I currently have my tablet setup with Cerberus and UAG tab to protect it from being stolen. I have ultimate app gaurd locking out personal info, root file broswers, settings, and the app market - so they can't delete anything in the chain or purchase apps on my play account. What I also want to do is lock app installs to my pin so they can't login to their play account and install root browser to delete security apps. What service controls these app installs?
Also, are there any measures someone like myself can take to secure recovery? I have some of this flashed to my rom for factory resets, but flashing a different rom over this could leave me vulnerable.

Which do you guys prefer? I've used WaveSecure before, but I've read about Prey being the new thing. There's also Plan B and Lookout is their version of the locator software you can preinstall.

I haven't lost my phone yet (knock on wood), but any opinions on which you prefer?
Or what about Mobile Defense?

I use Cerebus. The best there is (I think) and great support.

you're just able to get the installer. that installer will allow you to choose a custom name for that application. once installed (root not required but recommended) you'll setup a password and enabled the protection it will vanish from the appdrawer! the only chance to get to the menu again is to call your password.
if you call "1234" the program will show up!
fantastic program imo
€: if you flash a new ROM you HAVE TO REINSTALL it! Activation is just 1-click because the app will save your IMEI to the server.
I'm running androidlost atm. Works fantastic.
I did lose my last phone (galaxy s) thats why I got more then one app running.
Prey is also installed, I felt a bit lost with the app though.
Got Log2Calendar running wich syncs the call & sms log to a dedicated calendar. Isnt a security software, but it helped me last time it got stolen. App itself is not invisible in appdrawer, but you dont notice it running.
There is one serious issue with these apps, and that is that a factory reset wipes them. This is what they did with my phone. That or flashing it.
I know flashing is hard(impossible?) to prevent, however; it is unlikely they will flash it straightaway. The average user doesnt know anything about that, but does know the factory reset option.
Theft Aware survives factory resets even on rooted phones! And they are now backed up by Avast! www.appbrain.com/app/theft-aware-2-0-trial/at.itagents.ta_setup_mf
ESET Mobile Security also packs a locator feature: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eset.ems
Is there a way (app?) to prevent others from installing apps on my phone? Like something that would require a password every time an app tries to install? Im running ICS on a G2X and it has a device admin section but i have no option to set it up. any ideas would be helpful. thanks.
Device admin is for certain options in an app, like turning the screen off. You have to enable it for that app, like a special permission, and disable it before you can uninstall the app. Only certain functions in certain apps require device administrator, and you must not have anything installed that uses it.
However if you could password protect the package installer using an app locking program then this would prevent others from installing apps. I don't know if any of those apps allow password protecting the package installer since I don't use them, but this would do it. You would need to password protect any means of uninstalling the app as well - settings, market, any uninstaller apps, your home replacement if it allows you to drag and drop to uninstall, etc. This would be a pain, and you'd be better off just password protecting the entire phone.
Thanks for the help. I'll try locking package installer and see how that goes. I'm just trying to keep my wife from installing apps that monitor my phone activity lol.
1)I have rooted the Android phone. Xperia Tipo.
2)Installed the Root explorer, Permissions Denied, Droidwall, Startup Manager, Adfree, Busybox, Titanium Backup.
3)I was planning to use the Comodo Mobile Security (including antivirus and a live monitoring firewall)
Do I need to remove anything from the previously installed set of apps? Because even if I have droidwall, It only blocks applications as a whole. I cannot stop the apps from doing specific spying like- phonebook photo, access. etc.
The ****ty google has lot of apps that keep logged in. I tried to block one service from startup, and youtube stopped working.
I dont want to permanently block them. I only want these apps to login and access only when I need.
What should I do?
I know I asked two or more questions in one topic, despite of the title. But, hope someone tells me.
Dude I can understand what you want because I also hate such google apps running in background so do the following
Go to (settings<apps<all)and find the app you want "for example" take YouTube select it and click "Disable"
(before tat click force stop to save RAM) The app will be freezed and will not run until you again go and enable it...
PS:The disabled app will be in the dead bottom in (settings<apps<all) you can go there and "Enable" it again when you really need to use the app.
HIT THANKS IF I HELPED YOU:thumbup:

