Hey everybody,
some of you might have known this app, but that hasn't been updated in a while. I therefore decided to fork the "new" beta a few months back, and I got that working again and extended it a bit.
What is it?
Basically, it's an app that takes the cached and downloaded songs of Google Play Music, adds ID3 tags to them from the database of GPM, searches for covers online, and saves all that together in an MP3 wherever you want.
Bug reports and Feature Requests:
If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, or in the matrix discussion room. If you find any bugs, or have feature requests, please check the issue tracker on github, if you can't find it, report it there, post in this thread, or write a message in the discussion room linked above.
Download:
You can download the app either on F-Droid, or XDA-Labs. Please note though, that the release to F-Droid is a bit faster, since it is automatic, and I only add a release on XDA-Labs, after it has been successfully published to F-Droid.

Hey jcgruenhage! Many thanks for the app, that helps you to get all your cached music from Google Play Music All Access. And also, many thanks for the tipp, that it is possible to get the unprotected mp3 directly on PC from GMPAA with help of Remix OS Player.
You are great!
Thanks for this app. I am wondering, does this require root?

Yes, as it says in the description
Thank you so much for your rework of the initial app !
This is now working again (Galaxy S6 under LL) and actually perfect !
I love the concept of this app, however I'm having issues. No matter where I set the export location (internal or external) or where Google has the music saved (again, internal or external), the app gets through a few hundred songs then seems to freeze on one randomly. The app doesn't crash or give me an error, it just seems to stop working. This is regardless of whether the device is awake, asleep, running other apps, running nothing, etc. It seems to move progressively slower in exporting each song until it just decides to stop.

Edit: saw your request for issues to be posted on Git. Sorry.

Well, I guess if I post this here, I should be able to check every now and then, just changed the description above, post issues wherever you want, I'll collect them on github ^^
On to your issue however: There have been a few people reporting this on the original app, and so far, I have not found the cause. However, using the automatic export, I have seen a few hundred songs getting exported without any delay, so maybe unifying the export calls of these two operations might help.
Doesn't work with MagiskSU.
Not asking for root magisksu
Working perfectly on my rooted Nexus 9!
Can you please add download support for this app?

Thank you.
I sometimes buy albums from Google to use on me iPod (iTunes is ehh) and having to manually add meta-data to each song is tedious. This app solves that perfectly.
Thank you very much for this, works well on phh's superuser

I have a question.. whats the difference between this app and Music Mate?
Music Mate doesn't require root and I've been using it for years to download music added to my library from All Access and then move it to my computer, DRM free.

This app reads the metadata and songs out of the private memory of Play Music, which is only accessible with root.

Music Mate is different in a two key points:
Closed Source and "needs" a lot of permissions, in addition to costing money.
Interacts with the Google Servers instead of the local storage.
The first one is a big problem for privacy reasons, you're giving yet another company data about you, that they can use for whatever they want. The second is even worse, since that means that Google can find out about you ripping music/violating their terms of service, without even looking on your phone. This is true for any app using unofficial Play Music APIs.
If you are going to use something like that, I'd recommend GMusicProxyGui. That is free, open source, and probably even uses the same backend (gmusicproxy) for downloading the songs.

No, I can't. I don't know how the app stores it's data, and I don't have the time to investigate on that.

Ah true true. I didn't even think about that. I used to use a program for Windows (Song Spout) that did basically the same thing and cost $10 a year (originally). It probably used the same method as Music Mate.
I've been using Music Mate because I've been running my phone unrooted for a while due to that damned Safety Net. Thankfully, my tablet is in the "couldn't care less about Safety Net" group so this will work on it.
Thanks for updating this app. :good:

Right, I'm a PowerAMP pro user, but with a pretty old phone. The latest app is working but it's slow and sometimes lags. The poweramp site also offers the old 1.4 version which works right for me. Now, all is fine and dandy but I;m a bit annoyed by the app always showing up there to be updated. So I searched for a method to detach the app from the market and learnt that the bug has been solved long ago and apps can't be detached. So I tried changing the app's signature, of course with no luck, my android dev skills being close to absolute zero.
So I ask you, is there any way to do this? I am not pirating the app, so don't worry
I'm also trying to convince the developer to make an unsigned version of the app specifically for old timers like me, but with no success until now..
Just use LBE Privacy guard and freeze internet connection permission for this particular app..
So it will not connect to net and not telling you that new version is available..
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.

