Hey guys I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 sgh-i337m running 5.0.1. The problem I'm having is that the front camera is not working properly. When I reboot the phone, the front camera works perfectly fine and will take pictures no problem. If you try to go back and take pictures a second time there is only a black screen. If I try a few times I get the camera failed message. The rear camera always works fine. Other camera apps such as Snapchat, work the same way. The front camera will work right after a reboot but any other time, will just be black. The rear camera always works.
This is obviously not a hardware problem as the camera works just fine after a reboot. I have cleared the data and cache in the camera app, but the problem still remains.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello! I recently flashed CM 10.2.1 onto my Galaxy S3 (verizon), and overall I'm completely satisfied with the results. However, I'm no longer able to use the front-facing camera on any third-party apps (facebook, instagram, etc). When I try taking a picture with the front camera, it causes the phone to reboot itself. I've noticed that if I'm using the stock camera from CM 10.2, the front cam works perfectly fine. Yet, when I try using Instagram, Skype, or Camera Zoom FX, the phone is always forced to reboot once I try taking a picture. I was wondering if anyone has ever found a fix for this? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help shed some light on my issue!
Rear camera disappeared last night. Started with the camera force closing, and after a reboot only the front camera works, rear doesn't even show in menus. Using Fluent ROM, was on 7.2 and then wiped/flashed 7.5 and still the same issue. At work atm and can't try much, but has anyone had a similar issue and some advice, or am I screwed? Flashlight apps still turn on the LEDs for what its worth.
So a few weeks after I got the phone I started getting the camera failed message. I've tried every option I've had, clearing the cache, force stopping, removing the sd card, turning off smart stay, even hard resetting the phone and using the complete data cache wipe. Finally I took the phone to samsung and they did their software update/data fix thing and it worked. For about 10 minutes my camera was just fine. Then the error came again, but not as often. I would get the error once then right after the camera would work. So for most of the day everything was just fine. However, then towards the end of the day, it's gone back to how it was before with all error with almost no successful camera app use. I had shown it to samsung again and they were just stumped. They said to try a complete wipe, but I've already done that with no success.
I bring this up because I can't find any recent threads on this issue. Also from what I've seen it's a software issue so do I just wait for a fix for RMA the phone. Everything else about it works fine. Does anyone else have this issue?

Hi, I have a problem with my front camera in the Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F). It doesn't work and every time that I enter in the front camera appears the message "Warning: Camera failed"
The Rear camera works perfectly but since I've bought the S7 I never couldn't use the front camera
Here is what I have tried:
- Force Stop, Clear Data, Clear Cache, and Clear Defaults
- Clear Cache Partition in Recovery
- Factory Reset through Settings
- Factory Reset through Recovery
- Installed 3rd party camera app
- Installed another OEM ROM through Odin
- Repite everything
And the camera never work.
But.... by entering *#0*# into the dialer and picking Front cam the camera works perfectly and I can take a pictures. but through the app it doesn't work
Another thing that I can do it is, install the Dual-camera MODE and I can use the both two cameras at the same time although the front camera locks very blurry but it is another problem
I need to know if it is a hardware problem or a softwared problem. I don't know if I replace the front camera It will work.

Try to put *#0*# in the dialer and test the camera. tell me if it works.

I have huawei P9 plus VIE-L29 with microsd card attached, i was video recording a concert and trying camera features randomly when my storage became full and i changed the saving directory to the sd card and it was ok. After that i noticed sometimes when i switch between the front and rear camera the camera app freezes or crashes. And sometimes it works fine. The problem developed till the rear camera is not working at all but the front camera and flashlight are working fine. Then sometimes after restarting the phone the front camera and back flashlight started not to work. Randomly also sometimes they both work and sometimes they dont. Tried to put new software and permnantly unlocked my phone for this and it didnt work. Yesterday tried to change the camera piece front and rear and the same issue ! ... Its like not a software or a hardware problem ! What kind of problem is this please ? ... Sorry for being so talkative just tried to mention everything happened
I have had no issues at all for almost an year with this phone. I was running oreo ever since I bought this phone. Suddenly, a day or two before upgrading it to pie 9.0, I found out in my Snapchat app that there was no back camera sign. First I thought, some weird snap update, but then I found out in system Camera app, it was even not showing the back camera. Whenever I would click on the rear camera sign from the top in Camera app, it would keep on swapping to the frontal secondary camera and then back to the primary frontal camera but no back camera was working. Also I found out that my Flashlight icon is hardened or greyed out, like it's been disabled forcefully. I can make it work using some other app, but it is frustrating why this is happening.
Now I am on android 9, rooted, and this problem keeps on coming and going. At times the back camera won't even work or open with the error "Camera not working" etc. Sometimes, the back camera would work but with only 3 weirded resolutions, like 12MP, 16MP, and some other. and the video mode will be extremely large or zoomed in at 16MP. Suddenly, the camera will start working normally again with all the perfect default resolutions. I tried everything from SAFE MODE to CLEARING THE CAM APP, RESETTING THE APP, but nothing works. All it seems like that camera has suddenly came to life and has a self-consciousness and a mood which it is controlling itself. Sometimes it wants to work and at times, it simply just gets disabled. Any idea what could be the problem? I am rooted using MAGISK.
Simular camera problems with Lenovo tab v7
I have a Lenovo tab v7 with almost the same problems, the rear camera wont work but occasionally the front camera works and the flash LED is dead.
Running Android 9 Pie as well, but not rooted yet.
Any ideas about what we can do about it, is the camera hardware due to be replaced?

It suddenly started happening almost a month ago, I was on oreo 8 and then upgraded to pie 9 but the problem persisted. It kept working for few days and then started to make problems again. I tried to read many forums for android users with the same problem but still haven't found a single complete fix for this problem other than that the rear camera needs to be refixed. But I am finding it hard to believe that even if camera was getting bad, there is no point of FlashLight getting greyed out/disable from the notification bar. It seems more like some kind of a process is not releasing the rear camera and flashlight module/process.
