I've never run into that with stock recovery but I had that issue with clockworkmod a long time ago.
You might verify you have the correct update zip for your tablet.
Usually that error comes from the tag in the updater script being for another model.
It could also be that the zip you have isn't official and needs to be installed from non stock recovery.
If you are full stock anyways I would recommend just using the Samsung switch software to run the update instead (unless you have a reason to install a version below the latest.)
i tried installing switch and it errors saying something about side by side configuration is incorrect im on windows 7 64

Looks like the same issue found here: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tablets/Smart-Switch-won-t-start-side-by-side-configuration-problem/td-p/50275
According to that post you need to find and install the following:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
Sorry about that, it just straight worked for me when I used it last. Hopefully this helps.
is there root for 5.1.1?
got kies running but i wont go 5.1.1 unless i can keep root
kies says my device not supported? is that because i debloated it?

I think that depends what model you have.
I'm on the Verizon P905V model so for me there is no root for 5.1.1 and the bootloader is locked so I dont have custom recovery.
if you have a model that allows custom recovery as indicated in your first post you would be better off flashing a custom rom if one is available.

quick question, i have the same verizon model p905v and been putting off updating, currently on 4.4.2, i used to have root, but no longer b/c i took an update by accident.
my main thing is the multi-window apps drawer, can you still add apps to that drawer that aren't "officially" supported for multi-window? i use this function almost 100% of the time i'm using the tablet since i use it in my car as GPS/podcast/music player. i use this app currently to help with that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xpe.app.multiwindow.commander
when i open the app, it says i don't have root, but the app still lets me add apps the the multiwindow apps drawer that weren't there by default.
is there any way you can test this out or if someone else can chime in on that, i'd appreciate that.
I tried the app you posted but without root it doesn't seem to work .
It let's you make the changes within the app but they revert when you reboot, and you have to reboot for them to go through.

I have a note 10.1 8010 with clock work recovery installed. I just went to install the new ota update but when i clicked install and it restarted, it went to the clockwork recovery screen and said that it could not verify the whole signature so it aborted.
I bought the tablet second hand and while it has clockwork on, it doesn't appear to have cyanogen or anything else. I'm a bit confused as to how I now update to the latest firmware so that I can get the new premium suite features. I've rooted devices before and have heard conflicting reports as to whether ota updates will kill my root.
Attached is my system summary, please could someone direct me as to the best route to take? Thank you in advance!

You will need to get the stock recovery or wait on a cwm flashable rom.
I would suggest download the UK rom which is complete flash it using Odin and you should be fine
I do not advice installing OTA using CWM as it is a very complicated process

Thanks for your replies guys. Unfortunately this is complicated further because I only have access to a stupid Mac at the moment so I cant use Odin. Is there any other way round it or do i just have to hang on for a CWM version?

I was wondering if rooting is possible on T-mobile's LG G2 yet on the 4.4.2 KitKat update. I had root privileges before and then when I updated I lost them. I'm not interested in going back to 4.2.2. Then I came across ioroot25, claiming to have added support for 4.4.2 devices. The process was only like 2 steps, the first being to root into recovery. Whenever I try to do that I see the little android dude on my screen for a fraction of a second saying something like installing system update (main point being, the root batch file from ioroot25 isn't getting the device to go into recovery, meaning I CAN'T accept the adb update, which was step two)
ANY SOLUTION?

From what I understand, the d801 is the only device that there's this problem with. It doesn't work at the moment but they're working on a fix for it.
Freegee is working for recovery now tho once u get root.
Yeah, really sucks... T-Mobile is a no go atm. No way to boot into stock recovery from 4.4.2

For all other G2 models, the ioroot method (version 25) works. One prerequisite for that method is access to recovery. We (d801 owners) do not have access to recovery. Attempts to access recovery are being documented in the thread titled "[Please Read] We need help to try and find out how to get into stock 4.4 recovery!" Keep your eye on that thread. If we can get access to recovery, we can use ioroot.
Just wondering if anyone had any luck with the workarounds for our device? If so please post what ROM's work and which workaround worked. Also post whether the boot loader needed to be locked or not. I have been working since I found the official app last night, but So far no luck. I'm trying many custom ROMS as I don't really want another stock ROM, Hence why I am rooted. Anyway, any help would be boss! Thanks!
For me, it just has Google Play Services crashing whenever I try to add a card. This was after disabling SuperSU.

