can you flash the same stuff on a mate 9 pro as you can flash on a mate 9? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

I think I already know the answer, since the screens are different, but, can you flash the same roms/mods/TWRP on a mate 9 pro as you can on a mate 9?
Thanks so much!

I would say that depends on what you are flashing...
Official ROMs - No way, they are completely different models and have different OTA/Full installs. Think of it like the S7 vs S7 Edge.
Custom ROMs - Again, I highly doubt this, as a custom rom is based off the base ROM for that model phone... I don't see this working at all between 9 and 9 Pro.
Mods - Unsure about this, they might have some mods which would work - maybe due to both running EMUI 5.0 so maybe stuff like the Notification pull-down menu could be modded and it work on both phones...
TWRP - Would think this is phone model specific? You need to install TWRP for your specific device?
Personally, I would not try a Mod that's made for a Mate 9 on a Mate 9 Pro, and vice versa, unless the developer said it has been tested and working on both models... and would definitely not try any Custom ROMs like this, would probably either Error out when flashing it, or end up bricking the phone!

When I had a S6 Edge, after awhile, some of the roms and kernels became "interchangeable", and you could flash some things that were originally for the "other" phone initially, so I was wondering if something similar to that has happened with these two phone "brothers"
There appears to be no separate forum for the mate 9 Pro, so not sure where else to ask about things like this.

L29C567B190 Roms?

Will there be future development on the mate 9 as far as custom Roms?or is it safe to say this phone is going remain stock. I respect the devs that are currently building for this device, I just don't see alot for my brand of mate9 and don't won't to rebrand. Ive read through the forums but it's still unclear to me if the Roms out now will work for on L29C567B190?
Have to rebrand at some point? Whats stopping you?
Idk I guess Ive been so used to my 6p and 1+3t, I got this mate 9 thinking it would be as sweet as 6p but like a duma** I didn't even look into it first, well just details like ram and chipset, I didnt even think of EMUI or decryption support, which I'm bootloader unlocked and rooted but want a asop stock like rom, not EMUI. Lol
EMUI on the Mate 9 is pretty close to stock AOSP

Most stable, up to date and future proof ROM?

Which one is it? Most of the ROMs which have been posted here haven't got an Update for ages now, the only one which seems up to date is the Oreo one, however I am afraid that this ROM will be dead too soon (hopefully not) :/ I just hope that this ROM will be our savior and get us out of this misery aka EMUI.
I'm in the same situation. Most of the roms have some bugs and never get updated and others are just not stable enough to be used daily. I hope there will be at least one rom that is stable and that gets updated from time to time. Especially since Honor 8 won't get Android Oreo anymore.

crDroid is under testing for latest B401 blobs and the GPS reboot fix. I'll update it as soon as possible.

Never heard of crDroid before, can you tell what it is like? Is it a rom based on the B401 firmware? Whats the difference between the other ones? And in what kind is this firmware/rom better than teh other ones?

I'm new to the Honor 8 (and coming from the Nexus 6: ease of modding/availability of custom firmware etc., this totally sucks). But I'll tell you that generally the only "better" custom ROM is a more stable ROM: otherwise, it depends on user preference. Do you want a lot of customization options, or are you preferring a pared-down, bare-bones experience? That's what makes the difference.
The trouble with the H8 appears to be that 1) EMUI for the H8 just doesn't play very nicely with custom ROMs (and possibly even just rooting?); and 2) because of that, not many people who are interested in developing ROMs are taking on the task.
So I'd just get used to EMUI or take whatever ROM is most stable according to most--I have no idea personally what that is, but your options are going to probably be pretty limited (especially now that it looks like Huawei is shafting H8 owners by not releasing Oreo). I doubt you've got any room to be picky here: just shoot for stability.
As for crDroid specifically, it is one of many lines of ROMs (like Resurrection Remix) and is released in different variants for different phones. This one is based on Cyagenmod (and my guess is the Honor 8 one isn't official, but rather an unofficial variant, "based on" crDroid)--but you could've found that out by using Google (see here for starters).
The Honor 8 appears to be an especially difficult device to successfully mod, so if you're a beginner, I'd really think twice before taking on the task unless you can get some help. I'm fairly well-versed with modding, but I'm either going to return this phone or limit my tinkering to rooting.

Is the phone treble enabled?

Hello Everyone!
I'm currently trying to decide whether to get the Honor Note 10, or the Xiaomi Mi Max 3. While the former clearly shows strength in terms of processing power, design etc., the later one has a major advantage in software due to it having treble support.
Hence, if I may ask to those of you who already have the phone, is the device treble enabled? I currently have my OnePlus 5 running Android Pie because of treble, and I would like to have my secondary phone be as flexible as well! I am highly aware that the bootloader unlock requires a paid service, but a few dollars for having barebones AOSP roms would be something I look forward to.
Thank you in advance to those who'll answer!

Yeah! So that it may be possible to flash GSI roms
Hi,
As Huawei doesn't allow to unlock the bootloader, you won't be able to install any GSI to it...
Some people report to have managed to unlock it with a paid option and to install TWRP.
But I am almost certain that even if they did and assuming a GSI will install and boot, you'll end up with a crippled device with features missing or not working...
I'd like to see that also but I think for now I'll stick to stock to no get stuck ,?

Well, maybe we could find workarounds for it... But I do understand your point with having incompatible roms.. I have bricked a device before because of it. But I hope someone knowledgable could look into this, especially those who work on the Honor 10 and Honor View 10 . Anyways, I guess I'll just try by myself, got my unit just today :fingers-crossed:
Is Note 10 a A only device?

Are custom ROMs needed anymore?

Hi!
I'm an owner of an OnePlus 7. I upgraded to Android 10 a while ago and the new OxygenOS looks and feels amazing.
But I also wonder if a custom ROM is still needed or preferred over OxygenOS?

Yeah... I'm still for having custom roms... OnePlus right now offers bimonthly updates, so people who want to run the very latest version of Android have to use custom roms.. also OnePlus may not have some features which users who are coming from a custom rom may miss..

Question Custom ROMs for Note 11 Pro+ 5G (Dimensity 920) with Root ?

Hey there,
I have been searching for a while for Custom ROMS of my Note 11 Pro+ 5G....
I really like the HW that Xiaomi is producing, but their software and naming schemes couldnt be worse...
I am still unsure if my Model is either "veux" or "peux". And even then there is some ROMS that say they work for both BUT NOT the Pro+ with Dimensity 920....
Also the last phone I rooted was a Oneplus 6, and I am unsure what exactly changed and what the ideal process is for gaining root on each ROM...
So my question is, has anyone already got Custom ROM with root working on this exact phone?
And could you maybe drop a line to the thread if its on xda?
I'd really preffer "crDoid" or "PixelExperience" like ROM's.
Thanks in advance, and cheers
No or few development for Xiaomi with Mediatek processors.
Note 11 Pro+ 5G code name PISSARRO
Oh I see, that explains it. tyvm for the info!
Then I'll be looking out (and maybe if successfull report back for others ^^)