If it doesnt need to connect to the internet for anything else you could use droidwall to block it from accessing the playstore
If your rooted you could use blackmart to download the app and never have to update it
Or see the updates notifications saying there's an update

On a related note, is there a way to remove apps from the "My Apps"list? It is really annoying to have to scroll through a list of apps containing tons of apps that you may have tried for a while and then uninstalled when you need to reinstall something. And why is the "My Apps" list in random order and not alphabetical?

As far as I know (and after some quick Googling), there is no way to remove any apps from the giant "My Apps" list. However, I use the Appbrain android market replacement, and it lets you customize your lists and sort them better. You can remove devices from view though.

i don't know if it is right to open a new thread so i did it to have a general discussion about youtube and its new upcoming feature
if any mod thinks that this thread should be closed then there is no problem by me
here is an article of what i am talking about
http://youtubecreator.blogspot.sg/2013/09/heads-up-about-upcoming-youtube-mobile.html?m=1
Is this source official? After reading it, I can only think of it as forcing you to download content. YouTube is probably safe, but pushing content to your device without you asking that seems quite absurd. I believe there will be a mechanism to allow this (only to subscribed channels or even a dedicated switch for that).
Seems like a nice feature, but with today's network speeds it's not that much of a problem.
BTW, before adding features, they should fix the UI on both mobile and PC, moving the quality setting to a submenu is a crime (especially when it's on 360p by default when you can play 1080p without any problem).
actually i doubt if that feature will be acting without user's permission but we will see it soon enough
Doubt they will do this. Google is try to get rid of YouTube downloading apps and plug-ins, so why would they purposely force you to download videos?

When you watch a video you download it to your computer. After watching it, it is deleted. Everything you see on the web is downloaded to your computer (even this comment). What they might do is to make the videos available for you by pre-caching it, so you can watch them offline. And for the anti-download policy - I believe google will encrypt it somehow. There is more than one way to do this.
It sounds like a list you add videos to which will download all to your phone. Then the downloaded videos will be available while offline. Sounds like a Watch Later feature to me

Something like that, with te difference that you add channels to your list instead of videos, and when new videos are available, they get downloaded to your phone automatically for you to watch them, and afterwards (my guess is a couple of hours or the first watch) they are deleted.
I guess it's more like getting the newspaper to your doorstep each morning.

I didn't really get what the feature does exactly. Does it allow to push content to my phone without my permission?
Or can I manually choose which videos to download. That would be a really awesome feature and eliminate the need for apps like PVSTAR.

It appears Google has once again started limiting the number of devices All Access users can deauthorize on an annual basis. This is definitely a problem for us Flashaholics. I searched to see if there was an announcement. I see nothing listed, but I was personally denied removing any devices. Google states I've deauthorized too many devices. I'd hate to go searching for a new music service, but it looks like I have no choice. Your thoughts?
have you
tried using titanium backup pro to revert android ID?
I thought this had been announced a while ago and the limit was 4 times a year or something like that? I remember reading about this before though. Although my understand was that was the limit of deactivating ALL devices and not the individual devices which I thought that was still unlimited. Might have to look around again for that so I can make sure
Edit: I had misread. Here's an article I found from android central http://m.androidcentral.com/google-play-music-now-limits-you-4-mobile-device-deauthorizations-year
I remember the announcement back in August. Shortly after, it was reported Google decided not to implement this policy. Now it appears they decided to enforce their earlier decision.

I don't have local music stored on my phone.. the downloaded music I have is a few playlists off of spotify for when I'm on a plane and since you can't have your cellphone radios on and even if you could there's no signal..
So I don't know, but I doubt it works as a music player for your local music files..
there's really no need to (unless you have limited data or listening to music on a plane)

I almost jumped to Spotify, until I read that only one mobile device can be connected at the same time. If one device is connected, and another starts using Spotify, the first device will pause. I can see my 2 teenage daughters getting frustrated trying to figure out why the service keeps pausing. Lol.
Google allows all trusted devices to play at the same time. I'm set for now. Google reset the account for me. This gives me time to research some options.
i had a very screwy incident when i tried to deactivate two devices - i ended up getting two notices that i cancelled my service. i did get to reactivate at the 7.99 price though and got it confirmed that deactivation are not per calendar year, but each deactivation is freed up after 12 months.
i've got my m8 listed twice - once for the GPE rom and the other for the sense ROM. anyone know if there are any problems restoring an ID across different OS versions?
Spotify will sync across all devices on the same account. So it's not useful for a family on one account. It's great for an individual person though. I've had music playing on my PC, opened the app on my phone and changed the song from a different room entirely. Same thing works with my tablet. I was streaming a playlist during a BBQ had a friend complain he didn't like the song but didn't want to get out of the chair to change it. I grabbed my phone and handled it.... like a boss.
But yeah, family plan is not possible with Spotify.
@mjs2011 You can use your local music as well. The only stipulation to that is that you have to have a paid account. You can all your own music plus Spotify music to a playlist on the PC, open the app on your phone and set it to be available offline and Spotify will download all the music from them and your own PC to your phone.
Could just be me, but as long as I removed the devices from inside the mobile app it lets me remove as many as I want. If I try through chrome on my desktop or laptop it tells me I have run out of deactivations. Really strange, but I'll take it.

