Hey guys, I use the Notes Field in Contacts extensively, since forever. Since updating to Nougat, I noticed, when I edit a longer notes field in a contact or add a new notes fields with more than a couple dozen characters, it gets cut off when saving the contact. And lost in the process. Anybody else have this problem? Is it a problem of the apk? Nougat? Google Contacts?
It's a very critical bug for me, since contacts is one of my most used applications. Thanks!

Nobody has the problem? Also, old contacts get cutoff, if just adding other info like email or another number... Gosh! How go substitute the Huawei contacts app?

Interesting: my friend who has a Mate 9, which came with Nougat, has the same problem. Seems to be a problem of the contacts apk that comes with Emui 5.x

Hmmmm... I might change my phone soon... Anyone having a recommendation about a phone that doesn't have the above problem?

I am using hangouts strictly for sms, is there a way to get rid of the stupid suggestions list?
Also is there a way to sync Facebook contact photos with it, they're sunbed already to my Gmail account.

I found it annoying initially too, what I had done was this. I hopped onto Google plus and disabled suggestions. With that I also found it annoying to have circles in my SMS contacts too so I just hid them.
Another thing you could do is logout from your g+ account on hangouts.

Hi, I have problems with whatsapp.
Often I lost my contacts and I need to sincronize it every time.
Any one have the same issue?
Having the same problem… it happens once every 2 days.
Anybody might have a solution?
Thanks
My p8 max was stolen, now I have another p8max, a new one, and I have the same problem.
Maybe it`s the huawei app that controls the application consumption;nI try to configure it, but the problem persisted.
i managed to solve the problem by doing a factory reset. then restoring
I have the same problem. I have to update my contacts sometimes. The App is protected and all permissions allowed.

I think it is the stock messaging app that does that if you use the third party messaging app you won't have that issue
Sorry, I don't understanding.
Whatapp is not a native app.
What do you mean?

I try this before with no luck.
I deleted, and installed again, and nothing.
It seam's that today I solved the problem by updating the app from the huawei market place.
Today I don't need to synchronize my contacts.
I will say you something on a few days.
Thanks

I was having the same issue then I noticed when I received a text message my WhatsApp contacts would hide. I installed Google Messenger as default messaging app and it fixed the WhatsApp problem. I know its wierd but thats true.
Perfect two ways to fix the problem.
Just install true contacts from play store. Fix the WhatsApp contact issue.

Basically the stock contacts app is the one that cause this issue... so solution is :
- install any other contacts app (I'm using Contacts+ app)
- set the default calling or sms to that 3rd party app
Voila.. problem solved... at least for me..
Sorry Grillote, I have both updated WhatsApp from the Huawei App Store and installed Google Messenger, but the problem persists.
I'll try to install a third party contacts App, as some fellows have suggested.

Yes, me to, this time it`s take a long time to stop the sync, but the problem persist.
I try to change the contact app.

Sorry to hear that. I oso installed third party phone and contact app( true dialer) for more than 1 week. Set as default. No issue so far.
It seems that the latest whatsapp version managed to keep the contacts from disappearing!

No luck, with the last update, the problem persists.
Guys, I'm coming from the LG G2, still with a Kitkat Rom and planning to buy this phone. I played around with it in the store today and have some troubles understanding how it might work for me.
Example, I have about 3.500 contacts synced in my Google Account, neatly organized in Groups, which I use heavily and don't want to give up.
As I understand, Huawei uses its own contact manager as a substitute to the Google Contacts app, as far as I could see it would allow for Contact Groups also.
How would I go about using it? Google seems to be not supporting Groups anymore since Lollipop & Marshmallow (that's one of the reasons why I never updated my G2 with newer Roms). Although the contact manager from LG was always just a tuned version of the Google app, if I'm not wrong.
How did you get your existing contacts from your Google account into the Huawei Contact Manager? And did it transfer existing Groups also? The model they sell here seems to be the international version (L29).
Thanks for your help!
Nobody is using groups to organize their contacts? Wow, I thought it's more common...
Im sure there is a contactapp for you in the playstore
Yes, but the standard Google Marshmallow app doesn't support groups anymore..... Hmmm....
I can confirm now, that the group management works with the Huawei contact manager, if anybody has the same inquiry.

