Flash Stock Recovery without Stock Firmware? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hi,
hopefully this doens't belong in the noob-thread, wasn't really sure where to put it, to be honest
So what I'd like to do is flash the Stock-Recovery without flashing the Stock Firmware. I already exctracted the recovery.img from a Stock-Firmware and turned it into a *.tar - file.
What I would do next ist put it in Odin (as AP) and flash it.
I'm just not sure if this is safe. The phone is running a custom kernel and a custom ROM.
In case you're curious: I sold the phone to a friend who likes the ROM (Super-Stock) etc. the way it is, but doesn't want any other custom-stuff (recoveries, root, whatever) on the phone, since it's still knox free.
I already told him as long as knox is 0x0 it's safe, but he insists on getting a as-stock-as-possible phone.
Thanks!

Need some guidance on flashing NE5, so I can Towelroot.

Alright, I'm sorry for this, but I've spent a good many hours reading and trying to figure this out, but I haven't come across anything that spells it out in a way I'm comfortable with. I'm trying to root and maintain my knox warranty, so I can tweak and use Xposed, and it seems the only way for me to do that is flash an older kernel, use towelroot, then flash back to the newer kernel.
Here's where I think I'm at: Stock Sprint S5 on 4.4.4. That means I have the NK4 kernel, and to use Towelroot, I have to flash the NE5 kernel, correct? Then once I get root, I can flash back to NK4, ending up with a rooted stock phone, with warranty still valid?
This is where I'm not sure how to proceed. I've downloaded ODIN 3.10, the samsung USB drivers, and the NE5 and NK4 kernel zip files (which both contain a boot.img file and META-INF folder). Once I install the USB drivers and ODIN, I'm not sure how to then use ODIN get the right kernel flashed.
A video, or nudges in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

The files you downloaded are for flashing in custom recovery, which will trip knox. (BTW, knox is overrated. I doubt you'd be denied warranty service because it's tripped).
Anyway, you want to download this file for NE5 and this one for NK4. Unzip them on your PC. Each one has a file that ends in .tar.md5.
Put your phone in download mode and hook it up to your PC. When you run Odin, you should have a blue COM button lit in the upper left side. If not, you don't have the drivers installed. Assuming you do have the blue light, tap the AP button and browse to the NE5 file and select it. Wait a bit as it takes maybe 30+ seconds to load it. Then click Start. Once finished, the phone will reboot.
After rebooting, run Towelroot. (I've never used that as I rooted on day one with CF Autoroot). Once rooted, you can follow the same instructions above to install NK4 again.
Hope this helps
FYI, what trips Knox is installing and running a custom recovery.
What Ramer said.
But honestly, MOAR Rom is pretty dang sweet. I was a huge xPosed fan, but MOAR and MOAR Mod Control make me forget about xPosed!

Flashing Firmware / Bootloader / Modem

Hi,
I´m a neewbie to Samsung. My phone is a S6 SM-G920F, Baseband G920FXXU1AOCW
I came form an HTC and I´ve seen that flashing things are very different. So here are my questions:
1. I think, my bootloader is unlocked but I didin´t know for sure. So how can I check this?
(My HTV showed me this by using fastboot, didn´t know if there is fastboot with Samsung and how to start it - only know the download-mode and how to enter TWRP recovery)
2. Flashing firmware via Odin (i. e. from sammobile.com) means to loose my root again, right?
3. If I loose root, where do I get custom Firmwares and how do I flash them (if this is possible)?
4. If not, is it enough to flash bootloader and modem through Odin?
All answers are appreciated. Thanks in advanced.
Maybe someone can link me to an step to step instruction...
Fastboot is android doesn't matter who makes the phone.
If you flash a rom from sammobile then you will go to whichever stock you pick.
Other ROMs are available here. The phone is new. There aren't many yet. Cyanogen mod isn't available yet.
Root is available by flashing cfautoroot with Odin. You will need to get the specific one.
You can replace the recovery by flashing twrp team win recovery project with Odin.
You can flash boot loader and modem. Make sure you get the right region. The modem frequencies are different in different places.
You may find flashing a whole ROM even stock will fail. This is because the partitions are not the same size for all s6 stock ROMs. Don't ask me why. You can open the tar find which file stopped the flash delete it from the tar and flash again.

