Assistant - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hey, did anyone achieved google assistant on your galaxy s7? Can't get it. Beta version of google play services also does not work.

I believe we need to accept an ota for that apparently from what I've been reading.

My understanding is that it's a server side switch, no update required. I think they may have jumped the gun with the announcement last week since I've heard very few reports of assistant becoming available not only on the S7/S7 Edge, but even other marshmallow/nougat devices as of yet.

Does the region of your phone affect on receiving an update? Or only the interface language?

You can get Google Assistant by downloading Lucky Patcher and patching the Google App to have Google Assistant enabled. Fully functioning thank you to the patch modder. Give it a go! It worked for me, but I prefer Google Now as the screen search is so handy and I've become fixed to it.
Good luck and let me know if you have troubles with the app!

I tried without root. Unsuccessful. "Pattern not found! or patch is already applied?!"

Maybe because i have signed up to a beta testing of google application? Its v.6.14.14.21.arm64 now.

I'm sorry for assuming you guys had root. I believe so that it requires root to modify the odex

It's server side, per Google themselves. Reports today are that the rollout has been accelerated, but still nothing for me though there are lots more reports of folks who have gotten it last night/today.

Finally i got it.
After an update of google app XD.
Thank you.

I have it on my stock (not rooted) Verizon Wireless S7. It came over with the Nougat update, or shortly thereafter. So far I don't like it. But that is probably more about unfamiliarity than anything.

Same tbh. I also didn't like that you can no longer screen search as freely. Google Now still doing wonders for me

Updated Google app and running the correct Google services framework, but no Assistant
I tried it with Google Allo and didn't like it there so not really fussed, but wonder why it hasn't activated for me
EDIT -Changed primary system language to US and it worked

Also assistant cant identify songs yet.
Thats strange. Why google can not just copy program code from google now?

Yeah, i had assistant on my s7 edge but after samsung replace motherboard which obviously factory reset my phone i can't get it any more.... Beta tester for both play services and Google app....
Cleared data of both apps as well, long press invokes screen search and no assistant settings in google app....

Quickflix APK

If you have come across this thread I am sure you will know what Quickflix is. Now you would probably also know that the Android app is only available on the Samsung App store (so that's ONLY on Samsung devices). Fortunately, my mother bought a Note 10.1 and I downloaded the .apk, ripped it and then popped it into Dropbox and installed it on my Nexus 10. Works like a charm. Not sure how this would work on devices with different form factors but it wont hurt to try.
Below is the APK. Enjoy.
Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qucbwmslbzen9p4/com.quickflix.library.apk
Google Drive: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-NKfy4HB-MSTVRzeDI3RU5MeWs/edit
4 shared: http://www.4shared.com/android/UcTOkVjb/comquickflixlibrary.html
Please post below your experience with it on your Device and I'll try keep a list of working devices.
NOTE: Quickflix is a PAID service. It costs $15 a month, excluding new releases.
Working Devices:
All Samsung Devices (download on Samsung App store)
Nexus 10
Its a subscription service though right?

Yeah but you can get a 14 day trial to start with, and if you buy a qualifying Samsung device you get 3 months free.
quickflix app
Thanks for the great work, I've been hastling Quickflix to release and app for all Android devices. I can confirm that it runs on both the Asus TF300 and Nexus 7 running stock firmware and jellybean. The only thing I could fault is the volume is low on the TF300. If you have the fix for this it would be amazing.
Keep up the great work
Works on my non-rooted G7.
Successfully installed it on my Rooted Acro S, but when I tried to play a video, the app checks for root and comes up with a message "Videos will not play on rooted devices"
((
If you go here you get a free 2 months.
http://www.quickflix.com.au/mygift
I use Root Cloak and that works for a lot of things but this isn't one of them.
Does anyone know what Quickflix actually looks for? That way we can block it in RootCloak and it will work.
And BTW, its $10 a month for streaming only

