Safest Rom - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hey guys, I want to try a rom completely without Google. Which rom should I use? Lineage os isn't ready for sailfish. Any advises? Data privacy is the most important for this "experiment"
Thanks

Wait for CopperheadOS

CopperheadOS is only shipped with the pixel sold by copperhead. The standalone firmware wont be for free download. Maybe you can buy it some day..
Any other ideas for operating system or how to make android a little safer? What are you guys doing?

But they have a download link for Pixel on their website: https://copperhead.co/android/downloads
Is it because they say: "available via purchase soon"?

You need a login to download it. I assume you only get a login after purchasing a license from them.

I tried to build it two times. The first built with no errors but the files weren't in zip format and I couldn't figure how to flash them. My second failed because I still need to get by build environment set up again. I just re-installed Linux a few days. I just switched to Linux Mint permanently a few weeks ago from Windows so I've been dealing with the transition. I have the source downloaded so I'll be tinkering with that when I have time. Hopefully something good will happen in a few days on my end. Till then this thread needs to be moved to the Q&A section. I'm glad you threw the question out there and hopefully others will join the party.

My guess is that they don't mind private builds. However, I would doubt they would be okay with a build being posted in a forum like this. Also, from reading their website it appears when you pay, you're getting the support of the devs directly as well as their updates pushed directly to your phone without having to do new builds like you will without a license. I could be slightly off but I think that was the gist of it.

Same here. I used to build ROMs for Samsung and AOSP is pretty foreign to me but I am learning. It's quite a bit for me between real life, a new OS and AOSP. It's cool though, my 40+ year old brain was getting a bit stale.... Anyway I tried again today for a few hours and made some progress. I successfully compiled a generic build but when I try sailfish I get a user error and it tells me to change user. Seeing that the official build isn't available for purchase I think they blocked the build process some way. I can compile Pure Nexus no problem so it's not my set up, probably their directions. But on the other hand it could be on my end. Either way I'll still be looking into it.
Is there a way to compile this os with gapps already built in for personal use. After building and flashing it on my phone I found the lack of certain Google services very annoying. Flashing gapps after installing the os didn't work. Also if you're on T-Mobile no data connection unless you change settings in apn, I wonder if flashing stock vendor img would help with that.

[SOURCE][9.0][OFFICIAL][A750F/FN] Kernel & Platform A750FNPUU1BSC4 released

Hi everybody,
Official Android Pie Kernel and Platform sources has been released for A750FN!
version : A750FNPUU1BSC4 - SM-A750
(Can't post extLinks yet, so make a search for SM-A750 on opensource.samsung.com to find the archive)
I'm not experienced in porting, but AFAIK this should be a really good entry point to start porting to our device recovery & ROMs and having official releases...!
So I'll start digging into this as soon I can find some spare time! =)

[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][PIE][ALPHA] LineageOS 16.0 for BQ Aquaris X5 plus (gohan)

EDIT:
Hello friends,
I want to port BQ Aquaris X5 Plus that was formerly supported by LineageOS
to the newest LineageOS 16, based on Pie, eventually passing by LOS 15.1
I'd like this thread to be a coordination point for this task.
Currently the most up to date tree is by aquaris-dev team:
https://github.com/aquaris-dev/android_device_bq_gohan/tree/lineage-15.1
Contributions, especially building, testing an reporting/fixing bugs are very welcome!
Let's do this!
Stuck on the BQ logo at boot unfortunately
Are you still maintaining it?
I'm currently working on it thanks to a donated device.
I decided to start porting from cm-14.1 to lineage-15.1 because jumping straight to lineage-16 seemed hard.
Also i found out that LeEco Le 2 has the same SoC as Aquaris X5 and has been ported from cm-14.1 to lineage-15.1
So the changes done there are a good reference:
https://github.com/LineageOS/android_device_leeco_s2/compare/cm-14.1...lineage-15.1
Currently Lineage 15.1 is compiling but it's stuck at BQ logo just like Pie rom.
I've pushed all the changes to
https://github.com/Nimayer/android_device_bq_gohan/tree/lineage-15.1
https://github.com/Nimayer/android_kernel_bq_msm8976/tree/lineage-15.1
Hi urobbot!
I had a chat with two members of android-hilfe.de (Matador and moosburger) which might be of interest to you. There is a community "aquaris-dev" which supports the BQ devices on lineage. They have their own repository on github. It is aquaris-dev/android_device_bq_gohan/tree/lineage-15.1. According to Matador there is a bootable image for Oreo which - according to his understanding - doesn't do much more yet (but at least boots).
He also mentioned that he intended to go through the sources of the Leeco le2 s2, which already has Pie.
I hope any of this information might prove helpful!
P.S: Sorry for not linking the repo directly - my post count is too low to post outside links

The aquaris-dev team is the one maintaining official LineageOS build for some BQ phones.
I didn't knew they kept also unofficial ports.
I think this is the source we are talking about:
https://github.com/aquaris-dev/android_device_bq_gohan/tree/lineage-15.1
Too bad I didn't knew about it, so I did some duplicate work.
In the next days I will try the lineage-15.1 from aquaris-dev and see if I can make some improvements.

I know, but apparently the lineage-16.0 branch of leeco s2 is no different from the lineage-15.1 branch,
https://github.com/LineageOS/android_device_leeco_s2/tree/lineage-16.0
and there's no prebuild LOS 16 available from lineageos.org, so I don't know if it actually has Pie.

