Thanks. A little bit better news.

Good news after all rumors about our v10 not getting it. Hope we will receive it in March

I hope so

Nougat

I see Google has released Android 7.0, Nougat.
The LG G5 is supposedly going to receive this "soon" and knowing the speed with which Verizon acts on updates I feel safe in promising you we'll see this with in the next 25 years....
I say 4 to 5 months, taking bets here.

Agreed. We are usually good for 1 Google flavor update. But not until they have "thoroughly" tested it...lol
It's late August, so if it arrived by Christmas that would be a bonus. Although, the LG V20 is supposed to come with 7.0, so maybe a lot of the code will be done already.....wishful thinking.

Nougat testing starts for S7 Edge !!

You could now find Galaxy S7 edge running Android 7.0 on Geekbench listings.
Get the list of such URLs here, and the screenshot.
Would Samsung be able to release the Nougat update before the end of this month?
Even if not, next month is a sure Nougat release month for our S7.

No OEM have EVER released it less than 3 months before Nexus and Samsung is not known for being faster either. When did we get Marsmallow on last years flagships? Q1/Q2.. March, right?

I really believe we could see way faster update this time around.
As the log article lays it out, some Samsung employee said the Note 7 Nougat update would come 2-3 months after its launch, and given that Galaxy S7 ad S7 Edge would get it before the Note 7, it should be due in October. And seeing them devices at Geekbench, I feel very positive.
This year, even a company like Huawei has a Nougat firmware leak for its P9, even before the Nougat OTA rolled out for Nexus devices. Google has definitely shared the Nougat code with major OEMs earlier than usual, I think.
HTC too has upped with game, promising updates for OneA9, OneM9 and HTC 10, before the end of this -- the special thing about the announcement being 'all carriers included' in the 31st December timeline.
So, I'm hoping Samsung is able enough!
What do you say?
I know Google has lately been both publicly and privately "shaming" and aggressively encouraging OEMs and carriers to speed up their update process. This relationship started with more timely security updates and from what I've read is translating over to faster system updates.
I believe unlocked versions will see 7.0 by mid October, and carrier versions by mid November.

Hahahahahaha LOL!!!!!!!!
Both the phones and android os have matured a lot these days; S7 edge with marshmallow on it is already near perfect; I myself don't get excited for the updates as often in the old days; have not even rooted this phone and Rom flashing is not something I'm doing a lot; so I prefer to wait for a polished nougat Rom instead of a rushed one.
Edit: For about ten years I've changed my phone every year as a power user, now for the first time I've been using this device for about five months and am quite happy about it; I'm not planning to change it until the end of twenty four months period if something with a big development does not come.

+1. Same story. It is perfect from every aspect from the previous flagships. No major flaws and nothing unusual about it.

LG put Lollipop and Marshmallow just days/ a few weeks after nexus on G3 and G4 last year/the year before. So it's possible but samsung won't do it cause they don't need to hurry. See what it did to the note 7 rushing it on the market just to be there a few weeks before apple...
I'm 100% sure that we'll see update in february, just like this year. It's Samsung after all, don't forget it.
Good hope it fixes the stupid android os drain. In back on the og firmware of my s7 edge APB5 as it gives best performance and battery life. Samsung better not f up android 7.0

Even if we get Nougat before the end of the year, it wouldn't surprise me if Samsung gave us 7.0 instead of the more timely 7.1 update.

Glad to finally see official announcement. Let's hope we get invited to the soak test.
Good stuff....and now we wait.
This is the announcement i've been waiting for. Now i'll pull the trigger and buy a Moto X Pure.
don't get me wrong. it is good to see an official announcement from Motorola but I'm pretty sure we will see the updates in the phones until next year.
Motorola is not what is used to be when it comes to software updates.
I just bought the Moto X Pure. I am glad to hear that it will get upgraded to 7.0.
Good news ...
Omg!

I also want to point out that the post says "Starting in Q4 with Moto Z and Moto G (4)", which is now. They would probably roll down the list in device age - with some optimism, I would say we would get the update at the latest Q2 of 2017

Updates have been pretty much every quarter... Hard to say if we will get 6.0.1 and/or a simple security update this quarter or a full N release... My money is on a simple MM update and N toward end of 1st quarter of 2017.
We will get rumors of a beta, figure it will be 45-60 days after that barring any real issues.

I don't really think they will go for 6.0.1 it'll be easier to just release n on there part especially with the employee cuts they made

Will we get 7.1 if it's later on or will we just be stuck on 7.0? I hope it's 7.1 because that has the Google Assistant build in like the new Pixel phone.

We possibly will later on though as of google assistant it'll we probably replace google now and available for all devices running nougat

Naugat update will be for us

Moto is planning to make naugat update for our device moto x play.
Cheers

Yeah, great news! I've just ordered this phone to replace my N5 and now this news, honestly I wasn't expecting update to nougat.
We live to see another day!
Well, I am not surprised. The Play is just a year old.
Most 1 year old phones don't get updated..
Thanks to near stock firmware...it is easier to push updates without incurring lot of cost
That's is the official post

Unless you own a 2015 Moto G and then they just shaft you it would seem, it does seem odd that the 2014 Moto G was updated as far as the 2015 Moto G.
I am pretty surprised but relieved the Moto X Play is getting 7 i must be honest.

Change the country, you'll get the right info. MXP is on the list for the UK, and it says "This device will be upgraded to the Android 7.x (Nougat) release of Android, pending partner support"

This is stable version and not just for soak test users, right?
I wouldn't count on next week. There's a September security patch rolling out to the X Style in some locations (UK I believe). My guess would be if they're pushing a security patch now, that may indicate Nougat will still be a couple months away for the Pure/Style. I hope I'm wrong, just speculation.

Are you ready for the sweetest OS update yet? It’s one that speaks your language (particularly if you speak fluent Emoji), offers the ability to seamlessly switch between apps with just a double-tap, more efficient notification controls and improved battery and data saver features.
We’re happy to confirm Android 7.0 Nougat is on its way to a lot of our smartphones, we’ll be starting in Q4 with Moto Z and Moto G (4th Gen).
Here’s the full list of our smartphones that will be getting Nougat:

Moto X Style <<<<<<<<

Nope. Second XT1572 patch the XT1575 has been passed over for, IIRC. Let me guess: US carrier interference of some sort behind the scenes, even though it's an unlocked retail-only phone. Watch it stop us from getting Nougat too.
