Has anyone thought of changing the leds to brighter ones?
Wondering if someone tried that(and failed? ..no seriously I'm just wondering if someone tried to replace these smd leds to better ones)
Led technology evolves quite fast so they should be better leds out there by now, or having the same brighness but better power consumption(less heat)
just use an external LED gadget.

This is small talk about mods and curiosity guys, @chenrp no need to do such thing just wondering
@Mr.Ak far from perfect, if it was Xenon flash brightness that would be true but it's not ..especially outdoor the "flash" is next to useless

Hmm,it's pretty much fine here on outdoor too.I don't recall even any custom kernel having " Notification Led Brightness" feature, though there are many color changing features.
Well, you can use ambient display too or you can set the camera flashlight as a notification light, then it would be bright, lol. It would be similar to S Light feature introduced on Note devices, there's an app on PS which does all that.

Led notification has no purpose of changing heh (who uses flash? hmm why not be able to use it?)
---------------------------
Others leds that NEEDS to be changed are the hardware button leds, these are VERY dim(can't see them unless completely darkness. I could try such changes myself if I has a spare 1+1 that I didn't care if it dies in my hands(anyone care to donate a phone for the greater good? ahhahhaah) ...I'm good with my hands but I'd never try to mod such things in my daily driver, it would be great for the hardware buttons to use "proper" leds there

Hi there,
I found a couple cool apps for our Evo, and wanted to pass them along in case someone else was looking but hadn't found them yet.
LED Light - picolyl - This app turns on our led lights by the camera, and has a widget so you can place it beside your sense widgets for connections, etc.
Mirror for HTC EVO 4G - NeatoFun - This uses the front facing camera and shows the image full screen, so you can check out how awesome you look, or if you've got some boogies hanging out of your nose
Dolphin Browser HD - I used Dolphin Browser on my Hero, but this is a completely different app, it has been totally revamped and has themes and add-ins. It has fantastic multitouch performance also. I'm seriously considering replacing this as my default browser, which I would have never said before.
Google Earth - We can finally use this, Yay! Not so much on the Hero.
Quick Profiles - I've used this since the Hero came out, and it's a great app to manage and create system sound profiles, similar to the ones the old school nokia phones had. I have several set up, from vibrate, silent, loud, nighttime, quiet, normal, etc. It's a great app, I wish something like this was included by default.
there you go, some new ones for me and some favorites too. Enjoy!
Didnt know about that mirror app. Thanks!
what's so much better about dolphin, explicitly? I didn't see anything that made me want to use it when I had my moment at all.

Here's some more info, a video, and a small list of the new improvements.

I like the brightness options, but still think led light is a better app due to the widget. Good stuff though, keep it coming!

I am wondering if one of my LEDs is burned out or broken. When using LED Light app, only the top led lights up. Same when taking pictures. Do both LEDs light up for those of you using the program?

My local Sprint store replaced it out. Nice and easy, and having rooted and having all of my setups in Titanium Backup made it all the easier.
Thanks for all your feedback.

Great find!! I'm enjoying these apps.
i'm confused. for some reason I had assumed that this phone (my Rogers Captivate) had a front facing camera, even though it wasn't enabled at the moment. now I'm reading and it seems that it doesn't. i was also surprised to hear that it doesn't have a notification LED. i mean, WTF?
anyway, what particularly confuses me is that there are three little circles clearly visible behind the glass... just above the Samsung logo and to the left - one of them looks like the lens for a small camera, and the other two look like LEDs.
what are these, if not a camera? are all three just for the proximity sensor?
Ambient light sensor and proximity sensor in no particular order.
thanks!!
in conclusion:
it is stupid that this phone does not have an LED notification.
front facing camera, I really couldn't care less about.

I came from the blackberry world, and really missed the LED indicator at first, but now I actually prefer no LED. It does get annoying to have a blinking light on your phone all the time, so one starts to ignore it anyway thus it becomes useless.
You can use a 3rd party tool like BLN however, if you just need a little light.

BLN will turn the Seach, Back, Home, and Menu key on (and keep them on... or even blink) when you get a notification. So in essence we have one.
Hi there,
I have the S2 on rogers the 727 series. I have a few issues.
1. LED notifications never worked
2. Camera on my phone is always darker (i compared it with the same from on AT&T and its camera was actually better
3. Whenever i get a txt or missed call the phone never vibrates and i've tried different sms apps and all of them dont work even though the setting is on.
I know there are apps to get LED notifications but i dont like that...i would like to see my LEDs that the phone has working. Anyone have similar issues?

ahh i see....well what about everyone's camera. Im pretty disappointed with mine when its dark or just not day light the pictures turn out pretty dark. When i use the flash peoples faces turn white.
Go into settings in your camera and turn up the exposure. Indoor shots seem to darken for some reason with the stock settings. See if that fixes the issue.