Thanks for answering. My questions had an other intention, I think.
My S6 is already rooted and I have a custom recovery (TWRP) :good:
I would like to know if you have to flash a whole firmware or only bootloader/modem? Because I didn´t seen a post here for a full firmware yet.
I am not familiar with the differences between htc whole firmware and samsung bootloader/modem
Actually I am on Firmware G920FXXU1AOCW. But there are newer ones like XXU1AOE3 or XXU1AOE4.
In the days of my htc you couldn´t flash only bootloader or modem, you had to flash a whole firmware (like radio, drivers, bootloader, modem etc.)
Flashing only modem and bootloader will it update i. e. touchscreen drivers? If not, where do I get this ones? You know, because of root I don´t get OTA´s anymore...
The modem just controls how your phone hardware connects to carrier towers etc.
The boot loader is a tiny thing that tells the processor where and how to load the OS.
The software for pretty much everything is in /system.
Many of these releases are the same software, region specific. The dates are fairly unimportant for the same version number. They generally reference the time when they were uploaded by someone. Not that they have updates and fixes.
Just wanted to know can I change my phone logo MetroPCS to say T-mobile with all the T-mobile add on. I have a Samsung Galaxy s6 by MetroPCS

Question about XtreStoLite (G920F)

Please forgive if i'm posting incorrectly, have been a lurker for a while
I have a Samsung s6 G920F variant, locked onto o2 (UK network) I believe the bootloader is locked also.
I was on Lollipop (with pingpong root) and recently upgraded to Marshmallow 6.1, so my root is obviously gone, and it doesn't seem that there's root right now that works.
I really want to try out the XtreStoLite rom, theoretically could i flash this rom via odin, since its TW based, would it load on without root, and with locked bootloader? I don't really care about Xnox tripping, but I definitely don't want to brick the phone... I'm not sure if the XtreStoLite rom would count as 'stock based' therefore being recognized by the phone as an official operating system? If that sounds correct.

Link to root your phone correctly.
And Yes you can flash xtrastolite with a custom recovery and without root .
Agreed. ROM has root already. Since you're already on MM, don't flash BL and modem, just ROM & optionally addon. Note that if you replace the stock kernel, you'll probably lose root.

If you lose it, just flash the zip below again

Flashing back to stock rom/recovery

I am trying to return to stock image for the sm-j700T so I can play pokemon go (I know I know)
I have located the stock ROM and the original recovery from other threads, so my questions are
Do I have to flash the stock recovery to be able to go back 100% SE enforced + knox verified and then ODIN the stock image?
Or can I leave TWRP on there and just flash stock ROM?
My only concern is being able to play Pokemon go at this point, which I was able to by doing the full unroot with supersu up until two days ago. Now, the safetynet is being tripped and I'm assuming its a combination of disabling knox, a possible firmware OTA update, some remnant of root being detected, or because of TWRP. I just want to go back to full stock at this point.
Sorry for rambling, but just to clarify, should I flash stock recovery, then stock image? Or would keeping TWRP and flashing stock ROM be sufficient enough to not trip safety net and play pokemon go?

Trying to get my phone back to stock

Hello,
I rooted my s5 way back when it first came out but I haven't upgraded the firmware at all. From what I remember I had trouble installing a custom recovery so the phone is only rooted. I would like to bring it up to the most current version of android. What's the easiest way to do that? I'm on baseband version G900PVPUIAND2.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I found this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2742994 which had a link to the stock factory image but sammobile doesn't seem to be hosting it anymore. Is there another reliable place that I can get it? Or would just doing a factory reset of my phone make it so I can start taking OTA's again?
The latest stock firmware for G900V is Marshmallow QC1. You can download it here and use ODIN to flash it:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767155677
If you want to root it you can use CF-Autoroot in ODIN. This will trip Knox if not already tripped (but probably doesn't matter on an older phone like this).
https://download.chainfire.eu/408/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-kltespr-kltespr-smg900p.zip
If you want to install TWRP you can use ODIN again:

Good luck.
