TWRP loop.. after factory restore - General Questions and Answers

Dear Apollo users,
I have seen threads like these for other phones, but would prefer a solution specific to the Apollo Lite. I just purchased my Apollo (second hand), I gave it a factory reset and now it is stuck in TWRP. The previous owner flashed a custom rom so TWRP has already been installed. It just will not boot any rom, I installed new roms and after reboot it will just boot straight to TWRP.
Any suggestions?

Just do a clean install ( stockrom ) with the SP flashtool and everything gonna bee alright

Thank you, I got it working. BTW some phones seem to have spyware or other types of nonesense on them. Once I install a custom rom, everything is clean?
For all who have the same problem: http://www.needrom.com/download/official-p10-rom-27-07-16/

I have the same problem, but after returning to twrp because of the factory restore I deleted the cache, system, dalvik and data and now it does not work usb, when I connect it it goes directly to twrp and the flash tool does not can do the service. what do I do????

wipe cache

I just fixed that by entering bootloader, typed "fastboot -w" and "fastboot erase recovery" (for removing TWRP" and installed it again. When I tried to install the rom again it worked perfectly.
I recommend you to have the rom saved in your Sdcard 1 (removable SD CARD) for saving time.

Moto G 1st Gen XT1033 Boot Loop on Stock Lollipop

My Moto G (XT1033) 1st Gen with stock lollipop has stuck in a boot loop.
I am still able to go in to recovery mode. Have tried clearing cache, but that didn't seem to work.
I don't have CWM installed it's pure android as stock have installed updates only through OTAs.
Have googled about it and many are stating that a factory reset will solve the issue. But I don't want to lose data in the phone.
Main reason for the boot loop could be App as I use beta versions of Facebook, Whatsapp and Nova launcher from apkmirror.
What can be done to recover data or just get this boot loop fixed?
P.S: My device is not rooted and does not have any CWM or TWRP recovery.
I have got exactly the same issue yesterday itself. It was working fine, even received a call after which it was placed on a table. Picked up a few moments later & it was switched off. After that, whenever i'm trying to turn it on, its stuck on the M Logo - Powered by Android i.e Bootloop.
My phone was full stock and totally untouched as well. There weren't any apps installed from sources apart from Play Store. I'm able to access the stock recovery and tried clearing the cache but no respite. Whenever i try to factory format that, it gives an error of e:/could't mount /cache/recovery/xxxxxxxx errors.
I had read the forums for similar issues and got to know from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/moto-g-bootup-problem-recovery-mode-t3122492. The issue is cent percent same apart from the fact that i can access stock recovery.
Maybe @ravibhat & @lost101 can help us in this. I'm not worried about getting the data but bringing the phone back to life is more important for me !! Please help.

oh okay mate. I have been googling for such issue but the mostly suggested method is reset that I haven't done (not to lose data). Will wait for a day if I get any solution otherwise will reset it.
Let me know what happened to your phone. Hope it gets fixed soon
okay so here's the update. Was successful to take backup as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426426
And made factory reset after that but now it is still getting stuck on bootloop with M logo and powered by android screen. :crying:
I gave my phone to the service center guys today for reflashing the firmware. They were unable to do and suggested a motherboard replacement for which i obviously refused as they asked for ~INR 8000 as charges. So will start experimenting with it now and hope so i'm able to bring back to life.
What i'm planning is:
1. Flash Custom Recovery.
2. Wipe entire phone.
3. Flash stock ROM.
Will keep updating if i'm able to manage anything
EDIT : Did everything mentioned above but the phone is having same fate as before @krunalshah68. It gets stuck on the M Logo :crying: The internal memory although is being shown as 5xxx MB in TWRP unlike 0 Mb earlier.
Unlock Bootloader (if not already done) and flash twrp - mfastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Alternatively you can boot into twrp without flashing: mfastboot boot twrp.img
Download twrp: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/recovery-twrp-2-8-2-0-touch-recovery-t2980621
Then via PC, do the following wipe: (requires working ADB setup - google it)