Of course it is, thank you!
P.S. Trying to debug my LineageOS 15, I managed to port postmarketOS to bq-gohan (the display is still broken though)
And I learned the hard way that the msm8976 kernel for gohan does not boot if compiled with anything more recent than GCC4.
Yes it is optimised for gcc 4.8.
If i can help you, please ASK.
If it helps im native speaking German.

No sure whether it's currently helpful for you: a few weeks ago I updated the kernel to 3.10.108
It compiled fine, i.e. I was able to create a LineageOS 14.1 version for Gohan, unfortunately I was not yet able to test it, as the phone is currently my primary phone and I need to prepare it for development first (doing a backup of all stuff, moving important applications to a backup device, etc.) and as is is encrypted and the sdcard is partly used as internal memory preparation takes a bit of time.
From sunday I'll go on vacation, and I'll have mobile internet only and a small SSD space (less than 100GB of LineageOS source).
So I'll continue working on gohan when I'll come back home, around 21 of August.

AndDiSa, that's really cool!
If you want to contribute to LineageOS 15.1 for gohan, after you have finished backing up,
I suggest to work on the tree from aquaris-dev, and make a pull request to them if necessary.

Do you have a last_kmsg?
@AndDiSa
Sorry, can you tell me how i can get it?
I am back at my last Build, but i can flash the not working build again.
Gesendet von meinem CMR-W09 mit Tapatalk
@matador-2 easiest way is to force boot into recovery by pressing the vol- button and then from a shell to do a
cat /proc/last_kmsg
Probably it works also from a 'normally' booted system but important is that you didn't boot another kernel in between. In that way it would overwrite it.
Hopefully I can prepare my device within the next days so I can do some tests by myself. Thanks for testing the kernel!
Hi urobbot,
I'd like to test your masterpiece on my X5+. I have managed to install LOS 14.1 yesterday, so I should be able to install your port, too.
If you have an image that does boot and runs at least phone and wifi functions, I'd like to test.
@AndDiSa,
Sorry i couldn't get last_kmsg.

Did you try to get it with TWRP?
Last time I tried to recover a last_kmsg using official TWRP for gohan I wasn't able to do it too.
I investigated a bit about it and I think that the kernel that comes with official TWRP
has support for last_kmsg disabled.
Unfortunately official TWRP is build with a prebuilt kernel, which makes difficult enabling a kernel option.
https://github.com/TeamWin/android_device_bq_gohan
Also I learned that the stock recovery allows to read the last_kmsg to the screen, but has adb disabled,
so to my knowledge there is no way of exporting last_kmsg from that recovery.
I think our best option is to modify the TWRP tree to compile a kernel instead of using a prebuilt one
and then enable last_kmsg or pstore which I think is more appropriate to kernels > 3.4

Sure, just drop me a line, or make an announcement here in this thread, I will watch it.
Thank you for all the work! I am currently with the official Lineage 14.1 release for gohan - but got a bug with screen (rotation stopped working - tried some fixes but no luck so far) - also some 2 or 3 minor bugs. Looking forward to test Lineage 15 or 16 soon to check behaviour
I also saw before in your earlier post that you've had GPS not working on 16, which made me think twice before testing this ROM... Do you have now a list of major bugs on your latest release?
Cheers!

Yes, thanks Mate! Which Firmware was it exactly? Hope i can work with it...
I'm also working on AOSXP actually. https://sites.google.com/view/miustone/AOSXP an new, Xperia exclusive Android OS based on pure AOSP and Sony Open Device Trees.
For Orange Fox we will have to flash a Kernel after using it since it will replace our Devices Kernels (fastboot boot doesn't works). But it's nice for flashing ROMs, GApps, Kernels, Magisk, Wiping/Formatting and so on. That will allow People to share and flash own Projects... Hope that brings in some live here since it will be based on Android 11 which should be good enough for the future of this Devices...

Currently there is no GSI working on this model AFAIK. Wait for device specific ports instead.

I am using Project elixir for almost 2 weeks now. So far so good.
I suggest you dont flash it but instead usi it via DSU. Autobrightness is not working, fingerprint too. There are gcam ports wich are also compatible with our device. Battery life is better than miui. Even adding a card to google wallet works fine, until a reboot.

You shouldve just used google to understand better. But basically its a subsystem method wich was implemented to allow a/b partition devices to be able to run gsis' for testing purposes, without the need of flashing and deleting the original os. Think of it as dualboot for android. The only thing is that if you're using it via dev settings, you dont have the choice of selecting what to boot, but your device will directly download google's official gsi (wich is not very functional and its ugly).
Thats why you just need to download the DSU Sideloader app from PlayStore. The app will do everything with a gsi of your choice if you follow the instructions.
The only thing wich is mandatory is that the BL of your device must be unlocked in order to use dsu.
There are videos on YT showing this. If you want to try the gsi I mentioned, download it from their website.

No problem, I dont mind explaining, but there are pretty detailed articles, wich may enlighten you better than I can do it. Anyways, if/when you try it you'll really understand how much MIUI is ruining the experience of that pretty device. I was thinking about selling it 3 days after i got it, only because of that deprecated UI with stupid restrictions. I'm really glad i searched and tried stuff. Good luck!

Hi, sorry if I bother you, I've just tried with project elixir GSI using DSU sideloader, but I don't know why when I restart by clicking on notification it doesn't even boot on my GSI... I've installed the sideloader as root installation... I don't know why it's not working...