Try Anti Theft Mobile Security
Try out Mobisecurity.net
It not only tracks location of lost mobile but also lock mobile remotely, send SIM change alert along with switched SIM number, wipe personal data when fallen into wrong hands.
Hi,
I recently bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2. very happy with the phone hardware, however the phone shipped with preinstalled apps that serve ads. I have run AVG and identified the preinstalled apps (which cannot be removed) and disabled those apps through Settings > Apps. I have also reset all of the defaults to change the Launcher to the Google Now launcher and things such as the default Mail and browser apps.
What i was hoping to get advise on, is simply disabling the apps enough to ensure that they can no longer cause a threat to the person using the phone, the ads have stopped running since I have done all of the above. Does disabling the app put the apps into a quarantine state where they are completely harmless or should I aim to permanently remove them?
I have tried to avoid rooting the phone (partly because I have never rooted a phone before) and also because of warranty concerns. Would a temporary root be a good compromise here? I also attempted to flash the rom with the global developers rom, however that didnt work when I attempted it and I kept getting the Install update.zip failed! update.zip signature verification failed.
At the moment the phone is stable fast and does not show ads like it did before disabling the apps and changing the launcher etc.... Have I done enough to protect any silent processes sending my data off to china?
Thanks for your help
Is it possible to stop triggering Google play protect even though SCANNING is OFF?
*I CANNOT keep an app that google play protect doesn't aprove of installed!!! Google play protect AUTOMATICALLY deletes my app without my permission!!!!
THERE IS NO LONGER "DEVICE SECURITY" IN THE SYSTEM APP LIST, so where is the security database kept for Google play protect?
I have had my favorite little unapproved app for 2 years now & am familiar with how to manipulate my phone. Everything is disabled, google notifications, app overdraw, allow less secure apps, Google play protect off, don't verify apps, don't update anything, and many services are disabled using an app called "package disabler pro".
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO TO STOP GOOGLE PLAY PROTECT FROM AUTOMATICALLY DELETING MY APP on a samsung galaxy 7?** I NEED THIS app TO WORK ON & run on an S7 unrooted nougat phone without Google play protect "protecting" me.
*Using google play protect settings (on/off) no longer works!* All apps are scanned regardless of settings.* When Google protect finds the app I wish to keep, IT insists on deleting it without my consent!
* Is there a way to kill the Google protect app process using package disabler pro (or similar app) or add my beloved app to the play protect ignore list/whitelist (Google does NOT give me the option to ignore)?
With overdraw & notifications enabled, Google play protect warns about installation. I tell Google it's ok. After installation, Google uninstalls it anyway. THIS OCCURS WHEN EVERY BUTTON/TOGGLE IS TURNED OFF/DON'T SCAN/ALLOW UNAPPROVED APPS/PLAY PROTECT OFF IN BOTH GOOGLE PLAY & IN GOOGLE SETTINGS.

Open playstore>playprotect>uncheck checking device for malware
as my post stated, play protect settings
Play protect settings are all off (don't scan), rechecked to confirm no changes (still "don't scan") both before & after install, both in Google settings and in Google play.
GOOGLE PLAY PROTECT still scans, still give no option other than "uninstall" unapproved app, & if I approve the installation of my app or block the Notifications, my app is still removed without my consent. THERE IS NO OPTION TO IGNORE.
Does anyone know??
Everything I can think of to turn off is turned off or blocked, including all tracking & SCANNING. I want to keep my unapproved app. How do I make Google play protect stop .... which background processes are new on Google play protect? How do I find out what they've changed?
giving up
Disabled google play on all devices.
There are alternatives to that app store
Were you ever able to do this? I've been trying unsuccessfully and it keeps insisting that I delete the app and disabling it
I feel it a kind of harassment by Google. Im mean they give you an option to turn off scanning and play protect yet they do not comply with there own policy. Its just a toggle to keep it ftom automatically uninstalling an app but its obviously Google continues scanning or there would not be a notification otherwise. If you go to Google more info its instructions that lead you to somewhere elso and at the end asks "was this helpful" as if they giva a ........? A few years aga people completed abot " G plus" forced installed , like it or not. Clised for Googles inability to secure isers information. Now its Instant Apps , "Google give ith and Google take ith away".
Did anyone ever get a solution to this? I'm having the same problem - everything disabled/enabled/selected/deselected, etc but Play Protect still sends a notification and uninstalls my app. The problem I'm having is that it doesn't happen immediately, rather on the next scan, so the app functions normally for an arbitrary length of time, then it's suddenly unavailable. This is annoying and disruptive and I'd love to know how to resolve the issue for good. Please advise...
I'm seeing this quirk as well, scanning is off yet it still triggers an alert for an app. Annoying.