Thank you for you reply mate. :good:
I have somehow managed to backup data by script. but the problem is now even after resetting it is still stuck into bootloop.
But I am a bit confused here in steps.
1) Unlock bootloader
2) Flash custom recovery like TWRP and clear dalvik cache
3) and then flash any custom rom
correct me if I am wrong. I am going to follow these steps. @lost101
Phone started! yeeey!
So heres the update bro @BBThumbHealer.
Unlocked bootloader.
Flashed TWRP.
Cleared cache/dalvik cache/data.
Flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/nx-nexus-experience-rom-10-0-3-ambient-t3268555/
And device is working smooth as silk now and that too with Marshmallow !:fingers-crossed:
Let me know your status bro. Hope I could help you in some way
@krunalshah68 : Great to know bro that ur phone is as good as new now .. Many congratulations
As far as mine is concerned, did the following :
1. Unlocked bootloader
2. Flashed TWRP Recovery v3.0.2
3. Using mfastboot, flashed stock 5.0.2 and the phone booted up successfully finally !!
But now here's the catch, the phone once flashed up with a rom boots up fine for a single time only. Within that time frame, every damn thing works fine. Able to browse the net, configure apps & settings , blah blah etc etc ... every single thing. But as soon as i restart the phone, the rom fails to startup. It gets stuck on the boot loop.
Initially i thought the rom might have been corrupt, but then i tried the following roms:
1. Stock 5.1 Optimized as posted by @lost101
2. crDroid CM 13 6.0.1
And again the same fate was met.
And yes, i've been installing the above roms by flashing the zips in twrp. After every flash, cleared dalvik, cache & data.
Maybe the fellow members @lost101 @ravibhat can give some insight what's happening ! :crying :
Hello guys, My phone is stuck on bootloop
I have already rooted device and now it is stuck on bootloop even the Recovery isn't opening. I know I would have to reset the phone with mfastboot but I want my internal storage to be backed up before doing all this Is there anyway to do so? Anyone here can help me out?
@sahil_arora05 : if you are able to access the bootloader mode, with the help of mfastboot, flash the latest version of twrp for moto g (mfastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img). After that, connect an otg disk to ur handset, boot into twrp and you'll be able to see all your files in the internal storage using the inbuilt file explorer for twrp. With that you can copy all ur data from the handset to the otg drive.

@sahil_arora05 Use mfastboot. It's been specifically designed for Moto devices as the regular fastboot is reportedly having some issues with Moto mobiles (read this on some XDA post itself)

Hi Guys,
phone : Moto G (XT1033), Falcon
- stuck in bootloop
- able to go to recovery
- unable to flash custom recovery such as twrp or cwm
- as suggested,
1. Unlocked the bootloader successfully, can see code status = 3 in recovery mode
mfastboot oem unlock <CODE>2. Unable to flash twrp. It writes successfully but shows stock recovery only
mfastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-falcon.img3. so tried booting twrp using with success
mfastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-0-falcon.img4. cleaned cache, dalvik etc.
5 using twrp, used ADB which enables MTP which let me transfer Android6.0.1_NX_R10.3.3_MotoG2013.zip to internal memory
6 Using twrp to flash ROM - Android6.0.1_NX_R10.3.3_MotoG2013.zip
It seems it started installing but its been more than one hour and it seems its still doing something.
It has stuck at - "Patching system image unconditionally..."
is this normal? Did I miss anything?
Appreciate help in advance. thank you for your time...

