A friend got a brand new 128GB Pixel from Verizon running 7.1.1 and the OEM Unlocking tab is not greyed out...
Has anyone else seen this?

Yeah... Normal unlock process. I'm hoping so. Might need to exchange my blue XL with Google in hopes of getting an unlockable one.

Nice. No more depixel8 then.
When you re-lock what's generally the best and safest accepted practice ? Flash all stock images, reboot, make sure oem unlock is checked just incase, reboot to bootloader, then oem lock ?

Yes, purchased from Verizon yesterday on 7.1.1 (January update) and was able to toggle the OEM Unlock switch and unlock it just as you would a Google Play version.

I realize that... it was kinda the point in the thread. Was wondering if anyone else who recently purchased had similar experience. Was kinda hoping Verizon has quit making bootloader perma-locked.
Yea there have been a few others on here and Reddit lately that got them from Verizon and were able to unlock. Verizon will never change its stance on bootloaders so I'm guessing it has something to do with them being backordered all the time and maybe they aren't worried right now with locking them
Wow not bad. Myself, I don't have Verizon, I just have a regular pixel I unlocked.
I recently purchased new Pixel on eBay and it turned out to be a Verizon model. It came with 7.1.1 February patch and phone updated to March. OEM unlocking is grayed out at the moment.
is there any way to force to unlock the bootloader today? because depixel8 0.3 doesnt work for me right now

Probably factory oversight. I know it isn't due to Verizon not caring.

Did you activate the phone with Verizon sim card and then checked for "OEM unlocking setting"? OR you had no sim card, but were on wifi only?
Op, you received a Google device. If you went through asurion, it's most certainly a Google device

The other problem is with the software, this has 4.0.4 2.20 and can't find the way to root it and I tried the unlock the boot loader on htcdev and allways shows an error.
Really need help with this two problems.

I am passing the same s.hit with the ROOT an unfortunately there is no way to root it right now!
Enjoy!
So I know this Phone is still new, but is there any progress on Root with latest firmeware or Unlocking Bootloader??
If there is where are the threads? I've searched and didnt find much. Im a little worried that with the Samsung S4 and htc one around this phone wont get any love.
Unfortunately we just have to be patient, there is no ETA on root or unlocked bootloader. But from what I read Motorolla is making very hard to unlock there phones. Unless its a dev phone, but I would just be happy with root.

Also beware of the update that wants to install, i would hold off on installing that in case they patch up a exploit.
Root is definitely a necessity. Realistically, I don't see the point of a custom ROM since, IMO, the whole point of buying one of these things is for all of the out of the box customizations. It would suck to lose them for some subpar custom ROM experience.

AFAIK, if you bought this phone and hoped for root. You have been sadly mistaken. I don't forsee root in your immediate future. If you can't stand the thought of not having root then you should return the device.

OK I've been using XDA for a while to find ways to root phones and get custom Roms and recoveries even used it to take a Samsung s2 up to Android 6.0 I'm proud of you devs but this phone I just got and there's literally nothing I can find about it. I've found how to unlock the bootloader and it's simple open up the dev options and it's in there but so far no root no recoveries and no Roms which surprised me anyone willing to work on it I'm up for testing
Over 900 requesting root from KingRoot so anyone willing to do this it'll be obviously appreciated by many and if found could possibly sell it to people making the one touch rooting apps

On a negative note, the bootloader on the 5027B appears to be locked down tight. This, of course, negates the notion of flashing a custom recovery or custom boot.img. I am researching any viable options for bootloader unlocking.
Mine you just need to open developer options and unlock the OEM

Allowing OEM Unlocking in Developer Options doesn't unlock your bootloader per se. It merely allows for bootloader unlocking to be done. My Moto G3, for example, to unlock the bootloader, OEM Unlocking had to be enabled in Dev Options before I could proceed to use Minimal adb & fastboot to unlock my bootloader via Motorola's website. I'm not seeing much on methods to unlock Alcatel bootloader, or Boost Mobile's specific policy on the 5027B bootloader.
Edit: it appears as though fastboot oem unlock will unlock this bootloader, in the adb & fastboot directory. I'll update with findings.

Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
My understanding, not as a programmer by any means...is that the phone needs to have an unlocked bootloader prior to even having the ability to gain root. If the service provider (Verizon) doesn't unlock this, root cannot happen in a traditional sense. Carriers such as T-Mobile have a root for this phone as they come with unlocked bootloaders. You wont see root on the Verizon variant.

no there isnt hope unless u figure it out the "experts" have tried time and time again
the bootloaders arent locked they are signed with a very special key that would take ever computer together in the worl roughly 200000 years plus to brute force into. verizon and att are the worst
now you all know. as said before if u wanted to root you should have studied before buying a "locked" device
if u want root either get a rootable device or figure it out on your own
as with the g4 there will more than likely never be root for these "locked" devices
not being an ass just the cold hard truth

they cant unlock the bootloader or it would have been done
lgs verity key prevents this through qfused motherboards highly encrypted partitions that the bootloader verifys and if one thing is off bam lg secure boot error.
which again is basicly hardcoded into the device.
no one is going to waste their time trying a 99.9% impossible feat
The phone is just not popular enough the Verizon Galaxy S7 I believe is unlocked for the bootloader. If the phone is popular enough a developer will work on it.

Please let me know if you have tried or know someone who has. Thanks
Hi,
Has anyone ever tried one click root dot com ? They explicitly mention that they can root the vs987 variant. I'm willing to pay if someone can confirm me that it really works...
Thanks

Does it work? Been strangely quiet on the root-front.

You need to be on marshmallow or have anti-rollback to be 0 which <1% of ppl have. Also, it's not a complete root, so although you have root permissions, it's unstable and you have no root manager (SuperSU/Magisk/etc.)

T-Mobile network unlocked my OnePlus 8 for me and I enabled OEM unlocking and was able to get my unlock code but there is no option for the OnePlus 8 on the website where you submit the application... so how do I get my unlock token?
If you don't mind me asking, how did you get it unlocked? Did you pay in full?

I unlocked the sim to and enabled the OEM unlock from the developer's option.
Seems like their token page hasn't updated the oneplus 8 yet.

Yes it has. OEM Unlock, at least on t-mobile, is grayed out.

It will not be greyed out once you are sim unlocked, then you can toggle it.
So now we just play the waiting game?

Yep. Sadly. Contacted Oneplus multiple times and their support don't know what I mean by bootloader then they refer me to the existing page, telling me to contact T-mobile etc.. I keep checking if the page has been updated to include the 8 evert few hours.
Also, the page that has the OP firmwares hasn't been updated to include the 8 series. Don't know what they're up to.

Hopefully that's a good sign. Their support has been ignoring me about this.

I called them and the woman I spoke to told me that they are "working on adding it"... that was I think 4 days ago.

Yeah, I've tried them multiple times and get told to go to T-Mobile. It's getting pretty irritating.

Same here.
Interesting enough, if you go to your account and put your IMEI it will show it but it won't accept it on the unlock page. https://www.oneplus.com/customer/device

Yep, I made sure the IMEI was registered. No dice.

Yeah what's interesting is if you out the IMEI in swappa it doesn't detect it as well. Not sure what's going wrong here.
I found people had issues with this page before on older OnePlus phones. Something is not syncing.

That was happening for a while with the TMobile mclaren. Eventually they took care of this issue. Just one of many with TMobile OnePlus users unfortunately.

Yeah we've been posting. Looks like the issue is being elevated beyond customer service.
