Extremely High data usage by Android OS - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone burned through almost 12 GB data in about 7 days by "Android OS".
I'm using a Oneplus One running the 14.1-20170313-NIGHTLY-bacon version.
It just uses at random times, if i'm on a cellular data connection, it uses my data bundle.
When I head to Data usage in android it shows up as "Android OS", but after clicking it, the title changes to "Setup Wizard". Which seems weird to me.
In a data management app called My Data Manager , which I installed to discover the specific app that uses up all my data. But in this app the process shows up as OS Services.
This really has to stop. I already turned off the Google Backup, but this doesn't help at all.

Increased Data Usage

I recently came back from a two-month trip and started using my ATT sim card again. My Infuse is basically the same as when I left - Infused 2.23, no major changes.
All of a sudden my data usage has gone from an average of a couple of megabytes (at the most) a day to over ten. I only have a 200mb plan, so this is a problem.
I installed traffic monitor; unfortunately most of the data used falls under the heading of "System Traffic," which cannot be researched further. New build of Maps? Some rogue system program? I can't figure out how to find out what it is, and a google search wasn't particularly helpful.
Something is different, and I don't know what it is.
Anyone facing a similar situation or have any clues?
Start uninstalling apps and watch your usage to see which is the culprit.

Thanks. That's a good idea, but it's all system apps, not apps I've installed. None of them are causing any trouble. I'm not even sure which are all the system apps...
Some apps I noted:
1. Quick Office Pro uses like about 20k on phone start up; not sure if it does it every time. There could be a few more apps that do this.
2. Google voice syncs itself
3. Push emails send info to server saying the link can be used
4. Maps new build could be a possible culprit (I keep mine frozen all the time now, and defreeze it only when needed)
I noticed this even on my wife's iPhone sometimes when she gets 65% usage sms (she has a 200 MB plan), and she's always on WiFi at home, and sometimes the data usage on AT&T site shows up to 20-30 MB per session. No way to track it. I tried taking it up with them, but that won't help since AT&T too does not track which app or what data it is.

[Q] Why doesn't data usage add up in Android 4.4.4?

I set up a new Moto G with Android 4.4.4 a few weeks ago, and I've been trying to monitor the mobile data usage, but the data usage reported by Android makes no sense at all:
- The data used by various apps and services doesn't add up to the total data usage reported by Android. Often the app usage listed adds up to more than the total reported at the top.
- Most of the data usage is usually in "Android OS" or "Google Play Services" (changes name randomly between "Google Services" and "Google Play Services"). It's therefore not clear what app is actually using data, or whether any of it might be double-counted with the app itself.
- The data usage reported by Android is way more than that reported by my cellular data plan. I realize that they "may not match exactly", but at times the ratio of data usage reported by Android to data usage reported by carrier is 3:1 or 4:1. Obviously something significant is being counted by Android that isn't being counted by the carrier, and carriers are not normally noted for their generosity!
If I tried a different app for tracking data usage, would it be any better? Or do they all depend on Android's buggy reporting service?

[Q] Disabling Android OS background data completely

Hello everyone,
Let me explain you my situation: I'm on Nexus 6P on the latest Marshmallow. My provider currently has a a new offer: I can use Facebook, Viber and Whatsapp for free without limits (any other app usage will cost me money). So naturally I downloaded AFWall+ and blocked all apps besides Facebook, Messenger and Viber and I also turned on "Restrict Background Data". Now the problem is that after doing this, Android OS is still using some of my data (which enables a standard data plan for 1 day, which costs me money). I tried disabling sync, data backup, but something is still using background data under Android OS (I attached a picture from data collection, I wiped all the previous data usage, so it is showing data usage from like 5 minutes).
So is there a way of how to completely disable background data while on cellular network (not wifi)?
If needed I can provide extra information, thanks in advance
through settings change
In setting app you can choose accounts &s ync , there disable background data is shown .just tick it and done.

Android OS uses treendous data traffic for backgrund data

Hi, have the HTC One M8 running the 5.1.1 Cynide L Rom. Recently my ISP warned me, that I had used 600MB of traffic in a few hours, I was asked to pay 264.-€ for exceeding my mobile data plan. The shock led me to check my data usage and I was horrified to see that over the last months my HTC Android OS had been draining 17-21 GB per month of online data traffic in "background data", which also kills my fixed line traffic quota. I have 2 other Android devices which do not show this issue.
This is more than a nuisance, it costs me real money, and I have to repair that. Anybody have any ideas, what on earth is happening in the "Android OS background"?
I have checked for viruses and bots, I have switched off background data and I have installed AFWall to disable those unwanted downloads. But of course if I disable internet access or the OS, my smartphone is barely functional. So I am desperately looking for another solution.

Glasswire isn't detecting any data

Recently after upgrading my oneplus 7 pro to android 10,i realized, glasswire isn't detecting any data. I am using LTE mobile data. And i have turned off any battery optimization for glasswire and even allowed it unrestricted data usage.
But it just doesn't detect any data at all. I am not talking about in background. Even when the app is open, it doesn't detect anything. So this is not a battery optimization issue. Rather some permissions issue in android 10.
