that was running L19C432B322. Thanks.
Confirmed that it works on L09C432 to, so it's not just for L19.
I can go back to 6.0 but I can not apply theme how to solve please help

Wonderful news, thank you!
It doesn't work with me : the rollback of B300 to B182 failed.
EDIT : In fact, it didn't work because I didn't have enough battery...
Trying this now I'm L09 C432, what a ballache!

Did you found a solution? I am experiencing the same problem. After downgrading to Android 6 themes don't work. Also i've installed L19C432B180 and when searching for an update its saying its the latest version. I upgraded to Nougat from B182 wich was an OTA update and now i can receive it anymore.
I think Nougat did something to system partion and now after downgrade not everything its working properly.
I'm on L09C432 in UK.. and was considering upgrading..
Is 7.0 N That bad... Ive read its a Leaked version, which usually means Beta... but Ive read a few forums where people are rolling back
Would you recommend staying on B182 for now...
The official beta is quite good, but you can't get in the list anymore. From what i have read, the leaked one is not that ok. I recommend 182 for now
Sent from my EVA-L19 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I had a nightmare with up and downgrade last night. I thought i've broken my new phone but i've managed it to get it working again without any problems (themes also do work here).
What have i all done, for the reason someone else have troubles with downgrading.
Tip: Do not try to backup anything, it will most likely will make things even worse. Wipe and flash without later importing backups from different builds.
My phone: P9 (L19) DualSim
New phone, directly unlocked bootloader and removed OEM protection
Installed TWRP 3.0.2.0
Opened recovery and installed directly the BETA image for my L19
Until this point all works fine. BETA image is buggy, keyboard not working and freezes sometimes
Decided to go back to stock
TWRP is not working anymore, stuck in "Your device is booting"
Always running into Huawei eRecovery, where you can do noting. Repair always fails
Downloaded latest stock image for my L19 and tried the here suggested steps
Note: Before doing the "dload" flash you need to flash stockrecovery, as far as i know and other threads suggest it too
First Update.app flash (from the zip file here) worked fine
Second Update.app flash from the stock rom stuck at 5% and closed with an error
Hours of trying different things, all not working (Other TWRP recovery version with encryption support, wipes, resets, etc...)
Last try: Download an older stock image of my L19. Flash successfully done. Phone boots now into stock rom :good:
Locked Bootloader again (i guess it have been done by the stock rom flash)
Now i'm completely back to stock - Which is currently the best available rom for this phone, IMHO.
Conclusion: The most headache i got from downloading the wrong (too new) stock image. Trying an older one have solved my flash problems.

I found the same procedure to work. What really puzzled me was that the flashing of update.app "crashed" at 5%. I also tried all sort of solutions, with only new error messages as result.
The final solution to flash an older image was not exactly obvious
i will update OP. thank you for sharing
I tried 2 versions, still gives me errors. Could someone provide the exact version of the rom used in rollback?

Full unroot?

Heya, i'm wanting to root my Mate 9 pro, but before I do I'd like to know if it is possible at this point to fully unroot, lock the bootloader and restore the stock recovery, etc.. Leaving the phone in the state it was when I first booted it.
thanks!

It is possible, if exists FullOTA ROM of your model.
Go to hwmt.ru and search for ROM
Then you need download update.zip
Extract update.app from it
Extract from update.app two files: boot.img and recovery.img
Then flash via fastboot
Sorry, but just flashing boot and recovery.img doesn't restore stock rom. On other Huawei devices we were able to start offline dload with update.app.
But we don't have a offline update for the European and US model. Only for chinese Al00 and 636.
Dload will fail on files, which are made for online auhentification, because they need a key which is not present on offline dload.
If someone has sucess on other update packages, you are welcome to post it here.
To unroot you must remove superuser and flash recovery.img. You should not have changed branding.
Then start firmware finder and select option update via system update. Then install the proxy app and do the setting.
If there is a full packet for your model in the list then try it.
On reboot you would get a message if it is authenticated or not.
A regular update will also close bootloader.

So if I dont install a custom rom, is it then enough to Remove superuser, flash recovery.img and then update via system update? What if my phone is already running the latest version of EMUI available in my region?
I have successfully downgraded via firmware finder proxy my C432 device to full version B138 and then took OTA via normal system update to 156.

Yeah. I confirm that, but in simplest case, when you got Root and want stock back, it is enough to flash boot and recovery to get stock.
If you understand what are you doing, you can return without taking long road
Yes, but this does not close the bootloader whereas an official update does this. So you get also rid of the message on boot.

Yep. Have to relock bootloader manually (a few minutes).
Anyway, your advice is safest.

Currently recommended method to update the 701 w/ b003 to latest KingVIP?

Hey guys,
I have a MediaPad X2 (GEM-701L) and would like to update it to the latest KingVIP rom. I found that update guide from @audioralf but there is so much info and its not very well structured unfortunately, so I was wondering if someone could break it down in a "tl:dr" way for me please.
I already unlocked the bootloader with DC-Unlocker and have TWRP for 5.0 installed.
The current version is the b003.
What is the current recommended method to upgrade to KingVIP b212?
No need to list every single step (im a pro or at least advanced android modder) but a rough breakdown would be cool.
That thread from "AJ" some people refer to unfortunately is removed where he expains the universal cust thing and the downloads seem to be down as well.. ?
Sorry, but I have posted the current steps in later posts. You have not fond it, so here they are in short
-do factory reset from EMUI
-fastboot flash recovery.img for B003 back
-then dload the "downgrade script" from EMUI menu as "full update
-Then install the B202 full package (DEMO)
-install TWRP for Android 6.0 via adb
Start TWRP and install the KANGVIP 212 V2

Thanks man!
Here is (in short as audioralf) the way I do advice. Assuming you have a 701L with its original rom, and you have original stock recovery on recovery1 (recovery1 untouched!), and you have flashed android 6 TWRP recovery on recovery 2 (with adb command "fastboot flash recovery2 xxxx.img")
- do factory reset from EMUI
- download Huawei Taiwan official GEM-702LC158B203CUSTC158D001_DEMO rom
- use this file to do an official dload update (force it by booting with 3 buttons pressed, to be sure)
You will already be on a official android 6 rom, maybe enough fo you? But if Kangvip slim B212 V2 needed (or B202 simply international), juste reboot in recovery with USB pluged (the recovery2 will boot, meaning TWRP Recovery). And install from TWRP one of those custom rom .zip file!
For a more complete guide (for less advanced users), use audioralf recent tutorial :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/me...01-702-703-t3293795/post64819054#post64819054
just use 702LC158B203CUSTC158D001_DEMO rom instead of: downgrade script + B202-DEMO
Sorry but without the 'Downgrade script' this will not work on 701 devices. Maybe on 702 you can skip this step.

702LC158B203CUSTC158D001_DEMO definitly DO install itself directly on 701L device with its original ROM. This has been done several times, and reported also here on xda
Someone reported this would works. For this I tested it 3 times on 3 different devices and it failed in all cases. After this I had problems to start the common process.
It's just one minute for the downgrade script.
So you are on the safe side to run it first.