did you try stock rooted thats my next attempt after I charge phone up a little. I been reading up and it seems stock rooted with supersu removing stock or xposed rootcloak work. Just nandroid and try it out nobody says you have to use it but if that works it may give us an insight on what to target for getting it to work
Yes, so far I believe thats what I read. At this point I have read a lot. The two methods involve unchecking enable superuser in supersu and then the root cloak method via xposed. Neither have worked in every custom ROM so far. I may try CM nightlies tho.
just an fyi i tried stock for the hell of it and it worked with just unchecking supersu root option. Maybe a buildprop edit to trick it to think its a basic stock rom may work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/rom-cyanogen-os-12-1-rooted-cleaned-t3187016
Update. I have found a mothod that works, haven't tried the "pay" part, but I have Android Pay activated and working. The above link is the a rooted ROM with some mods that works. Its CM OS 12.1 and seems pretty stable, etc.
The method I used
1 Bootloader is locked. Just so you know. But all operations will function that you need.
1 Install ROM (use the link above for details, NO GAPPS NEEDED)
2 DENY ROOT/SUPERSU installation.
3 Boot ROM as normal
4 Open SuperSU
5 Click Enable SuperSU (This disables it/Unchecks the box. You will see a prompt saying uninstalling SuperSU)
6 Reboot
7 Install Google Play Services then Android Pay (APK's found on the web, GPS is 8.1.13)
8 Open Android Pay and follow prompts to install cards
9 Open SuperSU and recheck Enable SuperSU
At this point the phone is rooted and Android Pay is set up. I tried to do another card but got the same old error "cannot verify Android bs."
My conclusions:
If the ROM has a root option under developer settings, then Android Pay will not work. This ROM does NOT have that but instead has SuperSU installed. ROMS that have both will NOT function, I tried 3 or 4 today that did not work. I imagine they need to be CM based at this time as well. I bet someone better than me will come up with a better solution. This combination works for me. If anyone needs help, PM me. Also, If anyone has anything to add, Please do! Thanks!!!

basicaly what I was saying it works on stock ONEPlus roms only it seems and you just have to deny root when adding cards. I tried to use lil while ago but it said my cards were not available yet to use with Android Pay
Just wanted to chime in with my post from another thread to consolidate threads:
I am running COS 12.1, rooted, with an unlocked bootloader. I recently upgraded to Android Pay after using Google Wallet for NFC payments for years on my old GS4 and my OnePlus One.
At first, I was unable to add my payment card due to being rooted. Easily fixed, I unrooted using SuperSU to do a full unroot and was able to add my card and complete the app setup.
The showstopper is that whenever I try to use it at a merchant, I end up with a screen that says Confirm your password - you must unlock to use Android Pay. No matter how many times I enter my password it just keeps asking over and over. I disabled the quick unlock feature under lock screen settings just in case that was the issue, but it made no difference. An ongoing support case with Google just came back with the following:
"The specific error message that you saw means that your device can't support Android Pay's advanced security. It seems that the phone manufacturer has modified the operating system to the point where it is no longer compatible with our software. You may want to use Android Pay on a different device for the most secure payments."
just as an update i re-flashed stock rom and realized using xposed and make any additional changes to the system folder causes it not to work whether I have supersu checked off or not. Now with that said i have it working fine with stock and having supersu loaded from twrp and play store nothing else. I also set up a tasker command to uncheck supersu prior to me using Android Pay. 1 click I guess I waas being lazy

I have tried disabling root and root cloak. I am on Exodus rom and it has "morph mode" where I tried both methods in Exodus mode and AOSP mode. If this helps narrow down the problem.
For me on Exodus (haven't tried any of the morph modes), the unlocked bootloader seems to be the culprit. Hopefully someone figures out a workaround.

bootloader is not the problem. Android Pay is looking for more than likely specific files in your system that are missing in AOSP or custom roms. I flashed stock and as long as I uncheck SuperSu its been working fine for me. I have added several cards over the past week

android authority has it and if you do a google search for it you will find it. also know that you have to un-tick auto updates in Google Play. I wiped data in Google play, Google Play Services prior to installing the now outdated version. I had to do this so that when I loaded the older version it will try and update the moment you try and set it up.
Hi, new here and looking for some info. I recently bought a used Verizon GN5 unlocked on eBay and using it here in Japan. However, it's still on Android 5.1.1 and I want to upgrade to 6.0. problem is, it keeps saying that software update is not available and asking me to try again. Is it not possible to just connect to Wi-Fi and install the upgrade. With Docomo it's possible. TIA