Ambient display is designed for AMOLED screens. After the update, we still have LCD
It was not there in the factory preview however it is in the ASOP version of lollipop which I had before this so I am pretty sure it is possible to have it on the nexus 5.
This is the version that Ambient Display is in for the nexus 5

1) Yes of course it is "Possible"
2) It's in AOSP ROMs because it is an L feature, therefore it is in the source code
3) It won't be in the stock image because it is not designed for our screen technology

Ambient display is designed for AMOLED Screens to replace the LED notification. As AMOLED pixels are independently controlled (they can be turned off and on individually), a notification can be shown on screen, using only a minute amount of power - not much more than the LED - Whilst being more informative.
LCD pixels cannot be independently controlled, The backlight is either on or off - using lots of power - ergo, is not a suitable replacement for an LED notification. In otherwords, battery drain fro LCD users

Right...because the WiFi bug has anything to do with this.
If you don't want the ambient display (and associated battery drain) then feel free to toggle it off. My point is we don't even have the option to turn it on, and it's a useful feature to me.
Useful feature to me too. Since I have wireless charging pad all over the place, I don't really worry about battery too much. When I go on weekend trips, I can always toggle ambient display off too.

They're not making this ROM for you. CM is making ROMs for you and me, these factory images are for normal users, and they didn't have this feature in the first place (EVER!) without third-party apps. Battery life > Ambient Display following that logic, as that's how they can please 80% of customers — keep the phone battery on for longer. The screen on the N5 is one of the hungriest parts of it (if not the hungriest), which is why we all like to measure Screen On Time, rather than how long it can sit in standby...
That's the reason we have a notification led and Moto X / Nexus 6 don't. They could enable Ambient Display on Nexus 5 also, but that's kinda pointless and dangerous for the majority of the users.
As a side note, I also think that it looks pretty ugly on an LCD display sitting on a desk: the AMOLED pixels lighting up and pulsing in pitch back actually look really cool, but with LCD display you'd have that screen light-up effect on many viewing angles.
Someone make ambient display mide enabler flashable zip please...

It was NEVER going to make it officially to this phone because it is NOT DESIGNED for our screens. I'm really not sure how many ways I need to say this. Want the feature? Go custom. Otherwise live with it.
Jeez. Lollipop release will be the death of me.

I literally said "flash a custom ROM" to you. Nothing more. What is angry about that?
So, I rooted the device and opened up EX kernel manager. Clicked on Misc in order to change the I/0 to row, and saw LED trigger on the bottom. Thought it was odd, so clicked it. Switched it to battery charging, connected my charger, and bam. Up top, right below the headphone jack above the earpiece. Not sure if it's rgb, but very happy about this. Can't wait to explore further and we get some custom ROMs out for this device.
I'm no dev, just looking forward to what's can be done with this
Yeah, I had seen a similar post on the Moto X (2013) xda! However, as far as I know, no custom rom made good use of it. Counting on you
I'd love to see the option of choosing which notifications light up the LED and which goes to Moto Display, since there isn't an Amoled on this device... Like priority notifications go on Display so you can interact, and things like games notifications on the LED.
But maybe I'm dreaming!
@dictionary : Thanks so much for the good news.
Been a great day for the MXP - rooted + LED notification all in 24 hrs.
Does it get any better than this!
I've had mine just under a week and so far have been really satisfied with my purchase.
I was missing Xposed and getting to grips with the lack of a LED for notifications plus realizing just how many ads I wasn't seeing before so it's a win win day for Motorola fans.

If you have root, you should try to install Light Flow (lite) and see if it can interface the LED on the phone. It was working on my Nexus 4 (with root). That would be a good reason for me to root my moto x play now...
Please report if you do.

Good news! Unlike osprey, where some hardware needed for LED notifications without the charger plugged in is missing, everything needed in hardware for LED notifications is present on lux. I got LED notifications working nicely on the stock ROM with my kernel (that is under development).

My kernel build with LED support is up on the original development section.
I don't think it's a notification led. It's too bright and intense that it could be a little dummy flash for frontal camera. I think that motorola released this device pretty soon and hide many components that were planed but not finished.

It's a notification light. They are used so that you know when your device is about to die on battery, or when it's off and next to dead. Otherwise you'd be hard pressed to know.

In the Moto X 2014 model, there was a green LED that would light up only if the phone was too dead to even light up the display to show the "dead battery" icon.
I'm guessing the same is true of the LED here, but luckily we have a kernel that uses the LED for notifications. Works really well with the Motorola flip cover for this phone!
Does someone has a picture of the LED working? I'm curious about it.
