Hello xda'ns
I am a licensed Cerberus (Anti theft app) user and was wondering if there is way we can integrate the app into an OS so that the app stays in its active form even if someone factory resets the phone.
Thanks!

I am wondering if anyone has seen an application that allows you to put a security lock on individual applications you have on the android?
I use App Protector (Pro). Can't remember if it's pro or not. But it's real nice. You can password protect any app that you want. Literally any app.
Which do you guys prefer? I've used WaveSecure before, but I've read about Prey being the new thing. There's also Plan B and Lookout is their version of the locator software you can preinstall.

I haven't lost my phone yet (knock on wood), but any opinions on which you prefer?
Or what about Mobile Defense?
Prey: http://preyproject.com/
WaveSecure: https://www.wavesecure.com/
Mobile Defense: http://www.mobiledefense.com/
Lookout: https://www.mylookout.com/
There's also http://www.androidlost.com/
I use Cerebus. The best there is (I think) and great support.

Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I'm using TheftAware(.com).
*disables USB debugging
*remote control via sms // I've heard they're also on a web-based remote control
*only pay once
and and adn...
you're just able to get the installer. that installer will allow you to choose a custom name for that application. once installed (root not required but recommended) you'll setup a password and enabled the protection it will vanish from the appdrawer! the only chance to get to the menu again is to call your password.
if you call "1234" the program will show up!
fantastic program imo
€: if you flash a new ROM you HAVE TO REINSTALL it! Activation is just 1-click because the app will save your IMEI to the server.
I'm running androidlost atm. Works fantastic.
I did lose my last phone (galaxy s) thats why I got more then one app running.
Prey is also installed, I felt a bit lost with the app though.
Got Log2Calendar running wich syncs the call & sms log to a dedicated calendar. Isnt a security software, but it helped me last time it got stolen. App itself is not invisible in appdrawer, but you dont notice it running.
There is one serious issue with these apps, and that is that a factory reset wipes them. This is what they did with my phone. That or flashing it.
I know flashing is hard(impossible?) to prevent, however; it is unlikely they will flash it straightaway. The average user doesnt know anything about that, but does know the factory reset option.
Theft Aware survives factory resets even on rooted phones! And they are now backed up by Avast! www.appbrain.com/app/theft-aware-2-0-trial/at.itagents.ta_setup_mf
ESET Mobile Security also packs a locator feature: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eset.ems
I currently have my tablet setup with Cerberus and UAG tab to protect it from being stolen. I have ultimate app gaurd locking out personal info, root file broswers, settings, and the app market - so they can't delete anything in the chain or purchase apps on my play account. What I also want to do is lock app installs to my pin so they can't login to their play account and install root browser to delete security apps. What service controls these app installs?
Also, are there any measures someone like myself can take to secure recovery? I have some of this flashed to my rom for factory resets, but flashing a different rom over this could leave me vulnerable.
Hi Forum Members,
I wanted to implement device administration control on the devices which are using my app. The scenario here is I want to get control on the uninstall of the app. Since with lock mechanism, I will lock the settings from user thereby denying the user access to settings and hence user can't uninstall apps which are under device administration control. I achieved the same with my Celkon Tab and Motorola mobiles but the problem arises with Honor Tab( media type T3 10) where when the user tries to uninstall the same app which is under device admin control it will not intent to the setting but directly uninstalls the app from the device. This shouldn't have happened since every app with device admin control code should have gone to settings and only if the user unchecked the device admin control feature he would be able to uninstall. Any help regarding the same will be highly appreciated.

Sounds shady, like you want control of other people's devices to prevent them from uninstalling your app.
Shady business like that could be used to put a privacy invading app on someone's device to spy on them and prevent them from uninstalling the app, forcing them to leave themselves exposed to snooping.
This kind of thing could also be used to prevent uninstalling the app so that you can continue making money on ads associated with the app.
Shady business, either way.
The only way I can see this being a legitimate purpose is if it involves owning a business with business owned/controlled devices with the app installed on the devices being used by employees for company purposes and preventing them from uninstalling the app to protect the business purposes for the app. In this case, it would be better to just make the app a system app somehow then prevent the user from having root access, in this scenario, the user wouldn't have the ability to uninstall the app unless they rooted the device themselves.

Hi there
On older versions of Android I had Anti-Theft apps that were very powerful. Some of the features I really liked were
- Automatically send an SMS to a predefined nr., when new SIM is inserted.
- App is not deleted, even after factory reset.
- GPS can be turned on remotely.
Cerebrus seems to be a good solution, but they ask for a yearly fee. I don't mind to pay for an App, but I don't like periodical fees... Any suggestions
Then, I would need to systemize that app for it to survive factory resets. Does anybody have experience with that?
Thanks for your help