My contacts are managed on Exchange Outlook server. and I have no problems syncing them on Mate 8, as every group is present
Google Contacs
Is there any way to get Google contacts on Mate 8 NXT-AL10?
Play store say not compatible with you device. I have copied them from my other phone to this phone but would like to keep everything synced.
Not sure if this should've been posted under Xperia Z5 or Android General forum, but here is goes: a friend got married and changed names. I went to update her entry under Contacts and so far so good. Easy job. Now here is the weird thing: Text messages under "Messages" are still showing her with her old name. I even tried completely deleting all texts and the contact entry under Contacts and recreating her entry. As soon as I texted her to test if it worked, her OLD name showed up under Messaging.
What is going on here? Kinda annoying and not sure if there is an rational explanation why this would happen.
Any feedback or ideas? Should some sort of cache be cleared?
This is for a Z5C with Marshmallow recently upgraded. Stock Firmware. Not rooted.
Thanks in advance,
OldSkewler

Go to the desktop page of Google contacts and ensure your changes are there too. And then force resync your Google account on your device.

Nope, this didnt work: first I don't use Google Contacts (phone only) but I did try to search for the entry under Google Contacts (maybe it syncs regardless, I thought) but the entry is not even listed there under Google.
This is definitely something local to the phone I think.
Thanks for the feedback though!

That's interesting, I imagine the local contacts just doesn't play well with its text message counterpart. Should be a z5 problem.
What if you switch to a 3rd party sms app, such as textra?

Hi ,
Just received my mate 9 from China with GMS Core and Play installed but can't get my google contacts to sync??
Can anyone help asap???
Many thanks!?!

You must download the APK from online sources like this one above and after that, you should have no problem reaching out to your contacts.
Same for the Calendar sync APK file. That should be all that you need.
Have Fun!
Thanks mate! Worked like a charm...
You can also get the Google contacts app there and use it rather than Huawei's contact app.

Thanks.
Just wish there was a decent dual sim dialler as I like to assign sims to contacts as I use my phone for work too.
I saw something on Play store like that, cannot recall app name but it let choose SIM to call from after you click a contact number.

But this is how it works right now.... You press a contact and open o new window asking you which sim to make the call sim 1 or sim 2...
I think that he wants sim association contacts... The only device that work with it is LG G4, LG V10,LG V20 all dual sim...LG is the only device that you can assign contacts to a sim without have to choose every time which sim... But it doesn't has the "Always ask" option...
You can install and try from playstore "true phone diler & contact" that manage both options but some times is getting mess up with stock diler... It will be great if you could freeze or disable stock diler....
When you select a contact in the dialer, it shows the two sims and it tells you also which sim was used last time for this contact. It is not a fixed connection between contact and sim, but for me it is a good approach. I'm not willing to go through all my contacts to connect them to a sim. And probably redo this when moving to another phone.
Thanks Guys. Currently using True Caller. Moto do a great implementation of this...
Try drupe dialer from playstore

Just like to say thanks. Bought the Mate 9 from China Aliexpress with AL00 china model. Having problem syncing all my contacts via the google account. Finally fix the issue with this thread. Thanks again.
I just notice my google contacts are not being synchronized despite having the latest apk installed. I have reinstalled the app giving it full permission and still not able to synch my contacts last synch is dated Feb 11
last update: deleting and re-adding the gmail account fixed the problem
Thanks, I just had same problem with my Mate9 from China; moreover GMS core were not installed and so no Gmail, no Playstore etc. I had to install gms core from Hiapp(in the phone), and after that install all the google apps one by one from the store. Now all run fine! Thanks again
Hi!
I tried this but it keep saying that the App can't open =/
It redirects me to the HiApp version, which is in Google Contacts but with a Chinese Title.
Any ideas anyone?