[HELP] Stuck on Recovery Bootloop after OTA Update (CM14.1) , can't access Fastboot

Hi,
Just for you to know:
Model: r7plusf
Recovery: TWRP 3.0.2-0
----------------------------------------
So earlier today I did an OTA update (cm-14.1-20161205-NIGHTLY-r7plus.zip), but couldn't get my phone to boot.
So naturally, I tried wiping Cache and ART cache, but was still bootlooping.
Thought there might be someting wrong with my ROM and data, so I formated data and Installed ROM and GAPPS again after ADB pushing them onto my phone.
Now, and although CM14.1 and GAPPS are successfully installed on my Oppo R7 Plus, I can't boot into the OS. Every time I try reboot system, whether through POWER_BUTTON, RECOVERY or ADB, I just boot into Recovery.
Worst of all, for some unknown reason, I can't get into BOOTLOADER, neither through button combination, nor through Recovery nor ADB.
I found this article (http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/fix-recovery-loop-twrp-computer-t2873386) in the LG G3 thread about executing some shell commands, but I haven't tested testing it with my phone's variables because it might hard brick it...
Please Help!
[EDIT] I now have access to fastboot but still recovery looping like crazy.
I installed the same update via CyanDelta , worked like a charm ! hopefully you get back up and running.
[UPDATE] strangely I tried to flash stock recovery and boot CM13 and it worked!
Will try to flash twrp again and insall CM14
keep you up to date
Same thing happened to me! Where did you get a copy of the stock recovery? Link?

I had the same problem. Can't remember exactly how I resolved it. But I think, I use CM recovery to flash nightly. Then flash TWRP to flash gapps. For some strange reason, using CM recovery also show no enough disk space whenever I try to flash opengapps. But TWRP recovery can flash opengapps successfully.
Don't use the OTA, use adb sideload to flash the nightly next time. So far, adb sideload has not given me any issue to flash nightly.
Same problem...
I tried a lot of things nothing works and now I've installed the cm recovery but I have the "unauthorized phone" in terminal when I try to flash the ROM... I can do nothing because I can't enable the usb debugging. I don't know what to do.
If somebody can help I appreciate.

Since then I found how to fix it :
first of all I flashed cm13 through TWRP,
Then I flashed the stock recovery (Google it, I found it in OPPO forums) with fastboot,
After that I did a factory reset in the stock recovery,
Booted cm13 with stock recovery,
Then re-flashed TWRP,
From TWRP, I wiped both data and system partitions,
Then fresh installed cm14 and Gapps
And it worked!
Not sure if those are the exact steps I followed because all I did was a hole lot of messing around and trying absurd things out, but think this is how I fixed it.
Let me know if it worked for you or if you still can't fix your problem
Best of luck

Thank you very much!!!! I'll try tomorrow and tell you.
I appreciate a lot!
First of all now works but to be honest, I don't know if the way I fix makes sense or if is correct but not for the same reason I do but I'll try to explain...
I had cm-14.1-20161218-NIGHTLY and I tried to update via OTA to 20161220 the phone reboot and I get the bootloop. The first I thought, install again the ROM making wipe data and blabla... nothing work.
I tried to "reflash" the recovery, nothing. Flashed cm recovery, it always gave me error trying to flash the rom. I tried to install with stock recovery, errors too.
I was reading hundred of post looking for my issues, device unauthorized, "error 7" in twrp... I was crazy.
At last I thought, I've been trying to install from SDcard, if I try to install from internal memory? and I install again the twrp to transfer the ROM and Gapps to the internal memory and... it worked!!!!
Long story but with happy ending.
Thank you for your help I appreciate and sorry for my english.First of all now works but to be honest, I don't know if the way I fix makes sense or if is correct but not for the same reason I do but I'll try to explain...

Help wanted: Device shutting off, rebooting to stock recovery when booted

Dear op7p xda community,
A few months ago, I rooted my device and flashed TWRP succesfully. After a stock OTA (still Pie), I lost both. Today, I wanted to re-root and re-flash TWRP. I used mauronofrio's Tool All In One 2.0.0.7 for this. I didn't flash TWRP, but booted it and used that to flash Magisk 19.4. Now, I wanted to see if the rooting process was successful, so I booted the OS. Unfortunately, once it boots and reaches the lockscreen, the "shutting off..." prompt immediately shows and reboots me into the stock recovery.
Edit: I now flashed TWRP after booting TWRP again and ran Magisk to root it again. Unfortunately, the problem persists (only now reboots to TWRP instead of stock recovery). Help is much appreciated!
Can someone help me get my phone to work again? Thanks a lot in advance!
Regards,
Wouty