Download Smart Switch for PC or Mac: http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/
Install.
Run.
Plug your phone in.
It will say there's an update available and ask if you'd like to download it.
Say yes, and wait.
I'm having the exact same problem (using a Verizon Note 5 in Europe).
I tried the (latest version of) Smart Switch, but the installation hangs at the beginning; is it possible the SM-N920V isn't supported? Or am I doing something wrong?
@blindmanpb, thank you very much. It worked perfectly. That's why I love Samsung, support for every minute detail on their devices.

Hello, I've read somewhere here that without a Verizon SIM you cannot get OTA on this model . also on my device smart switch does not work with updating, it keeps saying something about server error. The only way I could get it to update was to use the Verizon Updater from the phone. Never thought that Verizon could be such a bunch of retards with such limitations. I wish I could convert it to a 920C model but it does not seem possible

You can either download the firmware update that you want to install and flash it via recovery using side load if you know how or just download odin from @Misterxtc post above and use that on Windows to flash it... The easiest way is odin.

What should we do? For myself at this moment, I do not need root or custom roms. I have read many people recommending staying on stock for OTAs updates right now. The only reason I want TWPR is for the nandroid backups of the stock rom. Is it even possible to update stock, the OTA updates and reapply the unlock bootloader and TWPR afterwards? I know TWPR is still being working on at this moment. Also, is there even a stock rom [for FRD-AL04???] without root available through TWPR right now?
I believe I have FRD-AL04 which is the US/32 gig phone, right? Is this the correct model? Here is the link to amazon page.
Mine is the US 32gb black Honor 8 and model number is FRD-L04
Edit: Check your model number in the Settings > About Phone screen.

On whether to stay stock or not... it's up to you. I unlocked my phone, which wipes it, then installed TWRP and SuperSU for root. Kept the ROM stock. But then I realized I forgot to do OTA updates first. Doing a quick update failed because TWRP didn't know what to do. I then selected a "Full Update" in the menu of the Updater. This actually completely wiped out my unlocked bootloader, recovery and root in one swoop. So now I am back to stock it seems so I'll have to unlock and start over if I want to redo it. But I'm not sure I am going to. I started using Helium made by the team that made ClockworkMod. It isnt able to back up ALL app data, but it does get a nice chunk of it which I think will be good enough for me for now.
Stay on stock until company stops pushing out OTA updates. I do this on all my phones.

Few questions if you don't mind.
1. Are you saying that even with unlocked bootloader and custom recovery you're still able to accept the OTA?
2. How would you restore the apps&data after accepting the OTA and going throu the unlocking/rooting process over again? Does Helium handle this w/o problems?
Thanks.
well, your question is complicated... but it has many type of sollutions
1.if its the nandroid backup is the only thing you want, then try backing up via honorsuit app,,
2.you can unlock the bootloader( dont worry you still be getting updates after this)
install twrp
make a backup
and find if someone did a backup with stock recovery
grab it
restore..
now you have your backup and youl be elligable for ota
3. if theres no one done a backup of stock recovery, dont worry... you can do it
unlock bootloader
now type fastboot devices
fastboot boot recovery twrp.img
this will temperorily boot twrp and you can have your backup
and BTW, you better be on stock, because, there is no stable custom rom yet and you are nearly getting a nougat update..:good:

1. Yes, but only if you select the FULL download update in the menu of the updater (which says it's around 1.6GB). This will wipe out your unlock, TWRP and root though. At least it did for me.
2. I don't know, I didn't re-unlock it because it was going to wipe my phone again. I decided to stay stock for now using Helium backup to backup my apps, SMS, etc.

I also had this problem at first. I ended up having to switch from using their chrome add-on to installing the client for my OS (OS X in my case). So if you're using the chrome add-on try installing one of the clients instead.

Ok thanks, but I am already using the OSX app myself. Managed to get it to work just now, had to reboot and now can't get it to work again. Some say to select 'midi' instead of ptp to get it to work, but that doesn't work for me either. Seems its a timing thing and I have't worked it out yet.
Not having a cross platform backup mechanism certainly doesn't help people stay stock without root imho.