Have you tried the hiddenroot apk? There is a module for this too on xposed framework.Give it a try! Good look!:fingers-crossed:
Thanks all, but apparently QuickFlix just released a new version of the software that now works on everything! I have been using it for the last 4 days and it is great! No more need to hide the root and it is a legit app off the Play Store!
Thanks for the suggestions anyway

Agreed....this is a swift kick in the pants for me. I just got a bunch of family members to start using Latitude and now this. Even if I switched to G+ and got them to, I still have to set it all up from scratch. You can't import your friends from one to the other.
I've really been trying to NOT use Google + but, being a heavy user of Google Talk to chat, Google Voice for SMS, and Google Latitude for location sharing it seems I will have no choice soon.
I downloaded it this morning. I like it. I think the features are nice and its a bit quicker. Seems much more modern to me then the older version. I don't use offline maps, so it doesn't bother me too much.
I think also if you type in "OK Maps" it will save maps for offline.

I think it's terrible, where have all the features gone? It all seems based around Google+ and social stuff which I don't use... where are my maps? I have a ton of maps that I update regularly on my pc that I use on my devices and now they are all useless.

Google have blocked access to it in 4.4 so the built-in app is no longer available.
Coming from CM10.2 I was hoping to at least be able to use this with my N5, but alas it's not so .

I believe they blocked the APIs used by the permissions editor which is why it crashes - but I'm struggling to find the reference I read that had this info.......

I downgraded my N4 back to 4.3. Disabling app ops is terrible. Even apple has this feature: iOS alerts you if any app wants to access your contacts, or your photos, or your camera, and you have a choice to allow or not. Android 4.3 does not alert you, but at least you have the option to dig into the App Ops and revoke access to certain things. 4.4 is the first time an android upgrade dissapointed me (they destroyed the alarm app, the keyboard, the wifi indicator's activity/internet access, and App Ops).
App ops was never an official feature, so they technically didn't remove anything.

I'm with you on the users defending Google like the can do no wrong, but definitely disagree about the YouTube g+ integration... They needed to clean YouTube up, and now I can see friend's comments on videos more easily and only view the comments and responses of certain people... That was a good idea..
I think Google is completely wrong by blocking this app ops function, if that's what happened here...

Think it might be device specific. I have a note 2 with gear 2 Neo and no Golf Navi, gear navigator, etc. Decided to reset and pair neo to my work phone (galaxy S4) and they showed up. Tried downloading application to S4 then backed up apk and loaded on note 2. Application installed on phone OK but failed to install in gear manager. Developer can choose group of devices and can also select regions and countries
I do select always all devices and all countries.
If the developer decide to select some devices and only one country, the the app will be published to the selected devices and to that country only
Why? I don't know!!
If you can't see my apps, then the problem is in your side

It is a filter problem caused by the Samsung app store. Currently, they filter the devices manually like so: Gear 2 + Galaxy S5, Gear 2 + S4... and so on, which I think is kinda dumb. My apps on there are filtered for 55 combinations. I'm sure they are missing a lot!

Thanks for the suggestion... Much better alternative to the stock Samsung Email app. Only issue that have with Outlook so far, is that the calendar doesn't integrate with the device calendar app.
But I can live with that for an overall improvement.

I use either the calendar of outlook which is integrated in the app or the google calendar which is great from the play store. It syncs but not sure which setting does the trick.
Alternatively you can just create another exchange account and sync only the calendar, so you can have email through outlook and use the stock samsung calendar app or google calendar app for the calendar which will be synced through the new exchange account.
You need Exchange Services for exchange to show up in Gmail. You can get it here Works beautifully

Which takes me right back to my original question. If there is official support for this, why does it need to be downloaded from unofficial mediums?

It is not officially supported except on Nexus devices. The new Gmail officially supports other IMAP/POP3 accounts on all devices but not Exchange. You need the Exchange Services to get it unofficially.
