Greetings,
I am looking to see if anyone else has had luck with unrooting.
Simply restoring factory works as expected, however I am trying to make changes to my system, and then unroot after the changes get made. I tried SuperSU's uninstall feature with no luck.

I rooted my Epic 4G a few weeks ago. I had problems with the 3G, so I eventually had to do a full wipe with Odin (just flashing the kernel never worked, it kept failing. Only a full wipe worked.) So I re-rooted so I could restore all my backups with Titanium Backup and just kept root.
Well, today I went back into Titanium Backup only to discover that it said I was NOT rooted. This didn't make any sense...I did get one OTA update to my phone, but I was under the impression that these didn't remove root.
So I thought maybe it was my BusyBox...I used the link within Titanium to DL BusyBox. Went into the BusyBox installer, and it's main screen said I WAS rooted...the Heck?
So I tried to install, but I got the error saying it failed. The exact wording was "The application failed, either because your device is not nand unlocked or we were unable to remount."
So what gives?
I tried to re-root using the one-click, that didn't work. I tried to uninstall the root using the one-click uninstaller, that didn't work. The windows just hang up and don't do anything. I tried to re-flash the kernel with Odin and, just like last time, it didn't work. I get the feeling I'll have to do what I did last time and do a complete wipe with Odin, which will really suck because I'm not able to recreate any backups this time around.
sounds like a superuser permission issue to me.
ota removes root, always, just reroot
So, I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate) last weekend. I had it rooted and everything was fine. Then I got rid of some of the bloatware. I wrote a couple of programs for myself to use, so I needed to enable side-loading. I did that-successfully.
First sign of a problem was when I went to the marketplace and it would not download any single app that I tried. So, I went to restore the phone using the backup I made, but some reason it wasn't there.
Then I decided to revert to factory settings. I did a hard reset, but the problem was still not resolved. Then I found a thread on here about Odin 3. I've been trying to use that all night but the best I've gotten is to the File Analysis step. I've tried at least 10 different times.
I'm trying to get everything back up and running and preferably rooted again so that I can use my Titanium backup to restore all my apps and settings.
I'm at my wits end, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Factory reset would not solve any problems that may have been caused by deleting core apps. Is your phone rooted and nand unlocked (baseband) or just rooted? Are you running a custom rom? If so you need to reflash the rom after clearing cache and dalvik cache. If you still have the original rom then you can reflash an official samsung firmware using odin, look for your handsets firmware on www.samfirmwares.com
Other than that you could try finding out which apps are needed and using root explorer you may be able to fix the version you have. If the market is your only issue then try clearing data and cache settings/manage apps/market and download manager (two different apps)
How did you root your phone? Did you install a custom ROM yet? What bloatware did you remove, and how did you go about it?
Ok. In the wee hours this morning I finally got Odin to work and now everything works as it should. I switched computers and the program worked right away. Intersting tidbit though, I accidentally left the sim card in during the reflash and I had no ill effects. I'm actually wondering if that helped me.
Thanks tina333.
nenol, I used the one touch root. I have not installed a custom rom and I don't remember exactly which of the programs I uninstalled. I used Titanium backup to both backup my apps and to delete the bloatware.
There are very few system apps that are not needed by the system, titanium only backs up data by default. Be careful what you delete and always research first
Nexus 5 stock 4.4.2 ROM.
What would cause this on rebooting? After the popup error booting continues and the phone seems to work correctly.
I deleted both cache and dalvik cache but that didn't help.
What is Process system?
Thanks.
Maybe you need to factory reset your device. Or if you rooted clean flash your rom.
Probably some of the system files got messed up? If it's bugging you, Flash the stock system, boot images and re-root.. Apps and it's settings can be backed up and restored via Titanium Backup.
Seems pretty radical. I was hoping for something less radical.
If I reset won't I lose all my system settings, accounts, and who knows what? I don't think tibu can restore those, can it?
If I accept the ota update to 4.4.3 (despite the problems about the radio, etc) would that overwrite all the system files?
I have nandroid back-ups and TWRP if that is helpful.
I am now having problems with widgets not working, Tapatalk not refreshing, etc.

It takes about 10-15 mins to setup your google, other accounts and system settings.
No, OTA update won't delete anything. But if you have changed any 4.4.2 system files you shouldn't install the OTA as it would break and abort installation.
If you have the nandroid backup of your complete stock rom, you could restore it and then proceed with the OTA. Kindly refer to the OTA helpdesk in the General forum which will clear all your doubts.
Thank you again.
I took the plunge, uninstalled xposed, and accepted the ota. It updated with no problems - but I lost root. So I will spend the 10 minutes rerooting instead.
On the good side, after the update, the error no longer appears and the widgets work again.

That's great! Good to hear.
Thanks. I wanted to post my solution so others might benefit.
While searching for a solution I discovered that several others have faced this problem. So it is not that rare.
Good afternoon folks. I've been toying with Galaxy's for a few years and am fairly competent with rooting, etc. I've been searching for a long time with no definitive answer on the subject:
If I use TWRP to perform a complete backup, can I: 1, flash stock firmware. 2, do what I need to do. 3, re-root and. 4, restore the backup with complete success? In other words, will I lose some of my data, settings etc?
Thanks very much
(I'm trying to get Snapchat working on root, and this would be the easiest way to do so, if it returns my phone exactly to where it is at current state. I know there's a couple of threads that discuss Snapchat but they're a bit messy and involved.)
Running stock rom, rooted & xposed.
You won't lose anything if you restore with twrp, that's the purpose of it.
Now if you don't have twrp installed yet there's the issue of losing everything when you install it, read the twrp thread.
Hi guys,
I have a slight problem here, I was using my rooted with magisk and running lineageos17. Unfortunately, bluetooth wasnt working so I reverted back to stock, which fixed the bluetooth problem. I tried rooting the thing then with this method:
https://www.xda-developers.com/install-android-oreo-samsung-galaxy-s7-exynos/
Unfortunately though, this killed my imei. I tried restoring my efs partition with twrp; even tried reflashing the stock firmware, all to no avail, my imei is gone.
Is there any way I can restore it or have I turned my phone into a fancy paperweight now?
Would be cool if anyone could offer me some help,
best wishes,
derelektrischemoench
// edit: I managed to get twrp installed and was able to restore my twrp- backup which i had made before this whole endeavour and voila: the device is back online, has an imei and is able to connect to a network. Hell yea. Thread can be closed, I guess.