one of my deactivations was via the web for a phantom tablet (listed twice for rom flashing), the other was via the device that i decided i won't use play music for any more. i got two notifications of cancellation of service and verified on phone that i only had 1 cancellation left until oct this year. maybe there was just a bug on that day.
my m8 is listed twice and my gn10.1 twice.
I am cannot listen to my music anymore... Turns out I have already reached the limit for 4 devices every year. Feels like Google is screwing me. Does anybody have any suggestions? it's sad that google passed the blame on to the music providers for having to implement this, but it's their fault for implementing it so ****ty. even amazon's deactivation is better than this crap.

Check out this thread. I started using this app recently. This app will backup & restore your device ID. I've flashed many roms since I came across this app. It works as advertised, and doesn't add to my device count in GPMAA.
Here's what I do. Make sure you backup your current rom first. It's just good practice.
1. Download and install app.
2. Run app and backup your device ID.
3. Copy the folder to your SD card. This is so you'll have a copy should you format your internal storage.
4. After flashing your rom and downloading all your apps. Copy the folder to your internal storage. Do not open GPMAA.
5. Run app and restore your previous ID.
6. Profit.
Like I said, I flashed several rom and haven't had any devices added to my list. Worst case you can call Google and nicely ask them to reset your device list.

Hello all,
I have a rooted OnePlus 8 Pro running Magisk 21.0 (21000), and using Magisk Manager 8.0.2 (307)(11). My OS build is Oxygen OS 10.5.13.IN11AA(enhanced by xXx_NoLimits_ 12.3). I have no idea if any of that info even matters for my question, but I figured it couldn't hurt to share.
Now, I am mostly pleased with my OP8P as daily driver for about a month. However, there is one small thing that I can't seem to get working right. I would like to be able to use my Google Assistant to play my music library via the typical voice commands and such. My music streaming service of choice is an app by the name of AWA, and is confirmed on their website to be compatible with Google Assistant. However I can't for the life of me get it to show up in Google Assistant's music services list. It just shows the standard options(YT Music, Pandora, Deezer, and Spotify). It also lists what I assume to be a general information list option, as tapping it does nothing, entitled "Other music services" [See Pic]. It's almost as if Google Assistant doesn't recognize that AWA is even present on my phone.
Am I doing something wrong or missing some critical info?
Thanks for any help offered!

It's almost as if Google Assistant doesn't recognize that AWA is even present on my phone.
Am I doing something wrong or missing some critical info?
Thanks for any help offered!

Hi,
I think the problem is your region. For example, I can't have Pandora to show up as it's not available in France. (Se the pic attached). You may use AWA (which seems to be Japanese) in your region but it doesn't mean that the app was meant to work in your region. Try with a VPN and see if that does it.

Thank you for responding,
I was afraid of someone suggesting that. I was really hoping it wasn't because it would require me to go VPN shopping, which I absolutely dread lol. It takes me a heck of a lot of time to reach a purchase decision on that type of stuff as I tend to practice extreme discretion when it comes to VPN service providers. Anywho, I'll try it out if and when I get a VPN subscription.

Try with a free one first, to check if it solves the problem. And if you want to choose a vpn take your time to read each of their privacy policy.
Good luck

I appreciate the sentiment, but free VPN are almost always a bad idea imo. Unless of course you meant try a VPN with a free trial, that is probably the route I will go.
Thanks again.

Yeah, so I just tried on the free trial of NordVPN and no results...it just showed YT Music and Spotify this time. Wonder why. Anyway I'm fresh out of ideas.

Yeah in my opinion, even paid VPNs like NordVPN or stuff like that aren't a good idea. Unless you want to unlock region specific content, I won't advice you to do that. Most of the time people use them for privacy, but honestly my ISP is more trustworthy that one random enterprise. I use a VPN for when I'm connected to a public network, for example in a library, and my VPN is a raspberry pi that I configured myself with wireguard. I can't spoof location, nor hide internet traffic to my ISP with that, but for security on a public network it's perfect.
Hope you'll eventually find a solution.
Have a good day
