I have spent the last 2 days searching and can't find an answer. Does anyone know if there is a way to have the Honor 8 in USB host mode and charging at the same time?
What I am wanting to do is put some TV shows and movies on a USB type C thumb drive and be able to access them from the Honor 8 while keeping the battery topped up with a charger. Is this even possible or is a one or the other situation?
Thanks.
Needs a custom kernel, it's not a standard feature.

Hello, anybody here with an Idol 3 that keeps ejecting flash drives plugged into the micro usb using a USB OTG cable? I have used 2 flash drives and 3 OTG cables and it still keeps on ejecting by itself. Thanks.
Are those flash drives within spec? If they draw more than 500 mA @ 5V, then they are NOT in spec and hence why the drives keep dropping out. Typically that means a USB 2.0 drive should be used. Or a OTG USB drive (I have one) since those have to be in spec otherwise their OTG usefulness goes out the window).
The same flash drives and otg cables worked with all my other phones so I don't think there's any problem with them. I ended up returning the phone since I was also having problems with crappy photos in low light. I have a zenfone 2 which is pretty comparable to this phone and the photos are better in low light plus no noticeable lag unlike with the idol 3. The only thing I really liked with the idol 3 were the stereo speakers which I'm missing right now.
I dont think this phones kernel supports otg. Says USB host diagnostics. BUELLER?
I tried otg also, in 9 of 10 cases, phone reject usb, in one case connections was achieved, and i can copy files from usb. But, even in that case, after some time, connection brakes. Annoying.
5.5 idol 3 android 5.0.2 .. I have used this phones OTG with flash drive, copy move paste all work and other usb devices also work.
My 5.5 idol 3 android 5.0.2 keeps ejecting USB disk CONFIRM
Considering to use a Huawei Mediapad X2 7.0 for my 2DIN car install, since the dimensions of the tablet are nearly identical to 2DIN,
Therefore I would like to know if the device supports USB OTG Host mode and charging the battery of the mediapad simultaneously using a certain Y cable?
Thanks, much appreciated if you can give it a try!

Not sure about OTG Host cum charging combination because my understanding if you use OTG Host mode very likely you plug in a USB OTG thumb drive meaning you cannot charge at the same time.
However connecting the X2 micro USB port via standard USB cable to my laptop, I noticed I could use it as an USB device and it charges at the same time albeit not as as fast as a dedicated charging.

Yes, but not OTG.
I can confirm that, on my side, using an OTG hub with a external power plug, no way to have the device charged by external power when in OTG mode.
It is OTG or Normal charge and functions via USB.
Seems Logical because the Phone is supposed to provide the power to its USB accessories in OTG. Just my HUB has a switch that provide power to those accessories instead of the phone Itself. May-I add that switching this power button on the HUB does not function until you had unplugged & replugged the Hub in the phone after switching between the two modes. I'm afraid of the survival of the Micro USB plug of my phone, on the long run, with all those plugin, unplugin actions !!!
It's possible but with anothere Device the Nexus 7 (2012/2013) with Timurs Kernel. What's the difference of this kernel to the normal kernel, so OTG with charging is working for this device, too.
Anybody knows if its possible to connect usb OTG host and charge the tablet at the same time, i found out a way to enable adoptable storage on USB drives so im planning to offload my console games(borderlands, half-life,etc) to an external hard drive cause i only play them at home when im in console mode, and if it is possible anybody knows where to get one from a reliable seller?
Haha just bought an adapter on amazon.

Does it work charge and enable usb host at the same time? The current one i have acts weird, if i leave tablet alone, usb plugged in host mode as adopted storage my k1 charges, but if i start using it, even on light usage, battery discharges even if it indicates it is charging
Haven't tried it yet. I'll let you know ASAP when I've tested it.

USB OTG and Y cables?
Sent from my SHIELD Tablet K1 using Tapatalk
Okay, they one I've got is damaged. Gotta send it back.
The ones Exile suggested I've one of them. Though, they connect all to big female USB! So you'd need another USB cable (Big male USB to micro male USB for the tab).
I've been using this one, and it works pretty well for charging and using OTG at the same time. But it won't recognize USB devices unless the charger is plugged in, probably because it has a built-in hub.

Thank you for the replies and suggestions, looks like the one im gettting is the same one by @primaleph
Y OTG cables do NOT work with the Shield. I tested a bunch and it's either charging or gamepad but never both simultaneously.

Well actually they do, very2 slow, i hooked the OTG i bought to my charger, my tablet and my printer, then started doing some typing work while listening to some tracks on spotify max volume and at about 20% brightness,, after i finished and checked my battery it went up from 95 to 97, also tried the same with a usb attached, so for light loads it does charge but for gaming, even i lose charge when playing games such as vain glory while the tablet is directly charging so im sure its still gonna drain but probably not as fast as not charging at all, or another thing is not all OTG Y cables are configured the same me and @primaleph just got lucky with the ones we got and yours are probably the not compatible ones
A printer?
Anyhow, it doesn't show the lightning symbol if two devices like charger and gamepad are simultaneously connected. Whereas, using just one of the devices works.

Yeah i use an app called printershare, it allows me to use printers directly via usb connection cause i still own those old printers with no wifi connection costs 10 bucks for the license though, i tried with my old usb gamepad and it also charges and gamepad works, i think you need a more powerful charger, i use a tronsmart quickcharge 3.0 with a 2nd port with a max of 6.5V 3amp output which i use to charge it in OTG mode, 5V 2amp chargers should work but sometimes the power cuts out on The devices being connected, happened to me while on a boat trip, boring 2hr ride, me and GF wanted to listen to some music but we both own over the ear headphones not those little earphones, i charge my shield with a powerbank that provides 5V 2A output, plug it in the OTG and use a usb soundcard with with two audio jacks so we both could listen and throughout the trip there are times the soundcard would lose power which was pretty annoying,
Heres a screen recording where it is charging and i attach devices one by one to my shield tablet

i bought this one , it work not enough quick and don t know if i did well,
i use mode 1 , plug hdd then plug charge, in video they use mode 2
Hi all! I believe all of us felt that the USB cable that Huawei included for Mate 9 is rather short...
I am not very familiar with Huawei Super Charge technology and USB Type C. Hence I would like to check with experts here whether is there any good or available magnetic usb type c cable for Mate 9 that capable of doing quick charge.

You mean something like this?

I'm not aware of any cables that support supercharge other than the original Huawei cable.
Methinks there's an opportunity for someone to figure out the pin out of the cable and then build their own.

Yes something like this. But this will not support Huawei Mate 9 Super Charge right? As I heard it's the pin that matters which brings down to.. why? Hahaha! Aww man!
Hello,
I bought Cafele Magnetic cable with replaceable 3 heads (usb-c, micro usb and for Apple). When I tried the cable with Mipad 4, it worked. But when I tried with Mate9 and P30 Pro, computer says "usb device doesn't recognize", but charges. I tried with 3 pc's and all the same result. Is there anyone who experienced it? Is there any way to make these cables work with Huawei?
Hi all,
I've purchased OP7 Pro on launch and I'm happy that it supports DisplayPort. I'm going to be using desktop mode in my office. I would obviously need it to be charging while working.
Is there a 2 in 1 dongle solution where you can use display port and charge the phone at the same time?
Does USB C would even allow that kind of dongle and is it possible?
Any other solutions on my case?
Thanks in advance
Edit:
would something like this work?

I am trying this one with my OP7 and it is working pretty good.
