Does anyone know how to mod stock camera to change camera zoom. I have 6x zoom but would like to have 10x like the other models?
Why do you need digital zoom? It's the same as if you would zoom into the picture afterwards in the album app

Good question!
The only reason I can think of is if you want to frame a picture to post immediately on social media.
Otherwise it's far better to save the whole picture. Then you can cut and zoom to get exactly what you want, either with a phone app or later with Photoshop or similar.

anyone know how i can do this with jf1.42 rc33 rooted g1
No video recording yet (except through third party application - namely "Video Recorder" - imagine the creativity), and since the camera lacks a zoom, you will never be able to zoom it. Just crop your pictures.
you should be able to digitally zoom your camera just not optical

digital zoom = cropping
no real need to implement a zoom feature that pixel-ates the photo even more than it already is
can u tell me why video recorder force closes when i hit record

because it is a not so good program. when i tried it my camera shutter got all screwy. had to reset the phone
easy answer: wait for cupcake or a POST RC33/9(UK) cooked build
i think this cupcake thing is becoming a hoax

I agree. I don't know why so many ppl are wanting camera zoom, cause it will never be optical zoom. Anyone that know anything about cameras knows the only way to go is optical zoom. And like you said, if you want digital zoom, just crop your photo.

Optical zoom is better, but a good software zoom which tries to interlace the picture would work too?

You're better off "zooming" using a real photo editor, just crop and enlarge and the quality will be much better than what the phone could ever manage. The only thing digital zoom would possibly be good for is for those who don't want the hassle of cropping/enlarging the pics themselves using an external program on the PC.
at least for video recording digital zoom should work. coz u dont use the full resolution of the chip anyways and the frame is always rendered down to a lower resolution.

That's very true.
Like the title insists, what is the best camera application? ie, good focus, decent zoom, silent, many effects...
Snap Photo Pro, but not yet available for the N1.
I really like Camera Zoom FX. Recently updated for N1. Lots of effects, shutter sound can be disabled, easy to use, and add-on packages are all free.
Camera Zoom FX is the king right now for the Nexus One, since it is the only big name camera app out for the Nexus One right now. A memember in another thread said Snap Photo Pro wouldn't be coming to the Nexus One according to an email response he got back from the dev. of Snap Photo Pro. Something about being rather pissed google isn't sticking to their word on Android OS's being universal, including hardware to an extent(ie, you make a camera app for 2.0 it will work on any 2.0 phone, this it seems is not true).
+1 for Camera ZOOM Fx - had this for ever and it keeps getting better!
Does Camera zoom FX allow you to focus first, then snap? It kind of annoys me the way the standard camera waits for focus before snapping.

If you hold the camera button on the screen of the built-in camera app, it will focus first and then take the shot after you let go.
it's great
Anyone know of a decent zoom app that works with the nexus?
Camera Zoom FX works for zoom (paid)
FX Camera (search "ymst" in the market) is a great free camera but no zoom.
Zoom on the device is fake anyways (digital), so you can get the same results with better image quality if you use no zoom and post-crop.

It's true about the zooming. If you just use Picasa or Photoshop "zooming" will turn out better.
I have Camera Zoom FX and use it as my default. It's a great little app. Beyond "zooming" there are millions of useful options that the stock app lacks. There are also skins if that's your cup of tea. The only gripe is that there is no video within the app, but then again you buy it for its camera options..
Hi there youknow that there isnt zoom in gingerbread nexus s and i want to know will there be in ice cream sandwich?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I don't think there will be.
There should be. Currently sent my Nexus s for repair so cant check but i watched a video demo in youtube and i think i saw there is zoom.
No, camera zoom will not be present in ICS but if you really want it Get Camera Zoom FX from market, it has digital zoom.

application you mentioned i have tried
i don't know how to say , it's just like you took a picture and then zoom in , it doesn't real zoom in like professional camera , it just zooms in like you looking at picture in the computer by use scroll wheel.
the picure which i took is fuzzy , exactly like you zoom in photo in computer at high rate !
sorry for my poor english , i don't know if i have made myself clear

That's the only kind of zoom you're going to get on a mobile phone in the near future. It's called digital zoom, and that's what pretty much all mobile phones (including Galaxy Nexus) have.
I think the feature will be available to only capable devices as far as i know our Nexus doesn't support zooming although it might be possible that in ICS they implemented digital zoom which is of less quality
There's no point in a digital zoom, you're simply cropping a section of a picture.
Without a lens that can zoom, there's no point in zooming.
I thought it was confirmed that the base firmware reports to the rest of the system that camera doesn't support any type of zooming, including digital on the Nexus S.
The Galaxy Nexus does though. Sometimes digital zoom is better than no zoom when you want to quickly focus on a particular subject and that you don't want to fiddle with desktop editing software.

well-said
I noticed, while comparing to my note 3 and a friends sony z ultra, that when I take a photo and go to see it in the gallery, the picture is not very clear..i would say a little blurry, while the other two phones shows the picture crystal clear(i tried in auto mode, outdoors and at sunlight). However, when I zoom in , it gets clear. Is it a software bug?? Has anyone noticed that??
Which ROM are you on?
And you have best quality pic in settings?

Are you using QuickPic? There's an option in settings that intentionally blurs the picture to save power.
I am on 33 stock rom. I am using stock camera app. And i have 100℅ picture quality. Havent you noticed it??
He means the gallery in the camera app and not the standalone gallery app. This issue doesn't happen on the gallery app. When you are looking at a picture fully zoomed out, it looks decent. But if you zoom in any amount with your fingers, the picture gets much sharper once you stop.
The zoomed out view is too big for your picture viewer to get a good preview.