Thank you for your reply. I am now on TWRP 3.3.1-4 (latest). I have tried to factory reset and wipe the phone in hopes of getting it to start properly again, but now the OS doesn't even boot and immediately reboots me into TWRP. I have now tried to flash 3 different stock, official ROMs, both International and Europe, like OnePlus7ProOxygen_21.O.14_OTA_014_all_1907281611. I used the recommended flashing instructions (flash ROM, flash TWRP, reboot TWRP, flash Magisk) But none of them boot at all. Only TWRP is usable now. I don't know what to do

When it reboots back to TWRP try to format data if that doesn't work then you need to use MSM tool.

Thanks for your reply. I had indeed wiped data, but that worsened the situation (not booting at all, instead of rebooting once booted). I have now tried this https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-7-pro-t3931424 and it now seems to be booting (booting animation on-going for quite some time now, though). I will keep you posted. If it doesn't work, I'll look into the MSM tool. Thanks for the suggestion!

That is the latest official TWRP for this device. The official builds don't support Android 10, as decryption is not supported, so that may be part of your problem. The latest unofficial is -70, and I believe you need to use build -65 or later for Android 10.

Wipe is not the same as format. In TWRP, go to Wipe section, and you will see a button "Format data".
If you are now stuck on a boot loop, try booting into twrp and clearing cache. If you still can't boot, then i recommend downloading the full official rom and flashing it via fastboot. This will remove twrp and u'll end up with stock recovery and everything. Then after that follow proper instructions to install twrp first, then clear cache. Then magisk, and clear cache.

Open a cmd here.
Enable usb debugging on your device
Reboot your phone on bootloader (hold volume down + power), connect it to PC and tape:

Does Xiaomi EU Rom run either on encrypted and unencrypted storage?
I cant get this to work, ive been trying everything for hours. I am sure i am missing something stupid but if anyone has any new ideas please let me know. I unlocked my device today, flashed twrp via fastboot, rebooted to recovery, formatted data then went on to install xiaomi eu rom. Ever since trying this, i am constantly booting into recovery or hitting a boot loop. i have formatted data more times than i care to think of ha ha. ive tried flashing the latest fastboot rom via mi unlock tool to do a fresh start but keep getting ''flash crclist error". Ive also tried flashing miui stock via twrp and it also, doesn't boot. ive tried many combinations in between. My next option is to try the fastboot global rom (though i believe i have a chinese device), i am waiting for it to download. If anyone knows what i am doing wrong i will be eternally grateful if you can tell me what it is. I'm so frustrated, been flashing roms for years, never had anything take as long as this :crying:

My next option is to try the fastboot global rom (though i believe i have a chinese device), i am waiting for it to download. If anyone knows what i am doing wrong i will be eternally grateful if you can tell me what it is. I'm so frustrated, been flashing roms for years, never had anything take as long as this :crying:

write what u do wen u try to flash the zip
an have u downloadet the correct zip file
Thanks everyone, i think it must have been something to do with the qualcomm drivers installed incorrectly. i have re-done that from scratch and managed to get mi flash tool working. Sorry to waste everyones time.
Greetings
I have followed the tutorials to perfection like 2-3 times and I still face the same issue
I always go back to TWRP after trying to boot into system.
I have tried 2 different recovery files
The experimental one asks for a password. and the other one works but keeps going back to recovery after flashing.
MIUI 11 rom
MIUI 12 rom
No matter what I do It keeps going back to recovery.
It's my only device so I truly need help.
I have tried re installing everything already.
At this point I just want to install stock rom and keep using it without flashing anything please help.
PHONE FINALLY REBOOTING INTO SYSTEM. I myself don't know what i did!!!
Bootloop (stuck on 5G logo) after flashing Xiaomi.eu ROM
Dear fellow XDA-dev community members,
Xiaomi Mi 10 (umi), coming from original stock ROM, MIUI 11 GLOBAL version V11.0.2.0.QJBMIXM.
Bootloader unlocked official way via MiFlash Unlock 4.5.514.47.
Custom recovery TWRP 3.4.1b-0313 installed via XiaoMiTool V2.
Tested root by installing Magisk 20.3 via TWRP, no problem, then updating to Magisk 20.4 with the Magisk Manager 7.5.1.
The problems started when I tried to install Xiaomi.eu Custom ROM : xiaomi.eu_multi_MI10_V11.0.25.0.QJBCNXM_v11-10
Downloaded the Xiaomi.eu ROM to PC, then copied to the Download folder of the Phone.
Started phone in upload mode or TWRP. > Wipe > Swipe to Factory Reset + Format Data.
When formatting data I erase all folders in the phone, including the Xiaomi.eu ROM copied in the Download folder.
Some tutorials suggest to copy the Xiaomi.eu ROM from PC to phone after formatting the data, just by connecting the phone in TWRP to the PC, by going to > Mount and enabling MTP.
Tried this method but when I send the Xiaomi.eu ROM file to the phone the progress bas doesn’t move.
So I restarted the phone, without installing the Custom ROM, went through all the screens of initial phone configuration. Lost Magisk and root (but I supposed that it’s not mandatory to install Custom ROM). Copied again the Xiaomi.eu ROM zip file to the Download folder. Rebooted to TWRP. This time I just did Factory Reset but without Format Data. Then > Install to install the Xiaomi.eu new ROM. Cleared Dalvik Cache then reboot.
PROBLEM : bootloop. Stuck with the 5G logo forever, waited more than 30 min, no change.
Still have access to recovery TWRP and to bootloader mode. I suppose this is a soft brick?
I did > Wipe, Swipe to Factory Reset + Format Data, restarted… no change.
Copied this time the Xiaomi.eu ROM to a clean formatted (FAT32) USB drive. As shown in some tutorials, you can us an external USB drive via USB OTG to install the Custom ROM via TWRP.
Factory Reset + Format Data, then I installed again the same Xiaomi.eu ROM from the external USB. Still stuck in bootloop.
Please I need help to fix the problem
I’m not an expert developer, but I’m not a complete noob either.
This is the first time I have troubles with a brand new Xiaomi Phone.
It’s the first time I get a very expensive phone, but had no choice (they are getting very expensive), because I always buy a Flagship Xiaomi to get all the community support possible.
And I had to change the ROM to Xiaomi.eu, because the Official Global ROM is full of bloatware I had a good experience with Xiaomi.eu ROMs with my old Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi 5.
At this point I don’t mind going back to stock MIUI Global ROM.
I suppose that with access to boot loader I can flash the Official ROM from PC with MiFlash2020-3-14-0? If it’s the case can somebody show me detailed steps to do that?
For Mi 10 Official Global there is the Stable Full ROM (miui_UMIGlobal_V11.0.2.0.QJBMIXM_4f986c08cb_10.0 ) (2.45 GB) and Stable ROM (umi_global_images_V11.0.2.0.QJBMIXM_20200328.0000.00_10.0_global_09b168ff9e) (3.76 GB). Which One to flash from PC with MiFlash?
I can’t afford to hard brick the device
Thank you very much.

Hello,
i have a silly question about step 4:
someone says we should "Wipe Data", someone says we should "Format Data" ,
i don't see a real difference unless we want to change the filesystem type.
Advices ?
And also, when we format ( or wipe ) the "Data" partition, are we formatting the 256 GB partition ?
if yes, this is a really huge drawback for us who want to change ROM more frequently than other android users, because we have to backup a 256 GB partition ...
This is not fast to do online ( at least with my poor connection ) and it is not fast to do on PC or on a USB KEY.
So we have 256 GB and we need to format at each ROM change ? Too bad ...
In the good old times i did extract my microSD card and i was safe .
Someone could explain me please ?
thank you all for your patience...

Hello,
You have to format data the first time you flash xiaomi.eu rom because their rom is base on Chinese firmware (if you don't or just wipe it will not boot)
Each time you will flash a rom with different base (from Chinese base to global base or global to Chinese) you will have to format data !!
You format data to remove encryption.

Stuck without solutions
Hello,
I tried to flash the latest miui 12. I followed all the steps...
But now I can't acess recovery nor rom.
Basically when i try to flash TWRP with bootloader it just goes back to fastboot.
Also note that the flash is successful. But I somehow can't acess TWRP, just goes back to fastboot
And when I flash the experimental TWRP on the dev thread it boots to recovery but asks for a password.. Impossible to flash anything.. Even after I formated data and everything
I tried flashing other TWRP I found but nothing boots even after trying a lot of time.
I tried <fastboot boot recovery.img> as well
I tried <fastboot erase recovery> and then flash the TWRP as well
I've been trying hard for the last 8 hours.
I also have a backup of when I had MIUI 12. But impossible to flash it with the only recovery I can boot to.
I feel so desperate. I'm out of ideas.
If you have any ideas, I'm listening
Thanks for the help guys.

Problem with flashing custom ROM (error 255)

Hey guys,
after searching through different websites and guides you are my last resort to get a custom ROM running on my Redmi S2.
Everytime i try to flash a custom ROM i get the error 255. Here is what i tried until now (bootloader is unlocked):
- flashing twrp(twrp-3.2.1-0-ysl) to recovery using fastboot
- wiping phone (first wipe to disable encryption since miui puts some kind of password on the hard drive that i dont know, second wipe to ensure partitions are clean for new OS)
- mounting phone to pc to transfer OS image (tried Lineage and Havoc, both modified for S2 (ysl version)) and GApps
- finally, installing OS zip (after which i get error message 255, telling me that twrp wasnt able to install the zip file)
please help me out, ask away if something's not clear

Try this, you have to flash first this in fastboot https://files.orangefox.download/OrangeFox-Beta/ysl/ the R10.0-1 RC1 .img file
And THEN flash this https://orangefox.download/en/device/ysl once you are in the recovery.
Then it worked for me, finally, hope this helps.

so i tried this approach. i first installed how you told me to (orangefox R10.0-1 RC1 .img first), but factory reset nor installing the second recovery img worked because of the encryption miui puts on the phone. So i flashed twrp, wiped memory, flashed first orange fox img and from then installed the second img (as a zip). until here everything worked, orange fox told me that he's going to reboot to new recovery -- and i got stuck on the boot logo again. :c

Did you flash the firmware? https://github.com/XiaomiFirmwareUpdater/firmware_xiaomi_ysl/releases/tag/stable-16.03.2020
Other thing you could try is flash the other .img files from https://files.orangefox.download/OrangeFox-Beta/ysl/ and the flash in there the same .zip file you did as before.

As long as the bootloader is unlocked it should be fine. And no, you should flash the firmware just as you would flash the rom, i. e. from OrangeFox Recovery.

UPDATE: i finally ****ing did it. So here are the steps that i took (incase anyone has to go through this **** as well)
1. flash MIUI on mobile device using MiFlash (at least i did this by shorting 2 pins on the back)
2. (VERY IMPORTANT!!!) instantly boot to fastboot using Power button + Volume down. this has to be before android starts setting up the phone
3. flash recovery with the image that celephrn provided in this thread
4.boot to recovery by holding Volume up + Power button
5. install the miui update that celephrn provided in this thread
6. reboot to recovery
7. install orange recovery zip that celephrn provided in this thread (phone reboots to recovery)
8. now you can reboot to system (Do NOT (!!!) set the phone up, just let it work its things until you see the MIUI setup screen)
9. Now, finally you can dirty flash your custom rom (and GApps)
10. after flashing the new rom android will throw you alot of errors so you will have to wipe Dalvik/Cache, System, Data and Internal Storage.
11. now you can flash your Rom clean and you're good to go
(huge thanks to celephrn, helped me out after me struggling for a few good weeks with this damn phone)
